Veterinary Hospital’s Hilarious Signs are Wild
To keep customers flocking in, this veterinary hospital turned to one thing: humor. We’re not sure if we have ever been so entertained by advertisements, but we don’t care. The Eau Gallie Veterinary Hospital in Melbourne, Fl, went above and beyond to keep their customers’ tails wagging.

WATCH A 13-YEAR-OLD COUNTRY SINGER BRING EVEN SIMON COWELL TO HIS FEET
Rion Paige may have a different way of spelling her name, but it’s probably one you should get used to. That’s because the spunky 13-year-old country singer brought the “X Factor” judges to their feet Wednesday with her rendition of a Carrie Underwood song.
Besides a solid voice and a special name, Paige is unique for another reason: She has a rare disease that has left her wrist joints deformed and she’s almost completely blind in her right eye. But you’d never know it from her attitude.

PRMC Layoff Announcement
Let's see who gets it closest. Sources have stated there will be yet another big layoff at PRMC tomorrow. While employees have been begging to stop leaving them hanging and let them know if they do or don't have a job, many will get a pink slip tomorrow. What time do YOU think it will happen and how many people do you think will get laid off?
We Can See Clearly Now, GOTCHA!
While our original Post went viral, law enforcement realized very quickly just how well read Salisbury News is and put on their aprons in an attempt to clean off the spray paint on the speed cameras.
In typical form, they then went to OTHER news sources and asked the public to help them solve this crime. Come on Sheriff, get a sense of humor. It seems perfectly OK for criminals to TAG my building in Downtown Salisbury and NO ONE was ever caught.
Take it on the chin for once and hey, I've got an idea, perhaps LISTEN to what people are saying in comments. THEY DON'T WANT THE CAMERAS, PERIOD.

American Citizens Are Fighting Back Against Speed Cameras
Once again we have evidence of yet another speed camera tagging, this time in Fruitland, Maryland on St. Luke's Road.
Several years ago Salisbury News lead the way in exposing all of the tagging that was going on around the City of Salisbury. Back then the local media refused to give any kind of real coverage.
Interesting how when the tables are turned and rather than the TAXPAYERS properties, (most of which cannot vote) this time it's happening to government property, (so to speak). The Police are reaching out to the public to help solve these crimes, yet the dozens of other taggings that have been going on for years have never been solved.
Could this be the beginning of an Eastern Shore mini revolution? After all, even some public officials have stated, Take Your Eastern Shore Back.

After only 15 months, Carla Moore was terminated from her position with the Town of Pittsville Tuesday. While this is a touchy subject, let's just say they're investigating the matter at hand. GOP Bill Would Ban Using Food Stamp Funds On Junk Food
Newly proposed legislation in Congress would ban recipients of food stamps from buying junk food.
The Hill reports that a bill proposed by Rep. Phil Roe, R-Tenn., would require food stamp recipients to purchase only healthy food.
The Healthy Food Choices Act, H.R. 3073 is the latest salvo from Republican members of Congress who have criticized the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps or the Women, Infants and Children program (WIC).
In August, it was reported that House Republicans hoped to cut some $40 billon from future SNAP budgets.
Roe's legislation is specifically in response to a 2012 study, which showed that recipients from the food stamp fund spend approximately $2 billion a year on junk food.

Hospital Cleared In ‘Suicide By Cop’ Case
SALISBURY — The Maryland Court of Special Appeals this week ruled healthcare providers at PRMC could not be held liable for not admitting a man with mental problems, including suicidal thoughts and hallucinations, who was later shot and killed the same day in an apparent “suicide by cop” case.
In April 2009, family members brought Charles Williams, Jr. to PRMC for evaluation over concerns of his mental state after he allegedly was having suicidal thoughts and visual and auditory hallucinations. According to court documents, Williams also believed he was under a curse and exhibited other obsessive and unusual behavior. Williams was examined and evaluated at PRMC.
Although he was lucid and cooperative, Williams told healthcare providers he was experiencing hallucinations and suicidal thoughts. He also told his examiners he believed his ex-girlfriend had put a curse on him and that he experienced blindness when he looked at a text message sent from her while in the emergency room.

