Voting Has Become A Spectator Sport For The Bulk Of Those Eligible

Even reporters can be turned off by low voter turnout. Is anybody paying attention to candidates or the coverage of them?

The turnout was even worse than the widely broadcast 24%, despite early voting and easy absentee balloting. That 24% figure is based on registered voters – often termed “eligible voters.” But using U.S. Census Bureau estimates of the Maryland population 18 years and older, about 20% of people who could possibly vote in Maryland are not even registered. Subtract a couple hundred thousand felons and non-citizens, legal and otherwise, and there were still over 500,000 people who could have voted but didn’t even register on top of the 2.6 million registered voters who didn’t show up.

Are political campaigns a spectator sport like a Ravens or Redskins game where most people watch the game on TV or read about it after the fact?

Nobody cares anymore, they see it as useless wasted time. People are more worried about a roof over there kids head and food, go figure.

Must agree. I've been actively working for a local candidate for the past 16 years. You could allways figure out what happened (good or bad) but this last one is a real mystery. The winner is indorsed by PRO-CHOSE, rasied taxes, instate tutition for ilegale aliens, had the lease hits on SBYNews and health may not allow him to finish the elected term. Yet won with four times the votes. On his side he did have over 4 times the big money donations. Follow the money my friends right to the General Election. Stop doing what the big money guys what you to do. Think of your kids this time.
