Sunday Daily Times Letter To The Editor

It's been quite a while since I have purchased a Sunday Daily Times and today I decided to treat myself.  I quit buying all newspapers when I lost my job several years back and had to cut corners.  Now that I have a fairly secure job, I thought it was time to enjoy the Sunday paper.  Boy, what a shock.  After I took out the 2 pounds of advertisements, I had a few pages of nothing left.  What a disappointment.  I can remember years back when I could sit for 2 hours reading the paper on Sunday morning.  Now I could probably finish it in 2 minutes.  That's my last purchase of a Sunday paper.

They also forgot to continue the two articles in Section D on page D4 as they stated. These articles were both by Brice Stump. He is the only reason to get the Sunday paper.

Even their website news is old news. Check it out - and one will notice that the DT continues to post 1 week old news and keeps repeating it over and over again on subsequent daily editions.

In my estimation - The Daily Times has really lost its grounding.

it is a pathetic attempt at a local paper. They have missed a ton of stories.. I stopped years ago getting a paper. Their website is a joke of junk

I'll tell you something that is stunning about The Daily Times and that is their parent company's stock price.

I have watched as the stock - (GCI)trading symbol - has gone from trading in the $90 dollar/Share range to where it is now at about $10/Share.

They can keep cutting all they want - but the 'handwriting is on the wall' in my estimation.

The only reason we get the paper is for the coupons.
They really missed the mark for the Extreme Home Edition visiting our town. Just today, 10/9 there was a picture of the pep rally that was at least 2 weeks ago. Sad.

News publications, including sbynews, rely on advertising for revenue to fund their operation. Obviously, many advertisers feel that the DT is a better format for them than venues such as sbynews. They may be right. On the other hand, it could be that printed promotion is less desirable these days than electronic. QVC is for the people that have not yet migrated to electronic but have abandoned realtime shopping such as malls. QVC will fade too over time.

Not only do we have a Postal Service on the rocks but we also have the Government Printing Office (GPO.gov) just as outmoded. The USPS should be replaced by a website if it truly needs to remain as a "service". They can offer free web based email if that's even needed anymore.

anonymous 6:05, I'm not so sure just how you are so clueless about Salisbury News.

Salisbury News does NOT nor ever has been dependednt on our advertisers.

In fact, we do not reach out to our advertisers for their business, they come to us.

That being said, I think this week we'll go ahead and make that change though.

If anyone out there is interested in a sales position you can send me a resume at alberobutzo@wmconnect.com. Its time to finish this once and for all.

I chuckled at the council leader taking the Daily Times to task for its ignorance of what a legislative body does.

Not really worth the cost of the paper, but it brightened my day.
