Maryland Live! Casino Revenues Exceed Expectations

HANOVER, Md. -
The new Maryland Live! casino has drawn a half million visitors and paid more than $19 million in state taxes, and it's not even operating at full capacity.

The Las Vegas-style opening of Maryland Live! casino has drawn a half million visitors during just 24 days of operation, exceeding expectations by generating more than $28 million in revenues -- more than half the statewide total of $40 million for the month of June. Casino operators are not surprised.
"This facility was designed to attract (people from) northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., (and) Montgomery, Prince George's, Howard and Anne Arundel counties," said Joe Weinberg, president of the Cordish Companies, which operates Maryland Live!

And while Baltimore City schools grab 10% of Ocean Downs profits thanks to Mathias and Conway, how much do they get from the new venue? You got it, zilch!

The people are coming from N Va and DC? Yeah right! Try Arbutus, Landsdown, SW Baltimore, Brooklyn Park, Curtis Bay and all those other low rent districts nearby.
These people are so full of it.

they should have done the Bay as a Riverboat Gambling deal with Ports of Call...that would have been too classy for they State to deal with..no neighborhood decay ..it might have become a great place to take a date have dinner and enjoy the evening on the Bay...that is just too positive for this State

Casino gambling is exactly what we need in OC, something for dad. I mean it is advertised as something for the whole family, but I don’t know of many “Dads” that love swimming or baking in the sun. Mom and the kids are fine with it, but poor old dad has nothing to do. Then there is the plus side of full year round revenue for the city, tour busses, and a constant flow of folks trying their luck.
Some say it would destroy the “Family atmosphere”; the folks that are going to go to a casino are not the same folks that are going to bring their kids to a beach. Besides, no one under 21 is even allowed in a casino so no kids are taken away from the shops and restaurants in OC.
And then there are the usual arguments of increased crime, look at the real numbers around some of the new casinos, HASENT HAPPENED!!!! It is Bull S&it!!!! Is Harrington a crime infested city with killers and muggers on each corner? Salisbury is more crime ridden; we got a murder rate almost as high as some major cities! Time to wake up and hear the jungle of cash!

If this is the case, "Where's the Money."

If the "dads" vactioning in OC want to gamble they can certainly drive the few miles to Ocean Downs. I don't think most vactioners who come to OC care about gambling while there. Most have gambling in their own states so it's not a novelty to them.
