Rally & Briefing On Plan Maryland

Dear Friends,

I received this information from Senator E.J. Pipkin and wanted to pass it along to you. As many of you are aware, PlanMaryland is a challenge to local authority and intends to centralize planning within the state's Department of Planning. The Maryland Senate Committee on Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs will be conducting a briefing on on December 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM. At this briefing both supporters and opponents to the Comprehensive State Plan will be allowed to speak. While the panel of both sides will be limited to the number of speakers, a presence of local officials and citizens will signify to the Committee that there are real concerns regarding PlanMaryland. The presence of county officials, farmers, and landowners will show strength in our numbers.

As of right now, the Committee will conduct the briefing within the hearing room, which is located on the 2nd Floor of the Miller Senate Building in Annapolis. Before the briefing there will be a Rally on Lawyer's Mall in Annapolis at 9:30 AM. Because not everyone will be able to speak at the briefing, this will provide a forum for citizens to express their concerns publicly. The press will be in attendance, so a strong showing will impress. Although I would encourage you to attend both the Rally and the Hearing, if you can only attend one part of the day, that would be great.

What: Rally and Briefing on PlanMaryland

Where: Rally - Lawyer's Mall, Annapolis, MD
Briefing - Senate Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee Room, 2nd Floor Miller Senate Building, Annapolis, MD

It would be great to see many of you there on Monday, December 12th.

A planning and zoning rep from each jurisdiction (counties and municipalities) should attend this event. Listen carefully! Small towns may eventually have to turn over their planning and zoning authority to the State. That's what they want you to do!

Look out, Maryland, read the script. This sounds like an insult to our intelligence.

No doubt the Wicomico Environmental Trust and its mouthpiece, Mr. Pretl, will be there to support this land grab.
