Just a little while ago, MSP were chasing one of these vehicles. These 2 cars (White Expedition v/s silver BMW) wrecked at Rt. 50 & Seahawk Rd. in Berlin. MSP found a loaded handgun in the BMW. There is 1 feared dead so far. The medic helicopter landed behind Stephen Decatur Middle School, but left without a patient. The vehicles are still there for reconstruction, so it's advised to try alternate routes. More details to come...

A Comment Worthy Of A Post
"I am so glad I don't live in Salisbury. The place is going downhill fast.
I remember when Barrie Tilghman first ran for Mayor. In her caampaign ad, she said, "I'm running for mayor because..." with the emphasis on the word "I'm." I remember thinking then that the comment made the statement that her campaign was all about HER, not Salisbury. It seems I've been proven right. In fact, I spoke with an older woman just yesterday who moved to Salisbury for her retirement. She told me she wished she hadn't and is very disappointed with Salisbury and its decline.
And I am grateful that if I need help, I would deal with the County Sheriff and not Chief Webster. His anger at Joe for telling us all about the ATM robbery at Bank of America makes no sense to me. Isn't he supposed to protect the people of Salisbury? How can he do that when he doesn't even think it's necessary to warn the public about killers and robbers? It does seem that he is using the public as his decoys, and that makes him a very dangerous man, not one who should be entrusted with public safety.
Cyber-terrorist?!!! Are you kidding me? Mr. Webster, why don't you go after the criminals and not the man warning us to be careful about things you don't want us to know. I may not live in Salisbury, but I work there every day, and every day, with you at the helm, I feel less and less safe."

Bill's Donors & Hillary's Conflicts
500M PROBLEMS FOR MADAME SECRETARY
By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN
Published in the New York Post on December 19, 2008
Now that Bill Clinton has released the list of his 205,000 donors who have given close to $500 million to his library and foundation, it is clear why he resisted releasing the list while his wife was running for president.
Now, compelled by the Obama transition team to make it public as a condition of his wife's appointment as secretary of state, it becomes clear that the list is a virtual encyclopedia of conflicts of interest for the husband of a senator - to say nothing of the husband of an incoming secretary of state.
Particularly troubling are the massive donations from Arab governments in the Middle East.
Pardon us f or looking such generous gift horses in the mouth, but it is hard to imagine so many governments, monarchs and businessmen in the Middle East giving money unless it was with some hope of a political return. Will that return now come with the appointment of Sen. Clinton as secretary of state?
How can Hillary Rodham Clinton mediate and negotiate conflicts in the Middle East impartially when her husband's library and foundation - over which he has total control - have been bankrolled by the very nations with whom she must negotiate?
The list reveals another key center of conflicts of interest in Kazakhstan, the former Soviet republic, now home to some of the world's greatest mineral deposits and ruled by a corrupt dictator, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who, according to The New York Times, has all but quashed political dissent.
Bill Clinton visited Kazakhstan and met with its president on Sept. 6, 2005, accompanied by Canadian mining financier Frank Giustra.
Soon after, Giustra was awarded a highly lucrative contract to mine uranium there. Now, lo and behold, Frank Giustra turns up having given the library and foundation between $10 million and $25 million and the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative of Canada gave $1 million to $5 million more.
And Clinton got $1 million to $5 million from Lakshmi Mittal, the fourth-wealthiest person on the Forbes billionaire list and a member of the Foreign Investment Council in Kazakhstan.
In addition, Clinton further fished in troubled waters by taking $1 million to $5 million from Victor Pinchuk, the son-in-law of the controversial former president of the Ukraine.
Given the complexities of US policy toward the former Soviet republics in Central Asia, it is hard to see how this massive and incestuous relationship cannot but complicate Hillary's independence.
One of the largest donors to the library and foundation was UNITAID, an international organization largely controlled by France, which donated more than $25 million. And the conflicts of interest are not all just foreign. Corporate bailout recipients and recipient wannabes donated to the Clinton fund. They include AIG , Lehman, Merrill, the Citi Foundation and General Motors.
And, almost as an afterthought, the list reveals a donation of at least $250,000 from Denise Rich, presumably in return for her ex-husband's presidential pardon.
How could a US senator possibly serve dispassionately while her husband was collecting money from these donors on this kind of scale? And how could we have almost elected a president without realizing these conflicts existed? And how on earth can a secretary of state function with these conflicts hanging over her head?

