Retailers Try To Win Over Employees Who Work This Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving barrier has been breached by retailers, and the previously untouchable holiday is now just another day on which to have a big sale. In an attempt to win over employees who may not be too thrilled about having to eat Thanksgiving dinner at noon so they can make it to work on time, some stores are providing perks to workers who sacrifice their Turkey Day in the name of doorbuster deals.

The L.A. Times reports that Walmart is giving 25% discounts on certain purchases to employees who work this Thanksgiving. More importantly, they will get an additional day’s pay equal to that worker’s average daily pay in the 12 previous weeks.

Meanwhile Toys R Us employees get to wear jeans and sneakers… because if you’re going to tear them away from their families, they might as well be comfy.

Kohl’s and the Gap Inc. trinity — Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic — will be doing vague, fun things for workers, which mostly seems to indicate that there will be snacks.

I for one will not be there.

I do not care what lame crap they offer, nothing replaces a holiday with friends or family so that the mega retailers can rake in more money. Elitist attitude, holidays are only for the rich now.
I am sure that minimum wage worker is jumping for joy. Bad enough they get trampled by rude people all day Friday, the least they could have is a day off to enjoy the company of those they love.

Nobody should be forced to work a holiday or punished for not working a holiday.

For those of us that don't support that, we don't shop those days. No one should complain if they are one of the ones out there shopping.

Sleeping in tents so you will be first in line?! That's craziness. Corp's will continue to do this crap until people no longer go to any length to go shopping and make fools of themselves.

What are you thankful for? Being first in line when they open the doors? Isn't that just special...

I think that maybe I'll open a retail store and have a sale the day before Thanksgiving and call it " White Wednesday". But , I guess that would be considered racist.

As goes with it's own holidays, so goes the Gov't that created them.

Stop the madness. Stop shopping. Show the MAN that you are not going to be part of the system any longer. Just STOP shopping. You would be surprised that once you break the habit of needless spending for things you don't need (NO... I'm not talking groceries) it is a very freeing experience. I for one have opted out. I think at least 3 times now before spending a cent. Do I need this? Can I make do without it? What do I already own that would replace it? Try it for a week as a challenge. Break the addiction.

just shows how stupid the average american is. Most of this crap being sold is really of lesser quality. Do you honestly think they are going to take the same model and style of a 60" Hi def tv and sell it for half the price it's been selling for all year? Not gonna happen. so when the piece of crap breaks down in 6 months you'll have what you paid for. however watching these mental midgets fighting over crap is funny to watch! This appears to be the one time our government and corporate America want to us to think about Christmas! Shop for Jesus! What a Joke! They all miss the point of the season!

Want to stop this "a dollar at any cost" greed? Make every company CEO, President, Corporate officer, Regional manager and District manager, open and stay all day at their respective establishments. And make them actually work for $8 an hour. GUARANTEE that will be the last time they open on a holiday.
