FRIDAY, MAY 31, 2013 IS WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY

(Salisbury, MD) - - World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on May 31st. The member States of the World Health Organization created World No Tobacco Day in 1987. It is meant to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption. The day is further intended to draw global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to 6 million deaths worldwide annually. The theme of this year’s campaign is "Ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship."

The Wicomico County Health Department offers free smoking cessation support for those that live or work in Wicomico County. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon at the Wicomico County Health Department located at 108 E. Main Street in Salisbury. The program offers free education and group support as well as individual counseling. Participants are eligible for low cost quit smoking medications. Those available are nicotine replacement patches, Zyban, and Chantix.

Anyone interested in the program may call (410) 219-7482 for more information.

if it is so bad stop taxing it and ban it. but we won't do that because of the taxing part. so stop demonizing it. this is still a free country
