Joe Albero Announces Economic Development Plan

ALBERO RELEASES PLAN TO GROW SALISBURY’S ECONOMY
Salisbury Cannot Tax Its Way Out of Current Fiscal Problems

SALISBURY, MD – Salisbury mayoral candidate Joe Albero has released his plan to revitalize Salisbury’s stagnant economy. By attracting new businesses, and encouraging existing businesses to expand, Salisbury’s local economy can become a job creation engine which positively impacts the city’s overall quality of life by increasing home ownership, reducing crime, and providing needed revenue to improve the city’s infrastructure and to improve the level of service delivery.

Albero stated, “Today I have release a detailed outline for improving Salisbury’s local economy. Some may view this plan as broad; and it is. Unlike our current mayor, and his predecessor, I refuse to take a ‘my way or the highway’ approach to policy. While I have outlined the direction I believe Salisbury needs to move, I will ask for input from all relevant stakeholders. This includes the business community and the members of the next city council.

“From the day I declared my candidacy for mayor, I have talked about the need to improve the city’s attitude toward and our reputation with the business community. Successive administrations have had a schizophrenic attitude towards business. Some businesses receive direct taxpayer subsidies while others are viewed as entities to be taxed, fined, and charged fees.

“This view ends on the first day of an Albero administration. Successful businesses deliver superior customer service. The city of Salisbury, and its employees, need to view the city’s businesses and residents as valued customers. Our motto needs to be, ‘How can we help you?’, NOT ‘Write us a check and we’ll get around to it when we can.’ Permitting and requests to public works must be carried out in a timely fashion. Doing business in the city needs to be predictable. Bureaucratic red tape can be hallmarks of communities we compete with but cannot be tolerated here if we are serious about growing Salisbury’s economy.”

Albero is challenging incumbent mayor Jim Ireton. Salisbury voters will choose which direction they wish the city to move towards on April 2nd.

Very reasoned approach and well articulated. Where would one find the current Mare's Economic Development Plan for a point by point comparison?

Good job Joe!!

Now that's leadership. It took me a while to read the whole thing but I seriously can't think of one thing I'd challenge. A breath of fresh air. Glad to hear you'd be willing to do something with the waterfront parking lots.

That whole vacant area across the river from Brew River would make a nice place for any business.

It can only help this town to have a business friendly mayor for a change.

great plan...citizens of salisbury and the surrounding area; "real help is on the way".

My brakes are worn out now said...

Great Job Joe, and while your at it can you make a mandatory class for Salisbury GEESE University?

"PLEASE DO NOT WALK OUT IN FRONT OF MOVING TRAFFIC LIKE A GOOSE DOES" class.

thanks

In theory, city council's not changing commitments of past councils is a good idea.

There is a time and place to do that, though. I was shocked to learn about all the "commitments" the administration made without the council's knowledge. Then there was that half-baked idea with the Bricks and the ones where a "commitment" wasn't legally binding. (I think that applied to the Bricks too because I think it was found out the city didn't owe that developer any money.)

You could start by getting some professionals in there making all these grand plans, Joe. People should be grateful the council has caught Ireton's screw ups as often as they have.

Are you kidding: "our
downtown is currently long on arts and short on entertainment."

The Art Institute & Gallery is hanging on by its nails and there's not much else in the "Downtown".

So what's your view on the new "stormwater" tax -- almost $19 Million per year -- that Ireton and Day are pushing?

Jimbeau's econ plan is to bring back Flavors so he can boogie more.

10;10 --

I believe that the vacant area across the ditch from Brew River was sold at foreclosure today. Don't know who bought it or if the bank did.

Crime rate rules this town. Everybody knows that, Good luck Joe, Maybe, you are what salisbury need.

Joe, this is a great plan, but you will never get it done unless Campbell wins, too. Heaven help us if Jim and Day both win. The city might as well go ahead and declare bankruptcy. We'll spend $1.8 million on the Bricks, our EDUs will be used as another form of developer reimbursements/subsidies and we all know they have never seen a tax or fee that they didn't like.

Your plan should be sent to the county and state government also because they need a guide-line like this.

8:35 Thanks, needed to know that!

Joe,watch out for the enviromentalists, they wont like your pro-growth agenda.

If, like the first poster, you spell the word "mayor" as "mare," then you shouldn't have the right to vote. Just a thought.

Not as long as that Ghetto is over there. Sad, but true how that area was prime real estate with the upper middle class people living in that area. All of the homes were owner occupied as well. Unfortunately that are is all rental and has some of the highest crime rate in the city.

4:48 you obviously don't read the paper. the county council and exec have already undertaken such a plan including a one stop shop for permitting

anonymous 6:47, you, as well as every one else should ask yourself, why did it take my running for Office for Jim Ireton to finally wake up and realize this is a major problem. Because Jim Ireton is PART TIME and has NO CLUE what is happening in the real lworld.

Those who are investing in Salisbury are being screwed by the Mayor's Office as well as many of the departments in Salisbury, all led by the Mayor.

If I was just out there with Salisbury News exposing the economic problems, Ireton would spit in my face and tell me to go away.

IF you are happy with the way things have been for the past 16 years, vote for Barrie Tilghman, I mean, Jim Ireton.

Joe -- your comment at 6:52 is spoton -- Theresa Gardner (Pub. works) has got to
go ASAP -- will you can her on day 1 as Mayor (along with Lore Chambers)?

If Joe is going to be successful in this election and to make this plan happen he needs Debbie on the council. The best thing we can do is to go to her page and support her like we are doing for Joe.

Go to FaceBook and put in Campbell4Salisbury.

Vote Joe Albero and Debbie Campbell.

Hey Joe can you do something with the procurement I get tired of bidding jobs for the city & county and losing to companys from across the bridge or from not being connected to the good old boy network.

Anonymous said...

Debbie Campbell will not rubber stamp what Joe does, but they will always be able to listen to each other.

Anonymous said...

joe regarding your 6:52 post. not defending Ireton. simply pointing out to an earlier poster that he or she hasn't been paying attention to ongoing efforts outside city government.