BREAKING NEWS
The Mardela, Hebron and Sharptown Fire Departments are on the scene of a structure fire with lots of smoke on Sharptown Road.
I'm told they found 12 crates full of dogs on the front porch, all of them alive. I'll see what else I can find out about it and get back with you later.
UPDATE: One dog has been taken by Ambulance to the Pet ER because of smoke inhalation.
UPDATE #2: I have been told there were only 4 dogs on the front porch. All of them were Terriers. Unfortunately one of them passed away from the smoke, one was taken away by Ambulance and the others will be kept at their local Veterinarian at the Lone Star Veterinarian Hospital down the street from their home. I've been told the owner of the home isn't even aware that something had happened as of yet.
One comment by Bobby Reese was concerning because you're right, these are smaller animals not bred to be out in this kind of cold. I can tell you that the Wicomico Humane Society was on location to assist in any way possible and offered to take the animals until the owner came home. However, the Lone Star Hospital is their normal Vet and they openly offered to take the dogs in.

A Follow Up On Chief Webster & The SPD
Yesterday we posted an article about how angry the Salisbury Police Department Heads were over the fact that we had informed the Public about a robbery at the Bank of America. Several e-mail messages came in to me and all were quite upset about the SPD being so upset because Salisbury News simply informed everyone to protect them. I want to add, on a personal note, (before I show their message) that I had and still have a problem with Chief Webster holding back extremely important information on the murdered prostitute. I sent an e-mail to the City Council, the Mayor and I asked them to forward it to Chief Webster about how I felt based on the fact that I had Intel Information on that case as well as the fact that I had attached a photo of the deceased woman, showing them just how horrific this murder was. An internal investigation started immediately and Chief Webster tried to have me arrested because I has such said information. I did NOT go public with this information but I did strongly suggest that since they knew who the possible murderer was, they did know what car he drove, they knew he had temporary tags, why wasn't the SPD exposing this information to protect EVERY SINGLE WOMAN IN SALISBURY? The only response I got was several Police Agencies confronting me and drilling me about what I knew. Once they confirmed I had broken no laws nor did I step over the line, they chose to walk away from me and move on.
Chief Webster is upset, (and I'm confident he called the person who wrote me) because Salisbury News is regularly getting tips from YOU several times a day. They do NOT want you informed as they feel they can do a better job not letting certain information get out there. Look, this is their profession and quite frankly, I can't challenge that. I should also say, I have shown respect towards that as well but no matter what I say or do, Webster has a bug up his axx for me and he'll continue to challenge me and have me arrested at any opportunity. Webster's obsession over me is so bad, they have an enlarged photo of me on the third floor with a big X through the picture. When a civilian asked why my picture was posted in the Police department they responded, "He's a Cyber Terrorist." That's just wrong Chief Webster but you believe you're above the law. Time will tell.
Nevertheless, this is the message I received in which I thought I'd share. I especially want Chief Webster and his Staff to see what others think out there and understand why so many feel they need to be better informed. The SPD's selective Press Releases, (even though this one hasn't been released still) taxpayers deserve to know what's going on in their community.
"Well then I guess you'll have to watch your back and be a very, very good boy. Screw Webster; people have the right to know when a bank they use on a daily basis is the scene of a crime, and as I said, we need to know NOW, not when (or even if) Webster decides to let us know. As many of the stores in the mall use this bank for their nightly deposits, I went to the mall manager and suggested that he circulate a memo to the mall stores on safe practices when making their deposits, and he's going to do it.
I don't care what anyone says; you may be a bit hard on some people and you may be opinionated, but who isn't? You're a good man, and I would be proud to call you my friend. Have a wonderful New Year, and be good so Webster can't even get you for a traffic ticket!"
I don't care who you are, this is a pretty crappy way to have to live. Many are concerned that I have to watch m,y back all the time, especially from a Police Chief obsessed over one man, ME! Take the damn picture down Webster and get off my back! I offered time and time again to ring the bell with you and show others we can put the past behind us. However, it's your move now. I'm obviously not afraid of you, I've proven that. I've offered to shake hands and move forward, hopefully, together, we can build better communication for the citizens of Salisbury. I just don't get it. They know I'm not going anywhere. Oh well, my offer still stands. If you want to work together and you don't want information getting out there that could be case sensitive, I need a line of communication in which I can confirm it is or it isn't. Right now I have nothing with the SPD. Only Webster can change that.
KATIE C.: WATCH OUT FOR BARRIE T.
Have you noticed it? As her days as Salisbury’s mayor dwindle down to a precious (for her, not us) few, Barrie Tilghman has evolved from full time mayor-CEO of the City to fully-fledged maven of local broadcast media.
On PAC-14 the “30 Minutes with The Mayor” program runs at least 5 or 6 times each week. And “Monday Morning with the Mayor” seems to run every other day as well on a local radio station. Rumor has it that her favorite order in the mayor’s office has become “let Lore do that I’m doing another show today”.
Most episodes of her shows, like her public statements, are “infomercial” in style, filled with personal adulation. It’s easy to recognize her voice if you tune in during an episode; that vocal intonation is unmistakable – a squeaky hinge combined backed by a dental drill. And there’s her excessive self-reference: “I”, “me” ad nauseam.
Could she have a future in broadcast journalism or as a talk show tyro. And wouldn’t it be nice for her to constantly remind the world that she was a really great mayor. The world needs a lot more humor these days.
But here’s a very scary thought – if Comegys is elected mayor next year (that’s scary enough), will PAC-14 have a “Barrie & Bubba” show several times every week?
Are you reading this Ms. Couric? And, are you worried?
Rick Pollitt Wants Your Money ... and Your Vote!
Despite the Louise Smith-esque references to "government in the sunshine", Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt delivered a fine "State of the County" speech on Tuesday. As was to be expected with such speeches, most of the word count was spent giving thanks to myriad groups and individuals as well as "polishing the apple" - telling all what a great job Pollitt and his folks are doing. C'mon, it's an elected office. What else would you expect?
As predicted, Pollitt devoted a portion of his speech to some shirt tearing over the county's revenue cap. You can't blame a guy for trying.
As an opponent, on principle only, of the cap this would normally not bother me. Unfortnately, Pollitt's semi-impassioned plea against the cap is falling on deaf ears in my neck of the woods. Why? Pollitt has displayed a complete lack of leadership on the key issues facing the county while showing a willingness to treat the taxpayers as a "revenue source" rather than what they are - hard working men and women who willingly part with their hard earned money and expect good stewardship from their county leaders.

