The Fable Of The Porcupine

It was the coldest winter ever. Many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together to keep warm. This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions. After awhile, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen.
So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth. Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. They learn to live with the little wounds caused by the close companions in order to receive the heat that came from them The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire the other person's good qualities.
The moral of the story is:
Just learn to live with the Pricks in your life!

OH NO YOU DIDN'T!

NOT IN MY TOWN!

Mayor Ireton is furious over this business putting up signage against his demands telling them not to.

Yet its OK to have a xxx sex shop up the street? These back door policies are ridiculous. Look, YOU wouldn't have YOUR car parked out front of this business, would you? So what is everyone so worried about.

The Mayor himself has a unique lifestyle, so why is he such a hypocrite? Do as I say, not as I do.

Wicomico County Is No. 1 In Real Estate Foreclosures

We've been warning you for YEARS now. All of a sudden the Daily Times, (Jeremy Cox) finally produced an article that follows all of our red flags on unemployment and foreclosures.

Here's what bothers me though. Why does the main stream media wait until it's too late?

For many months now we have been sharing, (specifically Wicomico County) unemployment rates while the MSM simply publishes press releases from the County saying how great things are here.

During my campaign, I tried like there's no tomorrow sharing just how desperate things are here. More importantly I shared how to resolve the problem. Jim Ireton put in a kiosk in the foyer of the GOB implying how the City was going to make the process of opening a business easier. Well, where's the follow up article? Is the kiosk still there and is someone manning it?

I feel the responsibility of a newspaper, (of which YOU pay good money for) is here to inform you. They are to keep you ahead of such downfalls and or call it out for what it is and NOT wait for a local Blog to push the issue so far that they finally feel compelled to expose it.

The story they provided HERE is just ONE example of thousands in Wicomico County. Your Mayor and County Executive are NOT mentioned in this article and I believe Mr. Cox failed you by not including them. Their opinion and explanation and vision of how to resolve an issue they have so desperately attempted to hide is irresponsible.

The answer to this massive problem is JOBS! How do you create jobs, well, you don't sit on your rear end waiting for business opportunities to fall into your lap. You take the time to pressure your Governor, Congressmen, Senators, Delegates to encourage the Eastern Shore as a great destination to open or relocate a business. You take the time to go to other communities with a packet showing the advantages of relocating here to Wicomico County.

Ladies & Gentlemen, this is one of the most serious issues that has ever hit our communities. Your leadership is NOT pro active. They cannot speak the language because they have NEVER been in the private sector. You mark my words, this is the beginning of the end for the Eastern Shore. Yes, it is that bad. It's time for some new leadership, period. Do NOT wait until it is too late. We have depended on these people for far too long. You have elected a School Teacher with no business background. Council Members who have filed bankruptcy, living off food stamps and basically YOUR tax dollars. Your taxes have gone UP while your property values have come down. ARE YOU STILL ASLEEP or will you finally take the bull by the horns and finally admit you've made some serious mistakes.

We at Salisbury News have done everything in our powers to WAKE YOU UP.

MARYLAND CONTINUES HISTORIC REDUCTION IN CRIME

Maryland’s total incidents of crime and total crime rate lowest since 1975
Violent crime, homicides and property crime driven down to the lowest rates since 1975
ANNAPOLIS, MD – State officials announced that 2012 year-end crime data compiled by the Maryland State Police and submitted to the FBI for use in the national crime statistics report shows that violent crime, homicides and property crime in Maryland have been driven down to the lowest rates since 1975. Total crime has been driven down 2.9% since 2011, with 5,701 fewer crimes reported. This marks the lowest number of total crimes and total crime rate ever reported in Maryland since the Uniform Crime Reporting program was adopted in 1975.

“Our most solemn obligation is to protect the public’s safety,” said Governor O’Malley. “We've lost too many moms and dads, sons and daughters this year, so we know there's still more work to do. But we should honor the hard work, commitment, and dedication of local, state, and federal law enforcement officials—and community and neighborhood leaders across the State—that drove down crime last year to its lowest levels in recorded history.”

