Nationwide Truckers Strike?

I just heard something about a nationwide truckers strike to begin at 8:00 a.m. on 4/3/08. This strike is to be held in order to get the attention of the federal and state govts. and to get them to suspend federal and state fuel taxes. I checked out this site

http://www.americanfuelconsumersmovement.com/.

Has anyone else heard about this? As I looked into it, I saw that it got a lot of media coverage down south but I haven't heard anything about it here.

If this is true..we'd better get our groceries in a hurry!

If anything that is all you will do is hear about it here. These guys won't shut down. I've seen to many times when a strike would have gotten peoples attention and the local haulers just kept right on hauling. They didn't go to DC the last time there was a call to action, don't count on them doing anything now.

You might get 1 or 2 but don't count on many more than that. Forget the local dump truckers, they won't stick together long enough to get a rate increase let alone protest fuel prices.

Yes, I saw them interview some truckers, bur don't recall where. They said yes, they would strike. IMO somebody needs to do something about the gas price, so I say, they need to take a stand. The truckers are the only ones the government will listen to. We will just have to plant bigger gardens this summer. I can live without bread and I hate milk. My well is perfect as I live outside the city!!!

I checked snopes.com, and it said there that IF it happened, it would only be for a day. I wouldn't be doing a Y2K over it.

If these truckers would park on the NJ Turnpike and refuse to deliver to NYC it would shut the east coast down. I've heard plenty of talk while out on the road but that is all it is, talk. To many have truck payments to make, insurance payments to make and they just won't do it. I've seen them haul for $1 a mile just to "keep the wheels turning". Well newsflash, at a buck a mile you are paying to haul their freight. Brokers are the worse. Most of them have never been in anything bigger than a pickup and want to tell you how long it takes to get from A to B and then want you to do it in less time for diddly squat.

If ever there was a profession that continues to get screwed, its the truckers. All they get for their days away from home is headaches and bills. Gotta keep the wheels turning. BS

I hope they shut down. If all the independents took a couple days off Schneider, Swift and JB Hunt couldn't pick up the slack. As far as anyone in DC paying attention...BULL. The last time we circled the capital the only one that came out to acknowledge the problem was the Congressman from Colorado, Ben Nighthorse. He was a trucker, he knows the plight of the independents sadly he is only one voice on all of crooked capitol hill.

So...somebody needs to do something about gas prices...hmm, what to do... how about we continue to overproduce cars and trucks and market them as must have toys to every young man...or we could develop corn based alternative fuels that cost more to produce than the fuels they replace...maybe we could nationalize the evil oil giants, after all, free markets are for my business profits, not theirs...wait, I know, we can invade one of those oil rich countries using some cooked up national security explanation,we know how well that always turns out.

Operation America Strikes Back
Strike is April, 1st through the 3rd or as long as all can hold out. The 1st of every month until the end of the year are strike days also.
They want all Americans to strike and call in sick or have a car problem or any excuse and stay home except emergency and health care workers. Diesel has hit $4.00 a gallon And we cannot let this to continue. Diesel is cheaper to manufacture than gasoline and this has to stop now. If no one works tax dollars are not generated and gas is not used. Then maybe the Government will take notice. The Canadian Truckers are striking also. It is time to take a stand America.
God bless America ! Now Americans are standing together.

Encouraging truckers to strike is all well and good, but many independent truckers are not in the position to lose 1-3 days of income.

My trucks will be running. If they don't run, the payments and insurance are not paid, then I won't have to worry about the trucks at all - I won't haver them to worry about.

Sorry - "have them".

I cannot stand it when people don't spell check before they post, then I do it myself!

If you really want to get somebodies attention about high fuel prices, the truckers have to do what they did in the 70's, and bring the big rigs to Washington D.C. and tie the place up for awhile! Thanks Jim in MN
