Indecent exposure

Ed Hughes, 29, of Delray Beach, Fla. was arrested on Sept. 12 for disorderly conduct and indecent exposure.

Ocean City police went to a domestic dispute and found Hughes completely unclothed, the report stated. Police said the naked Hughes began yelling profanities and climbed on top of the roof, thereby exposing himself to the public.

Multiple charges

Ocean City police officers arrested Gregory Burley, 20, of Bowie, Md. for breaking into a liquor store, causing substantial damage to the building and fleeing from the scene on Sept. 11.

After arrival at the scene of a suspected burglary uptown, police said they saw Burley inside but that he quickly ran away. A subsequent search for the suspect found Burley in a nearby parking lot.

The lurid revelations about the Clinton Foundation proved that it was not so much a charity as a huge laundering operation. Quid pro quo donations from the global rich and powerful fueled the Clintons’ jet-setting networking.

In between political campaigns, the foundation provided sinecures for out-of-work Clinton politicos. This is hardly proof of Hillary’s grass-roots progressivism.

Then came Clinton’s e-mail fiasco. No one knows how the current investigation of her alleged misuse of e-mail accounts, servers, and classified information will end up. But most people accept that it was an unnecessary and self-induced scandal, brought on both by her paranoia and habitual expectation of being exempt from the law.

ABC News just disclosed that ex-president Bill Clinton sought huge speaking fees from foreign governments (well over a half-million dollars per talk), while Hillary was secretary of state. Unfortunately, some of his proposed speaking deals involved odious regimes like those of Congo and North Korea. This year, Hillary herself routinely charged universities $200,000 to $300,000 for brief talks — after decrying the cash-strapped status of indebted students. What will the Clintons not do to make money?

All these imbroglios raise more issues. Was Senator Barack Obama, largely a political unknown at the time, really all that unstoppable in 2008? Or did Hillary simply blow a 30-point lead in the polls because then as now she proved a lousy candidate?

Can’t Hillary Clinton turn voters’ attention to her recent stewardship of American foreign policy?

GAY LOBBY TRIES TO CONTROL MEDIA COVERAGE OF POPE’S ACTIONS

A gay lobbying group is pushing its preferred script for media coverage of Pope Francis’ visit to the United States.

GLAAD’s guide, titled “The Papal Visit: A journalist’s guide to reporting on Pope Francis and the LGBT community,” sets its preferred terms for covering homosexuality. It also suggests a series of story lines and plots to portray the lives of gays, lesbians and transsexuals as happy and positive, except when they’re supposedly victimized by the Catholic church.

The “talking points” suggest reporters tell the “stories of people being fired for being LGBT,” to highlight statements from the hierarchy that are “out of step with Catholics” and to explore the relationship between homosexuality and “other important Roman Catholic issues.”

Worcester stadium moves to phase I market analysis

Contingent upon the receipt of funds from Hat Trick Consulting — the firm responsible for the idea in the first place, and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, Worcester County is ready to proceed with the market analysis study for a proposed stadium to be placed in an as-yet undetermined location.

That was the message the Worcester County Commissioners received Tuesday in Snow Hill from county personnel during an update on the proposal.

The field of possible locations was somewhat narrowed as DBED requires, as part of its funding agreement, the facility to be located within a “priority funding area,” which, it turns out, still covers a lot of ground in Worcester.

According to Ed Tudor, director of development review and permitting, these areas were established in 1997. Municipalities automatically qualify at their 1997 borders and annexations since then could qualify if they meet certain criteria, Tudor said.

SCHOOL DISTRICT HIRES PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS TO CATCH KIDS ‘STEALING’ EDUCATION

“It’s a problem that every school district has if you’re a good town..."

A New Jersey news site is highlighting a growing “problem” with parents who fudge enrollment documents to send their children to schools outside of their home districts.

The Asbury Park Press recently spoke with private investigator Jimmie Mesis, who earns a living tracking down parents who commit “fraud” against school districts by using fake addresses and documents to enroll their children in better schools.

“Taxpayers want to make sure that they’re paying for kids who live in their town and they’re not subsidizing kids who live in another town,” Mesis told the site. “Fraud is fraud.”

The problem stems from imaginary geographic boundaries that trap students in specific school districts or schools that do not take into consideration academic performance or student needs. In New Jersey, schools receive about $19,000 per student through local property taxes, and state and federal funding, and school officials are employing investigators like Mesis to root out “boundary hoppers.”

Do you remember Lewis “Scooter” Libby?

In 2003, the Department of Justice appointed a special counsel to investigate allegations that Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, unlawfully disclosed the covert status of CIA operative Valerie Plame.

Yet Plame may not have been a covert undercover agent, based on the formal government definition of that role. And even if she were, it was widely known at the time that Secretary of State Colin Powell’s subordinate, Richard Armitage, had most likely disclosed her status earlier.

