"Family Member" Speaks Out About Texas Woman Buried Alive In Ocean City, Maryland

Family Member said...

Since I was there I'd like to set the record straight on this. This was a young woman who just wanted to walk out on the beach to see the ocean after 20+ years of being away from her hometown of MD. The separated part is not exactly accurate. Her parents went up to the room to bed ahead of her never thinking she wouldn't return after a quick walk on the beach. When she did not return after 15-20 minutes they went looking for her. Apparently some stupid human being dug a 5 foot hole and left it. It was dark, she didn't see it and fell in and couldn't get out! Sand starts to cave in when you try to claw at it to get out people! Then the tractors, for whatever reason, didn't see her and buried her alive. The autopsy has revealed no drugs, she was not passed out nor was she sleeping!!! The ones at fault here are whoever felt the need to dig a 5 foot hole and leave it, and the beach tractor drivers for not looking in the hole before pushing sand in to fill it!!! Her family is devastated and now have to bury their daughter, sister, Aunt, and wife so please have some respect and stop with the negative comments people. On behalf of her parents I beg you!!!!

Is It Time for the Young Working Class to start Evacuating Salisbury?

From Payscale.com
By Thornton Crowe

Salisbury used to be a fantastic family town. In the post-WWII era, the economy was booming as many families relocated to enjoy the area's many employers and prosperity after the Great Depression had finally come to a close. Even during the Depression, the area didn't suffer as badly as many others in the country due to its largely agrarian culture, making it more attractive to people looking for escapes from urban areas faring much worse. After Ocean City began to thrive in the Fifties and Sixties, the town grew even more. Many of the area's younger generations returned after college life to start their families, living near all their relatives. They were the bedrock that caused the community to thrive, making even more reasons to love living in the Crossroads of Delmarva.

Zillow Property & Rental Assessment
In recent decades, as many of you know, several companies like Dresser, Chris Craft, Crown, all left due to economic reasons and relocated to other areas, leaving the area with only a growing university and hospital along with Perdue. The area experienced a downturn and it would seem it still hasn't recovered in spite of what some are touting these days.

Looking at the data from popular sites dedicated to helping folks make decisions about where to relocate, Salisbury doesn't offer young, college-educated people the prospects many locals would love to believe. If you look at the trends, the expected increases are not enough to produce good-paying career jobs for even the kids graduating from local universities. What's a college grad or anyone of working age to do?

Another Shooting/Fatality In Salisbury Maryland 7-30-17

Joe you can post this now, it is another confirmed shooting with a fatality at 406 Bethel Street in Salisbury. It is another fatality in the city limits. What does Jake Day have to say about it now? A Priority 1 trauma arrest from a shooting is always, always a fatality.

VIDEO: Dirtbikes On Route 13 in Salisbury 8-3-17

These guys almost hit us in front of the hospital going north bound on Rt.13. Weaving in and out of traffic doing wheelies. While wearing masks. Just so happened they turned around an one had his mask off. This is not the first time I witnessed these four bikes endangering people on the highway.  Obviously the cops can't catch them.

Thank you for your time.
Sincerely a concerned citizen.

WICOMICO COUNTY: The Cannon Coup

You voted for an Executive run government but John Cannon, Councilman at large and Council president, doesn't agree with you so he's attempting to reinstate Council government through abusing his legislative powers and bullying other Council Members into giving him power!

This comment came through on the Larry Dodd bust article last night and it raises some very interesting points.
"Please tell me how can retired employees get to create a personnel manual..especially when they did work for the county they did nothing with Human Resource Dept.or they were not the director of it either.. The Director of HR should be the one that is creating the manual... Laws have changed. And new policies need to be made for the issues that HR Dept.have come across other the years. The Council knows nothing about nor does the retirees... U have to have the Human Resource director help with creating this..And with this draft they have the retiree insurance coverage change and to make trust for the retirees prescriptions it's going to make the insurance for the current employee's insurance go up at least 20% or more.. Is County Council going to give what they do make being a Council member for insurance.. The insurance did not go up this year. If there is not a problem with it why change it. County Council nor Retirees do the hiring or firing nor do they deal with the day today issues that Human Resources does every day... Not to have the HR director creating or even helping with the new manual is crazy as hell to me. And if you really look at it they have stripped the Executive from doing his job or anything. He will not have any job duties at all because they have been reassigned to another in the Executive office. The County Council is a joke. Let Bob Culver do his job. Let him run this county for once. The good old boys have not let him do his job yet.. Get rid of the good old boys Bob..."
Reality is, this above comment is absolutely spot on!

