ROCKVILLE, Md. - Montgomery County council members and the county's school leaders are at odds over how nine reaming school resource officer positions should be funded.
The nine law enforcement officers are assigned to 24 highs schools. The council members say the school system should put up the money to pay the officers in they are to remain in place next year, according to the Gazette.
County Executive Isiah Legget has recommended eliminating the positions, saving about $1 million.

A great illustration of how far our schools have progressed, despite the overwhelming attention our "leader" have given to the subject in the last 15 years. We argue about how many COPS we're going to put in the schools....
nine officers = 1 million dollars in Mo Co.....no wonder we only get 150K from gambling while they get millions and host no casinos at all
Nine cops = a million dollars? Holy crap! I should have gotten less education...but maybe THAT wouldn't have helped....I'm 5'10"...probably too tall to be a cop.
Train the teachers to legally carry a gun for protection and protect the majority who attend school to obey rules and want to learn.
I'm sure they don't get paid that 1 million for 9 officers. You have to take into consideration how much is spent on other things. Health care, retirement, their vehicle, gas, maintenance... etc. I know they make a lot but not THAT much.
The burden they have comes from places like Silver Spring where all the illegals have settled.
