Georgetown, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a crash involving a car striking a moving train.
The incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. Thursday February 5, 2015 as 45 year old Lewes man was operating a 2003 Hyundai Sonata westbound on Park Avenue (US9-Truck Route) approaching the railroad tracks east of South Bedford Street. A northbound Norfolk-Southern train with two engines and 79 cars attached was already crossing the roadway with the flashing red signals activated, when the Sonata failed to stop in time. The vehicle struck the wheels of one of the train cars causing the vehicle to spin clockwise and travel off the north side of the roadway where it struck and sheered a telephone pole before coming to a stop. The locomotive and its cars were able to come to a stop without derailment just north of Park Avenue.
The 45 year old male was properly restrained and uninjured in the collision.
None of the personnel on the train were injured in the collision.
Troopers are continuing their investigation into this incident and charges are pending on behalf of the vehicle operator. Park Avenue between South Bedford Road and Cedar is currently closed while electrical crews reset a pole and the train is inspected.

Environment Committee Members Co-Sponsor Manure Solution Bill
(ANNAPOLIS, MD) — Alison Prost, Maryland Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), issued this statement today following introduction of SB 257 by lead sponsor Senator Paul Pinsky which codifies in legislation a common-sense and science-based solution to a crisis on the Eastern Shore caused by too much chicken manure. On his first day in office, Gov. Hogan pulled pending regulations that would have accomplished the same goal as SB 257. That action prompted over 3,300 CBF members and friends and counting to send more than 15,000 messages telling Gov. Hogan and Maryland leaders, "Don't Backtrack on the Bay."
Seven members representing a majority of the Senate Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee were among the 14 co-sponsors of SB 257. Delegate Stephen Lafferty on the House Environmental and Transportation Committee is the lead sponsor in the House of Delegates and will be introducing the cross-file of SB 257 in the coming days. Many other senators and delegates of the Maryland General Assembly already have voiced support for the bill.
"Maryland legislators of both political parties have a history of joining together to support practical solutions to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams in Maryland. We're cautiously optimistic this initial wave of support to reduce agricultural pollution will continue to grow.
"Maryland farmers have done a lot to clean up the Bay and our local waters but science tells us agriculture needs to do more if we are to reach our clean up goals. No one is asking farmers to do more than their fair share.
"The Maryland Department of Agriculture estimates 228,000 tons of excess poultry manure is applied each year on Eastern Shore fields. The excess poop ends up in our water. In fact, we are not seeing improvement in many Eastern Shore rivers. In at least one, phosphorus pollution levels are going up. Scientists offered a tool to help farmers apply the correct amount for their crops so that excess manure would not end up in our waters. Gov. Hogan pulled that tool before it could reach farmers. The legislature can now ensure farmers have access to the resources they need to correct this pollution problem so that all Marylanders enjoy cleaner water.
"The cost of this solution can be shared. The state has offered to increase subsidies to farmers to help with any financial impacts from implementing the tool. CBF believes the large poultry companies also should play a role. There are also new technologies waiting in the wings to take what is currently a source of pollution (manure) and turn it into a valuable commodity, bringing new investments to our farm economy. Farmers also can help themselves by using conservation measures such as cold weather cover crops that help curb excess phosphorus in manure."
"This legislation will be a long term win-win for both farmers' bottom lines, and the health of polluted Eastern Shore rivers such as the Choptank, and the Bay. Less poop on our farm fields means less pollution in the water resulting in safer swimming areas, more fish, crabs and oysters. "
The lead sponsors of the Senate and House bills issued these statements:
"Neither the Chesapeake Bay's water quality nor its rich bounty will improve with kind words. It will take action. The largest contributor to the deadly quantity of phosphorous entering the bay is agricultural runoff, largely resulting from spreading unnecessary levels of chicken manure. We need to measure this over-saturation and reduce it. Anyone opposing these efforts makes them part of the problem rather than part of the solution." —Senator Paul Pinsky
"Maryland has been a leader on environment issues, but we are behind on this issue, and falling further behind each day we delay. Phosphorous from the application of litter as a fertilizer is increasing in our farm soil. That is detrimental to all who enjoy the waters of the state." —Delegate Stephen Lafferty

