Troopers To Honor Tpr. George W. Emory

Harrington, DE- On Thursday September 13, 2012, Troopers will converge upon US 13 southbound in Harrington, to pay tribute to Trooper George W. Emory who was tragically killed in the line of duty on June 2, 1972. With the help of Delaware Department of Transportation, a memorial sign was erected at the location of the fatal crash scene honoring Tpr. Emory.

Traffic disruptions are anticipated to be minimal as the event will be confined to the Subway Sandwich Shop complex parking lot to the East of US13.

1946-1972
On Friday, June 2, 1972 Trooper George Emory was killed in an accident on South Route 13 near Harrington. George Emory was on his way home after a tour of duty at Troop 3 near Camden when his patrol vehicle, which was part of a take-home program, was struck in the rear. Trooper Emory was removed from the accident scene and taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. George Emory was born in Lewes, Delaware. He was a graduate of Seaford High School and served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Trooper Emory was awarded the bronze star and two presidential unit citations. He was appointed a State Trooper on May 15, 1970. Trooper Emory was not married and is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Emory, two brothers, Christopher and A. Wade, and a sister, Barbara Ammons. Services were held at St. Luke’s Church with internment in the church cemetery.