It's no secret Cannon has been much like a gigantic bull in a china shop lately, bumping into all the china and sending it crashing to the ground. His last stunt with Steve Roser (Leslie Lewis-disgruntled ex-employee with an axe to grind) has definitely caused quite a few problems for the council as one of the victims has a lawyer poised to sue them for defamation. He has targeted employees and County Executive Bob Culver with a vengeance and now, it needs to be brought into the public forum because the voters are the ultimate judge on what is and isn't going to fly in our local government.

Hey, Larry, Ya Bored, Bro?

BUSTED Crying Councilman Surfing the Net on Your Time, District 3
Watching the County Council meeting it is discovered that Larry Dodd (District 3) must be one bored little critter. Surfing the Net while the others talk about the Personnel Manual has become Dodd's fun time!

Doesn't look like any employee manual ever seen!

Texting and playing on the phone...

One would think given they don't have that much to do as Council Men (No women on the council - wonder why) they could keep their mind in the game when conducting County Council business. As you see from the images, Dodd is just playing on the computer.

Is this the same Councilman who cried when he lost an election giving him a hiatus from 2006 to 2014? Hmmmm wonder why? Doesn't seem like he's all that serious about the business of the people.

Should we continue to let this guy be on the County Council? District 3, you're not being represented if your man is sitting there playing on Facebook or whatever picture site he was surfing.

If you accept this kind of government, then you get the government you deserve!

A Viewer Writes: A note to nosy people

Dogs shouldn’t be left in hot cars on hot sunny days. Saturday evening at 6 PM, with rain and clouds, was NOT a sunny hot day.

My wife and I went to Golden Corral, north SBY, to celebrate our 40th anniversary and my 50th anniversary of having Lyme. We took our dog along; she loves to ride in the car. Since it was 67° and cloudy/rainy, we rolled the windows up and left her in her car. We sat in the restaurant at a window where we could watch the car and keep an eye on her.

We had gotten to eat most of our first plate of food when we were notified that someone had complained to management about her being locked in the car with the windows up, and was threatening to call the police. My wife had to skip our anniversary meal, go out and sit in the car with our dog so that the windows could be down a bit to please you. Note: this is a rescue, a bait and fighting dog rescue, for her, and for passers-bys, safety, she can’t be in the car with the windows down as she protects her car, STRONGLY, VERY strongly when people get near her car. This dog is our “baby”; we protect her as if she were our own child. If it were sunny, or hot, she wouldn’t be in HER car; she’d be home in the air conditioning. But with temps in the 60’s, and no evening sun shining down (it was drizzling all day), she likes to go with us for a ride in her car, just like most dogs do. The interior of the car was at most one to two degrees warmer than the air temps. She was NOT hot, let alone in danger from the heat. Several of the customers had sweaters and coats on, heat was not a problem.

Please people, use your bloody mind! My dog was not in danger, was not panting, she wasn’t hot, if anything she was chilly. The windows were up for her, and your, protection. Most people like to close their windows when it’s raining. There was no reason to challenge the management, or to threaten to call the police on us. It was in the 60’s and cloudy. Instead, you ruined our anniversary meal, upset the dog, and stuck your nose where it didn’t belong. Luckily, the windows WERE up, or she might have bitten that long nose off when you threatened her and us.

Please, use common sense. If it’s hot and sunny, and the dog is in distress, call the police. If it’s cool and rainy, keep your nose where it belongs, on the end of your face.

Police Seek Public’s Help To Identify Wicomico Co. Murder Victim Who Has Distinctive Tattoos

(SALISBURY, MD) — Maryland State Police are asking for the public’s help as they attempt to identify a man who was murdered late this morning in Wicomico County.

The victim had no identification on him when police arrived and his identity is unknown. He is described as an African American male, possibly in his 30’s.

The victim has two distinct tattoos that investigators are likely familiar to those who may know the victim. On one shoulder is a pit bull with the word “JUICE” under it. On the other shoulder is a bull dog holding a “Tommy gun.”

Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators are investigating this murder that occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. today. Details are few at this time. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was assaulted by one or more suspects while he was on Bethel Street, in Salisbury. He was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Anyone with information about the identity of the victim or about his murder, is urged to call the Salisbury Police Department at 410-548-3165. Callers may remain anonymous.