In other words, Libby was in an Orwellian position of being accused of a crime that may not have existed. But if it had, it was more likely committed by someone else.

Publicity-seeking special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald persuaded a Washington, D.C., jury to find Libby guilty of obstruction of justice, perjury, and making false statements to federal investigators — not the supposed crimes for which he was originally targeted by the media.

Apparently, the very suspicion of improper behavior by high public servants once warranted vigorous legal inquiry — by supposedly independent and autonomous prosecutors.

In the eight-plus years since the Libby trial, the Obama administration has blown up the law as we have known it for centuries.

Statistics Don't Support Fear Of A 'War On Police'

The ambush-style murder of Sheriff Deputy Darren Goforth at a gas station in suburban Houston on Aug. 29 has added new urgency to warnings about a growing "war on cops" in America. After the arrest of the suspect, an African-American man named Shannon J. Miles, the local district attorney called for more public support for law enforcement.

"It is time for the silent majority in this country to support law enforcement," said Devon Anderson, the Harris County DA. "There are a few bad apples in every profession. That does not mean there should be open warfare declared on law enforcement."

The notion of growing "warfare" against police stems in part from a statistical jump in the number of law officers murdered — "feloniously killed," in the jargon of the FBI's numbers.

In 2014, the year of the Ferguson protests and increased media attention on police misconduct, 51 officers were killed nationwide. That was a jump from the 27 killed in 2013 and many took it as a sign of greater danger for police.

Seth Stoughton, a former police officer and an assistant law professor at the University of South Carolina, calls that interpretation "nonsense."

"It's misleading to compare one year to another year," he says.

Becky Lee Tourist Home

The era before a large number of motels dotted our highways saw a number of larger homes turned into “tourist homes”. Before the Salisbury Boulevard was built in 1939, Route 13 ran from N. Division St. to Camden Ave. through Salisbury (or from Camden Ave.to N. Division St. if you were heading north).

Along this route was the Becky Lee Tourist Home. It was listed at 1307 Camden Ave. The number of the address was changed by the City of Salisbury in October, 1952, to 1008 Camden Ave., when all the street numbers in Salisbury were changed. The home is now cut up into five apartments. It is on the north corner of Somerset Ave. and the west side of Camden Ave.

The Becky Lee Tourist Home was established around 1930 by Mrs. T. H. Pusey. It was described as being situated in the best suburban section of the city.

Some of the amenities offered were shower baths, spacious porches, shade trees and telephone service.

Most of the old tourist homes have been converted in apartments now due to their size. One family could not possibly heat a house of such dimensions – many rooms, high ceilings, etc. When these homes were built, they probably provided living quarters for the father, mother, several children and other family members such parents, aunts or uncles.

People do not rent out rooms by the night anymore. If they rent a room, it is probably to someone for an extended period.

Mysterious Trains Explained Along Route 113; Excursion Train Study’s Second Part To Offer Financial Data

BERLIN – When Don Fisher looked at the long abandoned train tracks just a stone’s throw from his house on Carey Road in Berlin a few months ago, he noticed something he found to be a bit strange — about 30 freight tanker train cars.

“I don’t know where they came from or how they got there, but that track has been offline for a few years,” said Fisher. “They just appeared out of nowhere a few days before the 4th of July and I never heard a thing.”

Fisher says the train cars have been there ever since, tucked back just behind the tree line just a few steps from Route 113 south, and he has now gone from wondering how they got there, to worrying what their presence means for the future.

Troopers Investigating Serious Motorcycle Crash on Coastal Highway and Hudson Road, Milton

 

Milton, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a serious motorcycle crash that occurred last night at the intersection of Coastal Highway (SR1) and Hudson Road.

 

Preliminary investigation indicates the incident happened around 7:00 p.m. Friday September 18, 2015 as Amanda L. McDonald, 27 of Lewes, was operating a Mercury Montego eastbound on Hudson Road stopped at the stop sign waiting to cross over Coastal Highway (SR1) southbound lanes.  Kenneth R. Tarburton Sr., 54 of Wilmington, was operating a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on SR1 in the right lane approaching Hudson Road.  McDonald failed to see the motorcycle and proceeded into the southbound lanes where the motorcycle struck the left rear of the Mercury, ejecting Tarburton and his passenger.

 

Kenneth Tarburton, who was wearing an approved DOT helmet, was airlifted from the scene by Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 2) to Christiana Medical Center where he was admitted in critical condition.

 

Elizabeth A. Tarburton, 53 of Wilmington (Wife), was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare where she was admitted with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

 

Amanda McDonald and a juvenile passenger, were both properly restrained and were transported to Beebe Healthcare where they were treated and released as a precautionary measure without injuries.

 

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.  Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this case and charges are pending.  SR1 southbound lanes at Hudson Road were closed for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

 

With the Ocean City, Maryland Bike Week in full swing, troopers are offering tips to motorists and motorcyclists alike to "Share the Road."

