Question Of The Day 9-17-13

Does the shooting at the Navy Yard change your thoughts on gun control?

yes, we need more concealed carry and open carry

Guns are banned in DC! They have a law that makes it illegal, how can this be?

Anonymous said...

439-That law was overturned by the SCOTUS years ago.

Doesn't change my opinion that gun laws are too stringent and tilt the playing field to the criminals/nut cases.

Who cares about guns? Guns aren't the issue here. Mental health is. End of discussion can we move on?

How did this clown get past Security at the Naval Yard?

"Even though the Supreme Court struck down D.C.’s ban on the possession of handguns in the home in 2008, the District still has a litany of laws on the books that make it more difficult to obtain some firearms, impossible to obtain others, and illegal to carry any loaded gun in the city"

Guns are not the issue. If the justice system had done something with him the first two bites of the apple, we may not have had this tragedy. If the mental health system had done something we may have not been in this situation. Don't blame this tragedy on a inanimate object. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

I agree 4:41pm

"Article [II]
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Just remember this is a direct quote, no editorializing here.

No-Gun laws and restrictions only stop honest people and not those intent on breaking the law.
Focusing on guns is a copout.
Focusing on guns is just as stupid as blaming a pressure cooker for the Boston bombings.
It's the mindset of a person that allows them to kill whether they be mentally ill, truly evil or raised without values and morals and a respect for others and life.

Sorry folks, I do think that guns are an issue. There is too much violence in the world. Why make it easier for such thing to happen? I have never owned a gun in my life and never will.

Anonymous said...

It hasn't changed my mind , however , I do think more people should become armed for safety

NO

It is strange that on a military base the military can not carry guns but a contract worker can.

What in the world are you talking about?

4:59.......thank God they're just a few of you! Next time we go to war......I'll thrown your butt out front as bait.

4:59-How can you say it's guns?
You are the reason that there is so much violence. You are an enabler and an excuse maker. You have blood on your hands because you refuse to see the real problem.
Years ago guns were much much more prevalent then today and much easier to get. These mass shootings and the high murder rates are a new phenomenon.
The problem is people and a lack of morals due to a breakdown of the family. It also doesn't help that kids are being drugged up to conform the what so called experts think they should be.
You people need to grow a backbone and stop being so weak and afraid to say what the real problem is.

Anonymous said...

No guns are not the problem..evil minds are...remember Cane Slew Abel with the rock !!!..guns are not the cause twisted evil that lurks in some mens heart is!! that is the true enemy

I am a huge gun-nut! But your argument is pretty terrible. Your facts are not proven (we have a lower homicide rate duh) and 3/4 of your statements could easily be used by your opposition.

3/10 please try harder next time you want to represent the gun-owning community.

Agree completely with 4:59, this is inasanity folks...wake up.

Guys,

Gun crime is way down since the last assault weapons ban expired in 1992. I think it's in the neighborhood of 40% - 60%. Unfortunately, people watching the news are conditioned by seeing reports of gun violence all the time, so they think that it's much higher than ever.

The places where gun crime is out of control are places where the toughest gun control laws are on the books. Detriot, Chicago, LA, DC, etc. Despite record numbers of violence in these large metro cities, overall gun crime is way down!

And you would expect gun crime to go up during the great recession, as people are more desperate to provide for their families. But gun crime is down since the recession started, too.

Also consider mass shootings. They always take place in places where guns are not allowed. Columbine and Sandy Hook - schools. Ft Hood and the Naval Yard - military installations (on some bases, not even the MPs have loaded guns. And former SecDef Panetta forbid armed troops in his presence). This delays response and ensures maximum carnage. When was the last time there was a mass shooting at a range? Never!

I'm no statistical genius, but common sense tells me that gun control laws don't work.

Think about it - if you are the only person with a gun, you are guaranteed the ability to coerce the people in your presence because of your threat of violence.

If everybody around you is armed, your chances of success go way down, while your chances of getting injured or killed go way up. THe payoff just isn't as good.