New Years Resolution
While I don't necessarily agree with New Years Resolutions, that doesn't mean they're not a good thing. I can think of several things I'd like to change in my life over the next year but I started on them weeks ago, such as, losing weight. So far I've dropped 7 pounds and am able to fit into clothes I haven't worn in a couple of years, so that's good.
OK, enough about me. Do you believe in New Years Resolutions?
Will you set one or several this year?
Do you stick to your resolutions?

Pohanka Lays Off 25 Employees In Very Soft Market
I received several messages recently concerning a recent layoff spree by a local Car Dealership who has proven to us at Salisbury News that they do in fact give back big into this community. Pohanka Auto Sales recently laid off 25 people with the hopes that the market comes back fairly soon. My point here is NOT to target just Pohanks, as I'm sure this is going on with every Dealership on the Eastern Shore and throughout the United States. When I contacted Pohanka they responded with the following message. In a separate message they did confirm laying off 25 people.
Dear Joe,
Unfortunately, yes it is true that we have recently laid off a group of people in order to try to remain in line with the market slow down. Most of the people who were let go were hourly employees, i.e. lot porters, mail carriers, etc. Under the circumstances, it was necessary for a few people to be laid off in order to protect the long-term livelihood of our company. During busier times, the people who were let go are definitely a necessity. But during slower times, many of the tasks those employees did can be done by salespeople or other personnel.
We certainly hope that the market gets better and that all of the employees who were laid off can be brought back. As soon as more people start buying cars again, I am sure we will begin bringing them back.
It's going to be a tough year for 2009 in any line of business. I can now say that I have met and have even known several people who work at Pohanka and they do treat their people very well. When I was in business for myself, these were the toughest times of all, having to let people go. Pohanka currently employs about 250 people.
Donating Blood Glucose Meters
I have several brand new, blood glucose (diabetes) meters that I would like to donate to an organization who gives them out at no charge. Do you know of anywhere that might take them?
If not, would you mind posting on your blog? I can be contacted at MAWebster92182@verizon.net
Thanks a bunch & happy new year!