 

Motorcycles are vehicles with the same rights and privileges as any motor vehicle on the roadway. Drivers of other passenger vehicles should always remember to follow these steps to help keep motorcyclists safe:

 

• Allow a motorcyclist the full lane width. Although it may seem as though there is enough room in a traffic lane for an automobile and a motorcycle, the motorcycle needs the full room to ma­neuver safely. Do not share the lane.

 

• Always signal your intentions before changing lanes or merging with traffic. This allows the mo­torcyclist to anticipate traffic flow and find a safe lane position.

 

• Remember that motorcyclists are often hidden in a vehicle’s blind spot or missed in a quick look due to their smaller size. Always make a visual check for motorcycles by checking mirrors and blind spots before entering or leaving a lane of traffic and at intersections.

 

• Don’t be fooled by a flashing turn signal on a mo­torcycle – motorcycle signals usually are not self-canceling and riders sometimes forget to turn them off. Wait to be sure the motorcycle is going to turn before you proceed.

 

• Remember that road conditions which are minor annoyances to passenger vehicles pose major hazards to motor­cyclists. Be aware that motorcyclists may need to change speed or adjust their position within a lane suddenly in reaction to road and traffic conditions such as potholes, gravel, wet or slippery surfaces, pavement seams, railroad crossings, and grooved pavement.

 

• Allow more following distance, three or four sec­onds, when following a motorcycle so the motorcyclist has enough time to maneuver or stop in an emer­gency. And don’t tailgate. In dry conditions, motorcycles can stop more quickly than cars.

 

Motorcyclists have responsibilities too, by following the rules of the roadway, being alert to other drivers, and always wearing protective gear.

 

But too often, in a crash, the drivers of other vehicles involved say they never saw the motorcyclist and failed to respond in time. This is no excuse.  Too many lives are being lost. 

 

Our message to all drivers is: “Share the Road” with motorcycles.  Look twice before pulling out or making turns.  The headlight of a motorcycle may appear far away, but they can be deceiving.

The policy of “leading from behind” and the crudity of “We came, we saw, he [Qaddafi] died” have left a human tragedy in Libya. Backing the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt was an inexplicable choice, and it almost ruined the country. The United States did not need to hound and jail an innocent video maker in order to concoct a myth to cover up the culpable lax security in Benghazi. Yemen was strangely declared a model of our anti-terrorism efforts — just weeks before it ignited into another Somalia or Congo. ISIS was airily written off as a jayvee bunch as it spread beyond Syria and Iraq. There is little need to do a detailed comparison of Iraq now and Iraq in February 2009 (when it was soon to be the administration’s “greatest achievement,” a “stable” and “self-reliant” nation); the mess in between is attributable to Obama’s use of the aftermath of the Iraq War for pre-election positioning. Ordering Assad to flee while ignoring the violence in Syria and proclaiming a faux red line has now tragically led to a million refugees in Europe (and another 4 million in the neighborhood) and more than 200,000 dead. Israel is now considered not an ally, not even a neutral, but apparently a hostile state worthy of more presidential invective than is Iran. We have few if any reliable friends any more in the Gulf. Iran will become a nuclear power. The only mystery over how that will happen is whether Obama was inept or whether he deliberately sought to make the theocracy some sort of a strategic power and U.S. ally. The Middle East over the next decade may see three or four additional new nuclear powers. The Russia of kleptocrat Vladimir Putin is seen in the region as a better friend than is the U.S. — and certainly a far more dangerous enemy to provoke.

There is no easy cure for all this; it will take years just to sort out the mess.

Jon Stewart Joins 9/11 Workers in Pressing Congress to Extend Benefits

Jon Stewart, the recently retired host of “The Daily Show,” exhorted Congress on Wednesday to permanently extend a law providing treatment and compensation to rescue workers who were injured or sickened by the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The bill, which is set to start expiring next month, has long been a favored cause of the comedian, whose shows in 2010 criticizing the law’s Republican opponents and showcasing emergency medical workers with health problems helped prompt its passage.

The law, called the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, pledged federal money for the health care of rescue workers who had for years been forced to depend on mix of short-term federal, city and private money.

With rescue workers and advocates growing nervous that they will be left shouldering the burden for expensive treatment, a bearded Mr. Stewart, flanked by law enforcement officials and New York lawmakers, spoke at a rally in front of the United States Capitol.

O’Malley won’t face ethics inquiry over mansion furniture purchases

The Maryland State Ethics Commission will not launch an inquiry related to former governor Martin O’Malley’s purchase of furniture from the governor’s mansion in Annapolis, according to a statement Thursday night from the state Attorney General’s office.

Upon leaving office in January, the family of O’Malley, a Democratic presidential hopeful, took dozens of items that his administration had deemed “excess property" to furnish their new home in Baltimore.

