BREAKING NEWS: FELDMAN'S HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN!

Code & Compliance just now left the Feldman's Antique Center and CONDEMNED the building for all sorts of violations. Mainly, water leaking all over the building and mold everywhere. There are some previous structural concerns from the past that weren't properly addressed so they shut them down.

We did some repair work for them over a year ago, and they never paid the bill!

No surprise to me this happened.

The place is a fire trap. I stopped going in there because I didnt feel safe.

This is kind of what troubles me...many here search daily under their bed for faceless demons and boogiemen "coming someday to take their rights/property away." Look at the very heart of your city these days-The boogie(wo)men have recognizable faces and already "got you."

how is this breaking news? i mean, who REALLY cares about this?

Good job Code and Compliance. Weren't they shut down sometime last year and reopened soon after that because David Miller is a FOB???

Nothing is going to happen. They will be able to open in 2 weeks after everything dies down. Don't you remember the Bubba and Barrie yard signs on that property during the election. Political Corruption at its best.

What a shame, when Mr. Miller was alive, he ran a very respectable business and always went out of his way to help his customers. He must be turning over in his grave seeing what has happened to his once proud business and now his building. Oh well, another one bites the dust, and guess what? ITS DOWNTOWN! Hum, maybe another revitalization project for the city, I think they might have enough "BRICKS" to qualify for a subsidy.

Someone with money needs to tear it down and make a micro brewery/pub. This, I think would be the catalyst downtown needs. Or.... just let it sit like the old Movies 6. One or the other.

Oh no way, we need more condos downtown ROFLMFAO

4;24. In Annapolis this site would be a local thriving, taxpaying entity(i.e. Federal House/Griffins and such)offering not just a laid back, unique atmosphere (most likely large enough to accomodate billiard/crab devouring tables and such), but a couple dozen very much needed jobs.

Look no further than the Millers' once beautiful home on Woodland Rd. It has had an ugly blue tarp covering part of the roof for a year. Our business has done work there too and never been paid. Beware.

Anon 4:24-brewery going to Delmar. It is about time they closed this toilet. Fire trap is right. But as others have said it will reopen when the hubub dies down.

I may be wrong about this but doesn't this same family own Barnes and Noble?

I am a dealer at Feldman's Market St. Antiques. I was in there today a little before you wrote your post. I haven't received any information that this is true. I see the signature at the bottom of the green sheet. Susan Phillips' mission seems to be to write as many code violations as she can. Our neighborhood had problems with her as couple of years ago. She was later transferred to another division, thank goodness, but I see she's still doing her mischief.

While they are castigating the owner, I hope that your readers will think about the many small-business owners who make up Market St. Antiques. Many of us have been there since it opened 11 years ago. We take pride in what we offer to our customers. We have made many friends over all of these years.

To answer 7:38, the family does not own Barnes and Noble. Mrs. Miller is an employee there and does a terrific job. She and Mr. Miller are lovely people. Why would anyone take delight in another's misfortune?

The building is very bad shape and has been for several years. The roof & floors are rotten from water damage.

reese bobby you have know clue about life safety issues do you. Guess what, when you are in that place lost amongst all the junk and that fire trap catches on fire there won't be any firefighters going in to rescue your ass. Only a fool would send there men into that death trap to execute a rescue. They don't trade lives. That place is a known building the fire department has made it very clear they will only mitigate an exterior attack. Sorry for your luck.

I went in there a couple years ago, and by the time I left, my eyes were bloodshot and burning. It smelled of mold, then.
I am sorry for the Millers misfortune, but that place is toxic.

You are wrong about Susan Phillips and you have no clue what you are talking about. She was never transferred to a different division as you state. Building Housing and Zoning separated into Building Permits and Inspections as well as Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance. NSCC was the brainchild of Lynn Cathcart and the previous council.

Mrs. Phillips does an excellent job and you are just bitter because your neighborhood is a slum and your so called antique business is a death trap. If you and your criminal friends were so proud of Feldmans then you would have made David Miller renovate that hell hole into a building that was safe for customers and tennants.

Say What!!!!

I must assume that this comment is personal and the author knows exactly who they are talking to!!