Happy New Year Joe Albero From Sam's Club
While this is a long Post, it's well worth the time if YOU have a Business Account at Sam's Club and other locations including WalMart.
Boy, have I got a story for you that you're just not going to believe. Just when I thought I had told some of the best stuff ever heard, in comes a new one that just boggles the mind.
OK, I have been a Member of Sam's Club ever since the first day they opened their Annapolis Store. Over the years of doing business with them I held a Credit Limit of $2,500.00 for a lot of years. One thing I will tell you is when you own a Restaurant and Pool Halls, it didn't take long to ring up $2,500.00 worth of stuff at Sam's. Nevertheless, that is the limit I said I would go and that's what I did.
OK, so every month I would receive my Sam's Club bill and I would always pay off the balance. Without my even knowing and without any notice whatsoever, my credit limit was dropped down to $1,500.00 and I didn't even know it. So, believe it or not, I would usually have a monthly bill of somewhere close to that $1,500.00 and again it would always be paid off monthly.
Over the past few months I would go to use my Sam's Club Card to purchase gas and sometimes it would deny me? I started thinking, am I paying them slow? I didn't think so but nevertheless, since my Wife regularly relied on using that Card for Gas and other items around the house I would go home, write a check for $1,000.00 and go back up to Sam's and clear up our line of credit. I'd then go out and pump my gas and feel comfortable everyone was good to go.
Well, I have to be the first to admit that each and every month I'd give my Wife a hard time because the Sam's Club balance was always up there and since I wasn't in there buying things all the time, this was a lot, (in my mind) to be blowing in Sam's. Little did I know that they had now reduced my Credit Limit to $900.00 without my ever knowing it. You see, these Credit Companies DON'T like people who pay off their balances every month!
So Get This! A couple of weeks ago I had received a bill from Sam's Club and I took a check to the Store and paid it off right then and there. I owed Sam's Club NOTHING! The next thing I knew my Wife called me that evening and said there was something wrong with my account at Sam's Club. I said, what do you mean? She replied, I just went to charge $140.00 worth of stuff on my Card and they denied me. I said, that's impossible, I just paid off the entire balance the other day. She informed me that she had contacted the credit company and they said I only had $16.00 credit left on the account! She then also informed me that I only had a $900.00 credit limit on the card too.
Well, the $900.00 credit limit wasn't right but I thought, that's cool. This way no one can charge more than $900.00 a month on the card. I asked her if she explained how we had just come into the store and paid off the balance? Yes. Now keep in mind Folks, it's Christmas time and I simply figured my Wife had run up the account again SO I went back up to Sam's with another check for $900.00 I figured that would clear things up. When I spoke with Sam's Club while I was in there paying the bill they too hooked me up with their credit company and they explained what they had already told my Wife the day before. I shrugged it off and went on my merry way.
TONIGHT, we went up to Sam's Club again to get some dog food and so forth and we only had about $40.00 worth of stuff and I said, charge it. She attempted to do so but out of nowhere it came back rejected! I said, THAT'S IT, I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS CRAP. I went over to Customer Service after paying cash for my items and I got everyone to listen to my story about what I had been experiencing. I just knew someone else had been charging to my account. So they called the credit company and explained how they absolutely knew I had been in there several times paying off my card in the past couple of weeks and the next thing I knew they were handing me to phone to explain. WAIT TILL YOU HEAR THIS BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE IT!
The Lady on the phone said, Sir, we are in receipt of your payments and you have overpaid on your account. I said, yeah, hello! I then said, would you like to explain how I have OVERPAID on my account, yet they're rejecting me for $40.00 worth of items? She replied, whenever you pay more than ONCE in one billing cycle, your account gets PUT ON HOLD for 8 days!!!!!! I said, WHAT? You have MY MONEY, I have OVERPAID on this account, all the while thinking and giving my Wife a hard time because she allegedly kept spending money on the account in which I knew I hadn't, all the while you put a hold for at least 16 days on my account because I had paid more than once in one month? YES SIR, that's our NEW POLICY!
I repeated everything she was saying to me so the three people, (including the manager) could hear me. They were all standing there saying, Uh UH! I said, would you mind explaining to the Manager exactly what you're telling me because this is illegal. You can't hold my money for 8 days, then 16 days and then a full month because I paid you more than once in a month! The Manager got on the phone and repeated what I said, word for word and she then freaked out! She said, have YOU told ALL of our business partners of this NEW RULE? The obvious answer was, NO. Would you like me to send this Customer something in the mail? She said, NO! She then said, you made this change and didn't inform Sam's Club? We have customers using a Business Account every week and paying it off the next time they come in. This is completely WRONG!
Now Sam's Club wanted to push it off saying, it's NOT US, it's the Credit Company. HELLO! In one breath I'm a business partner and in the next they're not responsible. I over pay on my account thinking we've maxed out our account and in GOOD FAITH I pay additional funds to make sure everything is cleared, all the while they're taking my EXTRA cash, pocketing it and then penalizing me for paying more than once in a billing cycle. I'm sorry Folks but this is absolutely crazy and more than likely VERY illegal. So I said to the Manager who was still on the phone with the credit company, when can I start charging on my account again to get back all the extra money we paid into the account. She replied, January 1, 2009. Happy New Year Joe from Sam's Club!
People with good credit get screwed because we pay on time or early and we pay off the balance every month. I'm sorry Folks but America Sucks any more! This is what I mean by NO ONE is regulated! There's so much crap going on in America with BILLIONS floating to companies unaccounted for and companies like the credit company at Sam's figures, what are you going to do about it, it's a new policy! How about I take my business elsewhere, that's what! The people at Sam's Club were not only pissed off, they too were floored by what they were hearing. One of the people standing there had seen me come into the store the last 4 times I had brought in checks and knew I was paying on the account. When I came up to the counter she just knew something had to be wrong because I was there for the third time now complaining.
I'm sorry for the long Post Folks but YOU deserve to know this. This is a NEW POLICY at Sam's Club. No one there until today was aware of this situation and or new policy and they were not happy campers! I hope Corporate is reading this message and comes down on the credit company in a BIG WAY. I will send this Post directly to them so they know it has been posted and viewed by thousands of people because I was never warned, nor were they!