Laid Off IT Workers Must Train Foreign Replacements
Information technology workers at Southern California Edison (SCE) are being laid off and replaced by workers from India. Some employees are training their H-1B visa holding replacements, and many have already lost their jobs.
The employees are upset and say they can't understand how H-1B guest workers can be used to replace them.
The IT organization's "transition effort" is expected to result in about 400 layoffs, with "another 100 or so employees leaving voluntarily," SCE said in a statement. The "transition," which began in August, will be completed by the end of March, the company said.
"They are bringing in people with a couple of years' experience to replace us and then we have to train them," said one longtime IT worker. "It's demoralizing and in a way I kind of felt betrayed by the company."
SCE, Southern California's largest utility, has confirmed the layoffs and the hiring of Infosys, based in Bangalore, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Mumbai. They are two of the largest users of H-1B visas.

If You’ve Downloaded One of These Apps, Your Android Device Could Be at Risk for the Next Big Security Threat
If you’re an Android user who likes to try new apps, your smartphone could be at risk for the next big security threat.
The Prague-based antivirus provider Avast says it received a tip earlier this week that certain apps available on GooglePlay might be infected with malware. Filip Chytry, an analyst with Avast, wrote in a post on the company’s blog Tuesday that upon first glance it didn’t seem like anything extraordinary – but then he took a deeper look.
“First of all, the apps are on Google Play, meaning that they have a huge target audience – in English-speaking and other language regions as well. Second, the apps were already downloaded by millions of users and third, I was surprised that the adware lead to some legitimate companies,” Chytry wrote.

After a Deal to Sell Some Stores, RadioShack Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
For years, RadioShack — the retailer that helped bring personal computers to the masses — outlasted untold predictions that it would buckle in the face of bigger rivals and online competitors.
But its clock has finally run out.
RadioShack, a long-ailing 94-year-old electronics chain, filed for bankruptcy protection on Thursday after striking a deal to sell up to 2,400 of its stores to the wireless service provider Sprint and a hedge fund that is its biggest shareholder.
The Chapter 11 filing, made in federal bankruptcy court in Delaware, took few unaware. RadioShack had not turned a profit since 2011, and its fate had been a regular topic of speculation in the retail and corporate restructuring circles.
“The surprise is that they survived this long,” said Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities. “I didn’t think they’d last through Christmas 2013.”

Assateague Island Celebrates the Big 5-0!
Berlin, MD -2015 marks the 50th anniversary of Assateague Island National Seashore and we invite everyone to the party! Stay tuned for activities each month of 2015. Please check our website www.nps.gov/asis for highlights and “like” us on Facebook at AssateagueNPS. We look forward to a golden anniversary celebrating with our friends and neighbors all year long!
Assateague Island was identified in a 1934 survey by the National Park Service and Department of the Interior as one of 12 areas along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts suitable for a national seashore recreation area. Consequently, numerous bills supporting establishment of the national seashore were introduced annually to Congress but with no action taken. In 1943, the Fish and Wildlife Service, another federal bureau interested in Assateague, and the Department of the Interior established the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge on the Virginia end of the island. In the intervening years, most of the Maryland portion of Assateague was purchased for private development. Residential construction, road and infrastructure development were well underway, including a failed attempt to build a bridge to the island. Interestingly, on multiple occasions the state of Maryland proposed creation of a state park on Assateague without result. Then, in 1956, the developer adeptly donated 540 acres to Maryland in exchange for creation of a new state park and construction of a bridge. March 6, 1962, a powerful storm hit Assateague, overwashed the island and destroyed most of the development’s roads and structures. This infamous “Ash Wednesday” storm provided an unexpected opportunity for the Department of the Interior to acquire the remaining portion of Assateague Island as a national seashore.
Assateague Island National Seashore was officially established September 21, 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Most of the Maryland district is managed by the National Park Service as Assateague Island National Seashore. The State of Maryland manages two miles of the Maryland district as Assateague State Park. The Virginia district is managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service as Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. The National Park Service operates the Toms Cove Visitor Center and a recreational beach within the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

