Statement From Governor Martin O’Malley On NAACP President Ben Jealous

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley issued the following statement on National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) President Ben Jealous's decision to step down as head of the NAACP at the end of the year:

“Under Ben Jealous’s leadership, the NAACP has continued its fight for fairness and equality across our nation. He has served as a voice for those whose voices have been silenced, and a remarkable example of what we can do together for justice and opportunity.

“Ben shares our belief in the dignity of every individual. Thanks to his unwavering partnership in Maryland, together, we’ve been able to move our State forward. Ben has helped us repeal the death penalty, pass the Dream Act, ensure marriage equality, and expand voting in our State - among so many other great achievements.

“I wish Ben well in his future endeavors.”
