Yea gotta hate Bush for trying to hold teachers accountable. Just proves that public education is not the way to go. Private schools with government vouchers are the way to go if you want a better education for your kids.
The teachers under No child left behind had to show that the children were taught a certain level of curriculum and scored the student as well as the teacher on performance. These scores would dictate which schools got the appropriate funds.Better scores better funding.
NCLB was designed with good intention - to make sure all children are educated to the point where they can meet set standards. GREAT!! However, in execution it just doesn't work. It used to be that kids were grouped by reading level, now they are all thrown into the pot together. So one teacher now has to teach to 3-4 different reading levels simultaneously. Talk about impossible. The identified problem is the gap between the highest performers, and the lowest ones. Congrats America, last week I saw we rank anywhere from 21st to 25th, depending on the subject, in the world in education. All we have successfully done is lower our highest performers to decrease the education gap. We are in serious trouble people.