Gallup CEO Exposes Obama 'Big Lie'
In a scathing attack on what he calls the government’s “extremely misleading” unemployment statistics, Gallup Chairman and CEO Jim Clifton publicly affirmed what many have known for a long time: The federal government’s economic statistics, including unemployment, are grossly and intentionally misstated for the purpose of making the economy appear better than it is.
“There’s no other way to say this,” Clifton writes on the Gallup website. “The official unemployment rate, which cruelly overlooks the suffering of the long-term and often permanently unemployed as well as the depressingly underemployed, amounts to a Big Lie.”
Decrying all the “celebrating from the media, the White House and Wall Street about how unemployment is ‘down’ to 5.6 percent,” as well as the “deafening” media cheerleading of the Obama administration, the chairman of one of the biggest and most respected names in polling says the government, media and wall street – all of them – are lying to the American public.

Republicans Weigh How Far To Push On DHS Funding
For weeks, House and Senate Republicans have rallied behind a Homeland Security spending bill that defunds President Obama’s executive actions on immigration.
But Senate Democrats blocked the measure on Tuesday, triggering what will likely be a tough debate within the Republican conferences about how far to challenge the president using the congressional power of the purse.
“I’d like to go toe-to-toe with Obama,” Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark. “It’s a worthwhile fight, because what the president has done is blatantly unconstitutional.”
For Boozman and other conservatives in Congress, defunding Obama’s executive actions on immigration is a “must have” in any new legislation to fund DHS.
The debate over what to do next threatens to fracture the newly-minted GOP majority in Congress.

Maryland Health Advocates Push Increase In Tobacco Tax
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Supporters of a tax hike on cigarette packs are hoping the higher price will also increase healthier living.
The Healthy Maryland Initiative is set for a hearing Wednesday before a Senate committee. The proposed legislation would increase the state’s tobacco tax by one dollar per pack.
Advocates for the bill say the additional revenue could help fill gaps in health care coverage for pregnant women and contribute dollars toward overall public health care needs.
The bill is being proposed by Sen. Rich Madaleno, a Montgomery County Democrat.

11-Year-Old Packs Big Surprise for Home Invaders
Rule number one for any child: Never talk to strangers.
But an 11-year-old Lapeer County, Michigan, girl went above and beyond the call of duty, and her heroic actions may have saved her from harm during a home invasion last week by two hardened criminals.
The girl had arrived home from school, but her parents were not yet back from work. She noticed a strange van pull into the driveway of her family’s home in North Branch Township about 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 30 and sprang into action. She did not start by answering the door.
One of the two strangers in the van got out and knocked on all the doors. The girl ran and hid in her bedroom and could hear the man pounding on the doors outside. When there was no response, he forced his way inside the home.
The girl called her parents, who instructed her to get her shotgun out of the safe and hide in the closet in her locked bedroom.

Officials: Coast Guardsman shot 2 colleagues, ambushed cops
CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY/AP) — A search warrant is being executed in Chesapeake Thursday afternoon in connection to a local Coast Guardsman who authorities said shot two colleagues and ambushed police officers in Massachusetts.
Authorities allege 31-year-old Adrian Loya, of Chesapeake, shot two female coast guard personnel in Bourne, Ma. It happened around 2 a.m. Thursday at a Cape Cod condo where the two women lived. After the shooting, Loya allegedly lit a car on fire to block Bourne police from entering the complex and then ambushed the officers with gunfire.
Massachusetts police said they couldn’t get to an officer who was hit and bleeding for about 15 minutes. Loya was eventually cornered and cuffed.
The series of events left one of the women dead and the other woman and the police officer wounded. Their names haven’t been released.

