Recently the Going Nuts Cafe claimed it will lose some $8,000.00 based on the Christmas Day Parade. Let's get one thing perfectly clear here. I was in that business for years and let me assure each and every one of you, based on an $8,000.00 figure, they're FULL OF CRAP!
I've also eaten there twice and let me assure you, it ain't all that. As a matter of fact, I thought it sucked. Let me add, (think about this one) when is the LAST time you got together with friends to go out to dinner and they said, let's go to Going Nuts Cafe? NEVER! NOTTA! If the place was any good you'd hear a whole lot more of that going on and it has never happened to me and I go out to eat a lot!
To add to their already bad reputation for crappy food and a strip center atmosphere, ARE THEY PAYING TAXES EVERY DAY ON AT LEAST $16,000.00+ WORTH OF SALES?
Then there's the 50+ employees. I also find that to be a boat load of crap as well. Before you get yourselves in even more trouble, (especially with the IRS) I'd shut your fat traps and support the Parade. Merry Christmas!

They must not need any more business. The Jaycees supposedly offered told hold a large meeting there to offset the loss and were turned down!!! What idiot would turn down good business? I have been there several times and was far from impressed. The only reason I returned was it was a dinner I was treated to. I will NEVER go back after the whining they have done.
Going Nuts has terrible food. It's about the worst restaurant food available in Salisbury.
I went there twice and on the last visit the pasta alfredo was so bad my very hungry, not picky, 17 year old reused to eat it after trying a few bites.
It's a terrible place to eat. The only thing that keeps it going is the bar, and the fact they serve very stiff drinks.

My wife worked there for about two months, four years ago. If they're making $8,000.00 a day, then why did she leave cause of only averaging around $20.00 a night in tips, maybe because on a "busy" friday or saturday night she'd be lucky to seat 8 tables. They only worked 3 waitresses a night and they all held about the same load. So 24 customers turn $8,000.00, thats $333.33 a table. Not to mention they allowed them one free entree per shift and 99% would spend what little money they made at Pizza hut or Burgerking.

Well i can assure you the two hours that no one can access Goin Nuts, will not take break off of Russ dinner plate. I also wonder, since Russ talked about employees losing income, does Russ pay them more then the average $2 to $3 per hours, does he provide any health coverage, does he provide any paid vaka or sick time. In his 1st article he talked about his staff losing money. I believe he does not fork out any extra for his staff. On another note, Goin Nuts has shown their true color, and where their priorities are, the almighty dollar over a family / holiday event. How sad on Goin Nuts part.

If they have 50 employees working paycheck to paycheck and are the kind of money that they claim, they are probably the stingiest bastards in this town. How about coming off a few of those dollars to help the people who are generating all of that income for the business?
Normally, I wouldn't think that anybody could be so greedy. But to try and rain on the Christmas parade is pathetic in itself.
Seems that the owners of Going Nuts have really given themselves a black eye by trying to be bigger than the spirit of Christmas.
At $20 a head they would have to serve 400 full course meals to rake in that kind of money, $8000 or more. Law states that unless you have a bar license (They have a restaurant license) your food sales must exceed your liquor sales or you must change the status of your license and pay more for it.
On a Sunday I just don't see it happening. Russ (Humbug), the Grinch that tried to steal Christmas from the kids, he should have taken the incentive money and had an employee party for his overworked underpaid staff, divided the loot amoung his staff.
He was once a Hanna minion, they taught him well, cheat them right~!!
With all the publicity this quagmire has stirred up, I wouldn't doubt 'Nuts loses some business in the long run and they'd wished they were closed one day.
I dunno, I'd put up a big sign out front that says "Joe Albero won't eat here!" and watch business triple.
I like most of the food there. It is a decent and more important local restaurant, not a chain. However, I do agree they are being very petty in complaining abot the parade. Especially with all the things they have been offered to help make up their business.
I think some here are bashing their food just because they are complaining about the parade. Thats not right. Just bash them for being petty and stupid. Their food is ok.

I have eaten there several times and would rather have a meal from the box chain anyday. My whole family has never been impressed with the food. And personally the prices are to expensive for me. Any business that does not support the community to which it is in my question to them then is, Why should I support you?
The food is OK, nothing more. This whining over the parade has backfired on the owner and will hurt him more than the parade ever could. There is something more to this than is obvious on the surface, I don't know what, but the owner has made a major blunder with this tirade.
also, the morning of the parade the Jaycee's have past presidents brunch. They thought a good jesture was to hold it at Goin Nuts. They were told we don't want your event....

Where in Salisbury are you going to have a parade and have it only affect one business? Seems like the logical place to have it to me.
They were offered some restitution and refused. So let them eat cake. Why don't they just pay their employees and let them bring their kids to watch the parade and have a meal for the staff and their kids after the parade.
If I'm not mistaken they are even open on Christmas Day! Greedy scrooge. Robinson would be too cheap to eat there, however sice he eats all his meals out, he'd have to fork over the dough on Christmas Day and make up for it by stiffing the server on the tip.
A 6oz catfish filet with rice and a vegetable is the cheapest entree on their menu at $16.95, little pricey for what you get, unless you are a local bar fly.

well, i myself worked there for a short period of time. lets just cut to the chase of, yes, it is thee worst restaurant in salisbury. adding that i haven't even been to every restaurant in salisbury.
the food is terrible, the "managers" are horrible people, and i would not eat there even being invited...the co-owner shirley is a madwoman and there have been certain specualations as to why she's a madwoman. the gm russ is gigantic and the very small isle where servers and busser alike have to travel is where he himself travels and pratically stomps on everyone when getting in his way. if it wuzn't do to the bar and the regulars that eat there about everyday the place would have closed down years ago....and should now.
I also worked for Russ and Shirley Horne at Goin Nuts Cafe. I was employed there for years before I finally had enough and quit. I worked almost all positions from busing to managing. As for Shirley Horne, she's an anal retentive control freak. She runs around the resturant (when she and Russ arent away on their MANY binge drinking trips) like a chicken with its head cut off snapping crazy orders at everyone. Russ Horne would start his days off at 8am sitting in the bar sipping on his Sauza tequila reading over his inventory. Then he would eventually work his way into the kitchen to 'help' cook. He always ended up reaking havoc on the kitchen in a drunkin tiff. Bob Regals is their GM. He's a fat sexist pig who loves to intimidate his employees! The poor servers dont make enough money to buy a drink at the bar they work in, while Russ, Shirley and Bob eat, drink, and travel first class off the backs of hard working underpaid employees. The management and owners are all drunks who have no business running a resturant. As far as Russ's claim to the $8,000.00 loss- he's full of crap! They are lucky to bring in that much in two days let alone in an hour or two.
I decided to throw a bridal shower for my grand daughter at Goin Nuts Cafe. The food was horrible. The servers obviously hated thier jobs (very rude) and the very large manager stood over the dining room stairing at us as if we were going to steal something. I am a 76 year old woman on a fixed budget so I arranged a select menu. When I got my bill the prices werent the same anymore. I ended up going $200 over my budget. I will never go back and I try to convince anyone who is considering taking thier business there NOT TO !!!