Another Candidate Steps Into The Ring For District 1
It has been reported that a Citizen from the Vine Street area has signed up to run for City Council against Shanie Shields. I know of one other person that is seriously considering running in that District as well. Looks, (to me anyway) that Shanie Shields will be toast and some new blood will be representing the Citizens in the very near future. I'm sure you'll be reading more about it in the Daily Times tomorrow.
Michael Petito, JR. Arrested For Sexual Abuse Of A Minor & More
I am just floored on a regular basis just how many alleged child sexual abuse cases there are here on the Eastern Shore. I'm going to leave the rest of this Post open to those more familiar with it in comments. Mr. Petito was recently arrested and held on a $70,000.00 Bond at the WCDC.

New Years Eve Warning
"Hello,
I have to ask you to do something for me. Just tell people in salisbury to be extra careful because i've heard some grumblings about party goers getting targeted on new years eve because everyone goes to the bar with cash. Plus i don't trust just the police to keep the order. Thanks a bunch Joe."

Upper Ferry Closing For 60 Days
Wicomico County Public Works officials announced today that the vessel used to transport cars across the Wicomico River at Upper Ferry will be out of service for 60 days. The vessel will be towed from the site for maintenance work on January 2nd. If weather prohibits towing on that day, the vessel will be towed the first day weather permits during the week of January 5th. The ferry will operate on January 1st.
Officials said that the ferry is due for an extensive overhaul including engine and auto ramp replacement.
Wicomico County operates two ferries that cross the Wicomico River. The White Haven Ferry will continue operating on its normal schedule.
Fernando Guerrero VS. Gabriel Rosado
Ladies & Gentlemen, it doesn't get any better than this! Gabriel Rosado is the guy Fernando was originally supposed to fight in the upcoming ESPN Fight here at the Civic Center in Salisbury. However, the word got out about Fernando's record as well as him fighting again in his Home Town and the fighter backed out immediately. Word was going around that this guy, (Rosado) is very close to a Championship Fight and they didn't want to take the chance of fighting Ferenando Guerrero.
That being said, our guess is that ESPN came back to the table and offered more money so we could ALL see a fantastic fight right here in Salisbury and they took the bait. Fernando will be fighting Gabriel Rosado and if you haven't purchased your tickets you should do so sooner than later.
Salisbury is truly blessed to have a representative such as Fernando Guerrero and Hal Chernoff. They have worked countless hours to provide a safe haven for young children at the Main Street Gym and once they had the opportunity to have enough control over when and where Fernando could fight, they chose Salisbury. It could have just as easily happened in Washington, DC. or even Ocean City. They are bringing it home to you and WE need to show our support.
A Boxer's career only lasts so long and when we've got the opportunity to enjoy Fernando in his prime, well, you get my drift. Let's work together and support this young man. We have readers from UMES, Delaware, PG County, AA County, Virginia, you name it. Come see this guy fight as well as several others and you'll see why they SOLD OUT the last event. Tell everyone your experience from the last fight Folks. One of the biggest things I remember, (besides the brutal ass whooping he gave the other guy) was how loud it was. All I kept thinking was, how are they going to hear this for television? Technology is pretty cool because let me tell you, I saw the fight recently on TV and you could hear the announcers just fine. The other thing I noticed was, there's NOTHING like being there and watching it LIVE!
Here's the information you'll need to purchase your tickets. Believe me, this guy is well worth the trip to see.
To purchase tickets visit www.WicomicoCivicCenter.org, visit the Civic Center Box Office (open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm) or call 410-548-4911 to charge by phone.
Ticket prices are as follows:
1st Row Ringside, $125 plus fees
2nd - 6th Rows Ringside, $100 plus fees
Remaining Floor, $50 plus fees
Side Lower Risers, $60 plus fees

Happy New Year!
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS?
This statue currently stands outside the Iraqi palace,
Now home to the 4th Infantry division.
It will eventually be shipped home And put in the memorial museum in Fort Hood , TX
The statue was created by an Iraqi artist named Kalat, who for years was forced by
Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad ...
Kalat was so grateful for the Americans liberation of his country;
He melted 3 of the heads of the fallen Saddam and made the statue as a memorial to the American soldiers and their fallen warriors.
Kalat worked on this memorial night and day for several months.
To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms.
Do you know why we don't hear about this in the news?
Because it is heart warming and praise worthy.
The media avoids it because it does not have the shock effect.
But we can do something about it.
We can pass this along to as many people as we can in honor of all our brave military who are making a difference.

