A Letter To The Editor

HEY JOE-

DID YOU SEE WBOC YESTERDAY! THE MAYOR WENT POSTAL STATING EVERYTHING IN THE CITY GOES THROUGH HIM CAUSE AFTER ALL HE IS THE MAYOR. HE WAS FLIPPING WHEN STATING NO PRESS RELEASES WILL EVER GO OUT WITH OUT HIM APPROVING THEM"AFTER ALL I AM THE MAYOR". NOTHING IS DONE WITHOUT BEING ALLOWED BY ME, HE SAID POINTING AT HIS CHEST.

I GUESS THE SPD CAN'T MAKE AN ARREST WITHOUT BEING RUN BY HIM FIRST. DOES THIS ALSO MEAN THE SPD CAN'T MAKE ANY PRESS RELEASES TO THE PUBLIC EVEN IN TODAY'S TIMES WHEN HOMICIDES ARE DEFINATELY ON THE RISE. ARE WE IN THE USSR, IS THIS THE COLD WAR ERA, IS BIG BROTHER GOING TO SLAM THE HAMMER DOWN?

HE WAS VOTED INTO OFFICE NOT ANOINTED AS KING TO HIS ROYAL SUBJECTS, THAT IF THEY DEFY HIM THEY WILL BE CRUCIFIED OR BE-HEADED.

If you were paying attention, the reporter was trying to get the police chief and mayor to give details about an ongoing investigation, and they said they would not do so. By the way, they made an arrest in the case, so I guess it was smart not to tell WBOC that they were about to do so! Basic police work--you do not tell the media that you are about to make an arrest because there are other people who might then take off! WBOC screwed up, not the mayor.

ego is a major issue with ireton. always has been. remember "we the people".. we have the power - use it. see you at the polls.

i saw the interview and was very appalled to watch that clown point to his chest and state "I'M THE MAN". Sounds more like a teenager than a mayor. Very disappointing to see our mayor come across so arrogant. But like he said, he was elected to be "the boss".

Liberal cannot control their emotions that's why they don't make good leaders.

The mayor should have no knowledge of active police investigations. He is a civilian. I bet Marion Barry wished he all knowledge of police investigations in his city too.
My kids used to say "I'm the boss" when they were 2 also.

The mayor did his job and did it well , thank God he showed us he has a set of ball$ , and he is right , he is the boss. The investigation is ongoing and it's none of anyones business until further notice.

the reporter should have his a$$ kicked!

The difference between this mayor and the former mayor of Salisbury is she had balls. The former mayor intimidated the administration and dept heads, this mayor is intimidated by his administration and dept heads. This mayor is afraid of his own shadow. He won't make a decision on anything otherwise the administration would have a whole different face. Ireton is one term and he'll go down in flames.

11:45 most people were saying that during his air time during the Sarah Foxwell reports Dec. 22-24th. I am surprised his azz was not kicked at that time. He's begging for it.

The point Jim Ireton was making was that he wanted to make sure that the City administration (Police, other departments and his office) were on the same page and gave a single, cogent message to the public. Smart if you ask me. The CAP-loving-letter-to-the-editor-author would have a lot more to whine about if Chief Barkley said one thing and Jim Ireton said something else... Their only "sin" in this case was that they weren't yet prepared to speak to the press and that was obvious. And, Oh yeah... the USSR thing? Give me a break! Do you even know what you are writing? Read a book sometime CAP lover.

Well lets start by saying the Mayor sits down to piss. Just another hissy fit. He needs to keep his nose out of police work. He is right he is the Mayor. I have not seen his great crime reduction plan he boasted while running for office has worked at all. The fact is they are starting to kick butt at S.P.D. The reason being they are motivated and now have a true leader at the helm. Jimmy if it aint broke dont fix it.

Great work S.P.D. two birds with one stone.

I do not like the fact people are killing one another but hey all these people murdered in the last two weeks are known drug dealers and thugs. I will not say I feel for the family or what a tragedy any longer. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Joe way to stay on top things.

Mayor Ireton did owe the citizens a comment on this. He or the Chief did not not have to give details, but, we do pay their salary and needed to hear they are on top of things. Any brief staement would have been decent. I felt sorry for Chief Barkley, but, the Mayor showed total disrepect to the people he represents. Too bad Barkley can't do his job.

Barkley should have taken a stronger stance with the reporter in the beginning instead of just staring at him --he came across as somewhat dense to me. The mayor came across as usual--a pouty little baby that needs to be put in " time-out".

I came to the mayor for help one time. He said he did not have the power. Now he says he does ? What is the truth?

Ireton = arrogant buffoon!

The news report was more a circus than an informative report. Though I have great faith in Barkley he did not come across on that particular "interview" as a professional. As for the mayor...he doesn't even come close to being "the man or a man." He comes across as a very arrogant individual. Salisbury is no better off now than when Tilghman was on the throne. What is it with these officials....is there something in that office that affects their brain? Again, Salisbury's top officials makes the city laughable. "The Man" needs to let the SPD do their job and he needs to stay out of it. WBOC...the public needs to see news stories, not paparozi type reporting...