How much did Democrats dislike Hogan's speech? A lot
Democrats took issue with Hogan's tone, his characterization of Maryland and its economy, and that in his first formal address, he gave what sounded like a campaign speech instead of acting like cheerleader-in-chief.
Republicans, meanwhile, were effusive in their praise of a governor they said delivered straight talk, even if it was hard to hear.
Below is a sampling of the best zingers and one-liners offered by Maryland lawmakers in reaction to Hogan's State of the State. Since Democrats outnumber Republicans by big margins in both chambers of the legislature, there's a few more Democrats on this list than Republicans.

New allegations of Saudi involvement in 9/11
Washington (CNN)New allegations have emerged from the man described as the 20th 9/11 hijacker, alleging members of the Saudi royal family supported al Qaeda.
Zacarias Moussaoui, who pleaded guilty in 2005 to six terror-related charges, makes the allegations in a sworn statement contained in a brief submitted Tuesday as part of an ongoing civil case by the families of 9/11 victims.
In the late 1990s, Moussaoui says, he was tasked by Osama bin Laden to create a digital database cataloging al Qaeda's donors. Every day for two or three months, he says, he entered names of the group's donors into a Toshiba computer, along with how much they gave.

Russia says drivers must not have 'sex disorders'
Russia has listed transsexual and transgender people among those who will no longer qualify for driving licences.
Fetishism, exhibitionism and voyeurism are also included as "mental disorders" now barring people from driving.
The government says it is tightening medical controls for drivers because Russia has too many road accidents.
"Pathological" gambling and compulsive stealing are also on the list. Russian psychiatrists and human rights lawyers have condemned the move.
The announcement follows international complaints about Russian harassment of gay-rights activists.
In 2013 Russia made "promoting non-traditional lifestyles" illegal.

Accused murderer Matthew Burton returns to Delaware for trial
Accused murderer Matthew Burton has exhausted his appeals in Maryland and has been extradited to Delaware, paving the way for him to stand trial for the 2012 slaying of Nicole Bennett.
Carl Kanefsky, spokesman for the Department of Justice, said Burton is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution. Attorney Dean Johnson of the Delaware Public Defender’s Office has been assigned to represent Burton.
Jurisdiction in the case became an issue because Bennett's body was found off a rural road in Worcester County, Md., but Delaware and Maryland State Police later determined the crime took place in Sussex County.
Bennett's father-in-law, Bob Bennett, said, "We're thankful it is finally moving forward. It's been two-and-a-half years. We just want justice."
Then-Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley signed Burton’s extradition back to Delaware in Oct. 2013; Maryland withdrew charges against Burton, who will be charged in Delaware with first-degree murder and failure to reregister as a sex offender.

DESHAUNE D. DARLING CONVICTED OF DRUG AND GUN CRIMES
On February 5, 2015, Deshaun D. Darling (D.O.B. 2/27/76) of Salisbury, Maryland, was convicted of the following charges by a Wicomico County Jury: Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm with a Nexus to a Drug Trafficking Crime, Transport a Firearm During a Drug Trafficking Crime, Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm, Wear, Carry, Transporting a Handgun, Obliterating Serial Number on Firearm, and Wearing or Possessing Bulletproof Body Armor During and in Relation to a Drug Trafficking Crime.
The charges against Darling stem from a traffic stop conducted by the Maryland State Police Gang Task Force on September 4, 2014. Officers obtained additional evidence against Darling after executing a search warrant on a residence in the county.
Darling will be sentenced once a Pre-Sentence Investigation is completed. The Defendant’s bond has been revoked and he is being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center until sentencing. Darling has been convicted in other jurisdictions for Wear, Carry Conceal Dangerous Weapon (Dorchester County) and Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Marijuana (Kent County, Delaware).

