Women In 40's Not Worth Cost Of Mammograms

The Government Task Force mandates that no woman in her 40's should have a mammogram or self-examinations. This group claims too many false alarms and unneeded biopsies without improving survival odds. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force that influences coverage of screening tests by Medicare and many insurance companies now suggests mammograms every two years for women in their 50's. After twenty years of encouraging annual mammograms for all women, this about-face is counter to all recommendations from the American Cancer Society. Why? Why deny mammograms for women in their 40's? Money, Money, Money. This is rationing under Obamacare and only the beginning.

A few things to consider:

1) there is no "mandate." This is merely a recommendation.

2) This isn't "Obamacare." All the task force's members were appointed by Bush.

3) This recommendation is in line with the latest science on the matter. The medical consensus has been heading this way for a while. Widespread mammograms for women in their 40's doesn't really lead to more lives being saved, it has some negative consequences, and it costs a lot of money. It's a win-win-win situation if these early mammograms aren't as common.

4) Not all medical care is necessary medical care. We have a lot of medical care in this country that produces no effect or negative effects. If we truly want to contain medical spending, we need to stop wasting money on procedures that produce no beneficial effect.

I'm certainly no apologist for Obamacare, but conservatives shouldn't make a political issue out of this medical recommendation. Doing so is putting politics ahead of science and fiscal responsibility.

It doesn't mention that yesterday the HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebillous (sp) said to ignore this advice and to continue doing what has been recommended all along - start when you are 40.

Obama is the reason Wal-Mart is now going to sell coffins. I think Marc should put in his order.

9:07 if you think this isn't just a sign of things to come with Obamacare and how the government will handle preventive medicine, you are naive. If I had not had a mammogram 5 years ago, which showed early malignancy, I would be dead today or at least breastless!!

Hey Marc,

Listen, if you are going to be picking up a coffin, get me one.

Also, is Obama going to be doing a cash for clunkers program for wives?

mega LOL

I am angry that some nameless faceless taskforce/advisory panel is making decisions that will affect MY life.

You are absolute wrong. The insurance companies and the government write their policy on these recommendations.
Nice try liberal!

Not mention the rationing of the H1N1 shots.

Remember N.Y. bankers received the vaccine ahead of many hospitals.

Wonder how that happened?
Rationing, Obamacare

However, one decent bank returned their share of vaccine aftrer learning some hospitals never received their H1N1 vaccines.
