U.S. Shooting Team Roasts Piers Morgan Over Olympic Shooting Competition Tweet

 

After the United States won their first gold medal in the 2016 Olympics in Rio for a shooting event, Piers Morgan took to Twitter and trolled the U.S. shooting team for winning the event, only to have the team fire back at him.

On Saturday, 19 year-old Ginny Thrasher won the United States’ first gold medal of the Rio Olympics by winning the 10 meter air rifle competition. She beat out some of the heavily favored shooters in the competition from China, including the defending Olympic champion in the event.

Piers Morgan trolled on Twitter saying that it was the “least surprising breaking news ever” that an American athlete won the first gold medal in a shooting competition.

Katie Ledecky was celebrating her world record before anyone else finished the race

Katie Ledecky, the 19-year-old American swimming prodigy, made a statement Sunday night in her first individual race at the Rio Olympics, winning gold and breaking her own world record in the 400-meter freestyle.

Ledecky broke the record by two seconds and beat the second-place finisher by nearly five seconds.

Plenty of photos show how dominant Ledecky's race was, whether it was her swimming in entirely open water or her leading comfortably ahead of the world-record mark.

But the most illustrative example of her victory may have come at the end, when she was celebrating her world record and gold medal while other swimmers finished.

Soros-Fueled PAC Paying Salaries to Employees at Pro-Illegal Immigrant Group

A political action committee largely funded by liberal billionaire George Soros is paying salaries to employees at a pro-illegal immigrant group.

The Immigrant Voters Win PAC was launched in March with the goal of registering 400,000 new Hispanic voters before the November elections. The PAC is a joint effort between numerous left-wing immigration activist groups as part of the larger “Families Fight Back” campaign organized in opposition to Republican politicians.

The group has raised $4 million since its inception, according to the PAC’s financial filings with the Federal Election Commission.

China Company Test Giant Bus That Drives over Cars

China unveiled the TEB-1, or Transit Elevated Bus. The giant "flying" bus, as some have called it, straddles two lanes of traffic and stands nearly 16 feet tall so that it can pass over cars on the roadway below.

Every urban commuter laments the twice-a-day headache of traffic congestion and the often disappointing alternatives that mass transit offers.

A Chinese company has officially rolled out one potential solution: the TEB-1, or Transit Elevated Bus. The giant "flying" bus, as some have called it, straddles two lanes of traffic and stands nearly 16 feet tall so that it can pass over cars on the roadway below. While still a long way from mass production, the TEB-1 could one day alleviate major traffic woes in China and other countries with crowded metropolitan areas.

The concept of an elevated bus was first floated in 2010, and a model was debuted in May of this year, the New York Times reported. The company behind the project, TEB Technology, conducted a road test and opened its doors to prospective passengers in the Chinese city of Qinhuangdao on Tuesday, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

Deceased Body Located Just Offshore in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, MD – (August 9, 2016): Ocean City police are currently investigating the death of an unidentified male after lifeguards located a body in the ocean off 127th Street.

On Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at approximately 4:20 pm Ocean City Beach Patrol lifeguards located a deceased male in the ocean near 127th Street after a citizen reported seeing an object floating offshore. The body showed signs of being in the water for an extended period of time.

Detectives of the Ocean City Police Department Criminal Investigation Division Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and an active investigation is underway to determine the identity of the male and the circumstances surrounding his death. The body will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be conducted in the coming days. There are currently no known missing persons reported in the area.

Anyone that may have been in the area in the last 36 to 48 hours and believes they have information related to the case is asked to contact the Ocean City Police Department at 410-723-6610. Callers may remain anonymous.

EASTERN SHORE BUSINESS KEEPS MARITIME TRADITION ALIVE

Located on the Eastern Shore is the small quaint town of Oxford, where local family business Cutts & Case Shipyard recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The family-owned business specializes in yacht building, repair, restoration and brokerage services. They are known for constructing custom wooden boats and their unique “Cutts” method, an innovative composite and fiberglass material construction that produces lighter and stronger boats than those with traditional wooden hulls.

Cutts & Case once restored a boat previously owned by photographer Morris Rosenfeld in the 1920’s. Rosenfeld was famous for his photographs that recorded the sport of yachting and he charmingly named his own boat “Foto.”

“The boat was actually found in a swamp around 10 years ago. Now, Foto sits in pristine condition at the shipyard,” said Office Manager Mike Moore. “Ed Cutts Sr. fully restored the boat for his own use.”