Fed fires back at Rand Paul
The Federal Reserve is lashing out at Sen. Rand Paul’s plan to give Congress more oversight over the central bank, a proposal that could gain traction in the new Republican-led Congress.
The Kentucky Republican reintroduced his “Audit the Fed” legislation last month with 30 co-sponsors, including other potential 2016 GOP hopefuls, Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Marco Rubio (Fla.).
The proposal — once championed by his father, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) —would subject the central bank to an audit by the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
Regional bank presidents from around the country are decrying the plan, which they argue could damage the economy.

Obama Versus America
In his recent trip to India, President Obama repeated a long-standing pattern of his — denigrating the United States to foreign audiences. He said that he had been discriminated against because of his skin color in America, a country in which there is, even now, “terrible poverty.”
Make no mistake about it, there is no society of human beings in which there are no rotten people. But for a President of the United States to be smearing America in a foreign country, whose track record is far worse, is both irresponsible and immature.
Years after the last lynching of blacks took place in the Jim Crow South, India’s own government was still publishing annual statistics on atrocities against the untouchables, including fatal atrocities. The June 2003 issue of “National Geographic” magazine had a chilling article on the continuing atrocities against untouchables in India in the 21st century.

Do You Own Your Body?
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie unwittingly ignited a firestorm earlier this week when he responded to a reporter’s question in Great Britain about forced vaccinations of children in New Jersey by suggesting that the law in the U.S. needs to balance the rights of parents against the government’s duty to maintain standards of public health.
Before Christie could soften the tone of his use of the word “balance,” Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul jumped into the fray to support the governor. In doing so, he made a stronger case for the rights of parents by advancing the view that all vaccines do not work for all children and the ultimate decision-maker should be parents and not bureaucrats or judges. He argued not for balance, but for bias — in favor of parents.
When Christie articulated the pro-balance view, he must have known that New Jersey law, which he enforces, has no balance, shows no deference to parents’ rights and permits exceptions to universal vaccinations only for medical reasons (where a physician certifies that the child will get sicker because of a vaccination) or religious objections. Short of those narrow reasons, in New Jersey, if you don’t vaccinate your children, you risk losing parental custody of them.

UPS to apply surcharges to residential packages after costs surge
(Reuters) - United Parcel Service Inc (UPS.N) said on Tuesday it will start applying surcharges for residential packages this year after its costs soared during the recent disappointing holiday season.
UPS also reported that fourth-quarter profit fell from a year ago but forecast earnings within the range of estimates.
UPS, the world's largest package delivery company, warned in late January it would report a fourth-quarter profit below its forecast and market expectations.
The Atlanta-based company had mobilized more workers and equipment for an anticipated surge in holiday packages, but the extra business failed to materialize. The additional costs primarily affected the company's domestic ground package unit.

State Chief Justice: Don't Bend to Feds on 'Gay' Marriage
Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore is going to the wall to oppose a ruling from U.S. District Judge Callie Granade ordering the state to impose same-sex “marriage” on its residents, contending in a letter to state judges that she has no constitutional authority to do so.
Granade ruled the state’s definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman was unconstitutional. Then she refused to extend a stay on the ruling, ordering the state to start imposing the social change on citizens soon, after the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals declined to intervene.
As the state attorney general submitted an emergency request for a stay to the U.S. Supreme Court, Moore was drafting instructions to judges on how to handle a federal judge’s decision that violates the state constitution.
A letter obtained by WND from Moore to his probate judges was resolute.
“Lower federal courts are without authority to impose their own interpretation of federal constitutional law upon the state courts,” it stated.
“Furthermore, they have absolutely no legitimate authority to compel state courts to redefine marriage to include persons of the same sex. Not only is the Mobile federal court acting without constitutional authority, but it is doing so in a manner inconsistent with the Eleventh Amendment to the United States Constitution.”