JUST IN: Medical Examiner Rules Ocean City Death Accidental 8-2-17

OCEAN CITY, MD – (August 2, 2017): The Ocean City Police Department has been provided an official ruling in the death investigation that began on Monday, July 31. The victim, Ashley O’Connor, 30, of Plano, Texas, was found on the beach in the early morning hours in the area of 2nd Street.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the death to be accidental caused by asphyxia due to suffocation. The preliminary investigation revealed that O’Connor walked onto the beach alone at approximately 2 a.m. and was later discovered in a hole covered by sand. It remains to be determined at this time if O’Connor fell into the hole or climbed in on her own accord.

A portion of the beach was closed on Monday as the Ocean City Police Forensic Services Unit worked to recover the body from the sand with assistance from Maryland State Police crime scene technicians. The body was removed at approximately 4:15 p.m. and the beach was open to the public at approximately 5 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ocean City Police Department Major Crimes Unit at 410-723-6604.

Former FOP President Marty Fisher Found Guilty For Stealing $74,000.00 From Police Officers

The former President of the local FOP was found guilty of stealing $74,000.00 from local Police Officers and sentenced to 10 years. HOWEVER, Judge Jackson removed all but 18 months from that sentence and demanded Fisher pay back $50,000.00 of the $74,000.00 that he stole.

So let's see. Become a Police Officer, steal from your fellow brothers and sisters, he'll probably only serve 6 months and PROFIT $24,000.00.

Sheriff Mike Lewis sent Judge Jackson a direct letter asking for a "harsh sentence" and described just how much Fisher hurt Law Enforcement.

Look, I have a feeling this is going to draw a lot of comments, AS IT SHOULD! For me personally, this is a load of crap. Young kids are getting extremely long sentences for minor things and a grown man who absolutely knows right from wrong gets a slap on the wrist. Come on now!

A Comment On The Dead Texas Woman Found Buried In The Sand In Ocean City, Maryland 8-1-17

Anonymous said...

She was in a "hole" that was 3-4 feet deep. OC police report the death "appears" to be "accidental." Really? Sounds more like OC is trying to downplay a murder on the beach to avoid the Aruba-like bad publicity that ruined tourism for the Island. Now they have to really pull some strings to get the coroner at Baltimore to go along with their deception. A beach sweeper would have collected her, not buried her in a hole. Foul play should definitely be considered. But OC officials say accidental, and are now scrambling to get someone, anyone, to back them up. How in the heck does someone die and get buried on the beach accidentally???? Reminds me of the days, long ago in the south, where blacks were found hanging from trees, with their hands tied behind their backs, and local authorities ruling the deaths a suicide.

This is the face of deportation: A dad with no criminal record, an American wife and two kids

New Fairfield, Connecticut (CNN) Six-year-old Preston Colindres runs up the driveway and front steps and jumps into his father's arms.

"Hey buddy! How are you? Oh, I love you!" Joel Colindres says as he kisses his son's cheek. He picks up his 2-year-old daughter, Lila, hugs her and tells her he loves her.

Colindres' children don't know their father's heart is breaking.

Colindres, 33, fled from Guatemala more than a decade ago. He and his American wife, Samantha, can't quite figure out how to tell their young children that in less than a month he may no longer greet them on the steps of their New Fairfield home.

How do you explain to a 6-year-old why their father is going to be deported? The couple is unsure -- especially when they can't figure it out themselves.

Ravens are now the face of NFL’s Colin Kaepernick problem

The Ravens are back in the NFL spotlight for the wrong reasons, again.

Three years after supporting Ray Rice and becoming the face of the league’s problem with how it handled domestic violence issues, the Ravens are now very much at the forefront of the controversy surrounding Colin Kaepernick’s NFL future.

ESPN reported Wednesday that Ravens coach John Harbaugh and general manager Ozzie Newsome are both in favor of signing Kaepernick to provide insurance as starting quarterback Joe Flacco deals with a back injury, but owner Steve Bisciotti has resisted the idea.

The Ravens attempt to control the message on their pursuit of Kaepernick fell flat.

“We are going through a process, and we have not made a decision,” Newsome said Wednesday afternoon in a statement. “Steve Bisciotti has not told us we cannot sign Colin Kaepernick, nor has he blocked the move. Whoever is making these claims is wrong.”

NAACP issues first-ever travel warning against U.S. state

Normally, travel advisory warnings are issued by the U.S. State Department, with the purpose of warning citizens to exercise caution when traveling to certain countries, either due to local violence, political risks, disease, or severe weather.

Last week, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) issued its own, first-ever travel ban, “warning” people of the risk of “discrimination” if they travel to the state of Missouri.