In 2012, together with the hardworking members of Maryland’s law enforcement, the State drove down the number of homicides by 6.5 percent; robberies by 1.6 percent; aggravated assaults by 3.4 percent; incidents of breaking and entering by 6.4 percent; larceny/theft by 1.0 percent; and motor vehicle thefts by 9.8 percent. Rapes increased slightly by 3.3 percent. Eighteen jurisdictions drove down total crime while 14 jurisdictions drove down specific violent crime categories such as homicide, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Eighteen jurisdictions drove down property crimes such as breaking and entering, larceny/theft, and motor vehicle theft.

HAVE YOU BEEN WONDERING WHAT’S HAPPENING ON ROUTE 50?

BERLIN — Work to clear invasive plant species and potentially hazardous trees from a section of Route 50 is moving at a brisk clip, according to State Highway Administration (SHA) officials, and is part of a larger project to unclutter Maryland’s roads.

“It’s an invasive species project,” said SHA representative Charlie Gischlar. “We’re doing it all across the state.”

Locally, that project covers a seven-mile stretch of Route 50 from Friendship Road to the Wicomico County line. Sections of the median are currently choked with non-native plants that are both an eyesore and possibly dangerous if left unchecked, according to Gischlar.

Activists Plan Million Muslim Washington March For 9/11

The American Muslim Political Action Committee (AMPAC) is making its "Million Muslim March" on September 11th in Washington, DC an annual event - complete with conference and
think-tank.

"We American Muslims reject violence and terrorism, and defend the Constitutional rights of all Americans," says MD Alam, founder of AMPAC. "Every year on September 11th, beginning in 2013, we will be marching in Washington DC as we build toward our goal
of bringing one million American Muslims to march in our nation's
capital."

AMPAC's first annual event kicks off this September 11th, as Muslims and non-Muslims join together in Washington, DC for the Million American March Against Fear. "Both Muslims and
non-Muslims have been victimized by the politics of fear," Alam says. "We reject fear and the divide-and-conquer politics it inspires. We want to bring Americans together under the Bill of Rights to work for a better future."

Un-Marrying Maryland

A growing number of western Marylanders are saying they want a divorce from their state.

It’s not that they’re after bitter revolution and bloodshed. But they say they’re fed up with Maryland politics and want a fresh start for Garrett, Allegany, Washington, Frederick and Carroll counties.

The talk of secession is happening on a Facebook page that had topped 620 “likes” by Thursday and featured dozens of postings from Maryland’s dissatisfied customers. A sample from a July 23 posting by the group: “We must come face to face with those in Annapolis who are oppressing us under one party rule. And I say to them as Moses said to the Pharaoh, Let My People Go!”

Do You Feel This Is Too Dangerous?

The Maryland State Police are walking directly onto Rt. 50 to flag down speeders east bound in Berlin.

Report: Later School Start Would Help Economy

Maryland's comptroller on Thursday called on schools to start after Labor Day in hopes of boosting the state's economy, citing a report projecting a delay in beginning the school year could result in an additional $74.3 million in direct economic activity.

The report by the Bureau of Revenue Estimates projected that delaying the first day of school would result in $3.7 million in new wages and a separate $7.7 million in state and local revenue.

"The chance for families to spend precious time together and to build lifelong memories during that final, end-of-summer vacation has been lost by the decision to begin school a week, or even 10 days, before Labor Day," Comptroller Peter Franchot said. "Not only does this cut into the opportunity for Marylanders to spend more time together as a family, but it also has a negative impact on small businesses."

