Imperial Gallery Restaurant Closing

It is with a heavy heart that we must tell you that the Imperial Gallery Restaurant will be closing it's doors on February 22, 2014. Sadly, after 34 years in Salisbury, we have decided to sell our business. The restaurant will be closed for a couple months and opening up under new owners and a new name. This will be a new restaurant with their own food recipes. The Imperial Gallery was opened in 1980 by my parents Cheng and Kwei Sun. We have enjoyed making memories with so many loyal customers. We just want to thank the community for their loyal patronage over the years. We will be honoring all gift cards until February 22nd and the new owners will also accept them for 30 days after they open.

Many thanks,

Wendy and Lewis Sun

At one time Imperial Gallery and Hunan's were the only two places to get Asian food here in Salisbury. Now there is an Asian food eatery every 5 blocks. These days we have so many places to eat, fast food, corporate chain restaurant and local restaurants it makes me wonder does anyone cook at home anymore? Best wishes to the Sun family and thank you for years of great food and service.

Does anyone know why they are selling? Maybe they chose this and were not forced to close their doors. You can leave with a heavy heart even when you are crying all the way to the bank. Glad they were able to find someone to take over. A new business! YAY.

The Sun family have been wonderful members of this community. Imperial Gallery will be missed.

I am sorry to say it - but it is the truth, even the service sector is folding. You know the economy is bad when the service sector is failing. I don't know if there is any solace - but even McDonalds has shut down in the Centre of Salisbury Mall. And it is a rarity to see a McDonalds shut down.

Many meals there over the years; always pleased. Hope the new owners do as well for as long.

From what was published, it sounds like they are scaling back their efforts. They did not cite an economic reason for their decision; perhaps just wanting more personal time and comfortably situated due to their efforts. Hope so.

The arrangement they made with the new operator for gift cards makes this sound like an orderly transition.

Best wishes to them and the new operator.

They are retiring! Glad another restaurant will open its doors there. I will miss Imperial Gallery though. My wife and I had our first date there.

I have had discussions with the original owner and let me tell you this. Their decision is based on the fact that the TAXES are too high and the THREAT of a minimum wage increase would be the final nail in the coffin.

These are VERY proud people who have served this community for more than three generations. They are saddened by the IMPACT of this local economy, hence my article today about how the minimum wage increase will hurt the Eastern Shore.

Wow! my husband and I had our first date at your restaurant in 1990. I remember him trying to impress me by ordering, "shrimp of two tones." So sorry to lose you! Thanks for the great memories!

Just because you say it don't make it so. Know the Suns and wish them well. Retirement is a good thing, right?

They decided to relocate to China because the tax rate is better.

At least these folks a very honorable, they have announced their closing in such a timely manner that those of us with gift cards can get them used before they close. Not like those jerks that ran Zia's!!!!

I am deeply saddened to hear of this news. Before my mother passed this was "our spot" to dine. It was just another way to feel close to her. The food was always great and the dining experience never disappointed. I wish the Sun family well and thank them for the MANY precious memories I got to share with my mother there.

Joe, do you know any details of the restaurant opening in their place? I was wondering if it was Asian as well.

When are they going to start rebuilding the Burger King at Mt Hermon Road & Civic Avenue?!

Oh no. I have been eating there since I was a little kid. I never had a bad meal or bad service on my hundreds of meals. I moved a few years ago but everytime I visit Saisbury I eat there. Looks like I ll need to make a visit before they close. You guys are a class act and I would hate to have to fill your shoes. Hopefully the new resturaunt will be good.

Asian people are very honorable, they consider it a duty to their fellow man. This is why they are going to be missed so much, their restaurant and they were such nice people and their food was good, not like those two creeps that owned Zia's and were obnoxious, condescending attitude, those two were all about the money and to hell with customers!
I am sure going to miss this place.

Great job Mayor

Anonymous said...

1:40, the mayor has nothing to do with it.

Anonymous said...

1:40, I take it you'll also be thanking the mayor for all the new Asian restaurants that have opened around here over the past few years?

SO SORRY TO SEE YOU GO. MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS ALL HAVE EATEN THERE WHEN WE WANT TO DINE OUT. ENJOYED THE FOOD AND SERVICE. HAVE A GOOD LIFE AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE YEARS YOU HAVE GIVEN TO SALISBURY.

The Sun family was always happy to see us there and treated us as part of their family, (at least that is how we felt), and we will miss them and their great food. I remember when Zia's went out of business the comments here on Joe's blog were none too good about how those Boob brothers were lousy businessmen, and no one was going to miss them. It is a dam shame to loose such a fine restaurant and such a wonderful family as the Suns, God bless you in your retirement!

You can tell quality people and a quality business by the way they treat people. Announcing your business closing, in time for folks to redeem gift cards, AND, the new owner will also redeem them , this is a class act. Kudos to the Sun family, not like those crooks that ran Zia's

Many great memories at Imperial Gallery over 30+ years. Who can make Triple Delights like they can?

Those Boubis brothers were very mean to their staff and rude to the customers, not like the Suns, that always were happy to see you! They and the rest of the family will be missed, I hope they are happy and healthy in retirement!

Supply and demand. Tons of Asian restaurants located on busier places.
