Ocean City Cleaning Up After Winter Storm

(Photo courtesy of Chris Parypa Photography)
(January 22, 2014) – Ocean City employees are working this morning to clean up after last night’s winter storm, which resulted in approximately 4 inches of snow in the resort community.  With sustained winds at 20 to 30 miles per hour, and gusts upward of 45 miles per hour, the winter storm brought frigid temperatures and blizzard-like conditions.
The Town of Ocean City’s winter storm plan remains in effect as crews and contractors continue cleanup efforts.  Liberal leave for Town of Ocean City employees has been authorized for today, Wednesday, January 22, and all Ocean City Recreation and Parks daytime programs have been canceled. For Ocean City Recreation and Parks evening programs, please call the weather cancellation hotline at 410.250.2124. In addition, ADA and MEDTRN service has been canceled for today due to the inclement weather.
“We are working closely with the State Highway Association and county and town partners to clear primary and secondary roads,” said Town of Ocean City’s Emergency Services Director Joseph Theobald.  “Our public works department has worked throughout the early morning hours to clear roadways and parking lots, however; we continue to encourage citizens to limit travel and use extra caution and reduce speed if they must be on the road.”
Due to the combination of heavy snow, gusty winds and very cold temperatures, travel is strongly discouraged late today and tonight. If you must travel, please use extra caution and follow these winter driving safety tips: http://ocpdmdinfo.blogspot.com/2014/01/ocean-city-under-winter-storm-warning.html.