CHRISTIE UNOFFICIALLY LAUNCHES 2016 CAMPAIGN BY RIPPING PAUL, JINDAL

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the next incarnation of a GOP frontrunning presidential candidate who is anything but hard-line on principle, told activists and GOP operatives at a Republican National Committee luncheon on Thursday that his “job was to win.” Christie pontificated:
We are not a debating society. We are a political operation that needs to win. My job is to win. I believe my job is to win. Our job is not to be college professors.
Christie has already criticized Rand Paul, saying Paul’s libertarinan positions were dangerous. At Thursday’s luncheon, he took a swipe at Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who recently said, ”We’ve got to stop being the stupid party. It’s time for a new Republican Party that talks like adults.” Christie responded:

A Comment Worthy Of A Post 8-16-13

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "PRMC Hit With Another Major Blow Against Alleged S...":

Anonymous 10:14

Stop calling people "morons"! The people who are commenting on these posts about the quality problems at PRMC are not pushing for the institution to shut down. But what they are pushing for is a hospital with higher quality care, better doctors and staff, better management and more accountability! There are so many people venting about the hospital because PRMC fails to meet the mark in so many ways. In reality there are not many forums that one can engage in open discussion on this topic. PRMC "owns" this town including almost all the business leaders and certainly all of the media. Maybe the voices of those who comment will be heard by someone of power and influence who actually cares! The hospital, with half a billion dollars in revenue is such a large institution and they use that size to intimidate. But when (if ever) changes are made to improve the hospital it will be in a much better position to truly serve the community not just provide lip service. And Salisbury will be a better place to live.

Rodeo Clowns to Get Sensitivity Training After Obama Mask Flap

Missouri rodeo clowns must attend sensitivity training before they appear at the state fair after one of them wore a Barack Obama mask during a bull-riding event.

The State Fair Commission voted that before the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association can take part in any future state fair it must provide proof that all officials and subcontractors " have successfully participated in sensitivity training," The Washington Times reports.

The event Saturday in Sedalia sparked outrage among politicians on both sides of the aisle after a clown appeared wearing the mask. The rodeo announcer and a second clown asked whether the crowd wanted to see him get run down by a bull.

OC Sees Dramatic Decrease in Pedestrian, Bicycle, Scooter Collisions

Ocean City has seen dramatic decreases this year in three motor vehicle collisions categories. As of August 12, 2013, bicycle, pedestrian and scooter collisions are all down at least 50 percent compared to this time in 2012. Further, there have been zero fatalities thus far in 2013 as a result of any motor vehicle collision in Ocean City.

Pedestrian collisions have dropped 56 percent compared to this time last year. Ocean City police view this as a remarkable success. We credit that success to the “Walk Smart” campaign that was implemented in May in cooperation with the Maryland State Highway Administration, Maryland Highway Safety Office and many other community partners. Because of the success of the campaign, “Walk Smart” partners will soon be working closely with neighboring jurisdictions along the Coastal Highway/Route 1 corridor in Southern Delaware to create a similar campaign. OCPD and each of our partners hope that the “Walk Smart” campaign will not only keep pedestrians in Ocean City safe but throughout Delmarva.

Bicycle collisions are down by 50 percent so far in 2013. An emphasis was put on educating citizens of bicycle safety tips and the statistic shows success. The “Walk Smart” campaign was paired with a “Ride Smart” message specific to cyclists explaining the rules of the road for cyclists.

Scooter collisions have seen the biggest dip in 2013 thus far dropping 68 percent. This drop is due in large part to new registration and insurance requirements for motor scooters that went into effect on January 1, 2013. Ocean City police noticed many safety concerns regarding the large number of scooters on Ocean City roadways and worked closely with state legislators to pass firmer safety requirements for owning and operating scooters. The dramatic drop in scooter collisions proves that this legislation has been a benefit to the town.

While these dramatic decreases in collisions show great success, efforts will continue to be made to educate citizens and provide safety tips. OCPD and all of our community partners are dedicated to keeping the number of collisions down and decreasing the numbers even further.

The policy change was announced in May following a unanimous recommendation from the NFL Committee on Stadium Security. Officials say the new policy will expedite the entry process and bolster safety.

First Dog Bo takes a well-deserved vacation

Americans can go to bed with a story to warm the cockles of their hearts tonight. First Dog Bo has been successfully transported to join the First Family on their well-deserved vacation on Martha’s Vineyard.