9:15. Hey stunad....how did you take my comment about how a functional town, with a functional local government, wouldn't have let the building rot to start with, and turn it into me not knowing what safe conditions are? I know more about safety, due diligence, protective ordnances and exposure to subsequent liability when I am unconscious than you will ever hope to learn in your life. I'm not a part of your little "Firefighter Wars" soap opera here so keep YOUR bias off my feedback while I offer suggestions to better the city you don't seem to want to fight hard enough for (before it rots into a mold spore due to neglect and indifference).

7:39, I do apoligize for the one error I made re. Ms. Phillips. You are correct: the former Building and Housing was split into two divisions, and she was not transferred. However, I stand by everything else I said.
You aver that I live in a 'slum neighborhood." And just how would you know where I live? For your information, I reside in the "better part" of the Camden area. I am not a "criminal," nor do I have criminal friends, whatever that means. As for my 'so-called antique business," I have been a dealer for many years. I do not sell junk. While it is a part-time business for me and I do not need it to survive, it has been an enjoyable avocation. Feldman's has so many repeat customers who comment on how much they enjoy shopping with us. I would suggest thinking before writing so that you know the facts.

You can't fault the girl for doing her job. As a tax paying citizen, I am glad to FINALLY see a city employee working hard.

Anon 7:39,

Who in the world are you talking about? Do you know the dealer personally? If I am not mistaken, there are several dealers there and unless someone told you they were anonymously posting, how do you know who it is?

I have shopped at that store and have found several collectibles I now treasure. If you consider it "junk", then I daresay you are ignorant about the finer things in life. Texas Roadhouse is probably your idea of "fine dining".

Further, while I realize that many here may carry a grudge against the owner for some reason or another, there are other people involved that should be considered. Of course, many of the people who visit here seem to care only of themselves anyway, so it is par for the course

reese barbie, who said I was a firefighter? Why don't you go back to smoking Obama's pole, goog ball.

David Miller has sucked all of the money that he can out of that "Hell Hole" building. He will not spend one dollar that he is not forced to spend. It is a very poor business person that takes every dollar out and doesn't invest any back into the business, but then again David Miller is that type of person.

Molds no joke....stacchybotrus(sp?) can kill you if inhaled.

Because of the serious issues with mold in that building I would suggest someone contact the County Health Department. As far as the fire code violations I would strongly encourage someone to file a complaint with the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Although it is a "local" issue the State Fire Marshal will step in when the locals aren't enforcing the code. The County Health Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal are Agency's of the State of Maryland and Barrie and her minions have no control over them. Once they investigate Barrie Tilghman can't interfer and let her FOB's open up again.

Please go to these sites for your contact information.

OK first off 3:12 you should not be telling people that the Miller's owe you money that is a little personal for this blog. Second, granted dealers in that building may not sell junk and in that respect they are a fine business but the building is a hell hole and a danger to anyone who steps foot in or near it. I walked by it last night for the first time in awhile and i didnt even feel safe standing next to it. It is unfortunate that a once pristine place of business is now in such decay. Third i work for a small business therefore i sympathize for the Miller's and for any other small business owner who has had this kind of thing happen but you have to stick to the city's codes. It may be finacally tough but thats one of the responsibilities that come with owning a business. Its a shame to see this happen to a local business but when you play with fire you will get burnt. Fourth the city is doing their jobs, deal with it now if we could get salisbury police off of their a$! we would be doing something. Fith this goes to anonymous at 4:15 we should care because downtown Salisbury doesnt have much to offer anymore mainly because mainstream America is to lazy to park down the street, go into more than one building to get more than one thing, pay a parking meter, to take the time to appreciate the history and beauty that downtown Salisbury has to offer, so on and so on. People need to appreciate thet small local businesses are that small and local they live in the same area that you do pay the same taxes and sometimes live on the same street, they are being sucked up by large corperate businesses and everyone turns the other cheek until they are gone.

3:07. You ARE probably right-if you are so pink in your underwear that you would only stay "in the rear with the gear" and fight an exterior fire.....you probably aren't a firefighter. Uneducated, redneck coward seems a little better description after all, doesn't it? Although the mayor and council are the ones who "got you"-people who think like YOUR dumbass are the reason why they did it so easily.

It was just a matter of time, I loved to visit market street antiques, but am allergic to mold and the building stunk so bad. It's a shame that it's been condemed, but the buildings problems definatley need to be addressed for the safety of everyone.