Hey Joe,
I was informed that the MDSP are about 16 weeks, four months, behind processing background checks for firearms purchases and can no way meet the 8 day turn around for requests. I hear that there are many guns waiting at gander mountain for pick up… guns people have paid for and are waiting for because the mdsp are negligent in their processing. And when they do “approve” some one, it comes back “NOT DISAPPROVED”…
I plan to ask a sheriff’s deputy to escort me to pick up my purchases in eight days and if I am denied my property, to ask the deputy to arrest the person for a property violation.
Things need to start happening and that is my intent.
I will let you know of the timing of my actions… one week from today.

Western Md. Secession Movement Is A Symptom Of A Serious Disease
A small group of Western Marylanders are pursuing a quixotic secessionist movement that would see the state’s four western counties break away and form a new state. Led by Scott Strzelczyk, the secessionists argue Maryland is controlled by a single party and by folks elected from three jurisdictions — Baltimore City, Montgomery County, and Prince Georges County. Everyone else, they say, is being ignored.
Given that western Maryland is overwhelmingly white and rural, some have been quick to dismiss the secessionist movement as a race-based action motivated by white voters fearful of growing diversity in the state. Though such arguments may hold a kernel of truth, they obscure the more fundamental cause for these movements in Maryland and elsewhere. These intra-state movements are driven by a complex mix of issues that go to the very heart of a representative democracy.

Eastern Shore Struggles With Higher Unemployment, More Business Closings Than Rest Of Maryland
When state Sen. Jim Mathias came to the Eastern Shore 42 years ago, Labor Day marked the end of Ocean City’s season.
Shops would close up, people would leave, and it was deserted.
“It was over,” he said. “To go out and find a sandwich was challenging.”
Gradually, over the years, business leaders helped lengthen the season and the town thrived. But when the recession hit recently, construction crews went away, and even wealthier people who owned a second home on the shore stopped showing up after the summer ended.

Taxpayers Get A Break, Restaurants And Pubs Take A Hit
While there may have been some grumbling about Rick Pollitt jetting off for the far east last week in retrospect it could have saved the taxpayers of Wicomico County a lot of money. It seems as if R P has a big appetite when it comes to spending tax dollars for food.
Hardly a meeting can be held that there's not a lunch or dinner being bought and paid for with taxpayers money. Even a simple stop at Wawa for coffee falls prey to the county credit card.
The restaurants and Pub owners in Salisbury and Annapolis will be scratching their heads wondering what happened to the first week of Septembers receipts. R P s economic stimulation policies mirror those of councilwomen Sample - Hughes who chairs the Tri County Council Sample - Hughes defended the Tri County Councils pub hopping a few months ago as something that helps the local economy, this is what we do and we will continue to do this she stated. Some members of the Wicomico County Council just increased R P s office budget by $10,000 to help with the food bill. Maybe Rick can take those employees from PRMC to lunch before they join the unemployment line.
For further information go to the Wicomico County website click on financial information then click on monthly expenditure reports scroll down to the executive office there are twelve months receipts interesting that they skipped June of 2013 what are they hiding?

Mikulski Supports Military Strike Against Syria
Maryland Senator Barbara Milkulski said on the Senate floor Tuesday, she supports a military strike against Syria.
"Within a few days, the Senate will be called on to vote on whether to give the President of the United States limited authority to use military action in response to Syrian President Assad's use of chemical weapons against his own people," she said. "It is an enormous and grave decision. It is the most serious vote I can take. When a United States Senator is called upon to authorize the use of American military action or military might, it calls for the most sober reflection, the most due diligent analysis of the facts and the compelling need. It is one of the few votes that you cannot take back."
She said many of her constituents are against the decision to strike Syria.

Plenty Of Firefighters, But Where Are The Fires?
As ‘emergency’ changes its meaning, some critics are arguing it’s time to revisit a century-old system
IS THERE SUCH A THING as too many heroes?
Walking past a neighborhood fire station can be one of the most deeply reassuring experiences of city life—a reminder that there are people in our midst ready to pull on their helmets and stride into danger whenever and where something goes wrong.
But as a recent Globe story reported, city records show that major fires are becoming vanishingly rare. In 1975, there were 417 of them. Last year, there were 40. That’s a decline of more than 90 percent. A city that was once a tinderbox of wooden houses has become—thanks to better building codes, automatic sprinkler systems, and more careful behavior—a much less vulnerable place.
As this has happened, however, the number of professional firefighters in Boston has dropped only slightly, from around 1,600 in the 1980s to just over 1,400 today. The cost of running the department, meanwhile, has increased by almost $43 million over the past decade, and currently stands at $185 million, or around 7.5 percent of the city’s total budget.

