We're 24 Hours Away

With only 24 hours left in 2013, the biggest topic being discussed at year end is Jim Ireton and Jake Day's plan to sell off the Downtown Parking Lots.

The RFP is now official and the proposed selling prices are just ridiculous.  You are welcome to GO HERE and see just what I'm talking about.

In one breath Jim and Jake want you to believe this will revitalize Downtown, yet they shot themselves in the foot with the Third Friday event becoming so successful.  That's right, the last event was so successful, guess what, people couldn't find parking Downtown.

Please, do tell me what people are going to do when all the parking lots are sold, buildings are now taking up that space and uh oh, wait a minute, where are the people who are living and working in these new structures going to PARK once completed?

I have never seen a more stupid group of people in my life. Two years ago I put up a Post stating Ireton was putting the cart before the horse. They have no answers. It started with the Waste Water Treatment Plant, then the Old Mall, then the new Fire Station 16, then the sale of the old Station 16, now the parking lots. One Good Ol' Boy scam after the other. How's it working for you Mr. & Mrs. Taxpayer?

Oh well, here's the good that will come from all of this. Guess what, there's NOTHING left to sell. The Mayor and Council President have pretty much whore'd themselves out to the point that there's nothing left to give away. Jim Ireton will not run again for Mayor and I truly doubt anyone will attempt to fix another election any time soon. Jake Day may try to run for Mayor, (I sure hope he does) and that would be awesome. Just when I think Salisbury News might run out of material, Idiots like Jim Ireton and Jake Day comes along and secure another 4 years of great material.

The following message is directed to Jake Day. You want to go on Facebook and say things about the "Albero Family", well put on your seat belt in 2014 because I will dedicate the entire year to exposing Jake Day. With all the traffic we get here on Salisbury News, we WILL be the #1 spot on Google whenever you type in Jake Day. Enjoy the ride.

When this fails, as it will, we can all sit back and take great pleasure in rubbing it in their faces with "I told you so."

Joe, thanks for bringing this subject up. As I look around the existing core of the Downtown, my conservative estimate is that there is close to 60,000 square feet of vacant first floor storefront space, and around 1.3 million square feet of second floor and above vacant space which could be used for either office or residential use.

If this EXISTING space became occupied, there's no way that the existing parking ramp and lots could hold the demand. We would be in dire need of a second parking garage.

There is a sound reason that retailers do not open up stores downtown but they do rent space at the mall.

Anyone here like to venture a guess?

Hint: Cambridge, Easton, Berlin, Delmar, every other town out here with a successful Downtown. What is different about ours?

I saw that message on facebook. I thought, does Day have any idea who he's messing with. Should be an interesting year.

I see McCain did the appraisals. Boy, they all do stick together! The good ole' boy network is alive and well.

The other downtowns are not scary like ours... not safe to walk at night presently, doubt this will change

This sounds like a useful expense of time, Joe. Or, maybe, you boys can grow up and do stop slinging mud at each other and start doing good for Salisbury. I know that's what I want my elected officials doing. You oughtta beat them to the punch.

This will fit into Pollitt's plan to move the library from downtown. Watch out county taxpayers this is going to cost you.

The real reason this is being done is for the want of more monies to spend.

The plaza street is partially closed to traffic. If that was so successful why didn't other local towns do it? Move the planters, etc to the closed street in the city park.

All the other towns have free parking downtown, that's why people open stores there. Even a slum town like Cambridge has a bustling downtown that's a joy to shop in.

The truth hurts politicians worse than a bullet to the groin. Keep telling it. Tell it, tell it. Expose their civil and criminal actions and keep pounding them until they scream for mercy.
Just don't give them any....

10:29, I have no dog in this fight as I don't live in Salisbury, but is having to pay for parking downtown really the issue? Last I checked you can park in the lots or the garage for up to 2 hours for free and it's only $1.00 per hour after that. People who balk at spending a couple bucks for several hours of parking probably aren't the type who are going to spend much money at downtown businesses either.

Are you going to run for mayor again Joe? I hope so, we need to clean the bums out for good this time! Paper ballots!!!

The residential market is so bad, the old mall property isn't economically viable. IF there were a profit to be had making new residential homes, that place would be booming.

The commercial market is so bad, downtown isn't even close to full.

This is really about a transfer of wealth from the citizens to a few connected people.

And nobody involved really cares how much parking is available downtown. The whole point is to pack in a lot of people and limit their availability to get in or out. It's going to be a prison camp.

Run for mayor again? HA, he couldn't bare to be humiliated again.

anonymous 1:00, Humiliated, are you serious?

If there's ONE person in this entire community that has been a man of his word, it's me.

For 10 years now I have stood up for the underdogs on the Eastern Shore.

I have cleaned neighborhoods, shoveled driveways, pulled weeds and we have spent 16 hours a day, 365 days a year exposing what's going on locally.

Unlike YOU, I was the ONLY person man enough to stand up to City Hall and run a fair and honorable race.

I was honored to meet many thousands of people I had never known and made tons of new friends along the way. We not only opened eyes, many of these people are now regulars right here on Salisbury News. Many instantly came to learn Joe Albero is not the guy the nay sayers claimed me to be.

Humiliated, I think not. Extremely smart is more like it.

Now, you THINK for a few minutes. Would YOU like to be Mayor of Salisbury, would anyone?

However, if you had an up and coming business and you could run for Mayor knowing it's a win/win situation, well, that's some incredible marketing, I'd say.

So you go back to Jimmy and tell him Joe Albero says congratulations. At midnight tonight you'll see who the actual winner of that race was.

I don't know 12:20. Having experience dealing with the quite wealthy (some up in the 2 bil worth range) they tend to be the most frugal people when it comes to nickels and dimes. Easton which is home to many of these very wealthy people did away with parking meters some time ago found it helps business. Parking must be convenient also otherwise they won't come.

Joe - Some people believe that last mayoral election was fixed. I'm one of them. Your post says you "truly doubt anyone will attempt to fix another election any time soon." Well, apparently you agree. I have to ask, are you doing anything about it? And, do you think there is a chance it will be exposed?

Happy New Year and thanks for all you do.

There is no worry over parking prices/ meters at any Eastern Shore shopping facility that makes money/ I would hope I won't have to point out ALL the malls, ALL the outlet stores. and ALL the downtowns.

Anyone out to spend money wants to buy a product at the best savings without external costs such as parking fees, fines, towing, or any other hassles. Heck, even sales tax is an issue, as folks travel to Delaware to avoid it, and wind up "smuggling" it into MD.

I personally hate going Downtown, even when I have to do business at the GOB (which is the ONLY reason I do).

Screw your meter fees vs. a parking fine. No, I can't walk the 2 blocks from the "Free Lot". And, where are the Handicap spaces required by law? Metered, too?

Find me at the north end or in other towns, not here.
