Breaking News: House Passes Bill To Slash $40B For Food Stamps

WASHINGTON – The House voted Thursday evening to cut nearly $40 billion a year from the country's food stamp assistance program.

The 217-210 vote was a major victory for Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia and largely cast along party lines. All House Democrats and 15 Republicans voted against slashing the budget for the program.

Despite its passage in the House, the bill is unlikely to make it through the Democrat-controlled Senate.

  6. Great idea. But once this bill gets to the Democ-Rat controlled Senate It Will Die There. Harry "Whorehouse" Reid will "instruct" his comrades Mikulski and Cardin from Maryland and also Coons and Carper from Delaware, to VOTE AGAINST this bill. I would bet my last dollar on it.
It wouldn't be the 1st time.

  8. How can you support such outrageous cuts to one of our most critical safety-net programs?

I ask you one question: What would Jesus do?

I'm going to bet he wouldn't say "If you won't work for it, I say starve to death."

Maybe we should pray on this a little?

  10. Republicans are like bullies on the playground. They can't come up with any real solutions so they just grab their ball and go home. Bible thumpin, non-Christians.

  12. Human beings are no different than any other animal when it comes to forming a dependency.Real panic has set in on the street in anticipation of this passing.Food banks have reiterated that they don't deal directly to the public, and for good reason. They know what our society has created.Even the major grocery stores will be impacted by the cutback.

  13. Change the system! When I was a child, we got assistance. Dried beans, evaporated milk, peanut butter and a few canned goods. I didn't starve to death. I wasn't malnourished. I am disgusted to see what people are able to purchase with food stamps/obama cards. Want to cut billions? Cut out what can be purchased then see how many apply for food stamps. No more crabs, steak, ice cream, etc. Evaporated milk goes a long way!

  17. And that government cheese made the best mac & cheese ever.

I agree. Go back to a real subsistence program, not the sham it is today.