As first reported last month by the Baltimore Sun, the family paid $9,638 for beds, chairs, desks, lamps, mirrors and other items from the mansion’s living quarters that originally cost taxpayers $62,000. Many of the pieces were eight years old or more, and they were discounted by administration officials to reflect their age.

Guy Arrested After Smelling Women's Feet At Florida University Library

I guess he couldn't handle all those flip-flops in Florida.

Eddy Juan, a 52-year-old sex offender, was arrested after a campus-wide alert notified students and staff of a man spotted crawling under tables and smelling women's feet at Florida International University's Green library.

Before Juan was apprehended, fliers were passed around campus with Juan's picture. In one picture he was spotted getting around in a motor scooter.

Juan was eventually spotted a few days after the alert, and tried to escape on his scooter before crashing. Juan was arrested with charges including a violation of sexual offender registration, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, aggravated assault and resisting without violence.

U.S. Government To Offer Each New Refugee Thousands Of Dollars In Social Services And Cash

Refugees receive a plethora of services and assistance when they reach the shores of the America, according to a recently released study.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops posted a PDF on their website breaking down available assistance for refugees resettled in the United States. The information is based on a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

President Barack Obama initially said he wanted to bring in 10,000 Syrian refugees. The White House is now discussing raising that from 70,000 this year to 85,000 in 2016 and 100,000 in fiscal 2017, administration officials told Bloomberg News.

The numbers of refugees appear on track to grow and each refugee is offered a placement grant of $1,850 from the Department of State. This includes: pre-arrival, reception, initial housing food, clothing, referral services and social programs. The benefit eligibility are for those refugees who have been in the U.S. for up to three months.

Arlington Police: Don’t Give to Roadside Panhandlers

The Arlington County Police Department is urging motorists to stop giving money to roadside panhandlers, suggesting that many may not be as needy as they claim to be.

In a press release Sept. 3, which was published on the county website but apparently not sent to news outlets, ACPD said that residents “should avoid giving panhandlers money directly.”

“There’s no telling what the cash will be used for,” said an ACPD captain, referring specifically to those to beg for money on traffic medians. “Officers have even seen those who appear to be indigent drive off in their own cars after working an intersection.”

The Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network, which helps the homeless, has echoed the police department’s anti-roadside-panhandling call.

Saluting with a cheesy grin on his face as as Old Glory goes up in flames, you have to wonder just what was going through Brendin Bossle’s mind, as the ginger Call Of Duty fan stands on his parents porch, and waits for his mom to finish washing his socks.

Since the original post went up on Facebook, it appears as though Bossle has deleted his Facebook account, as I’m assuming dealing with hundreds of thousands of angry Americans demanding an explanation just really wasn’t “his thing.”

Illegal Briefs

It has been brought to my attention that various States are clamoring to appease the gay community to “legalize” something called “Same Sex Marriage”.

I have this to say.

When contemplating marriage, a couple often is required by their pastor to undergo counselling to ensure that the bond will be a good one and each person realizes exactly what they are getting themselves in to, and to ensure that the marriage will actually last a lifetime, as the vows require. There is also another much more core issue that is investigated and explored that is extremely important to a good marriage.

When applying for a marriage license down at the court house, this same core issue is explored and holds the same requirement as the Church holds. No license can be issued without this requirement being fulfilled, and no preacher will marry any couple without this same requirement being fulfilled.

Marriage has always been recognized as the bonding of two to reproduce within the population, to put it simply.

What is it? A clandestine anti First Amendment coalition of Church and State? OMG!

No. It’s a simple rule to ensure the fidelity and purity of our races of peoples and to avoid mongoloidism and inferior gene pools, the “3rd cousin” requirement. This has been in place for centuries for one specific reason.

It’s not a requirement to get a:

Driver’s license
Business license
Hairdresser’s license
Contractor’s license
The list is endless.

Can anyone guess why?

It’s not so turds will come out genetically pure.

It’s not so spit will make genetically pure sputum.

So, now, how is it called a “marriage” without the CORE reason of marriage involved in the relationship?

Answer: Sorry, folks, there’s no such thing as “Same sex marriage”. Period.

Amazon tablets are going the way of the e-reader.

One of the new tablets from the e-commerce giant is a 7-inch tablet — simply called the Fire tablet — that costs $50. That's right: for a cool Ulysses, a new Amazon Fire tablet can be yours.

In fact, Amazon is so convinced of this inexpensive Fire tablet's role as a utility that it's offering it in a six-pack. Buy five, and you'll get the sixth tablet free. Who's the cool dude rolling up to the party with a six-pack of tablets, or the person playing Santa Claus at the next holiday gathering? You with the $50 tablet, that's who.

In all seriousness, it’s not entirely clear why Amazon thinks a six pack of tablets is a good idea — though it might make sense for the education market.

