Last Unemployment Check Is In The Mail

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Although the deadline to file for extended unemployment insurance is officially Nov. 30, many jobless have already filed their last claim for benefits.

And since lawmakers aren't moving to extend the deadline anytime soon, many more unemployed Americans will run out of their extended federal benefits in coming weeks. About 2 million people are expected to stop receiving checks in December.

This is a tragedy. What's worse is the Republican party supporting unfunded tax breaks that add to the deficit for those making millions while condeming extension of unemployment benefits for those in need becase they would add to the deficit. Hypocrites!

Merry Christmas.

Let's balance the budget on the backs of the neediest people in our country. Now I see the republican solution to our problems.

1221 The real tragedy is your complete and total ignorance of basic economics.

1:10 we really should
why should almost have our population pay no income tax? let them contribute something. they get enough fromt the system

Oh please 1:14, enlighten us all. Seems to me your "basic" economics turned a budget surplus (2000) into an economic crisis of epic proportions. My memory is a bit better than yours. I do not subscribe to the "let them eat cake" mentality you expound.

there never was a surplus. SS, Medicare , and Medicaid and all the rest of the liabilities had future deficits all along. It was a scam that there was a surplus. If you have an extra $10 this week, but owe $5000 next week, you are not really in the black.

1:54 don't you know that Obama is responsible for the deficit. Of course, he did not start the useless war in Iraq that costs us 5000 lives so far, and 1 billion per week.
It is all the muslim Kenyan's fault. Of course he didn't give tax cuts to the rich.

Everytime marginal tax rates have decreased revenues have gone up. Tax rate cuts are not the same as revenue cuts and most of the time act inversly. See JFK in the early sixties, Reagan early 80s, and GWB. Of course you can't bring it in fast enough for liberals(As in Reagans leftwing Congress. We don't have a revenue problem, it is a spending problem!!!!!!! Civics lesson 1. The House of Representatives appropriates.

I believe the democrats were right up there with Bush backing him. The troops are still there... yet Obama promised to bring them home and close Gitmo. Why hasn't he done it?

It's sad when people are out of work, but if you pay them unemployment for 2 years, how many of them are going to work hard at finding a new job?
There are many who aren't really looking-- but they soon will be.
And you will see the employment numbers rise as they do.
But look carefully-- you can see the anger and frustration coming from those people who have been on long-term unemployment, and have become dependent on the gov't.-- just where the dems want them.

America was built on the backs of hard working Americans. When will the blood letting end?