Bo was transported from Washington to the island on board a specially modified Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey. For security reasons similar to those of Vice President Joe Biden, President Obama and First Dog Bo cannot travel on the same aircraft, thus making a separate flight necessary.

While some might consider using a $69.3 million aircraft to transport a dog a bit extravagant, it must be pointed out that this was paid for with taxpayer money, not from the First Family’s accounts. Neither President nor Mrs. Obama are spendthrifts and are very careful with the family’s budget.

Muslim Brotherhood Claim: We've Got 'Goods On Obama'

NEW YORK – The son of a jailed Muslim Brotherhood leader in Egypt is claiming his father has evidence that will land President Obama in prison.

The claim came as the Obama administration, with the assistance of Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and the open involvement of the No. 2 man at the U.S. State Department, made a concerted effort to see Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Egypt released.

In an interview with the News Agency Anatolia in Turkey, Saad Al-Shater, the son of imprisoned Muslim Brotherhood leader Khairat Al-Shater, said his father “had in his hand” evidence that will put Obama in prison.

Obama’s Own Drug Use A Backdrop To More Lenient Sentences

President Obama knows something about being a low-level, nonviolent drug offender, such as the kind the Justice Department today exempted from harsh mandatory prison sentences.

In a sense, he was one himself once, although the young Barry Obama was never arrested or charged with a crime.

Obama wrote openly in his 1995 memoir, “Dreams From My Father,” about using marijuana and “maybe a little blow” during his high school days in Hawaii in the 1970s. Biographer David Maraniss reported that Obama was even a pot-smoking trend-setter and leader in the “Choom Gang.”

But decades later, openly reflecting on the “stupid” choices he made, Obama has hinted that his career trajectory could have been different if he had been arrested and charged. A disproportionate number of young African-American men are put behind bars for low-level drug offenses, at 10 times the rate of whites, according to the NAACP.

80 Years Ago, Storm Created Ocean City Inlet

OCEAN CITY — Next week marks 80 years since the epic storm of 1933 ravaged Ocean City, and while the deluge nearly erased the fledgling resort town, the cataclysmic changes left in its wake changed the course of history along the sleepy barrier island forever.

Significant storms have hit the resort since, most notably the March storm in 1962, and Hurricane Gloria in 1985, which ripped up much of the Boardwalk and served as the catalyst for the building of the seawall and the birth of beach replenishment. Most recently, Hurricane Sandy, which brushed Ocean City last October, smashing the end of the iconic fishing pier before moving on to devastate New Jersey and New York, will likely be remembered for decades. However, the 1933 storm has marked the test of time.

In August 1933, the storm battered the Boardwalk and beachfront properties with massive waves, severe rain and hurricane force winds. The streets of the town were already flooded from four straight days of torrential rains when the wind began to blow and the seas began to rise on Aug. 22.

Obama Will Sign UN Gun Treaty While Congress Is On Vacation

BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- You heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. Jay Carney said Obama will sign the UN Arms Trade Treaty “before the end of August…We believe it’s in the interest of the United States.”

This is very strategic timing considering Congress is on a 5 week vacation lasting thru the month of August!

These back door tactics are nothing new for the Obama Administration, which is why we are using tactics of our own to stop his anti-gun agenda. We have the home fax numbers of every Senator so while they are absent from the Capitol we can demand they must not ratify the UN Gun Treaty once Obama signs it.

We CAN stop this international treaty from reaching American soil by killing it the United States Senate. The U.S Senate must ratify an international treaty for it to be effective. They would need 67 votes to ratify the treaty. Reach every U.S. Senator at their home office; tell them you do not want this treaty in OUR United States!

