WOW! Just wow
ReplyDeleteWOW! Are there any openings? I need to get a job there!
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow. This is truly amazing. No wonder high taxes in o.c. Need more parking meters to pay these huge salaries. This is a 4 month a year town. Truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteThats approximately $8,924,307
ReplyDeleteAnd for all those libbies who are in the private sector. Do you think your taxes are going to support both their pensions and the payrolls?
ReplyDeleteIf you think of course, then I ask you, how much do YOU make?
Then do the math.
These people are worth every penny!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we wouldn't need to spend all of this money on police salaries if the party atmosphere wasn't encouraged in ocean city.
ReplyDeleteLet's see one of these charts for our less than fair city.
ReplyDeleteSalisbury.
Holy Crap--sign me up for the "Golf Superintendant"
ReplyDeleteYou better worry about Salisbury, the recent "study" included Ocean City. That's how theirs increased, a "study" was done. It's called a pyramid scheme. Butterball Dare will live with this legacy.
ReplyDeleteThey earn it. For 5 or 6 months a year they work harder than their peers do in a year in any other city in MD.
ReplyDeleteI don't begrudge them a penny of it. And yes. I am in the private sector.
ReplyDeleteAni't crap you can do or will do about it, just sit right back and take it up the *&^%$
ReplyDelete2:33 - How much are you willing to give up of your paycheck to fund the public? You are already losing about 70% of your income in taxes.
ReplyDeleteha i am a starter at oc golf course and make 80 000 a year salary . work 7 months then off 5 months. you forgot me on your list...
ReplyDeleteI remember reading in one of the local papers a while back about the Ocean City Convention Center director. He was leaving to take the same job in Tampa Bay. Tampa has over 500,000 people and close to 750,000 uf you count the surrounding areas. They also have two professional sports franchises and they hosted the republican national convention. The funny thing about the article is that the Ocean City director took a pay cut to move to Tampa Bay. These salaries are out line.
ReplyDeleteRECREATION/PARKS DIRECTOR @ $140,321.75. They have northside park and a few other small parks in town. What does he do for that kind of money. This is obscene.
ReplyDelete2:33 I am in the private sector too. I was just in city hall a few weeks ago. I felt like I was at the DMV. You should go see the energy level for yourself. They wouldn't last long in the private sector.
ReplyDeleteThis is really obscene!
ReplyDeleteYulp----agree---these salaries are definately way out of line!
ReplyDeleteThe Fireman & Police in California, Arizona, Chicago,NY etc, where fires are almost an every day occurance & crime rate extremely high deserve every penny they get---These locals do not!!
Would b interesting to post the salaries for these same people in some the above "High Risk "States.
Anybody got info to send in on this---also a comparisom of people in these areas ---vs population in Worcestor Cty.
Perhaps Wicomico would be the better comparisom rather then Worcestor.
I had to call an official for some information on docks and bulkheading. Had to speak to the person in charge of this. Left 4 messages never a call back. Later I had mentioned this to a builder and he knew the person and said that didnt surprise him as he did the same thing with everyone.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is a perfect example of Government jobs being paid more than the private sector. What do you think hotel and restaurant managers make in Ocean City. Not enough to get on this list. This is terrible for the taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteEveryone on this list PAYS TAXES, just like the rest of you. They pay their own salary.
ReplyDelete6:01 a good example was the director of convention center leaving for Tampa Bay and taking a pay cut. These guys/gals got it made. Doesn't count their benefits and retirement.
ReplyDeleteThe person that was in the waste/water department recently retired. He was making $120,000 a year. He now gets half of that for life. That's 60,000 in retirement pay a year. Assume he lives another 20 years. you do the math that's 1.2 million he will make in retirement. On the backs of ocean city taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteI heard someone on the top 5 on this list just took a 3 week vacation. What person in Ocean City can take a 3 week vacation at the end of July into August. C'mon it's the middle of the summer. The busy season in Ocean City. I guess when you make that much you can take a 3 week vacation any time you want.