The ban started out being circulated by the Missouri NAACP chapter only but was recently adopted by the national organization, claiming it is in response to police shootings and immigration legislation.

Man Vents On Social Media After Documenting Difference Between His Groceries VS Food Stamp Shopper In Line!

An American Army veteran went food shopping and couldn’t help notice another shopper’s cart. It was loaded with tons of food and that’s when the veteran noticed something strange. The other shopper opened their wallet and people’s jaw dropped. They were paying with food stamps. But that’s not what sparked the controversy on Facebook. The Army veteran noted that the person using food stamps had a wallet full of cash – in fact, more cash than he had himself!

Just one look at this picture and you’ll see why Americans are angry with the way people abuse the welfare system.

Now Chelsea Is Speaking Out To ‘WHITE’ Parents- I Think I’m Going To Be Sick

In a desperate attempt to cling to any residual fame the Clinton name might still possess, Chelsea Clinton has decided to give free advice to white parents. Not parents of all races, just white parents. She’s singling us out for our skin color.

Racist.

In a tweet, Clinton suggested that white people need to talk to our children about racism and hate throughout their lifetime.

Tangier Residents Pray for a Miracle to Save their Tiny Island

TANGIER ISLAND, Virginia – As a new day dawns over Tangier Island, its beauty and charm are undeniable. The quaint, historic fishing village is home to 450 people and everyone seems to know everyone.

Crab and oyster fishing are king here and tourism also helps to pump up the working-class economy. The majority of the island attend one of two churches and lean politically to the right. Eighty-seven percent voted for President Trump and campaign signs still dot the community.

But Tangier Island faces a tough future that is literally playing out day by day. It includes environmental forces that threaten to wash it away in combination with government agencies unable to act as lawmakers stall on funding.

Oh poor Michelle Obama, she is so oppressed. Being First Lady is practically like being a prisoner, or a slave! It’s a horrible life! You’re allowed to go on multi-million dollar vacations that you don’t pay a dime for, you wear designer clothes all time, you have a staff that waits on you hand a foot, it’s truly a trying life.

She faced so much racism being the most important woman in the United States, which had the GALL to elect a black man to the highest office in the land. It’s like living in the 1800s!

At least that’s how Mrs. Obama tells her side of the story.

Where in the World does Jake get his statistics?

The following just came through and it, once again, spouts unsubstantiated statistics and gobbly goop that has become hallmark Jake Day in regards to his interactions with the public. It is any wonder the Mayor even interfaces with people because he does have a Communications Director who could probably render more insightful explanations for things - if we dare to believe someone has competence in the Mayor's office.

"Hey Joe, I called Jake day out on his bs this morning. Here is his reply. Where is he getting his statistics? Jake day stated- Cities don't have the luxury of not investing in infrastructure. As for investing in police, we have increased the police department's budget by $2 million operating in the last 4 years - even while crime was on the decline. I put forth the plan to add 10 new police officers in 2015 (and we did). The reason why is when I came in to office, I met with SA Maciarello, Sheriff Lewis and Chief Duncan and asked what their opinion was of how to reduce crime and every one of them agreed, saying: increase # of officers. Salisbury needed more police officers. That's why we've grown the department. The proof is in the pudding, that the highest # of Part One crimes in our history was in 1986, second highest was 2009, and lowest is in 2016. 2017 - down another 4.5% right now. We now spend more per capita than any City in Maryland except College Park on law enforcement. I'm not sure spending more money on policing is exactly our issue."
It's interesting that none of these stats list any links to proof, leaving the reader to wonder if they're even real at all. Instead, it seems Jake gins up baseless claims, expecting you to be ignorant enough to buy the flimsy fancy talk. Glad to see he learned something at Oxford.

Since when did we accept this as proper etiquette for any elected official to give these half-baked ideas based on nothingness? Shouldn't he be held to some standard based in factual reference instead of the utter hoopla pulled out of thin air? Does he really think so little of you to believe this is a viable explanation for any question asked by a voter?

Isn't it time for Salisbury voters to demand a smarter city hall?

A Viewer Writes: Delmarva Power request another rate increase. Fourth in 5 years.