A Letter To The Editor: Wicomico Board of Education

Why is it that the Wicomico Board of Education is always trying to cover something up? This summer the Parkside football team went to the University of MD for their football camp. During their stay the upper class boys hazed the freshmen by pinning them down and acting as if they were raping them from behind (clothes on) One of the freshmen went home and told his parents and they wrote a letter to the University who in turn contacted the school and board. From what I have been told 2 of the boys have been suspended and the Coach wants to take care of it. Is this not something the Board should take care of starting with the Coach? What about the other kids who didn't tell, shouldn't their parents be told? This was a sexual assault and the Board is going to cover it up. From what I was told this type of thing is not uncommon in Wicomico County boys sports.

Men Who Cook!

So here is the question: Can men cook?
Some men don’t consider cooking a worthwhile venture. Aside from the occasional stint behind the grill, many men would rather find something else to do and wait for food to be prepared for them.

Whether it’s because they think it takes too much time, too much effort or just assume it’s a woman’s job, men who never learn to cook could be losing a huge opportunity to take their man skills to the next level.

Some men can fix a car, hunt wild animals and build a camp fire. So, shouldn’t men know how to feed themselves without a drive-thru? Plus, there probably isn’t a woman alive immune to a man who can make her a delicious meal.

A Letter To The Editor: Illegal Revenue Distribution From Speed Cameras-- Wicomico Co.

8-12-13

Apparently you DON`T know there is illegal activity on the parts of the Co. administrators’ office and the Sheriff. Md. & Wicomico statutes are 180 degrees to the manner in which revenue from Civil Citations collected is distributed. The voters should know this as it is another financial burden for them to bear.

The Law says ANY revenue collected from any dept. or HEAD of same shall be deposited in the GENERAL LEDGER ACCOUNT of said county or GO TO THE STATE GENERAL FUND for re-distribution. The BUDGET MONEY struck in and for ANY DEPT. including the SHERIFFS’ DEPT. is the ONLY money any DEPT. HEAD can LEGALLY spend. Pollitt KNOWS this and yet he continues to allow Lewis to flood the Co. with speed cameras to bolster his budget with the Co. Councils’ blessing.

If you want to really investigate miscarriages of justice, use your time and resources for more fruitful purposes and put their business in the street so ALL knows.

A Letter To The Editor: PRMC CEO Pay

I read the DT article regarding Peggy's astronomical amount of pay. I have a few points to make. Peggy's Reduction in Pay:
The article states that over the last year the hospital has seen a drastic reduction in revenue and seen their profit margin cut in half.

The article then states that as a way to compensate, CEO Peggy took a reduction in pay; a whooping $8,000. She went from making $797,000 to $791,000 or a mind-blowing .01%.

How can she be Chief Executive and be at the helm during a time when the hospital saw their revenue and profit margins cut in half (29 million to 14 million) and she only lost .01% in her pay?

The article clearly states that she receives such a handsome salary because the hospital is so successful in profit making, high revenue, recruitment, retention, and patient satisfaction. However, as we all know, the hospital has lost revenue, they have lost profit, patients are NOT happy, and they can't recruit and retain enough employees to fully staff the hospital.

Why does everyone else suffer financially and psychologically while CEO Peggy only gets a .01% reduction in pay?
Charitable Contributions to the Community:
What's the last thing you can remember PRMC, the Board, or Peggy doing to better the community? The answer is NOTHING! And according to the article, the Board and Peggy think that is just fine. PRMC doesn't care about the community.

PRMC claims taking care of patients and employing 3,000+ employees is charity. Dearest PRMC nurse, you are a "charity case" according to your Chief Executive.

Peggy received the 14th highest rate of pay across the state hospitals while PRMC was 4th worst for charitable contributions to the community.

(This is important):
And I will have you know; the majority of "charitable contributions" from PRMC are funded directly by the employees through voluntary payroll deductions and contributions that are rounded up by PRMC and donated solely in the name of PRMC. The charitable contributions are at no expense to PRMC!

