Firefighters Watch Another House Burn To The Ground Because Of Unpaid $75 Fee

In October 2010, firefighters in South Fulton, TN, were criticized all across the country after they refused to put out a fire because the homeowner hadn't paid a $75 "fire subscription fee" to the city. If you thought such public scrutiny might have changed that policy, think again.

guess they shouldve paid the fee.

rules are in place. if you dont follow them, you suffer the consequences. pretty simple system.

1)These people live in a jurisdiction that does not provide fire service, the county.

2)The city next door provides fire service to its residents, and offers it to county residents if they pay a $75 fee (a tax, of sorts)

If you don't pay, you don't get it. If you only paid when your house caught fire, even if it was a steep price such as a few thousand dollars, no one would pay to subscribe.

The simple solution would appear to be to demand that county representatives establish an agreement with the city for fire service, and that their county taxes will pay for this service. But this appears to be a matter of people not wanting the additional tax and to have a "choice". These people chose not to pay because they didn't think it would happen to them, and this is the consequence.

It seems to me that if they are paid by the city , they should respond for any life threatening fire or accident.

So,the Fireman stood around and watched a family lose everything they owned for $75! Wonder what would have happened if the Fireman had just a touch of compassion and saved some of these folks posession and the hell with the $75
So much for the Fire Dept being there to protect life and property.

Sounds like a private owned fire company-you dont pay,you dont get service!

@305pm
tell you what, fire company gets no money. if your house burns, THEN ill pay the $75. ill even give you a $3.50 tip!

ill bet all the firemen with their big fancy expensive equipment will rush right out to you! oh wait...theres no firemen cuz theyre not paid. and theres no equipment cuz theres no money. so why would we need a fire company if theres no equipment or firemen to house?
awesome! you just saved us a ton of money!

That is pretty sick . I guess if people were in the house they would let them burn up too. it just goes to show you the kind of world we live in. Money talks and BS walks.
