Cracker Barrel On The Fence In Salisbury

The proposed Cracker Barrel that was expected to go next to Perdue Stadium may not be coming after all. It turns out the height they're requiring for their sign has allegedly been denied and they're seriously considering dropping out completely.

I'm sure it was so high that they had to place a blinking strobe light at the top to make sure planes going in and out of the Airport wouldn't hit it. That's a joke. It would appear the only new business that seems to be doing well in this economy is Guns, Gangs and Drugs.

Who knows, it could all be nothing but rumors though. I guess everyone will have to continue to go to Rehoboth instead.

Here's What Started Salisbury News 3 Years Ago

Human Feces piled high with no liner underneath steaming in the sun.

Pontoon Boat sits in a human feces sludge pit the size of a football field and 20" deep.

New equipment sits outside the pit for overflow to pump water off the top but drained into the river.

Sandbags line the back of the illegal sludge pit as it was full to the top and regularly overflowed down a hill and directly into the Wicomico River.

Another clear sign of evidence just how high the sludge filled the 20' deep illegal sludge pit.

Three years ago I had been informed that there was numerous illegal activities going on at the Salisbury Waste Water Treatment Plant. I drove to the facility in my pickup truck and pulled inside the facility. I asked for directions to the Main Office and ultimately parked my truck right in front of their front door. I got out and simply started walking the grounds. I had been told there was an illegal sludge pit filled with human waste. I had also been told that there was an area in which the MDE was completely unaware of back in the woods and there was a dirt road heading back there.

It took me a while to find it but to my unbelievable surprise, there it was! The claim was that every time they experienced heavy rainfall, the Plant would overflow. They were allegedly draining their system before a heavy rain and dumping it into this pit. Nevertheless, there was a liner that ultimately only had a guarantee for 30 days, although the City/Mayor claimed it had a guarantee for many years, she was wrong.

I took all these pictures and hundreds more and contacted the MDE. They came to my home and started looking at the photos and they couldn't believe their own eyes. They immediately pulled together a team and had me standing by so I could instruct them just where to go. By the end of the day the MDE was writing one station after the other for all sorts of illegal activity. The Mayor claimed she'd take full responsibility and ultimately the City was fines $25,000.00 for what they had done. It could have been at least $250,000.00 but I worked with the MDE asking them NOT to punish the Taxpayers. It was more important that they forced the City to clean up this mess and make sure it never happened again.

They even had wells they had illegally drilled and were pumping millions of gallons of untreated water into a man made stream that flowed directly into the River as well. I'll never forget just how pissed off the Mayor was about my being there and taking all these pictures. She and John Jacobs came up with a new plan to make sure I wouldn't return. They put blue stickers on every white hard hat and demanded every employee call the Police and have me arrested or anyone else who didn't have a hard hat on with the blue sticker.

When I said I was going back to take more pictures in a plane, the Mayor allegedly contacted the Feds and allegedly tried to create a No Fly Zone over the WWTP. ROTFLMAO, I did it anyway. If I have the time I'll post those photos from above as well.

Ever since I came onto the scene, Mayor Barrie Tilghman and Chief Webster have done everything possible to have me arrested and or my Blog shut down. Who ever said you can't fight City Hall? Are you listening Hebron? Are you listening Somerset County?

3 Years Ago Today

It was three years ago today the MDE came into the Salisbury Zoo and forced Zoo Director Jim Rapp to cap one of the illegal pipes discharging illegally into the Wicomico River.

Two days earlier they instructed the Zoo to close the valve off completely as they were clearly discharging harmful chemicals into the River for years and as soon as they left the Staff reopened the valve and it was captured by Salisbury News and shown to the MDE through e-mail. Once they saw the photo they immediately returned to the Zoo and stood there waiting as Public Works had to come in a cap the pipe to assure they wouldn't pull it again.

Former Zoo Director Jim Rapp and Zoo Commission President Ron Alessi denied any knowledge that these pipes were draining directly into the River but it was under Jim Rapp's time at the Zoo that this exhibit was in fact created and we challenged his telling the truth as well as Ron Alessi. Mayor Tilghman stated she backed Jim Rapp 100%.