This is not a top-of-the-line tablet. It's not one of the new Fire HD tablets, and it's definitely not the Kindle Fire HDX. The 7-inch Kindle Fire has a 1024 x 600 resolution display (although, with IPS), a 1.3Ghz quad-core processor, 8 gigabytes of internal storage, one gigabyte of RAM, and your basic front- and rear-facing cameras. It runs on the latest version of Fire OS and claims seven hours of battery life with average use.

But Amazon does claim this little tablet is more durable than iPad Air, and has two times more processing power than Samsung's competing Tab 3 Lite.

What Does French Ride-Sharing Company BlaBlaCar Have That Uber Doesn't?

Uber takes you from place to place within a city, as does its ride-sharing competitor Lyft. Taxis, of course, do the same. But what about ride-sharing for long-distance car trips? In European countries, there's an app for that. It's called BlaBlaCar — and it's on the move.

Today the 9-year-old French ride-sharing company that bills itself as "the world's leading long-distance ridesharing platform" announced that it has raised $200 million from three venture capital funds and is valued at $1.6 billion. Forbes says it "stands out as one of the most well-funded young tech companies in Europe."

Blablacar is often compared to Uber, but in reality, its business model is fundamentally different. It connects people who are traveling between cities, not within a city, and, most importantly, BlalaCar drivers don't make a profit. The idea behind BlaBlaCar stems from the fact that people are driving from city to city with open seats in their car. BlaBlaCar puts drivers and passengers in touch with each other and everyone shares the cost of the drive. This strategy also protects the company from having to deal with taxi regulations that have plagued Uber.

"We cap the maximum price on all journeys, so the driver doesn't exceed the cost of gas or wear-and-tear expenses of the vehicle. As a result, the driver does not make a profit on any journey," Nicolas Brusson, co-founder and COO of BlaBlaCar said in a statement.

Post Alleging Starbucks Refused to Let Police Sergeant Use Restroom Goes Viral

A downtown Philadelphia Starbucks is at the center of controversy this weekend after a Facebook post alleging that an employee of the coffee shop refused to allow a uniformed Philadelphia Police sergeant use the restroom went viral.

The post, which does not identify the sergeant involved, says he walked into the Starbucks at 13th and Chestnut streets and asked to use the restroom, for which a key code is required. The employee, according to the post, "State[d] in a loud voice ... that the bathroom is for paying customers only." The post goes on to say that the sergeant asked politely to use the restroom anyway, and that the Starbucks employee declined to grant access.

Army To Open A Hearing On Former Taliban Prisoner, An Accused Deserter

Army Sgt. Robert "Bowe" Bergdahl will be in a military courtroom in Texas Thursday, for the start of a hearing that will determine if he will face a court-martial on desertion and other charges. He could face a sentence of life in prison.

Whether the military proceeds with a court-martial will hinge, in part, on the events of the night of June 30, 2009. That's when Bergdahl went missing from his unit's outpost in a remote part of eastern Afghanistan.

Initially, Sgt. Bergdahl claimed in a Taliban video that he was captured when he lagged behind on patrol. U.S. military radio intercepts of conversations between insurgents that were later released by WikiLeaks reported that the Taliban said they captured Bergdahl while he squatting, going to the latrine.

Palestinian kids aspire to 'blow up the Jews'

A Palestinian television show features two interviewees in military fatigues who declare their aspiration in life is to “blow up the Jews.”

They’re about 6 years old.

The boys appear on a children’s show moderated by a girl who is not much older than they are, reports the Middle East Media Research Institute, a nonprofit that spotlights reports from Middle East media.

MEMRI said the show was on Al-Aqsa TV, the official channel of Hamas, the jihadist organization that governs Gaza.

Martin O’Malley to Obama: 10,000 Syrian Refugees Not Enough

The U.S. should accept at least 65,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2016, acceding to Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley. The former Maryland governor says President Obama’s move to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees next year is no more than “a token increase.”

In a letter to Obama Tuesday, O’Malley expressed disappointment at the levels the administration is moving to welcome.

“The images from Europe this month reminded the world that more than four million Syrians have been made refugees. Many governments are responding admirably by significantly increasing their refugee quotas to match the depth of the crisis,” O’Malley wrote.

“I appreciate your administration’s attention to this issue, but I was disappointed to learn that the United States would accept only 10,000 Syrian refugees next year,” he added.

Following news that high school freshman Ahmed Mohamed brought a homemade clock which police described as a “hoax bomb” onto campus, police declined to file charges and President Obama reached and invited Mohamed to bring his clock and visit the White House. Contrast that with the experience of an unnamed elementary school student who was threatened with expulsion–and ultimately pulled from the school–for drawing a picture of a Ninja holding a gun.