Many customers of Cutts & Case keep their boats at the shipyard year-round. While most clients are from Maryland and the surrounding areas, some travel as far as California to enjoy a Maryland summer on the water.

State overrides voters: NJ orders town to spend $33 million on school upgrades for immigrants

FREEHOLD, N.J. – Voters in New Jersey’s Freehold Borough twice rejected referendums to pay for $33 million in construction and other updates to accommodate the area’s growing student population.

Now state bureaucrats are over-riding their decisions.

In both September and December, Freehold residents voted down the measure aimed at expanding the “severely overcrowded” Park Avenue Elementary, Middle School, and Learning Center with 22 new classrooms, RT.com reports.

The proposal also would have funded a new gym and library at Park Avenue Elementary, as well as a cafeteria at the learning center.

IRS officials across the chain of command knew for years that it was “extraordinarily inappropriate and dangerous” to send Tea Party tax exemption applications into a “black hole,” FBI interviews recently released by Judicial watch show.

IRS officials “suggested there was nothing unusual going on … but they stopped granting the tax exempt status to most conservative outlets,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“There’s a powerful case,” he continued. “There were false statements made under oath.”

Prince George’s Co. Hospital closes NICU after 3 test positive for bacterium Pseudomonas

WASHINGTON — Prince George’s County Hospital Center has closed its neonatal intensive care unit and is relocating its patients after three in the unit tested positive for bacterium Pseudomonas.

The hospital said three neonatal patients tested positive for the the presence of the bacteria, which can cause severe illness and death, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While the patients tested positive, all are clinically asymptomatic for any active infection with the bacterium, the hospital said.

The bacteria was found in a pipe, a hospital spokesperson told WTOP. Also, the NICU is the only unit where patients have tested positive for the bacteria, the hospital said in a statement.

WASHINGTON — For one set of Maryland twins, the simple act of finding a bathroom when out shopping or running errands is fraught with challenges. Teenagers Julian and Darrow are transgender boys; they were born female, but never felt at home in their own bodies and now identify as male.

Asked what he does when he needs to use a public restroom, Julian laughs wryly and says, “I hold it until I get home.” Or he looks for a unisex bathroom. But every time he’s out in public, he has to make that calculation.

His anxiety is based in the controversy that’s raged across the country over the rights of transgender people, and incidents of violence directed against them. The dangers transgender people can face were spotlighted in 2011, when a transgender woman was attacked and beaten after using the ladies’ room at a McDonald’s in Maryland. An employee videotaped the beating and posted it online; the attack only ended when the woman suffered a seizure.

Twin brothers Mason and Connor Zack of Elkton found that out as they celebrated their sixth birthday on Sunday night, a tipster told WJZ.

The twins decided to use the T-Rex costumes they got for their birthday to greet passersby, but took off when a sheriff’s deputy pulled up.

Video uploaded to Facebook, which has been shared hundreds of times, shows the two mini dinosaurs leading the deputy on a low-speed chase down the street.

Said our tipster, “It really made them happy that the deputy played along with them.”

Baltimore City Council Gives Preliminary Approval To Minimum Wage Hike

A bill that seeks to raise Baltimore's minimum wage to $15 passed another hurdle in the City Council Monday.

Lawmakers voted 7-4 (with three abstaining and one absent) to let the bill, spearheaded by Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke, move forward.

Councilwoman Helen Holton said this isn't the time to raise the minimum wage and that Baltimore should not lead the state, while Councilman Warren Branch worried the move would hurt his district.

U.S. Trade Deficit Jumps 8.7 Percent to 10-Month High

MarketWatch reports that the U.S. trade deficit “jumped 8.7% in June to a 10-month high of $44.5 billion, reflecting the higher cost of oil and more imports of consumer goods such as cellphones and drugs.”

The deficit increased because imports rose by $227.7 billion, while exports were up only $183.2 billion, with particularly sluggish oil and new-car exports. The trade gap with China hit its highest mark since last November, thanks to heavy imports of “Chinese-made computers, cell phones, and clothing,” per ABC News. On the other hand, U.S. exports to the European Union and United Kingdom were up.

Reuters notes June was the third straight month to see an increase in the trade deficit. Economists predicted a much smaller deficit of $43.1 billion by the end of June, compared to the inflation-adjusted $64.7 billion that was realized.