SHOULD SALISBURY CONTINUE TO SUBSIDIZE A MARINA?

Even in so-called "good years" the Downtown Marina has been a drain on the City’s coffers – in essence an amenity, partly funded by taxpayers for those who can afford (and desire) to keep a boat there. With the ongoing economic distress it has become an even greater public burden.

Now we are told that this year’s operating deficit will be much greater than budgeted, totaling about $65,000, so it will be necessary to kick in more funds to keep it afloat (no pun intended).

In order to do so, Pammie (a/k/a "piggybank") Oland recommends dipping into the remaining contingency fund for $30,000, leaving a balance of just $20,000 in that fund for the rest of the fiscal year – now does this sound familiar, or what?

DOES “DR” BASEHART REALLY HAVE A Ph.D?

Today’s Daily Times reports on remarks and recommendations by a political science teacher at Salisbury University about voter turnout in Salisbury’s City Elections. He suggests that it is low because of lackluster candidates and/or high voter satisfaction with current City Government. That analysis calls into serious question his academic credentials.

Voter turnout here is a function of significant aspects of the registration laws. First, Maryland’s “motor-voter” registration law results in many persons being placed on the voter rolls who have no intention of voting, but other laws prevent them from being removed for failure to do so. And it is an onerous process to remove persons who have moved away.

Given the City’s large tenant population, a low turnout is not surprising. And another factor is the voter registration drives in national elections like the one last year that put persons on the rolls who are interested only in electing a particular person as President, Congressman, etc.

Prof. Basehart’s opinion about the nature of Candidates is too subjective to evaluate, but his postulate that many or most City residents are satisfied with the current administration, even if he happens to be, is ridiculous. Did he get that doctorate at Matchbook Univ.?

His report presents the typical academic measures to increase voting that are standard fare in Poly Sci, 101 – voting by mail, etc. – and fertile ground for fraud and political shenanigans (can you say “Richard Insley”). If those are such wonderful schemes, how come they haven’t been adopted in most other cities and counties?

Gas Prices

As if the economy wasn't bad enough, along comes much higher gas priced to boot. All these billions of dollars being fronted by the Federal Government to bail out just about anyone and everyone, guess who's going to ultimately pay for it? That's right, you and me, that's who. When was the last time you saw our Government make a profit? The best gas prices in town are $1.84 per gallon right now. Here we go again Folks!

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE ECONOMIC STIMULUS PLAN

Billions of dollars in spending exclusively devoted to benefit federal employees.

1. $5.5 billion for making federal buildings "green" (including $448 million for the Department of Homeland Security's headquarters)

2. $198 million to design and furnish the DHS headquarters

3. $200 million for workplace safety in Department of Agriculture facilities

4. $75 million for the Smithsonian Institution

5. $300 million more for hybrid and electric cars for federal employees

6. $180 million for construction of Bureau of Land Management facilities

7. $500 million for wildland fire management

8. $110 million for construction for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

9. $522 million for construction for the Bureau of Indian Affairs

It seems that most of the people who comment in response to your political posts
seem to believe in protecting our rights to bear arms and support many other
conservative views. I know that there are exceptions - such as Reese Bobby and
Two Sentz, but I think many of us (those neither feeding at the trough or
sympathetic to those who are) are looking for a way to resist the march to
SOCIALISM! I am afraid that our Nation is nearly lost and have been searching
for a way to get involved in an organized effort to put up a fight. I hope that
you will share this link to a Grassroots organization that is set up to bring
people together to resist the following:

1. Socialistic wealth redistribution including any and all tax increases and
big-government welfare programs.
2. Silencing conservatives through the Fairness Doctrine and other efforts that
restrict free speech.
3. Open border anarchy including amnesty for illegal aliens and promotion of
multi-nation "unions".
4. Government-run health care that weakens our system and imposes more tax
burdens on citizens.
5. Weakening of our military through rapid pullback from Iraq, defunding our
troops and overall disarmament.
6. Social liberalism including radical pro-abortion agenda, the end of marriage
and the homosexual agenda.
7. Liberal court activism that undermines faith, family and liberties while
expanding government control.
8. Post-American globalism that diminishes our global role and threatens our
national sovereignty.

