Use-By Date Confusion Is Making Us Waste Millions Of Pounds Of Food Every Year

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Use-by dates and expiration dates aren’t strict mandates designed to save you from the brink of gastrointestinal hell, they’re more like guidelines. A new report from the Natural Resources Defense Council and Harvard Law School’s Food Law and Policy Clinic says American are chucking millions of pounds of perfectly good food in the midst of expiration date confusion. That’s quite a waste.

Just because the expiration date is on food doesn’t mean the food itself expires at the stroke of midnight on the date and turns into something unsafe to consume, notes Time.com. Food dating exists to indicate the freshness of the food, when that product will be at its peak. Can an expired food make you sick? Yes, but usually not immediately upon the date indicated.

Atomic Bomb Nearly Exploded Over North Carolina In 1961, Report Says

The U.S. Air Force nearly detonated an atomic bomb over North Carolina in 1961 that would have been 260 times more powerful than the device that destroyed Hiroshima, according to a declassified report published Friday in The Guardian.

The 1969 document, obtained by investigative journalist Eric Schlosser under the Freedom of Information Act, details the Jan. 23, 1961, B-52 crash near Goldsboro, North Carolina, that saw two Mark 39 hydrogen bombs break up in mid-air.

The Daily Pravda Wrong Again!

Dateline: Daily Pravda story regarding the “class of 1963” states this was the largest class in Wico’s school history. Wrong; my class of 1965 was the largest class. Pravda screws up once again...

UPDATE: I should have stated in original email that Stump took the story from a few of the members of class of 63. he just didn’t fact check. there are other facts that are wrong as well. for instance the comment regarding Parkside as one of the reasons that class was “the largest”. Parkside wasn’t in the picture at that time; only Bennett in 66.

PRMC Lays Off Another 58 People

It has been confirmed that an additional 58 people lost their jobs today at PRMC.

Letter To The Editor - PRMC 9-19-13

Joe,

It seems to me that PRMC has robbed the healthcare system from years. According to Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission, PRMC has had a decrease in inpatient funds while their outpatient funds have steadily increased.

It seems to me that they were habitually admitting patients that didn't need inpatient hospital care. Those patients who were billed for inpatient care could have most certainly received outpatient care.

The new healthcare laws prohibits hospitals like PRMC from gouging the healthcare system's seeming never ending source of American taxpayer money. Up until now PRMC was able to admit patients for unwarranted reasons and rake in the money to essentially line the pockets of their executive staff.

Rest assured, if you have a "worthy" reason for hospital admission, you will be admitted, but now, if you were admitted previously for an inessential reason, you will be sent home to tend to your needs while receiving outpatient care (as it should have always been).

It's taken the burden off of the American taxpayer. I am thankful of the new healthcare laws. I am thankful that greedy hospital CEO's, like Peggy, can no longer rob my paycheck to line her pockets and pad her off shore bank accounts by providing fraudulent "health care".
Respectfully,
PROUD Democrat

‘IS THIS AMERICA?’: PARENT ‘MANHANDLED’, ARRESTED WHILE SPEAKING OUT AGAINST COMMON CORE AT PUBLIC FORUM IN TOWSON

A parent in Towson, Md., was arrested Thursday night at a public forum after vocally expressing his concerns about the Baltimore County School District’s plan to use Common Core standards in its curriculum.

Robert Small, a concerned father, was forcefully removed from the meeting by a police officer after he interrupted Baltimore County Schools Superintendent Dallas Dance during the question-and-answer portion of the forum.

The meeting apparently didn’t allow parents to stand up and ask questions or comment. Parents and other attendants were instead asked to write their questions on a piece of paper and officials would read them.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON PRELIMINARY AUGUST JOBS REPORT

ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 20, 2013) – Governor Martin O’Malley today issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Labor’s release of preliminary employment data for the month of August:"Last month, Marylanders created 9,700 new jobs. Together, we have now recovered 100 percent of the jobs we lost as a result of the national recession. Today, there are 43,300 more Marylanders working than this time last year, and our unemployment rate has been driven down to 7 percent, below the national rate.

"Today’s jobs report also reaffirms the strength of Maryland’s dynamic private sector. Over the past 12 months, our businesses have created 37,800 jobs -- nearly 9 out of every 10 new jobs created in our state.

"As we reach this milestone in Maryland's economic recovery, we must remember that our work is not done. We need to continue our work building an economy that creates even more middle class opportunities, and creates prosperity for Maryland from the middle out.”

Muir Boda Announces County Council Campaign

I am taking this moment to officially announce my Candidacy for Wicomico County Council At-Large.