Dick Morris: Scott Walker Could Win
Scott Walker is the only ambidextrous candidate in the Republican field. He appeals equally to the Republican establishment and the Tea Party/evangelical wingers.
All other candidates fit neatly in one or the other box. While Jeb Bush’s record in Florida used to make him the most attractive member of his family to conservatives, he has blown that accolade with his strong support for immigration amnesty and Common Core.
Chris Christie was never the darling of conservatives, but his appeal to establishment Republicans is obvious.
Neither Bush nor Christie is a switch-hitter.

Homeland Security Threatens Consequences If Funding Bill Isn’t Passed
WASHINGTON — Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson released a statement Tuesday night saying that any “politically charged amendments” in the DHS funding bill “that attempt to defund our executive actions on immigration reform” would result in consequences.
Johnson warns that if DHS were to be funded by a short-term funding bill known as a “continuing resolution,” the department would not be able to fund “new non-disaster grants to state, local and tribal governments, law enforcement, emergency response officials and fire departments.”
Secretary Johnson said that some state, local and tribal government activities, including counter-terrorism equipment and gear in major metropolitan cities, would be cut the department runs on a short-term funding bill.

County 911 operator reassigned after telling caller to 'stop whining'
An Anne Arundel County 911 operator has been reassigned after telling the daughter of a man who'd just been hit by a car on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway Sunday night to "stop whining" as she frantically pleaded for help.
The man later died.
The operator has since been placed in a position where he won't have any contact with the public, said county fire department spokesman Capt. Russ Davies. An investigation into the call is underway.
"The 911 dispatchers are trained to take control when they get a hysterical caller," Davies said. "However, he certainly used a poor choice of words. That 911 call did not meet our expectations of how we wanted that call handled and it didn't meet the public's expectations of how that call should have been handled."
Davies did not identify the operator.

"Dr. Jean Dodd, a veterinary hematologist and immunologist in greater Los Angeles says annual vaccines began to be prescribed in the 1950's...Back then, she says, drug companies got together with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and decided without any scientific test to support their position that vaccines should be administered once a year. Florida calls on civilian 'patrols' to battle invasive pythons
Florida wildlife officials, opening a new front in the war on invasive snakes, are recruiting the general public for "python patrols" that teach them how to identify and even capture some of the hissing, snapping reptiles.
"We consider (Burmese pythons) established, which means the hope of removing them is pretty slim," said Jenny Novak, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) biologist, during a recent training session with 20 volunteers in south Florida. "We're in management mode now."
On Sunday the volunteers spent an hour in a classroom learning how to distinguish between invasive and native snakes and how to safely capture and contain them.
Later, the group moved outside where coiled up pythons were released and volunteers used poles to pin their heads, sometimes with mouths agape, to the ground. They then grabbed the snake at the base of its head and carefully maneuvered it into a bag sealed with electrical tape.
"I'm not that worried about her," said Mark McCarthy, 63, as his daughter, 29-year-old Keeley Philbrook, readied to grab hold of a five-footer (1-1/2 meter).

Gov. Scott Walker Proposes Drug Testing, University Cut
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker wants to require drug testing for those seeking a variety of public benefits, dramatically cut funding to the University of Wisconsin System and greatly expand a private school voucher program under a budget he delivered Tuesday that comes as he takes more steps toward a presidential run.
The budget serves as the basis of the Republican's second-term agenda as governor and is the last one he will introduce before the 2016 presidential campaign. It gives Walker a chance to bolster his resume as he continues to add staff, travel to key primary states, meet with donors and make other serious moves for an expected White House run.
Republicans control the Wisconsin Legislature, which should ease passage of the budget, likely sometime in June. But Walker is meeting resistance from some Republicans over the $300 million proposed cut to UW, which comes with a tuition freeze but more freedom from state laws and oversight, as well as a plan to borrow $1.3 billion to pay for roads and infrastructure.