WEBSTER'S STAFF THROWS ANOTHER FIT?
"Joe, you should be happy to know that less than thirty minutes ago a particular patrol Captain was yelling at staff today at the SPD about this story being posted on your blog before the press release! Keep up the good work and hopefully Salisbury will be better off when the NEW administration can stop worrying about small matters and focus on improving morale of the SPD officers so they can better protect our city."
ANOTHER PAY RAISE FOR SALISBURY'S MAYOR?
(And will it be conceived in secret once again?)
A recent post discussed the double-digit pay raise recently proposed for judges in Maryland during the next few years when most folks, including state employees, will be earning less, possible much less. As incredible as that proposal seems, during the past few years Barrie Tilghman has gotten a triple-digit pay raise as mayor thanks to a salary review committee that she appointed and the City Council that was controlled by the “Dream Team” (Comegys, Dunn and Cathcart) when the proposal was made by that committee and acted upon by the Council in early 2005.
The 150% pay raise proposal was discussed and decided by the committee in secret meetings – held without public notice or knowledge – and its recommendation was not announced by Barrie until after the deadline for filing to run for mayor in the 2005 election. What interesting timing.
It’s now about time for the next salary review and recommendation by that committee. It will be interesting to see whether they propose another pay increase in the mayor’s salary now that Barrie has decided not to run for reelection next year.
And recall that in 2005 Mr. Comegys voted to increase the salary for both the mayor and members of the City Council, and in 2007 he voted for the property tax rate increase (double-digit) to get the funds to pay the higher salary. Would he do that again if the committee recommends another mayoral pay raise?

Seaford Royal Farms
"Joe,
I am wondering how many readers are appalled at Royal Farms for firing the clerk, who was robbed the other night, for having more than $50 in her register. It's my understanding that this Royal Farms has been robbed many times in the past. It makes one ask why they only have one clerk working and why they are doing more to protect their employees. Obviously Royal Farms puts very little value on their employee if they would fire someone for the reason they have stated. I hope the citizens of Seaford, DE rally behind this young woman and boycott the Royal Farms store. If both Seaford Royal Farms are owned by the same owner, I would hope everyone would boycott both stores. I would also suggest the readers take a minute and email their complaint to corporate@royalfarms.com, and let the corporate office know the actions of this store are unacceptable.
Sincerely,
Richard"

ODE TO MY CHILDREN FOR 2009
TO MY CHILDREN: I LOVED YOU ENOUGH....
"Some day when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them. I loved you enough to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home. I loved you enough to insist that you save money and buy something for yourself even though we could afford to buy it for you. I loved you enough to try to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend, boyfriend or girlfriend was a creep. I loved you enough to take the candy back to the store (with a bite out of it) and told the clerk "My child stole this yesterday and I want to pay for it." I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room , a job that would have taken me 15 minutes. I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect. I loved you enough to let you assume responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart. But most of all, I loved you enough to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it. Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too."

Another Salisbury Business Bites The Bullet
Daily Times Editorial - Let's Whine But Don't Allow for Any Solutions
This morning I read the lead Daily Times editorial with some amusement - Flaw Found in Homestead. There is a flaw. Unfortunately, it is not the flaw imagined by the editors of our local paper. The flaw lies in a so-called "homestead tax credit" that allows primary residences to rise in value by as much as 10% per year. In affect, Wicomico County has no homestead tax credit.
Assessments ALWAYS lag. As much as I hate to admit it, Maryland's system of re-assessment is pretty fair and efficient. In many other states re-assessment is done at the whim of the local governing body. You may go 10 years without a countywide reassessment and then you're hit with a re-assessment where your home's assessed value has risen 120%! People are even less thrilled than they are in the not-so-Free State.
If you are a regular reader, you know that I am not a fan of the current Salisbury city government. As much as it pains me to admit, they actually do a few things right. One of those things is a ZERO based homestead tax credit. As it has been explained to me, the assessed value of your home does not rise from the time you purchase it. However, Wicomico County raises your assessment pretty much every year, unless we happen to be in a deep real estate downturn lasting more than three years.
There is a solution. Earlier this year, Wicomico Councilwoman Stevie Prettyman proposed that the county look into reducing the amount a primary residence's assessment is allowed to rise from 10% to 5%. Given that our council includes the likes of Bill McCain - who believes that ANY discussion of tax relief is "ABSURD" - the proposal didn't go very far.
I wonder how far it would have gone had the Daily Times provided some decent coverage of the issue when it came up, rather than merely whining about it now?