MARYLAND LEGISLATURE UPDATE

Just when you think you have just about seen everything in life then along comes another Maryland Legislative Bill that attempts to correct an action that has been going on for decades.

In fact - I had to go back and read it twice. It appears that while a prisoner is being incarcerated and he/she is working for the County and/or another employer -(work release) - and receiving compensation while working on the County dole -(chain gang)- and the County administers the savings account for the prisoner. Then, if the prisoner sustains permanent or partial disability while performing the work for the County and/or employer he is entitled to receive Permanent or Partial Disability funds while the individual is incarcerated. HB-1036 attempts to correct this defect.

There are also several interesting House Bills that continue to seek State grant funding for museums, frat houses, and even the girl scouts despite our State claiming that the treasury is empty.

I could go on-and-on as I look at the list of dozens of these frivolous projects I have accumulated during this current session but I believe one can get a good idea after reading the above links.

And believe it or not, we have some legislators that actually want to increase you Motor Fuel Tax - by another 7 cents per gallon - HB-1214.

Here locally, there are a few good bills that you might want to take a look at. Once in particular SB-302 - sponsored by Rich Colburn would change the triennial assessment period back to one year intervals so as to correct the latency deficiency in tax assessments many residents are currently experiencing as the housing meltdown continues. If you are like me, my house still shows considerable appreciation because my triennial period began at the height of the housing boom - thus penalizing me.

With Ridership Up, Transit Agencies Make Cuts

WASHINGTON (AP) - Judging from packed buses and trains, these would appear to be prosperous times for the nation's transit systems, which have seen record ridership since last summer's high gas prices.

But with the economy deteriorating, the problem is no longer how to handle more riders. Instead, agencies are facing substantial service cuts, fare hikes and layoffs, which could chase passengers away.

Some subway lines in New York, the nation's busiest system, could be eliminated in the coming months. St. Louis is cutting bus service by nearly half. And Washington's transit agency is preparing to slash nearly 900 jobs.

We're certainly honored to have been chosen in the top 10, let alone being #1 every single week of 2009 so far. Think about it though Folks. Look at the breaking news we have delivered so far in 2009. Salisbury has got to look like the biggest group of Good Old Boys anyone could ever imagine. Was Schaefer Right all along?

Our numbers have certainly skyrocketed in the past few months and again, it's no wonder, really. What started out with Mayor Tilghman encouraging others to visit this nasty Blog clearly lead to the biggest, most recognized Politically Influential Blog in the entire State. Let's not forget that Salisbury News was the #1 Blog of the year in the state of Maryland for 2008 too. So Barrie deserves most of the credit. If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. Where else could you get all that front page news coverage for a $9,999.00 lawsuit? Win or lose, clearly Salisbury News has won no matter how you look at it.

So I thank ALL of you for visiting. I'm sad that Salisbury has to be the main topic of all this bad news and in 60 days or so my key source for news and information will be gone. GETTING A hairdryer through customs...

A distinguished young woman on a flight from Ireland asked the Priest beside her,
'Father, may I ask a favor?'
'Of course child. What may I do for you?'

'Well, I bought an expensive woman's electronic hair dryer for my mother's birthday that is unopened and well over the Customs limits, and I'm afraid they'll confiscate it. Is there any way you could carry it through customs for me? Under your robe perhaps?'

'I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you: I will not lie.'

'With your honest face, Father, no one will question you.'

When they got to Customs, she let the priest go ahead of her.

The official asked, 'Father, do you have anything to declare?'

'From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare.'

The official thought this answer strange, so asked,

'And what do you have to declare from your waist to the floor?'

'I have a marvelous instrument designed to be used on a woman, but which is to date, unused.'