I love Wicomico County and I am proud to say we are one of the 100 Best Communities in the Country in which to live. We have so much to offer people who are looking for a great place to live, work, worship, learn and play. My purpose and my goal in running for County Council is to ensure that we remain one of the 100 Best Communities and there are several key issues we need to address to keep that status.

I am putting forth the Wicomico Initiative, a five point plan to take our County and Region to the next level. These five issues are key to addressing many of the problems which threaten our way of life and I am committed to working with all municipalities, Law Enforcement, the business community, our educational system, civic groups and those elected with me to County offices to strategically implement this initiative.

The five key issues we need to focus on are Reducing Crime, Education, Economic Development, Defending the Revenue Cap and Protecting Property Rights. Though there are more issues that will need to be addressed throughout this campaign, these issues are key in setting the foundation on which I stand and will remain standing on many issues.

I certainly understand that I alone cannot implement policy direction and legislation. It will take the Council as a whole in cooperation with the County Executive and all public servants in Wicomico County and its municipalities to do what is right for Wicomico County. It requires us to put aside political differences and egos, for that is the greatest hindrance to progress.

Join me and send a message on Election Day to our leaders to stand with us in protecting our way of life. If you would like more information on my campaign please visit our website at boda4council.us.

At-Large Candidate for Wicomico County Council

Solar Activity Drops To 100-Year Low, Puzzling Scientists

LONDON: Predictions that 2013 would see an upsurge in solar activity and geomagnetic storms disrupting power grids and communications systems have proved to be a false alarm. Instead, the current peak in the solar cycle is the weakest for a century.

Subdued solar activity has prompted controversial comparisons with the Maunder Minimum, which occurred between 1645 and 1715, when a prolonged absence of sunspots and other indicators of solar activity coincided with the coldest period in the last millennium.

Is PRMC Actually Offering Money To Employees Not Talk To The Press?

Last night I received word that people were publicly talking about PRMC offering $3,000.00 to certain employees not to talk to the press. Could this be true?

We also heard that PRMC may be downgrading their Trauma Certification in order to save additional money by not having to pay Doctors "on call".

Blame it on Obamacare or poor management, should the pattern continue and any of the above come true, PRMC is in deep trouble.

SBYNews called this out many months ago and so far all we have exposed has happened. Reliable sources have stated the Hospital is losing some $2,000,000.00 (+ or -) a month. We exposed their management asking employees to give up vacation days in order to avoid layoffs, yet the layoffs came anyway very soon after. We've exposed the salaries of executives and some even gave evidence of PRMC's plans to spend $2,000,000.00 a month in upgrades and new construction. Funny how those numbers, (future expenses vs current losses) match.

The bottom line, can you provide the same care to your customers when your cutting back, let's hope so. There are many quality and dedicated Doctors and Nurses on staff and the negative impact to the Eastern Shore is going to be huge.

If there was ever a time when your Mayor should be holding a Press Conference, this is it. Reassure the Public Jim. PRMC pays NO TAXES as a Non Profit. The taxpayers should expect their Mayor to sit down with PRMC and find out just how bad this will impact our local economy. Its called being PROACTIVE.

A Letter To The Editor 9-19-13

Hey Joe,

Cory Williams, from gander mountain, has requested that I allow 16 days to pick up my purchases, not the required 8 that Maryland law requires. He states that it is company policy to wait 16 for release per his legal team, and if it is before the OCT 1st deadline, that the purchases will be released. If it is not before the OCT 1 deadline, his company will not release them.

But he will only release them if I have purchased a gun within the last year… which I think I have, but feel it shouldn’t matter. this is still in violation of my constitutional rights and I still plan to hold gander mountain responsible if I do not get my purchases, a fact I will pass on to Cory when I see him on Thursday at noon…

He has said they are processing through august right now and plan to be making calls for September soon.

If you know of anyone who has been waiting for a gun purchase from gander mountain, let them know they are welcome to accompany me on Thursday at noon, to confirm the date their purchase can be picked up… though I am a firm believer that all of these waiting periods are in direct violation to “shall not be infringed.” I will wait til the 16th day before rocking the legal boat.

Just an update and I plan to be there on Thursday at noon.