It's Going To Be A Slow Day
On Monday I sat at my computer for 10 hours straight working on one single Post for New Years Eve day. Here's the problem. For some reason I thought that was tomorrow. Once I looked at the schedule to date it, DUH! It was supposed to be one of two Posts I had planned on putting up for that day in order for everyone to go to each link and enjoy the Posts. So I screwed up and I don't have much planned for today. Oh well, things happen. You'll just have to pop in every so often today and see what comes up. Sorry Folks but that one Post took a lot out of me. I had to go through almost 7,000 posts to produce it.
Pollitt to Deliver "State of the County"
If you can't get down to the GOB this morning, tune in to PAC-14 and watch Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt deliver his third "State of the County" address. Despite Pollitt's use of the Louise Smith-esque term "Speech in the Sunshine" and the expected shirt tearing over the county's revenue cap, it should be interesting and informative.
The speech begins at 10AM. Get your seat early, or pour another cup of coffee and tune in.

BREAKING NEWS!!! Robbery At Bank Of America ATM
"I always knew that Salisbury was becoming a dangerous place, but tonight it finally hit home. Tonight around 9:30-9:45pm, my mom drove up to the Bank of America ATM on Rt 50 to make a deposit. Apparently when she was about half way through her transaction, someone approached her vehicle out of nowhere and robbed her.
For those people that are not familiar with that bank, there is a large brick pillar that blocks your view behind the bank when you've pulled up to the ATM. The thief must've been hiding behind the bank or the pillar and when she pulled up, he must've come from behind and approached her vehicle from between the pillar and the ATM machine. He was holding what was probably a lead pipe that he was trying to make look like a rifle or shotgun of some sort. The way my mom described it, she said it was silvery and the diameter of it probably makes it too large to be a pistol. It could've been a gun, but likely was a lead pipe or something similar (still a weapon if you ask me).
Anyway, she was so frightened that she couldn't even complete her transaction, so the thief proceeded to work the ATM and withdrew $200 from her account. Once the money came out of the machine, he grabbed it and ran. He jumped over the fence that separates the Bank of America parking lot with the townhouse neighborhood that's right there. Fortunately my mom was not hurt and the thief didn't take her debit card. She pulled ahead and then called the cops and had a police report filed.
The thief was an African-American male wearing a black ski mask, black sweatshirt, and black sweatpants. She said he also appeared to be wearing gloves. Unfortunately, because it happened so fast, she wasn't able to make out any distinguishing features or details, so chances are the guy will never be caught; but we can at least inform people to be especially careful at this and other ATM's after-hours and at night. The guy clearly knew what he was doing since he was able to approach the vehicle without being noticed and he worked the ATM very quickly--chances are this isn't the first time he's done this.
If you could post this so we can get the word out to people to be especially careful at the Bank of America drive-up ATM on Rt. 50--there is especially bad visibility there and plenty of places for someone to hide and sneak up to your vehicle un-noticed. For that matter, be careful at any ATM after-hours or at night, especially in an empty parking lot. I feel fortunate that, aside from being really shaken up, my mom was not hurt, but someone else may not be so lucky.
Thanks,
Concerned Citizen"

Healthy Habits Accepts Food Stamps
Along with staples like bread, milk, and baby formula, we can now add Echinacea, Soy Milk, and a myriad of other non-essentials that can be purchased with food stamps at our local 'Healthy Habits Health Food Store.' Don't get me wrong, I think we all should eat healthy, but not with tax payers' dollars. If you are like me, I only go to the health food store for things I can't find anywhere else and I go knowing that I will be paying top dollar for the specialization a health food store offers. If I deny myself the privilege of shopping high end, why then should I pay taxes that fund food stamps that allow high end purchases like health food items? It is allowances like this that make me deplore our tax payer system.

Media Monday - 081229 A Quasi-Fictitious Year in Review
It seems that Daily Times reporter Greg Latshaw harbors a repressed desire to be a novelist. Gore Vidal, with his gift for mixing a little historical fact with a lot of fiction, seems to be a key role model. How else could explain Sunday's little "Year in Review" piece about the Wicomico County Council?
Not content with his usual mix of biased, selective reporting and "he said, she said" journalism, Latshaw weaves a tale that bears no semblance to the reality that was Wicomico County in 2008. The tall tales begin with his lead:
Not content with his usual mix of biased, selective reporting and "he said, she said" journalism, Latshaw weaves a tale that bears no semblance to the reality that was Wicomico County in 2008. The tall tales begin with his lead:
In a year that began with a flap over pricey pens, Wicomico County Council members agreed to a landmark development agreement, struck down a police labor code law and thoroughly investigated the area's liquor wholesaler. (emphasis mine)The flap wasn't over pricey pens, but about the proper use of the taxpayers' money; along with the arrogance of some who actually claimed that the money wasn't the taxpayers'. The County Council did not strike down a police labor code law. They ENACTED a labor code for the Sheriff's office. County Executive Rick Pollitt vetoed the bill and his veto was overridden. As for the dispensary, there wasn't much of an investigation given that the board members refused to come and answer questions. Documents were only supplied after they were threatened with court action. Read More ...