Or contrast Mohamed’s experience with that of the Washington state elementary school students who were suspended for bringing a Nerf gun to school. It was June 2013 when theNew York Daily News reported that the students were suspended for violating the school’s “zero tolerance” on guns–Nerf or otherwise. Or consider the 7-year-old student whose parents had to hire a lawyer after the school threatened to suspend the child for chewing a Pop-Tart into the shape of a gun. CBS News reported that the incident occurred in March 2013–that the student chewed the Pop-Tart into just the right shape then said, “Look, I made a gun.”

Baltimore Police Body Camera Testing To Begin In October

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Balitmore Mayor Stephanie-Rawlings Blake announced Thursday that the police department will begin testing body cameras in October.

“I am pleased that we are moving forward with our plans to bring body-worn cameras to our officers, because I believe they will help to bring a greater level of accountability and trust to our efforts to improve police-community relations,” Rawlings-Blake said. “I have made it clear that I want us to do this right, and this pilot program will ensure that we find the right solution for Baltimore.”

Three vendors were selected by the city to participate in the pilot program that will begin Oct. 26 and end on Dec. 18.

Laundry ‘pods’ get makeover after child safety risks

After tens of thousands of calls from frightened caregivers to poison control centers across the country, your laundry detergent may be getting a fresh look.

According to the American Association of Poison Control Centers, the new highly-concentrated, single-load liquid laundry detergent packets sometimes cause children to experience excessive vomiting and difficulty breathing when ingested.

Liquid laundry detergent packets, often known as “pods,” first hit the market in 2012. They’re convenient to use and extremely popular — but they also carry hidden dangers.

Between January and July there were 7,184 incidents reported to the A.A.P.C.C. involving kids younger than six years old. That number is on track to exceed the total number of incidents reported in all of 2014 (11,714). This has prompted consumer advocacy groups to ask for stronger warnings on laundry pods.

Hillary’s Game of Thrones

The bad news has continued to cascade onto the Hillary Clinton for President campaign, and none of it has anything to do with Clinton’s opinions on issues. It all is about her fitness for office.

Since Labor Day, we have learned that the folks into whose hands Clinton reposed her computer server for safe keeping do not believe it has been wiped clean of all emails, as her lawyer told a federal judge it was. That means the 33,000 emails she thought she destroyed probably still could be recovered. What will they reveal?

And we learned earlier this week that of the emails released thus far — those Clinton did not attempt to destroy — there is a five- month gap for which no emails were produced. For a government official who sent or received about 15,000 emails a year, five months of silence is not believable. Two of those months followed the assassination of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya in Benghazi. Where are her emails from that time period?

Summer Survey Provides Some Surprises About Visitors

OCEAN CITY — Ocean City tourism officials this week reviewed the results of a summer-long survey of a large segment of the visitors to the resort, providing a snapshot of pertinent information such as how often they come, how long they stay, where do they stay and what do they do when they get here.

Ocean City Tourism Director Donna Abbott presented the findings of the survey to the town’s Tourism Commission on Monday. She said the survey was conducted from Memorial Day to Labor Day and roughly 2,000 visitors participated. The surveys were conducted at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center, which produced better and more tangible results than prior attempts.

“I think it has a lot of good information,” said Abbott. “Last year, we took the survey at different places and we found people didn’t want to take the time to complete it if they were on the beach or Boardwalk. In the Convention Center setting, more were willing to take the time because they were already likely there to collect information about the resort.”

Chincoteague Police Investigating Alleged Theft Of ‘Buyback Foal’

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (WJZ) — A buyback foal was taken from the carnival grounds in Chincoteague, Va, according to the local fire department.

Dreamer’s Faith was taken from the grounds on Sept. 6 or Sept. 7. She was designated a “buyback foal” by the fire company to return to Assateague Island to live out her life.

The pony was a part of the foals who take part in the the annual pony swim between Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island. She was not auctioned off like some of the others are to help control the island’s wild pony population.

Fatal Crash Involving Stolen Dirt Bike Under Investigation

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A fatal crash involving a stolen dirt bike is under investigation in the city.

Police say the dirt bike and a minivan collided at the intersection of Biddle Street and Patterson Park Avenue in East Baltimore.

The operator of the dirt bike was taken to an area hospital. The 27-year-old later died from his injuries.

U.S. Navy Secretary announces both the Navy and the Marine Corps will now allow women to hold any job they offer

Integration of the sexes in the U.S. Armed Forces took a giant leap as U.S. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced both the Navy and the Marine Corps will now allow women to hold any job they offer.

The move comes after a series of measures by top U.S. military officials to study how such integration could be possible. U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter called for a reviews of integration obstacles by October 1.

One study conducted by the Marine Corps compared combat units with female members to combat units with all-male teams, and claimed units with female members suffered more injuries, and under-performed in speed and accuracy.