Jim Ireton without any doubt has to be the worst person to hold the office of mayor in Salisbury history. If you’ll notice I did not and will not refer to him as the mayor of Salisbury. I disagree with everything Jim stands for and has attempted to accomplish to date. Yesterday Jim acted in typical homosexual behavior trying to man up and show a set of balls that he lacks as if it wasn’t obvious. Jim lacks the ability to make key decisions unless backed into a corner where he tries making a snap decision often the wrong decision noted many times over. I like many others look at him as a ball less coward who can’t admit he’s in over his head allowing the city to suffer . Maybe one day real men, real women with dignity, common sense, and pride will step up to service in public office. For now at least there are two ladies with these traits representing us in office since the other three are complete failures like Ireton.

Nice, Bill Bates of Salisbury, you bigot. I disagree with everything you stand for, and you act like a typical jerk who doesn't have the guts to run for office. So now your name is out there--let's see you run for office, you tough guy!

Anonymous said...

I agree, let's see Bill Bates (if that is his real name) step up and run for office, since he is such an upstanding individual! Otherwise, he is just another whiny coward who would whither under the scrutiny of political office. He is a dinosaur.

I also saw that news clip and was amazed at the arrogance of the mayor. The expressions on his face
said it all! He needs to remember that he can easily be voted out if he continues to act like the big boss! Kinda reminded me of our President-thinks the world revolves around him! Remember you work for us.

Your mayor is a complete clown. And your "acting" police chief clearly has no people skills. Instead fo just standing there staring like a deer in headlights, he could have easily said something like I'm not at liberty to speak about this at this time, or we are currently investigating this and will be happy to share any details when the time is right. He came off as a real bafoon. But i guess he's just taking his ques from his bos "mayor" Iretom. This guy is a self involved blow hard with no real plan or spine.

I also saw the news on wboc this morning and thought both the mayor and chief of police were extremely arrogant. The people on this city who pay their wages as well as the county need to know they are doing their job and are on top of this situation! It did not show them in a positive light! Chief of police looked like he was at a loss of what to say or do! I say let the the Sheriffs office and State Police take of the job. It's time to clean house!

The past mayor and Ireton are alike - they both like the same THINGS. The entire City Government and a lot of the County Government is a JOKE.

Bill Bates I agree with you 100% and you are no bigot. In this country you still have a freedom of speech and thank you for exercising your God given right.

4:18 PM and 4:44 PM are the cowards with no guts.

Very true and backed by the fact that they didn't even post their names. Yet they are going to call someone a coward that did post their name to the post.

I agree that the Mayor acted in a very arrogant manner.

I would like to point out though, that we do not know how WBOC edited the interview with Chief Barkley. I think he probably told the "reporter" that he couldn't speak on the issue and the reporter still persisted...showing us the "report" that we saw last night and this morning. I think Chief Barkley is doing a great job bringing the SPD back together. He can't change our community in a few short months in office. He can't be held responsible for the problems that have been growing for years now. He is making progress.

I was really disappointed in the reporting style of WBOC.

Irony alert for 7:39 and 7:55! And if you think Bill Bates is using his real name, you are nuts. And if he is, please run for office. You too, 7:39 and 7:55. You all sit here and rip on politicians all the time, well run for office yourself! Apparently, you are the smartest, most moral, best people in all of Salisbury! We are waiting to vote for perfect people like you.

There is no way on gods green earth I would get involved in the crooked good ole boy politics in Salisbury. This once good city contains many prominent business men and women who choose not to be involved with the dirty political issues around them. That being said is why those such as Shanie Shields, Louis Smith, and Gary Comegy’s ended up in office. Take a look at how president Obama ended up in office, because better candidates chose not to run giving an opportunity for someone of lesser quality. The same thing is apparent here in Salisbury; the better more elite persons are fed up and chose not to run for office. Face it Salisbury needs a professional business person in a full time position of mayor to run our city not some part-time school teacher who can’t make a decision. Jims poor management of our police and fire departments the very backbone of life safety and first line of defense for our citizens still to this day have no leaders because Jim is not a leader. If my time line is correct I believe our fire department is going 18 months or so without a fire chief with our police department on their heals rapidly approaching 1 year. And to make things more pathetic isn’t the search for a fire chief entering its 3rd attempt to find a suitable chief? Mr. Ireton you should be ashamed of yourself for putting our city in a position such as this.

You're joking, right?

Anonymous said...

Bill Bates you are somewhat correct. Salisbury Fire Department has been without an appointed fire chief for 15 months, however it has been without a real fire chief for years. And yes the pathetic search by Ireton is going on a 3rd attempt, there was a "suitable" chief interviewed, but back door politics prevented him from getting the majority vote of the council. You can blame part of that issue on Shainie Shields and Louise Smith.

Anonymous said...

Bill,
YOU try being mayor with a screwed up City Council. If you bothered to read the city charter, you would know that the mayor has very little actual power--almost none. But you are so blinded by hatred and bigotry that you don't care to figure out where to really place blame. And it is a total cop out to say you won't run for office because politicians are corrupt. If YOU are not corrupt, then you should run for office and change it. But that would involve actual hard work and exposing yourself to mean comments by guys like you on a blog, so you won't do it. So much easier to sit back and rip on people who, whether you like them or not, actually sacrifice a heck of a lot to get involved in local politics.

This person is either stupid or stupid. The Mayor is the chief executive of the city. Department chiefs don't get to do press releases without his say so. it's really not that hard to understand.

Ireton doesn't need to be reelected as mayor - or allowed to continue to teach. His arrogance is a disgrace. He has a Napolean complex.