Selma star slams Oscars for rewarding only 'subservient' black roles
The star of Selma has slammed the Oscars for rewarding only 'subservient' roles for black cast members in films.
David Oyelowo, 38, plays Martin Luther King Jr in the film which charts the American civil rights leader's three month campaign in Selma, Alabama, in 1965 to persuade President Lyndon B Johnson to introduce the Voting Rights Act, protecting African-Americans' right to vote.
Oyelowo spoke out at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival after he was snubbed for an Oscar nomination for his role despite being lauded by critics.
'Generally speaking, we as black people have been celebrated more for when we are subservient, when we are not being leaders or kings or being in the center of our own narrative, driving it forward,' he said.

NBC's Brian Williams admits that Iraq war bravery story is a lie
NBC news anchor Brian Williams has been forced to admit that he wasn't aboard a helicopter hit and forced down by enemy fire during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
The Nightly News anchor has often repeated the war story over the past 12 years about how the aircraft he was on was forced down by enemy fire.
During a report on Friday, Williams went further and said that the aircraft he was on had actually been hit - a claim that quickly prompted denials from soldiers who were present.
On Wednesday, Williams apologized during his NBC Nightly News bulletin and said that he was 'mistaken'. Later that evening he didn't seem too worried about the furor as he enjoyed a New York Rangers game with his good friend Tom Hanks.

Shoot first: Columbine tragedy transformed police tactics
GOLDEN, Colorado (AP) — The first officers on the scene had never trained for what they found at Columbine High School: No hostages. No demands. Just killing.
In the hours that followed, Americans watched in horror as the standard police procedure for dealing with shooting rampages in the U.S. proved tragically, heartbreakingly flawed on April 20, 1999.
10 YEARS LATER: Myths debunked, the real story behind Columbine
Two officers exchanged fire with one of the teenage gunmen just outside the school door, then stopped — as they had been trained to do — to wait for a specially trained elite police team. During the 45 minutes it took for the elite team to assemble and go in, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot 10 of the 13 people they killed that day.
The killers committed suicide around the time the makeshift elite team finally entered. But the elite officers took several hours more to secure the place, moving methodically from room by room. One of the wounded, teacher Dave Sanders, slowly bled to death.
"It was really frustrating," said Marjorie Lindholm, a grief counselor and speaker at police training seminars. Lindholm was a 16-year-old student in a science classroom where two classmates used their T-shirts to try to stanch Sanders' bleeding. "We were told 'They're on their way, they're coming."'
Ten years later, Columbine has transformed the way police in the U.S. deal with shooting rampages.
After the tragedy, police across the country developed "active-shooter" training. It calls for responding officers to rush toward gunfire and step over bodies and bleeding victims, if necessary, to stop the gunman — the active shooter — first.

Netanyahu Sees Ratings Boost Despite Obama Tantrum
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has enjoyed higher approval ratings the last month ahead of his planned speech in front of a joint session of the United States Congress next month.
President Barack Obama was miffed at House Speaker John Boehner's decision to skirt the White House and invite Netanyahu to speak on March 3. The White House, along with other Democrat lawmakers, have voiced their opposition to Boehner's tactics.
The White House said Obama will not meet with Netanyahu when he is in Washington, a move seen by some insiders as a not-so-subtle shot to the Israeli leader. But Netanyahu has seen his approval rating spike to 51 percent, up from 46 percent a month ago.
If Obama had any intention to deflate Netanyahu ahead of Israel's March 17 election, Jennifer Rubin writes for the Washington Post, the opposite rang true.
"If President Obama intended to damage Netanyahu back home by throwing a fit over the House invitation for him to speak, it surely did not work as planned," writes Jennifer Rubin. "The effort instead reveals just how woefully ignorant — or indifferent — Obama is about the region, about Israel and mostly about his own image."

