The Ocean City Police Department is mourning the loss of a member of the Patrol/Explosives Division, K-9 Delon. Delon, who recently turned eight, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, from a degenerative disk disorder in his spine.
Delon came to the Ocean City Police Department in 2005 from the Czech Republic, at which time he became the loyal and courageous partner to Pfc.
Freddie Howard. Delon spend over 1,000 devoted hours in training as the Ocean City Police Department’s only explosives K-9. Not only did he work with his Ocean City Police colleagues, but he also trained with Dover Air Force Base and the Ocean City Fire Marshal’s Office. Delon conducted explosives detection work in Worcester, Wicomico and Sussex counties and his dedication to his work on patrol lead to several arrest in Ocean City.
When Delon wasn’t searching for explosives or working patrol, he often participated in functions such as the Town of Ocean City’s Bonfire on the Beach, the Mayor’s Open House, National Night Out, the Citizen’s Police Academy and multiple demonstrations for local schools, summer camps and community oriented events.
“Delon’s passing is a huge loss to the department and to the city,” said Chief Bernadette DiPino. “His love for his job and his commitment to his community will be remembered by many.” Delon’s hard work and loyalty to his colleagues and citizens of Ocean City will be cherished forever by the Ocean City Police Department.

So sorry for the loss of Delon. I remember when we first started a k-9 Division. Sure came in handy at times. I cannot even begin to express my congratulations to members of OCPD. It is an agency to be proud of. Keep up the great work jackkcharl@aol
So sorry for your loss. What a beautiful dog and loyal companion.
How sad and they really do need a dog for their protection.
We lost our shepard to cancer just after his 8th birthday last year. Its been a long year without our friend. We send our sympathy and prayers.
To Officer Howard,
Delon will be waiting at the "Rainbow Bridge" for you, waiting for his long time friend.
Note to all: The Rainbow Bridge is where our pets/friends go in heaven, waiting for us.