PRMC does NOT care about the community. Did you know, if you are there visiting a family member who was just involved in a major car accident and, you spend hours upon hours at your family member's bedside that the hospital will feed you BUT, they will add a $7 fee to your family member's hospital bill? That is completely true.
In closing, PRMC claims to offer an outstanding product by claiming to be the BEST REGIONAL HOSPITAL ON MARYLAND'S EASTERN SHORE. They will throw that around like it is going out of style BUT, did you know, PRMC is the ONLY regional hospital on Maryland's Eastern Shore? (The other hospitals on the Eastern Shore are NOT considered REGIONAL hospitals. They are called community hospitals.)

PRMC claimed to be one of the best 100 hospitals in the country BUT, did you know, PRMC had to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to say that. They PAID HealthGrades to say that.

The Junior Board at PRMC claims to operate solely to raise funds for the ER. I beg you to ask an ER employee, where has the Junior Board money gone? Their answer will be, "I don't know!" Simply because, it doesn't go to the ER!

Did you know that people, companies, and organizations do make charitable contributions to PRMC? Did you know that every penny (and then some) is spent on paying Peggy's salary? They move money around and say the money is going to upgrading the Operating Room or Emergency Room BUT every single penny that is donated to PRMC by the people who live and work here is ALL spent on paying Peggy. PRMC received $173,000 in contributions, Peggy received $797,000 in pay. EVERY penny donated went into Peggy's pocket!
The bottom line: Peggy only sees PRMC as a way to line her pockets with cash. She doesn't care about the community or charities. Regardless of what the article says, her pay is not based on performance. And finally the employees and patients are NOT happy.
Save your money, save your life, do not make PRMC your choice for healthcare.
Sincerely,
I'm going elsewhere

Baltimore Councilman Wants City Boycott Of Florida; "Stand Your Ground" Bill Proposed In Maryland

A few weeks after a Florida jury acquitted neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, Baltimore City Councilman Nick Mosby wants the city government to stop doing business with firms in Florida.

Mosby is hoping an economic boycott will convince Florida lawmakers to repeal the state's "Stand Your Ground" law, which was partially the basis for Zimmerman's defense.

Mosby told Maryland's Morning News says the boycott follows the more than 100 protests that were held nationwide after the verdict.

EASTERN SHORE MEMBERS WORKING TO WIN FAIRNESS ON THE JOB

AFSCME 3 members on the Eastern Shore are Making Our Voices Heard. We packed room at our Central Labor Council meeting with Delegate Norm Conway.

AFSCME members from the Holly Center, Deer’s Head, ECI and Dorchester County DHMH urged Delegate Conway to use his position as Chair of the House Appropriations Committee to improve working conditions for public workers across the state.

ECI employees John Baker and Debbie Williams expressed deep concern that DPSCS Secretary Gary Maynard is not acting quickly to investigate and hold accountable security managers who failed officers in inmate on staff attacks at correctional facilities around the state. Conway agreed to set up a meeting with correctional officers, DPSCS heads and himself on the Eastern Shore to hear concerns and brainstorm solutions.

Holly Center worker Debbie Coles said, "Holly Center leadership isn’t focused on patients, but on how the facility looks on the outside, and favoritism runs deep with discipline not given equally for equal acts. The Chairman agreed to use his position to set up a similar meeting with Holly Center staff and management to address these concerns.

Former College Football Player From Maryland Charged With Rape

Four former Vanderbilt football players have been indicted on five counts of aggravated rape each of an unconscious 21-year-old student at a campus dormitory in June.

Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson credited Friday's indictment to the painstaking work of detectives from the sex crimes unit and an electronics expert from the department. Nashville detectives even traveled to Palm Desert, Calif., for several days in late July working with the Riverside Co. Sheriff's Office in California to collect evidence.

"Their investigation has uncovered compelling, unsettling evidence that was presented to the Davidson County Grand Jury earlier today," Anderson said in a statement.

Safety Cory Batey, 19 of Nashville, Tenn.; defensive back Brandon Banks, 19, of Brandywine, Md.; receiver Jaborian "Tip" McKenzie, 19, of Woodville, Miss.; and tight end Brandon Vandenburg, 20, of Indio, Calif., also have been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery for an incident tipped to campus officials by surveillance video. Vandenburg also is charged with one count of tampering with evidence and one count of unlawful photography.