Republicans Proposing Vote on Obamacare Alternative
Republicans have vowed to be ready with a replacement for Obamacare if the Supreme Court pokes a hole in the signature law later this summer, and will vote in the House Tuesday to both repeal the law and to give themselves a mandate to find the replacement.
Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy tasked a working group of three committee chairmen — Reps. Paul Ryan of Ways and Means, Fred Upton of Energy and Commerce and John Kline of Education and Workforce — to look at a patchwork of GOP proposals and replace Obamacare with “patient-centered” reforms.
Although Republicans haven’t laid out a singular plan, their discussions have focused on scrapping insurance mandates and putting in place provisions that promote individual responsibility for health costs, such as the use of tax-advantaged health savings accounts.
The House group and a parallel group led by Republican Sens. John Barrasso of Wyoming, Orrin G. Hatch of Utah and Lamar Alexander of Tennessee are hoping the Supreme Court, in a decision due by June, strikes down Obamacare’s subsidies in 34 states that rely on the federal exchange, giving GOP reforms an opening.
“We want to make sure the American people know we’re going to be there to help people who are being harmed by the law,” Mr. Barrasso said in a phone interview.

Sen. Cornyn on Loretta Lynch: 'I Oppose Nomination' Over Amnesty
Texas Sen. John Cornyn said Wednesday that he would oppose Loretta Lynch's nomination as attorney general, becoming the third Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee to cite her support of President Barack Obama's amnesty orders in withholding his support.
"I will oppose that nomination," Cornyn said on a conference call with Texas reporters, The Dallas Morning News reports. "While she has an impressive record as a United States attorney, she will become the chief advocate for the president’s policies as attorney general.

D.C., Md. lawmakers advancing ‘Death with Dignity’ measures
WASHINGTON (WJLA) – The high-profile decision by Brittany Maynard to end her life last year due to a terminal illness generated national headlines. Now, it appears the so-called Death with Dignity laws she promoted are gaining momentum. New legislation is being considered in several states, including Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Oregon and four other states have enacted such laws. Meanwhile, campaigns promoting them are underway in California, Colorado and several East Coast states.
In Maryland, Sen. Ronald Young (R-Frederick Co.) plans to file such legislation in the next few days.
In D.C., a similar bill is already pending. Council member Mary Cheh said the Death with Dignity Act she introduced last month would not allow euthanasia or even doctor assisted suicide.

Panel: Unlike Obama, Jordan's King Shows Leadership in Terror War
The execution of two Iraqi jihadists by Jordan as punishment and revenge for the Islamic State (ISIS) burning alive a 26-year-old Jordanian pilot captured by the terror group shows how seriously King Abdullah takes the threat, a far cry from the lackluster response shown by President Barack Obama, according to Texas Rep. Kevin Brady and retired military commanders Paul Vallely and Derek Harvey.
The three men appeared in a joint panel on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum" on Wednesday as they upbraided Obama's handling of the war on terror and his weak and wavering strategy.

An amazing clip. The drone has changed the entire concept of war that most of us have not fully realized. This is at night – in the dark.
What level of sophistication without collateral damage. Even the mules & donkeys are spared . (plus the tents with women and children)
A must view 15 minute clip by US forces a few nights ago.
There are a bunch of fellows there that missed breakfast. Note how clear the bad guys are seen - great advantage in this type of war.
And the guy behind the camera and guns is not even flying! USA forces attacking ISIS at night.

Let's face it - English is a crazy language!
There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neitherapple nor pine in pineapple.
English muffins weren't invented in England or French Fries in France.
Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.
We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly,
boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?
If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices?
Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?
If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?
Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?
You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why when the stars are out they are visible but when the lights are out they are invisible.
P.S. - Why doesn't 'Buick' rhyme with 'quick'?
You lovers of the English language might enjoy this…
There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is 'UP'.
It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report ?

We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver; we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.
And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.
We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost ¼th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more.
When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP! When is rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP.
When is doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.
One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so… it is time to shut UP!
