How ridiculous is that?
I can tell you this much, at the intersection of RT13 and DP&L, all one has to do is crack their window and sniff and one will quickly realize how bad the situation is. NO EXAGERATING!
It has been this way now for the past few years. If I were Burger King I would shut down. The stench is terrible.
The smell at the corner of RT 13 and Naylor Mill Road is horrendous.
I knew something was wrong.
Barrie has known about this mess for years and done nothing, an even let them annex more land up there without charging the owners one cent to enlarge the lift station, and in some cases actually approved "developer reimbursement".
This situation is as ridiculous as the "TIF" subsidy she gave to the owner of the old mall.
And Bubba Comegys voted for all those but tells us that "growth pays for growth".
Barrie's inept administration of this City must end. How many more examples must there be of how she has destroyed the City we love. It has been cleary demonstrated over and over again that she is incapable of thinking out logical consequences--she makes annexations her goal but does not think the next step as to impacts, etc. Her self-promotion reign as Mayor must be replaced by a very focused and 'big picture' leader. She simply is not capable of doing that.
The sad part is the developers that are on the list were kept in the dark about the upgrades until after they committed their money to the land and projects. I would hate to pay the land taxes until this is resolved.
Doesn't Federal Law prevent further construction when they can't be supplied water and sewer?
Yes it is mandated that they must have capacity to serve but it would have been nice to know if they could before they started spending money on land and design. These projects had to go through the comprehensive approval before the Planning Commission and nothing was ever said.

WRONG.
Those developers were aware (they have noses, too) and were told by the city engineer's office, but were counting on Barrie to pay the cost with taxpayer's funds. And she would have, but now she's flat out of Schlitz! The shame is that annexation and zoning approvals were done without requiring that the owners contribute funds to expand the lift station. Do you recall those "power-points" about how the development would pay for itself and the Comegys' mantra about "growth pays for growth'?
The issue was not addressed at the comprehensive stage which is where most developers make up their mind to move forward with the project and financially commit to it. Some of these developers aren't local and can attend every meeting and power point presentation without getting a direct invite. It sounds like Salisbury Public Works no longer is blocking your blog Joe.

I told the council several months ago that all this annexation will fill up the new capacity of the sewer treatment plant and they will have to enlarge it again. this annexation concept is a bunch of crap. If they want to make the city have a bigger population then they sould build up instead of out. it is less costly in terms of maintainence.

They have controlled where the growth is by zoning and promoting it to be within the Metrocore (inside the by-pass area). The city has height restrictions on structures in most areas. Remember if we fee everyone to death they will go away like the proposed micro-brewery at the old train station. We could always use the money slotted for the "Bricks" project and have it serve a lot more area and proposed residences.