Controversy Over Clown's Obama Mask At Missouri Rodeo

A clown wearing a President Obama mask appeared at a Missouri State Fair rodeo this weekend and the announcer asked the enthusiastic spectators if they wanted to see "Obama run down by a bull."

The antics led the state's second highest-ranking official, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, to denounce the performance in a tweet Sunday. He said it was "disrespectful" to the president.

"We are better than this," the Republican tweeted.

WHY DOES THIS BEACH BUM SPEND YOUR TAX DOLLARS SO HE CAN SURF, DRINK, AND SCORE ‘FREE FOOD’ YEAR ROUND? BECAUSE ‘IT’S AWESOME’

San Diego beach bum Jason Greenslate has a front-row seat watching your tax dollars at work…mainly because that’s about all that’s breaking a sweat in his world.

His schedule?

“Wake up, go down to the beach, hang out with my friends, hit on some chicks, start drinking,” Greenslate told John Roberts of Fox News for “The Great Food Stamp Binge” special Friday.

Though he attended college and trained as a recording engineer, Greenslate prefers bunking rent-free in dwellings of his friends, family, and occasionally girlfriends, not holding a steady job, and jamming on some tunes while barbequing lobster and noshing on sushi “all paid for by our wonderful tax dollars.”

Greenslate, 29, gets $200 monthly from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (a.k.a. SNAP).

Tenn. Judge Changes Infant's Name From 'Messiah'

NEWPORT, Tenn. (AP) -- A judge in Tennessee changed a 7-month-old boy's name to Martin from Messiah, saying the religious name was earned by one person and "that one person is Jesus Christ."

Child Support Magistrate Lu Ann Ballew ordered the name change last week, according to WBIR-TV. The boy's parents were in court because they could not agree on the child's last name, but when the judge heard the boy's first name, she ordered it changed, too.

"It could put him at odds with a lot of people and at this point he has had no choice in what his name is," Ballew said.

It was the first time she ordered a first name change, the judge said.

The Big Dig @ PRMC

How many workers are needed

to dig a hole at PRMC?

A Messsage From The Facebook Page of Governor Jan Brewer

Last night just before going on his summer vacation, Obama DENIED federal assistance for the Yarnell fire that destroyed more than 120 homes and claimed the lives of 19 firefighters.

LIKE if you are outraged by Obama's misguided denial to help Arizona citizens after this tragedy.

Here's my full statement regarding the President's denial:

I am deeply troubled by the Obama Administration’s decision to deny much-needed recovery assistance in the wake of Arizona’s deadliest wildfire. This designation would have provided critical aid to citizens most impacted by the fire.

The State of Arizona continues to mourn this tragedy, which took the lives of nineteen of our bravest first responders. While no amount of federal assistance could ever ease the pain of such an extraordinary loss, it would have provided significant financial relief to Yarnell and Peeples Valley. Local residents are under enough emotional stress as they work to pick up the pieces and put their communities back together. Wondering how or if they will recover their losses should be the last of their worries.

In the days after the fire, I appreciated the call I received from President Obama, during which he pledged to support our state during its time of great need. I was even more encouraged when Vice President Biden reiterated that commitment at the memorial service for the fallen Granite Mountain Hotshots. With today’s denial of the state’s request, Arizonans are left questioning what help they were willing to give.

I was hopeful the federal government would recognize the exceptionally devastating circumstances surrounding this tragedy, and support Arizona’s request.

I will review our options regarding an appeal of this misguided decision. I will continue to do everything in my power to assist in that effort.

Rest assured, that is a pledge that will not be broken.

America's Educational Madness

Imagine you were the CEO of something called "American K-12 Public Schools" and it was the annual Board meeting. With everyone assembled, the firm's Chief of Research distributed this one-page "progress" report (Chart prepared by Andrew Coulson of the Cato Institute and derived from the US Department of Education "Digest of Educational Statistics," and NAEP tests, Long Term Trends, 17-year olds):