BREAKING NEWS: Fire Company Funds Restored At Reduced Level
The Berlin Fire Company will receive $200,000 from the town after the Mayor and Council voted tonight to reduce the public funding contribution significantly, according to Staff Writer Travis Brown. The company had been receiving about $537,000 annually. A town examination of the fire company's finances confirmed its solid financial footing and significant reserves, according to the town, and the council feels the fire company can sustain the reduction. Fire company officials say they can't do that and adequately maintain the fleet as they should without dipping into reserves. Full story of the passionate meeting coming tomorrow.

Slim Pickings: Where Are The Local Crabs?
Late summer and early fall could be the best time for a little chicken-necking, catching crabs for a backyard feast.
But where are the crabs? Local crabbers, recreational and commercial, are stunned by the lack of legal-sized crabs in local waters this season.
Edgewater resident George Turner remembers floating along and scooping up doublers of the bow of his boat all day long.
He misses those times.

A Letter To The Editor About Salisbury University Students
Joe: The past two weeks there have been throngs of trashy-looking "scholars" wandering the streets near SU looking for any party they can crash. They've vandalized our picket fence, and pulled a neighbor's post-lamp out of the ground, concrete and all. The police last night told me they are being "hammered" by having to chase these brats all over. And the police told me the students' excuse, when told to go inside or go home is "We don't know when we're going to get shot so we're living for the moment".
I said that's ridiculous self-serving bullcrap. They were roving, making noise, littering, destroying and making asses of themselves before the shooting on Onley Road. Now they think they have an excuse. The cops know it's nonsense, and they told me they are just going to keep the pressure on these spoiled little brats until they get tired of being stupid. Could take a while, and for some of them it's hopeless.
Taxicabs have been cruising my neighborhood looking for fares..something I've never seen before..late at night. They expect the drunks to need a ride back to their dorms or dives so they can pass out til their 3 pm classes. Some of these kids are not even 18 yet..but the cops are at their wits' end in SBY from Thursday to wee hours on Sunday.
I think they deserve a big thank you from all of us who care about this sad little city.

2 Million Bikers Denied Permit To Ride Through DC, Going Anyway
Washington DC has denied a permit request for 2 million Sons of Liberty bikers to ride through DC no-stop on 9/11. So Plan B will go into effect. According to this post from their Facebook page, it will not be a no-stop ride after all. Yes, they are still going, and now it will be an all-day affair.
FINAL DETAILS FROM THE NATIONAL “2 MILLION BIKERS TO DC” TEAM:
Washington DC has DENIED our permit for a no-stop ride through Washington DC. We find this regretful for the residents and businesses of that great city, and humbly offer our apologies. What could have been a one or two hour ride through will now likely be an all day event. We will be obeying all laws. We will be stopping at all stoplights, stop signs, and yielding to all pedestrians.

Fight Or Flight: Theories On Why Marylanders Move Elsewhere
Since officially moving to Florida in May, former Maryland resident Constance Kihm said she has met numerous other former residents of the Free State. They all have their reasons for moving, but hers came down to getting away from higher taxes and from policies she couldn’t stomach.
“Real estate agents I’ve talked with say the exodus from Maryland is astonishing,” Kihm said.
A new book, “How Money Walks” by Travis H. Brown, backs up the anecdotal evidence. Looking at IRS and Census Bureau data, Brown and his team determined that Maryland lost a little more than $7 billion in adjusted gross income due to residents moving away between 1992 and 2010.

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) had some choice words Thursday night for Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), who’s planning to come to the Free State next week with the goal of getting some Maryland businesses to relocate.
“I know from past experience that the gentleman is all hat and no cattle,” O’Malley said of Perry during a pre-dinner reception at a Maryland Democratic Party gala in Greenbelt.
In advance of Perry’s visit, a Texas group has started airing radio and television ads in Maryland knocking O’Malley for raising taxes and inviting Maryland companies to consider coming to a more business-friendly state. Perry narrates the ads.