EMERGENCY ROOM....
The other day, I needed to go to the emergency room.
Not wanting to sit there for 4 hours, I put on my old Air Force fatigues and stuck a patch that I had downloaded off the Internet onto the front of my shirt.
When I went into the E.R., I noticed that 3/4 of the people got up and left. I guess they decided that they weren't that sick after all. Cut at least 3 hours off my waiting time.
Here's the patch. Feel free to use it the next time you're in need of quicker emergency service.
It also works well if you ever have to use a Laundromat.

Maybe this is why American Newspapers are going Bankrupt
Pravda, the Russian newspaper has some very interesting things to say about why American Newspapers are going bankrupt... Is it possibly that they no longer print the truth?
Or at least explore the truth?
Pravda's writer asserts that the job of the media in the US has not been to report the news but rather shape public opinion.
I have written countless articles about the legitimacy of Barak Obama's forthcoming presidency, his campaign, and his relationship with organizations like ACORN, yet when I write these things like most American writers, I have been criticized and accused of being a 'wingnut' or a 'disgruntled angry conservative', or a 'loon'.
Every time the topic of his legitimacy comes up in the MSM it is to ostrasize the individual who would bring it up, and bring further worship and bring homage to the Chosen One.
Now the rest of the world has gotten wind of our 'Constitutional Crisis' and are starting to ask some of these same questions.
It is an absolute shame, that penetrating questions are asked in a Russian? newspaper where there is no 'free press'!
Yet our journalist would be fired for asking such questions!?!
I encourage you to read the article in full on Pravda and also follow the links that are provided.
I am not the only person asking these questions and we all need to be concerned, and I mean really concerned about the ramifications of what every single policy, law, treaty, appointment, pardon etc. etc. would mean if he takes office without putting his eleigibility questions to bed once and for all. Because if he is not eligible, then all of the above will be rendered null and void throughout the world.
"Every American should learn their lesson and never listen to another major media outlet again. Over 30 large newspapers in America are for sale and no takers. Some have cut back on deliveries and some will close. Some of these newspapers have been in business for over 100 years. In less than 10 years of Political Correct “newspeak”, the editors have managed to destroy their companies. The New York Times recently announced that they are seeking a loan against their HQ building which they own 50% of. They need to borrow $250 million. And all they need to do to pay it back is to sell 500 million newspapers. The Major Media writers and smiling faces on TV get paid a lot of money to lie to us, but that should not exclude them from ridicule and contempt from their family and neighbors. It should also not exclude them from fraud charges. What kids would want to play with their kids?
The current President of the United States of America has the opportunity to leave his legacy as the President who preserved the United States of America and its Constitution. All he has to do is to walk out onto the steps of the White House and announce, “If the United States House and Senate, if the US Supreme Court, Federal and State Courts from coast to coast will not respect their sworn duty to uphold and protect our Constitution, I will. By a Presidential Executive Order, signed by me today, Barack Hussein Obama, or whatever his name is, is formally and legally prohibited from becoming the President of The United States. Effective immediately”. That would end all controversy and destroy all threats to the US Constitution. "
Bush refusing to leave the White House was one of the things that was concerning the Left Wingers last year when he signed the extension of the Patriot Act and the Military Commisions Act. By signing these two documents he essentially voided the election process of our Republic.
So what is worse folks, a man who won't leave the office of the President and live under another period of time with this man at the helm, or allow a man who hasn't even submitted the amount of documentation that you or I have to submit in order to obtain a Maryland drivers liscense, or obtain college admittance.
What's worse is now Patrick Fitzgerald has found through court house records that the house that the Obama family lives in, in Chicago that was purchased through a questionable transaction tax bills actually are held in the name of Tony Rezko's attorney.
For those of you not keeping up; Rezko is the slum lord who raised tons of money for Obama who now finds himself sitting in a jail cell on the south side of Chicago awaiting sentencing that has been delayed twice because federal prosecutors are taking him out to lunch everyday so that he can testify about his knowledge of Illinois Gov. Blogo, and now apparently Mr. Obama as well.
America needs to take a hard look at what we really want from the media, and we need to start demanding better.
There is no doubt that until newspapers actually start printing the real stories they will continue to go down.
It is not the job of the media to draw conclusions it is the job of the news media to ask questions and when answers are found to report them. But above all, ask the questions and report the events.
We may not always like what is reported but at least we may get more than one side to the story.
Or at least explore the truth?

It is not the job of the media to draw conclusions it is the job of the news media to ask questions and when answers are found to report them. But above all, ask the questions and report the events.
We may not always like what is reported but at least we may get more than one side to the story.