I don't think I would have stood a chance against the mental case with my pepper spray. I agree... it isn't the weapons.. it is lack of good mental health.

Anonymous said...

He was just following VP Biden's orders and bought a shot gun!!!!

Gun free zones are the best target of a mentally deranged person who decides to be a mass shooter. CCW and open carry should be allowed everywhere. And, yes, flyers, everywhere.

Everyone would then be so polite!

5:16 i agree..no solid core values or golden rules, commandments ignored... familes destroyed ....generations of fatherless kids lost to progressive ideals.....but they should be looking real hard at Big Pharma .....we allow them to have our kids in a drug induced haze...generations of drug pill zombies...but no natural weed allowed (natures true solution to these problems.whynot ...because .big pharma and the acholol lobbies wont have it..no money if you can grow your own medicine)So we have what the FDA supports big pharma and this pill solution crap?....side effects WOW AMAZING HA LOL youve seen the commercials..depession is treated with pills and results in what we see today with these mass murders.....the facts are evident..the problem is drug treated wackos...supported by the FDA AND BIG PHARMAA not video games or phatom AR-15s ...some kill others... most commit suicide..hence the increase in suicides...BLAME BIG PHARMA...not remmington arms or other brothers in support of keeping us truly free...

It sure has -- now I'm carrying my piece locked and fully loaded.

Make my day!

Anonymous said...

More unintended consequences caused by liberal Democrats who insist on "Gun free zones." I ask you, what's more fair and equal then when all law abiding citizens can carry a firearm?

Anonymous said...

H--L no proves we need more people carrying guns. How many were saved when the gun carriers
went in?

Bullard Construction said...

Carry everywhere needs to be the order of the day. Politeness will therefore occur. Everywhere. Period.

Guessing you're a liberal. Secondly, I know no one wants to hear this, but its a colored thing (the correct term based on the NAACP). Colored people across the US commit most of these gun crimes, its proven. I hope this comment doesn't get denied, but everyone is afraid to state such.

No,but it should change the nations thoughts on privacy issues.

You mean the authorized and HIGHLY TRAINED CARRIERS?

lmclain said...

Carry a gun ALL THE TIME. To hell with every cop and politician who tells you otherwise. They CANNOT 'protect' you --- only report the next statistic (*you) and file a report. The only thing this incident should do is show you that you need to carry extra mags....

Anonymous said...

yes! who has ever heard of an unarmed military base?! oh, right... ft. hood exploited by nidal hassan, and now this puke. at least he's dead.

Anonymous said...

4:49 PM

You really need to research your false information.

Anonymous said...

5:50 is correct. If you would please note that all the recent major shooting establishments were in gun free zones. So, to all the politicians that create gun free zones, perhaps where you work should be one as well. So, I suggest the chambers of the House and Senate and the White House be established as gun free zones. No one, is allowed on the property with a gun including security.

Anyone who has ever been in the military. Except for MPs, soldiers do not walk around armed at all times.

Come on, why are you not correcting the rumors?

ty now I can go to sleep lol

If only kids were praying in school, this whole thing could have been averted. That, and teaching evolution caused this tragedy.

5:22-We have a lower homicide rate than back in the 1950's and well into the 1970's?
No--- we do not and back then and even earlier than the 1950's the majority of rural and suburban homes had guns.
And don't say the murder rate is lower. That's ignoring an important part of gun violence. That's propaganda. More people are getting shot then ever and more are just happening to live. Or they are shooting and missing which happens right here in Sby from time to time.
Almost a day doesn't go by where someone in Baltimore City isn't brought into an ER or shock trauma with a gunshot wound. Some days it's multiple victims.
This is occurring in cities nationwide.
You really need to get out and see the real US. The majority of gun violence is centered in the inner cities. It's also the place where anything goes-no morals, no rules, no guidance. You don't think those things go hand in hand? It's just a coincidence to you that most gun violence and homicides are committed by someone who never had strong family values and most often without a father or a positive male role model?

The military can carry weapons, just as they have always done. They are called MPs. And the contract worker took two handguns from the military guards.

Do any of you read?