THIS BOWHUNTING, M16-SHOOTING, SKYDIVING NATIONAL GUARD SOLDIER AND PAGEANT CONTESTANT HAS A SURPRISE FOR THE MISS AMERICA SWIMSUIT COMPETITION
If you haven’t yet found a reason to catch the 2013 Miss America pageant, would getting to know a contestant who’s a member of the Kansas Army National Guard’s Medical Detachment, a big-time bowhunter, and an expert M16 marksman pique your interest?
To say that Theresa Vail proudly tears down Miss America stereotypes more than states the obvious.
She’s also a skydiver, boxer, and a mechanic (or “grease monkey,” as she notes in her pageant video below). A People magazine profile notes that she had to cease motorcycle racing after breaking all the fingers in her right hand, but Vail can still skin a deer and possesses a fab squirrel stew recipe.

Students In One MD County Get New Cellphone Policy
Students in Howard County are getting a new surprise this fall: They no longer have to hide their phones in their lockers anymore.
That's because school officials say it is now OK for them to use their smart phones before school, at lunchtime in the cafeteria, and even in the halls while they're changing classes.
School Superintendent Renee A. Foose told WBAL Radio’s Bill Vanko Tuesday that it simply doesn't make sense for schools to treat using a cell phone like an academic crime.

Colorado Lawmakers Ousted In Recall Vote Over Gun Law
COLORADO SPRINGS — Two Colorado Democrats who provided crucial support for a slate of tough new gun-control laws were voted out of office on Tuesday in a recall vote widely seen as a test of popular support for gun restrictions after mass shootings in a Colorado movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school.
The election, which came five months after the United States Senate defeated several gun restrictions, handed another loss to gun-control supporters. It also gave moderate lawmakers across the country a warning about the political risks of voting for tougher gun laws.
The recall elections ousted two Democratic state senators, John Morse and Angela Giron, and replaced them with Republicans. Both defeats were painful for Democrats – Mr. Morse’s because he had been Senate president, and Ms. Giron’s because she represented a heavily Democratic, working-class slice of southern Colorado.
In an emotional concession speech, Mr. Morse called the loss of his seat “purely symbolic” and defended the record of the last legislative session as “phenomenal.”
“We made Colorado safer from gun violence,” he said afterward, as his supporters trickled away from a hotel ballroom here in his district. “If it cost me my political career, that’s a small price to pay.”

Congressman Harris: I Will Not Vote To Authorize Military Action In Syria
Like many, Congressman Andy Harris, MD has been giving the situation in Syria a lot of thought recently. Last week, he released a statement (below) outlining his thoughts on the authorization to use military force resolution that is being considered in Congress:
“I appreciate President Obama fulfilling his constitutional obligation by seeking Congressional authorization before using military force in Syria. There are serious questions about whether taking military action against Syria is in our national security interest and how the United States should respond to nations around the world who use chemical weapons against their own citizens. The Administration needs to make the case to Congress and the American people why military intervention is needed and clearly state the scope of the planned intervention. The decision to engage militarily is one of the most serious a member of Congress can make, and, although at this point I would not vote for military intervention, I plan to examine all of the evidence before making a decision.“

After attending a classified Members-only briefing last night and much consideration, Congressman Harris has decided that he will not be voting for authorization to use military force in Syria if it is brought before a vote in Congress. He believes that using military force against Syria is not in the national security interest of the United States, and the Administration has been unable to make the case to the American people.
Congressman Harris went on Maryland’s “The Tom Marr Show” and “The C4 Show” earlier today to explain his decision. Audio of both interviews are below along with an official statement

21 Days to Stop Obamacare
Today, thousands upon thousands of patriots are rallying in Washington D.C. to demand Congress Exempt America from Obamacare. Like the President’s special interests and allies, America needs relief from this crushing law.
Supporters of Obamacare say our position is nonsense. Our opponents ignore that big businesses, unions, and Congress have received special treatment. They ignore how special interests are exempt, even temporarily, from this train wreck, but the average American is not.
We must keep up the pressure, everyone. Should our efforts fail to defund Obamacare, we will have lost the last real chance to stop this law. Subsidies and the exchanges take effect. Furthermore, once the rationing, taxes, and high spending in Obamacare begin, the law will be so intertwined with the lives of Americans that repeal will be nearly impossible.
