This is the face of deportation: A dad with no criminal record, an American wife and two kids

New Fairfield, Connecticut (CNN) Six-year-old Preston Colindres runs up the driveway and front steps and jumps into his father's arms.

"Hey buddy! How are you? Oh, I love you!" Joel Colindres says as he kisses his son's cheek. He picks up his 2-year-old daughter, Lila, hugs her and tells her he loves her.

Colindres' children don't know their father's heart is breaking.

Colindres, 33, fled from Guatemala more than a decade ago. He and his American wife, Samantha, can't quite figure out how to tell their young children that in less than a month he may no longer greet them on the steps of their New Fairfield home.

How do you explain to a 6-year-old why their father is going to be deported? The couple is unsure -- especially when they can't figure it out themselves.

  5. I got no sympathy for Law Breakers! I have to follow laws I hate and think are stupid all the time, but as being a citizen, you have to do it, or be ready to suffer the consequences.

  6. She should move to HIS country however they will NOT get free money from HIS government. It will be adjustment but they will LOVE his country. Bye

  7. 1 you came here illegally. 2you got married knowing you where here illegally. 3 you and your wife decided to have children knowing you might be caught and deported because you chose to break the law. Now if you followed the law like most of us you would not have put your kids through this.

  8. CNN propaganda......Unfairness should 'strike the hearts of Americans' - what's fair about illegally breaking into a country and expecting no ramifications!

  9. Come here the right way and this would not have happened. IRS and other agencies break family's all the time. So don't cry it is your own doing you know you broke the law.

  10. Why should I feel sorry for someone who ignores the law?

  11. You explain this by telling them he broke the law and when you break the law there are consequences. How simple and truthful can you get by being honest? No pity from me. He was wrong.

  12. Why hasn't he started the process of becoming a citizen?

  13. If your first act is breaking American law then you need to go to the end of the line.

  14. Well, I was going to say something, but everyone else already did!

Note to Preston: Had you been a born here citizen and decided to rob a bank or kill someone, you would be separated from your family and they would NOT be able to go live with you, so, really, being deported is your best case scenario!

I always try to look at the bright side!

    AMF!

Hint: "MF" does not stand for "my friend".

  15. I thought marrying a citizen got you a green card or something. Does that only last a certain amount of time? If you marry someone and want to stay here, why wouldn't you apply for citizenship?

  17. If they lived here long enough to have become us citizens, and worked here then it falls on the parents--they just thought the rules that apply to us did not apply to them. Is it ignorance or just cheating us, did they pay taxes, rent, morgages, bills like us these are questions that need to be answered.

  18. The blame belongs with the globalists who encouraged this family to come here and take American jobs from American people. Now there are not good solutions. The illegal immigrants will eventually realize that being removed from this Country is a blessing in disguise. The US Government is an evil empire and will enslave every person in the Country through debt slavery for the international bankers. Get out while you still can.

  19. It seems that he has had thirteen years to become a citizen. therefore he has nobody to blame but himself. He should have taken the initiative to do what was right to become a U.S.citizen. So now at the last minute don't come crying no fair. You had thirteen years to get legal.

  20. Take the family with you. I'm sure Guatemala is a nice peaceful nation with great opportunities /

  21. If someone has entered the country or stayed pass their visa then they are criminals. Period. Law is the Law. If he cared about his family he would've been legally here. No sympathies.

  22. Obviously presented bad papers to his employer, or they totally disregarded I-9 paperwork. Marriage license? CT senators while Obama was letting everyone in? On and on. CNN account only says he missed a hearing way back, and then judge ordered him Gone! That day has come.

  23. Take the wife too. She harbored him lol

  24. There is no free cheese. There are consequences to illegal acts. He knew one day this would catch up. They all do. Now they expect compassion to supersede law and order. Just say NO! Deport them!

  25. CNN is trying to twist t to break liberal hearts, the guy had ten years to be a citizen! And the real reason we are deporting these people is thier is a large welfare and gang element involved and they need to go!!! No free rides and illegal voting anymore, no more criminals hiding here! This is why that dummy is getting deported.I'm sure he isn't on welfare, wink wink, and if he wasn't lazy he would already be a citizen.

  26. Sorry about your luck
Should have done it legally to start with ,.

  27. These stories make me sick not because of the guy's plight but because he didn't give a sh&& about his family enough to become legal all these years. He did this to himself and it's really time for the liberal bleeding hearts to stop blaming ICE or the President and start expecting people like this to take personal responsibility for his OWN choices. No one made him stay here and not become legal all these years. He can take his whole family with him back to Guatemala.

  28. Illegal is illegal. Do it the right way and cops won't be hunting you.

  29. The family should not blame others for the consequences of breaking our immigration laws. He got away with it for too long. Go back (be deported) and re-apply for entry, based on family connections. Get legal, and quit whining.