Secretary Mabus criticized the the study a few days prior to the announcement, saying proper leadership and training could close any gap indicated in the study, and maintains there will be no exceptions for either branch.

Maryland should implement mandatory influenza vaccination for children in licensed child care and preschool programs.

Influenza, a serious preventable viral disease that peaks in frequency during the winter season, is associated with high morbidity and mortality in younger children and the elderly. It is easily prevented through vaccination. Among all age groups, influenza infection rates are highest in pre-school and school-aged children. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 20 percent to 50 percent of children under age 5 are infected with the influenza virus annually. Children also carry a higher viral load and stay contagious for longer time periods compared to adults. These findings have major public health implications, as the disease burden associated with influenza in children ultimately leads to a domino effect and can help cause an influenza epidemic.

The public health ramifications of an influenza outbreak are significant, resulting in huge social and economic burdens. In the United States, about 1 out of every 1,000 children infected with influenza annually is hospitalized. The CDC estimates that an average of 73 hours of work time is lost for caregivers of hospitalized children. One U.S. study demonstrated that for every 100 children followed during the influenza season, 28 developed influenza. This was associated with 68 missed school days, 20 missed work days by parents, and 22 transmissions of influenza to other household members. This translates to a high loss of productivity for children in terms of missed schoolwork and for adults in terms of missed work.

OC Bike Week In Full Swing

I made a couple road trips today to and from Ocean City and let me tell you, there are bikers everywhere. I did find my experience a bit disturbing this year as many bikers were taking up both lanes in masses and only doing 55 mph, as shown in the above picture. No one was willing to move over and even though I too am a rider, I respect other people on the road and move over.

Coming in to Ocean City, (first picture) traffic was backed up into Berlin but is moving along with no problem. 

Please be aware of the bikers on the road and please look twice before you pull out onto any road. Remember, they bring in MILLIONS of revenue throughout the entire Shore and they'll be on their way home in two days.

WALKERSVILLE MAN CONVICTED AND SENTENCED ON RAPE 2nd DEGREE, SEXUAL OFFENSE 2nd DEGREE AND RELATED CHARGES

  On June 3, 2015, Andrew Hull, age 25, of Walkersville, Maryland, was convicted by a Wicomico County Jury of Rape 2nd Degree, Sexual Offense 2ndDegree, Sodomy, and related charges. An investigation conducted by the Salisbury Police Department revealed that on November 1, 2014, Hull attended a party hosted by the victim at her home. In the early morning hours of November 2, 2014, Hull entered the bedroom of the victim and engaged in vaginal intercourse as well as anal intercourse without the knowing consent of the victim.

On September 18, 2015, Hull was sentenced to 20 years in the Division of Corrections on Rape 2nd Degree, and 20 years in the Division of Corrections on Sexual Offense 2nd Degree, to run concurrent. Hull will have to register as a Tier III sex offender for a term of life. Wicomico County State’s Attorney, Matthew A. Maciarello, commended the Salisbury City Police Department, Det. Thompsen and State’s Attorney Investigator Tracy Kilgore for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked the citizens of Wicomico County who sat on the jury, and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Kristen Schultz who prosecuted the case.

Did Hillary Clinton Sign This Classified Information Form?

Amid the many unanswered questions in the Hillary Clinton email scandal is whether the former secretary of state signed an official document acknowledging that she turned over all of the classified information in her possession to the State Department when she left office in Feb. 2013.

The “Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement” — Special Form 312 — also requires incoming government officials to acknowledge that classified information can be either “marked” or “unmarked” as such.

But finding out whether Clinton signed the document has been difficult.

The State Department declined to say whether she signed the form. The Daily Caller has also learned that the agency has not turned SF-312s for Clinton and several of her top aides over to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which requested them on Aug. 5.

The House voted Friday to block federal funding to Planned Parenthood for a year, in the chamber's first legislative response to videos showing the abortion provider's tissue harvesting practices.

The bill passed 241-187. The Senate has not yet acted on the issue.

Lawmakers are voting next on a related bill to curb some abortion procedures.

But hanging over the debate is the looming possibility of a government shutdown showdown.

Police Searching For Wanted Armed Robber

Worcester County Sheriff's Office

Crisfield Police and the Somerset County Sheriff's Office are searching for an armed robbery suspect they say is armed and dangerous.

Officers have identified the man as 38-year-old Clarence Nicholson of Princess Anne. They say Thursday at around 4:10 p.m. he entered the Somers Cove Market on Cove Street, displayed an automatic handgun and took cash from the register. According to police, Nicholson then locked the store manager inside the restroom and fled in an unknown direction.

Crisfield Police identified the suspect within two hours of the armed robbery. They say he does have family living in the area, even though he is from Princess Anne.

Anyone who knows where Nicholson may be, should contact your local Law Enforcement Agency.