ReplyDelete6:33. The locals have a homestead credit. Their taxes are lower than the out of town property owners. Look it up. It's the out of town owners that pay the high taxes. If they only knew how they are getting screwed. Heck they can't even vote and these people want to keep it that way. Also, many of these overpaid workers have their McMansions outside of Ocean City so they pay no city taxes.
ReplyDeleteAnyone buying in Ocean City that doesn't live here should think twice. High taxes, High condo fees, high gov salaries & flood insurance rates that are going to skyrocket. You can't rent a condo to cover these expense let alone a mortgage payment. You will not be able to give these away. Oh and not to mention if you haven't been in town this summer it's deadsville.
ReplyDeleteInstead of being a waiter i should have been a cop.
ReplyDeleteTell me again how poorly paid cops are...
ReplyDeletethis is outrageous!!!
6:01. Good points but alot of the places you mentioned are going bankrupt because of the government salaries and pensions. I don't know how O.C. can sustain this into the future. Maybe they can build more condos for more tax revenue. Anyway, I heard the mayor is a realtor and represents developers.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is a realtor. He listed the following projects back in the mid 2000's real estate boom/bubble. Mariners Watch, Sailors Watch, Coral Seas & Bella Vista. Never put his name on the sign but he cashed the commission checks. Hundreds of thousands. Oh, and the developer of these projects also owns the Sunsations stores. Tell me that's not a conflict of interest. All why being paid to be Mayor.
ReplyDeleteThese salaries are way out of line. How did this happen who let this happen.
ReplyDelete8:06. I would say it was Dennis Dare that did this. When he was city manager he enabled these salaries to skyrocket along with his. Now he's retired getting a huge pension and on the city council. Ocean City you are screwed again.
ReplyDeleteUnions caused police and fire/emt salaries to go through the roof. Emt's making 6 figures in o.c. that's crazy.
ReplyDeleteFor all of you "haters": Ocean City MD is not just a "town", it's a BUSINESS, unlike ANY other city in this state. There is NO WAY you can compare any salaries of OC to any other town in Maryland.
ReplyDeleteWait....Sorry.... IF you happen to live somewhere that gets over a quarter-of-a-million visitors in your town for 10+ weekends a year, then talk to me.
I live in OC...I'm a taxpayer...(I DO NOT work for the town)...and I have NO problem at all with the salaries listed.
Someone should look up what the Chief of the fire department and the Chief of Police earn in cities such as Orlando; Tampa; Savannah; Key West; and other resort destinations pull down each year.
Gimme a break....These people EARN their money and deserve every dime!
August 12, 2013 at 11:24 PM
ReplyDeleteSo they earn and deserve these large salaries for working 10+ weekends with large numbers of people?
What do they do the other 300+ days of the year?
That dump of a town is a ghost town in the off season. Unless you locals are so rowdy they need to control you guys 24/7 they don't earn anywhere near these large paychecks.
But anytime money is involved, corruption is right there also.
And that is the real reason behind this.
Don't worry, a few Winter bus drivers will be cut because the Town can't afford night service anymore.
ReplyDelete4:48: Here's what you obviously don't get: Public service and private sector in this "dump of a town" (I'm wondering what paradise you're living in. Salisbury?) work harder in 6 months than any comparable position in any town or city in this state does in a year.
ReplyDeleteDon't think I don't know what I'm talking about... I retired from Public Works in a northern county in MD. I know what we did...and I see what my peers do in OC. Personally, I would never want to work that hard - even with "relaxing" for a few months during the off-season.
"Corruption" in this town? Ridiculous. But I will give you this: There IS a sort of old boy network - but I defy you to name a town anywhere that doesn't have one.
All that I can relate to, is that in 1970 I started as a patrolman for $75 a week.
ReplyDeleteHalf a million dollars for recreation department when you have a world famous beach? Come on man. Sell the golf course to a private operator, lease the park facilities to a fee based use, that includes skate park, and you save a half a million, plus you get pure revenues in return.
ReplyDeleteUntil these buffoons are paying 100% tax, they are not "paying their own salaries".
