"Hey buddy! How are you? Oh, I love you!" Joel Colindres says as he kisses his son's cheek. He picks up his 2-year-old daughter, Lila, hugs her and tells her he loves her.
Colindres' children don't know their father's heart is breaking.
Colindres, 33, fled from Guatemala more than a decade ago. He and his American wife, Samantha, can't quite figure out how to tell their young children that in less than a month he may no longer greet them on the steps of their New Fairfield home.
How do you explain to a 6-year-old why their father is going to be deported? The couple is unsure -- especially when they can't figure it out themselves.

I thought marrying a citizen got you a green card or something. Does that only last a certain amount of time? If you marry someone and want to stay here, why wouldn't you apply for citizenship?

Is it ignorance or just cheating us, did they pay taxes, rent, morgages, bills like us these are questions that need to be answered.

These stories make me sick not because of the guy's plight but because he didn't give a sh&& about his family enough to become legal all these years. He did this to himself and it's really time for the liberal bleeding hearts to stop blaming ICE or the President and start expecting people like this to take personal responsibility for his OWN choices. No one made him stay here and not become legal all these years. He can take his whole family with him back to Guatemala.

ReplyDeleteThe family should not blame others for the consequences of breaking our immigration laws. He got away with it for too long. Go back (be deported) and re-apply for entry, based on family connections. Get legal, and quit whining.