Rodney Square stabbing victim hailed as a hero

WILMINGTON Thomas Cottingham, convicted of fracturing a man’s skull with a hatchet in 2010 and known as “Cannibal,” was hailed as a hero Tuesday after he was stabbed to death protecting a young mother and her baby from a knife-wielding attacker the night before in Rodney Square, police said.

Cottingham, 27, of Wilmington, was stabbed repeatedly near a bus stop at 10th and North King streets, shortly after 9:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

Calvin Hooker III, 25, of Wilmington, is being held without bail on charges including first-degree murder, Sgt. Andrea Janvier said. Hooker was caught several blocks away after he ran off a DART bus after being spotted by police.

Ocean City to oppose offshore seismic testing

If you think your upstairs neighbor’s constant thumping is bad, imagine how the fish are going to feel.

Ocean City may be passing a resolution next week opposing federal plans to permit the use of underwater sound cannons to test for oil and gas deposits below the ocean floor off of the resort’s beach.

The Assateague Coastal Trust is trying to rally support for the resolution, to be presented to the city council at this coming Monday’s session.

“I think we would likely send a letter to our congressional delegation and to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management,” said City Engineer Terry McGean.

“It’s the council’s decision, but my personal recommendation was that the potential benefit of any jobs created from offshore oil and gas exploration is probably pretty far outweighed by the risk to an industry we already have, which is fishing.”

Attack on Teachers

As the new school year begins, you might like to be updated on some school happenings that will no doubt be repeated this academic year. After this update, I have some questions one might ask the black leadership.

The ongoing and escalating assault on primary- and secondary-school teachers is not a pretty sight. Holly Houston is a post-traumatic stress specialist. She counsels teachers in Chicago public schools and reported, “Of the teachers that I have counseled over the years who have been assaulted, 100 percent of them have satisfied diagnostic criteria for PTSD.” It’s not just big-city schoolteachers traumatized. Dr. Darlyne Nemeth, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, said last year, “I have treated many teachers with PTSD, and I am currently following a few of them.”

A Philadelphia seventh-grade girl with a history of incidents against her teacher sprayed perfume in the teacher’s face after telling her that she smelled “like old white pussy.” After telling her classmates “I’m about to kick this bitch’s white ass,” she shoved the teacher, knocking her to the floor. In 2014, a Philadelphia 68-year-old substitute teacher was knocked out cold by a student (http://tinyurl.com/orldslb). Earlier that year, two other teachers in the same school were assaulted. By the way, Philadelphia schools employ close to 400 school police officers.

In a school district near St. Louis, teachers have had pepper spray and dog repellant sprayed in their faces. A Baltimore teacher had his jaw broken. In Baltimore, each school day in 2010, an average of four teachers and staff were assaulted. A 325-pound high-school student in Houston knocked out his 66-year-old female teacher (http://tinyurl.com/oqxmrfg). Nationally, an average of 1,175 teachers and staff were physically attacked each day of the 2011-12 school year.

Study Finds Link Between Agent Orange and Blood Cancer

Even 30 years after exposure

Scientists are more certain than ever that Agent Orange is causing cancer in Vietnam War veterans.

A recent study of 479 Vietnam veterans who were involved in Agent Orange defoliation efforts in that country found that these individuals are twice as likely to develop a blood condition known as monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance, or MGUS. The disorder is a precursor for multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.

During the Vietnam War, Agent Orange was used by U.S. forces to kill off trees and vegetation in the jungles of Vietnam and Cambodia that the enemy used as cover. The chemical is composed of several herbicides – including 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid – nicknamed for the orange stripe on the barrels in which they were stored. When these two herbicides are combined, they create a carcinogen dioxin known as TCDD, which is the most toxic of dioxins.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs recognizes that Agent Orange causes multiple myeloma, several types of leukemia, and other cancers, as well as diabetes, heart disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Veterans are supposed to receive care for their medical problems if they can prove they were exposed to the chemical, and they can get disability compensation.

Ocean City Planning Rental License Fee Increase; $500 Fine For No License Likely

OCEAN CITY — Ocean City officials moved forward this week with a stopgap measure of sorts for the larger R-1A single-family neighborhood rental issue, but not before adding some teeth to the proposed rental license application process.

Throughout the last year, town officials have been wrestling with the issue of vacation rentals in Ocean City’s quieter single-family home neighborhoods. The issue came to a head last summer when property owners in at least one residential neighborhood complained of the noise, parking problems, trash and often crime in their otherwise quiet communities.

Earlier this summer, the Mayor and Council tabled a decision on the creation of a new R-1A zoning designation that would insulate some quiet neighborhoods from vacation rentals, vowing to revisit the issue during the upcoming comprehensive plan process. In the meantime, town officials are moving forward with a more stringent rental application process in its R-1 districts in an effort to ease enforcement efforts and increase awareness about the rental license requirements.