Joe I thought it would be appropriate to inform your readers of the pending increase to electric delivery charges here in Md. Again the hogs at DPL want more from the consumer to fatten their share holders and again nothing is being contested by the representatives in Annapolis who are SUPPOSED to be speaking for us. We pay rates comparable to metro areas (Source Wall Street Journal) and they're STILL NOT satisfied. How much is the consumer supposed
to bear so DPL can hand out money to Mathias, Otto, Haddaway, and Eckert to get what they want. This increase amounts to $27,029,794.00. The part they don't tell you is this is per monthly billing cycle spread among the residents of Md. who are on DPL systems. ALL your legislators sit back and collect their SOFT money and give them what they want and this is from Hogan all the way to the bottom man. I don't understand how they sleep at night knowing this is hard for people to pay that aren't getting slush fund money, the poor and the old.

A vote for ANY of them is a vote for WRONG and greedy businesses. Mathias takes money from power companies that have NO service obligations in this area or for that fact in Md.

Get smart people and elect some new comers who might have some morals. If you think the ones in office care or have morals then why should I be telling you this instead of them.

Thanking You Most Gratefully I Remain, J.R. 'Bob' Aswell who is Not Fooled.

BENNETT MIDDLE SCHOOL CAFETERIA EXPANSION NEEDED

Student safety is one of the core values of Wicomico County Public Schools, and that is why the school system is assessing the critical need for additional cafeteria space at Bennett Middle School. Severe overcrowding in the BMS cafeteria is causing safety concerns among staff and students, and has resulted in several injuries since the school opened its doors in August 2015 in Fruitland.

Originally designed in 2013-2014 when the projected student enrollment was 988 students, the cafeteria has a capacity of 335 students. BMS currently has 1,058 students, and to accommodate the current overcrowding in the cafeteria, six extra tables have been added on the stage platform to provide enough seating for students. Bennett Middle School faculty and administrators say the current situation is concerning, and many parents agree. “My daughter told me she was often uncomfortable during lunch,” said BMS parent Heather Smith. “Because the seats are so close together if she leans back, she would accidentally bump into, or even elbow someone, and that could cause a confrontation. Plus, you have to walk sideways just to get to your seat.”

Superintendent Dr. Donna C. Hanlin says student safety is priority number one for WCPS. “After seeing what safety challenges are being caused in the cafeteria at Bennett Middle, it is necessary to prioritize this expansion for the start of the 2018-2019 school year,” said Dr. Hanlin. Enrollment at BMS could increase to more than 1,200 in the next 10 years, so the cafeteria expansion would address current and future enrollment demands.

The project requires the approval of the Wicomico County Board of Education. The cost of the project is $1.4 million, and the funding is already available, according to Leisl Ashby, WCPS Director of Facility Services for Planning & Construction. “We have the funds for the cafeteria expansion since the original construction of Bennett Middle came in under budget. This project would be completed without impacting other project priorities and their associated funding requests.”

Construction of the Bennett Middle School cafeteria expansion could begin as early as December, and with good weather, would be completed in time for the 2018-2019 school year.

It's Been Exactly 80 Years Since The US Declared War On Weed - And Weed Is Still Winning

This Wednesday is the eightieth anniversary of the first major action the federal government took against cannabis in the United States, and eight decades later, that same federal government has still failed to reduce Americans’ consumption of the plant. In fact, it’s on the rise.

Long before the era of prohibition, druggists used cannabis as a medicine. According to Origins, a joint publication by the Ohio State University and Miami University history departments:

“Cannabis, like opiates and cocaine, was freely available at drug stores in liquid form and as a refined product, hashish. Cannabis was also a common ingredient in turn-of-the-century patent medicines, over-the-counter concoctions brewed to proprietary formulas.”

Then, like today, it helped people relax:

“The hashish candy advertised in an 1862 issue of Vanity Fair as a treatment for nervousness and melancholy, for example, was also ‘a pleasurable and harmless stimulant.’ ‘Under its influence all classes seem to gather new inspiration and energy,’ the advertisement explained.”

Though in 1906 the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act required patent medicine companies to list cannabis as an ingredient in products where it was present – and between 1914 and 1925 26 states passed laws prohibiting it — it wasn’t until 1937 federal authorities took substantial action.

On August 2, 1937, Congress passed the “Marihuana Tax Act,” which was largely the result of anti-narcotic crusader Henry Anslinger’s mission to ban the plant. As Time has explained, creating a “tax” on the substance effectively outlawed it:

“As with the Harrison Narcotic Act in 1914, Congress deemed an act taxing and regulating drugs, rather than prohibiting them, less susceptible to legal challenge. As a result, the 1937 legislation was ostensibly a revenue measure. Just as the Harrison Act used taxation and regulation to, in effect, prohibit morphine, heroin and other drugs, the Marijuana Tax Act essentially outlawed the possession or sale of marijuana.”