The Real Lesson Learned From Monday's US Navy Yard Tragedy

Allen West
The real lesson learned from Monday's US Navy Yard tragedy is that we have turned our military installations into gun-free zones, a free-fire area for an attacker. As in Ft. Hood, once an assailant breaches the perimeter security checkpoint they are in a target-rich environment of unarmed and defenseless uniformed service members and civilians. A Clinton-era Executive Order made this possible, so now what should be the safest place is in fact a kill zone. Let us not forget that 30 years ago 238 Marines lost their lives in Beirut because the ROE did not allow them to have weapons loaded, even at the security checkpoint. The response times at Ft. Hood and the Navy Yard were 10 and 7 minutes respectively...and in both cases the assailants were shot by civilian law enforcement, not military. Our enemies are watching.

“The American people are sick and tired of the corruption that is destroying America! We therefore declare a GENERAL STRIKE on the weekend of October 11-13, 2013! Truck drivers will not haul freight! Americans can strike in solidarity with truck drivers!” the group’s description reads.

Media Buries Psychiatric Drug Connection To Navy Shooter Alex Jones

Networks don’t want to risk losing $2.4 billion in ad revenue from pharmaceutical giants

Despite every indication that Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis was on SSRI drugs that have been linked to dozens of previous mass shootings, the mainstream media has once again avoided all discussion of the issue, preferring instead to blame the tragedy on a non-existent AR-15 that the gunman didn’t even use.

We now know that Alexis “had been treated since August by the Veterans Administration for his mental problems.”

As Mike Adams points out, “This is proof that Aaron Alexis was on psychiatric drugs, because that’s the only treatment currently being offered by the Veterans Administration for mental problems. Alexis’ family members also confirmed to the press that he was being “treated” for his mental health problems. Across the medical industry, “treatment” is the code word for psychiatric drugging.”We now know that Alexis “had been treated since August by the Veterans Administration for his mental problems.”

Ritrovato went on to explain that two of them had a close relationship based in part on their differences, specifically race and politics. Alexis was black, Ritrovato is white. Ritrovato described himself as conservative and Alexis is "more of a liberal type" who supported Barack Obama:

Republicans And Black People

Republicans are wrong to ignore black voters in the way that they do. I don’t think it’s a hopeless cause for them, and even modest inroads into the black community could tip elections the GOP’s way.

Sure, African Americans have been resistant to changing their allegiance. The task for the GOP seems impossible. But I’m not really aware of much of an attempt by Republicans – particularly presidential candidates – to go into black neighborhoods with a consistent message explaining why conservative principles work for African Americans and others who have a disproportionate number of low-income earners in their ranks.

Gas Prices Surpass $3.00 per Gallon for 1,000 Consecutive Days in Longest Streak Ever

The national average price of gasoline will surpass $3.00 per gallon tomorrow for the 1,000thconsecutive day for the first time on record, according to AAA. The current streak began on Dec. 23, 2010. AAA forecasts the national average will remain above $3.00 per gallon for at least another thousand days barring a major economic recession.

“Paying less than $3.00 per gallon for gasoline may be automotive history for most Americans, like using 8-track tapes or going to a drive-in movie,” said Bob Darbelnet, President and CEO of AAA. “The reality is that expensive gas is here to stay, which is tough on millions of people who need a car to live their lives. While a few lucky drivers may occasionally pay less than $3.00 per gallon, the national average is likely to remain more costly into the future.”

Florida Police Brutality: Woman’s Face Smashed Into Pavement During Arrest

I am appalled, disgusted, and outraged with the arrogance, corruption, and nonchalant attitude that is running so rampant across our nation by so called “police officers.” While the police are paid by citizens to protect us and keep the peace, more and more “officers” have become the abusive criminals we pay them to protect us from.

Politicians, Judges, and Police Departments all across the nation are involved with covering up “criminal actions” of “police officers.” They cover up in many different ways. Whether by being complicit with criminal actions of officers by not filing criminal charges, or by simply dropping charges against the “victim” hoping that these violations of human rights will disappear into the night never to see the light of day. Sometimes “officials” will place criminal officers on paid leave during an investigation to calm down the public “which amounts to paid vacation” for the out of control criminals with a badge. Paid leave “vacation” rewards “officers” for their criminal behavior instead of punishing them for their crimes and putting them in jail where they belong.

Well word on the street is that The city of Salisbury has currently started site work on the north end of Salisbury behind the Target building for a new "Emergency Services Building" which is going to house the Salisbury city police as well as a 24 hour paid paramedic crew and a paid 24 hour engine crew. Of course that all may be false unless the details come to the surface, but I don't think that another fire company is needed in the city of Salisbury as Delmar can handle anything on that side of town if needed. Like I said this was told to me by a few people so it could be a rumor but was also told that this information as been a well kept secret between the higher ups in the Salisbury fire dept. Maybe someone will investigate this.
