Trump to Congress on Obamacare: 'Action' is not a choice

President Trump urged Congress Tuesday night to take "action" on repealing Obamacare, making a public re-commitment to do away with the healthcare law despite all the difficulties that poses.

"Obamacare is collapsing – and we must act decisively to protect all Americans," Trump said in his first address to a joint session of Congress. "Action is not a choice – it is a necessity."

Trump laid out his most detailed vision yet as president of what a replacement to the Affordable Care Act should look like. Most notably, he didn't explicitly say the law's Medicaid expansion should be rolled back, instead saying that states should get the flexibility to "make sure no one is left out."

Nor did Trump push for allowing the government to negotiate lower prices with the pharmaceutical industry for Medicare drugs, something he called for on the campaign trail. Instead, he called for medical malpractice reforms to bring down the overall cost of insurance and medications.

Congressional candidate: Moon-colonizing companies could destroy cities by dropping rocks

A transgender-issues activist and Democratic candidate for Congress says the advent of the space tourism industry could give private corporations a “frightening amount of power” to destroy the Earth with rocks because of the Moon’s military importance.

Brianna Wu, a prominent “social justice warrior” in the “Gamergate” controversy who now is running for the House seat in Massachusetts’ 8th District, suggested in a since-deleted tweet that companies could drop rocks from the Moon.

“The moon is probably the most tactically-valuable military ground for earth,” the tweet said. “Rocks dropped from there have the power of 100s of nuclear bombs.”

Trump Signs Bill to Nix Gun Checks for Mentally Ill

President Donald Trump quietly signed a bill into law Tuesday rolling back an Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun.

The rule, which was finalized in December, added people receiving Social Security checks for mental illnesses and people deemed unfit to handle their own financial affairs to the national background check database.

Had the rule fully taken effect, the Obama administration predicted it would have added about 75,000 names to that database.

President Barack Obama recommended the now-nullified regulation in a 2013 memo following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which left 20 first graders and six others dead. The measure sought to block some people with severe mental health problems from buying guns.

The original rule was hotly contested by gun rights advocates who said it infringed on Americans' Second Amendment rights. Gun control advocates, however, praised the rule for curbing the availability of firearms to those who may not use them with the right intentions.

Oklahoma lawmakers debate bill requiring men's permission for abortion (+video)

HB 1441 would require a woman seeking an abortion to obtain written permission from her sexual partner.

Oklahoma lawmakers on Tuesday will discuss a bill that, if passed, will require all women seeking an abortion to get written permission from the father of the fetus.

According to Oklahoma House Bill 1441, a woman must provide the name of her sexual partner to the physician performing the abortion prior to the procedure. The bill reads, "if the person identified as the father of the fetus challenges the fact that he is the father, such individual may demand that a paternity test be performed." The only circumstances in which these requirements would be waived is if the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest, the mother's life is put at risk, or the father of the fetus is dead.

Democratic Rep. Cedric Richmond's sexist joke shows liberals don't mind brutalizing Republican women like Kellyanne Conway

In front of the entire congressional press corps last night, Rep. Cedric Richmond of Louisiana, insinuated that Kellyanne Conway, a married mother of four and counselor to President Trump, was a prostitute.

It was good old-fashioned locker room talk with just one exception — Richmond isn't a Republican. He sits on the left side of the aisle and, perhaps as a result, there hasn't been any censure from Democrat leadership and little condemnation in the press.

Referring to a picture of the White House counselor sitting on her knees on a couch in the Oval Office, the Democrat quipped that Conway "really looked kind of familiar in that position there." The joke was met mostly with crickets. To their credit, some of the politicians and pundits attending the rubber chicken dinner offered up a few boos. But that was it.

Democrats In Congress: Have You No Sense of Decency?

There was a moment during President Donald Trump’s big speech last night where Americans got an idea what Democrats in Congress are all about.

When the president announced a new agency to help victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants, there was an audible groan from the Democratic side of the House chamber.

He had just called for support for law enforcement. Then he said this:

“And we must support the victims of crime. I have ordered the Department of Homeland Security to create an office to serve American victims. The office is called VOICE — Victims Of Immigration Crime Engagement.”

At that moment the Democrats groaned. They sounded like a crowd around a putting green at a pro golf event when the tournament leader misses a putt.

(You can see and hear the passage of the speech here, starting at 0:36; the groan is at 0:53.)

Prison staffing woes continue as officers, medical personnel quit

DOVER — Thirteen correctional officers have resigned and 12 more have filed for retirement since the Feb. 1 inmate uprising at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center left one officer dead and others injured.

In addition, the DOC’s medical contractor, Connections Community Support Programs, has had 29 employees choose to separate since the hostage incident.

A spokeswoman for the Delaware Department of Correction noted that DOC employees are entitled to retire after 25 years of service.

And the loss of 29 employees from the medical contractor doesn’t mean it is understaffed, said DOC spokeswoman Jayme Gravell.

“There are not 29 vacancies,” she said. “Connections maintains a pool of per-diem workers who fill in when necessary.”

Just How Much Pee Is In That Pool?

You know that sharp odor of chlorine from the swimming pool you can recall from earliest childhood? It turns out it's not just chlorine, but a potent brew of chemicalsthat form when chlorine meets sweat, body oils, and urine.

But up until now, just how much urine has been difficult to measure, says chemistXing-Fang Li of the University of Alberta. Li and her colleagues report they can now tell roughly how much pee is in a pool by measuring the artificial sweeteners carried in most people's urine. Certain sweeteners can be a good proxy for pee, she says, because they're designed to "go right through you" and don't break down readily in pool water.

The scientists calculated that one 220,000-gallon, commercial-size swimming pool contained almost 20 gallons of urine. In a residential pool (20-by-40-foot, five-feet deep), that would translate to about two gallons of pee. It's only about one-hundredth of a percent, but any urine in a swimming pool can be a health concern for some people, not to mention that smell that never quite goes away.

Md. House approves bill limiting test taking in school

The House approved what supporters call the “Less Testing, More Learning” bill that would limit the time spent on testing during an academic year to 21 hours from elementary through middle school and 23 hours in high school. That includes time spent on school district, state and federally mandated exams.

The bill is also designed to give a voice to parents and teachers: Each school district would have to create a committee on assessments to oversee compliance on the issue.

Clintons befriended Chinese cook who got illegal donations

Once the shock of Hillary Clinton election loss passed, the blame game began.

But FBI Director Comey's decision to reopen the investigation into Hillary's emails the Wikileaks revelations and campaign strategy missteps were hardly the only reasons to blame for Hillary's devastating loss. Nor was the inability of the Democratic candidate to connect to voters.

According to presidential historian and New York Times bestselling author Doug Wead, Hillary's scathing defeat was unsurprising and a direct result of the scandals, lies and cover-ups that have followed her and her husband for decades.

'The idea that the Clintons' scandals would somehow be dismissed by history upon the election of Hillary as president was always a fool's wish', Wead writes in his compelling new book, Game of Thorns: The Inside Story of Hillary Clinton's Failed Campaign and Donald Trump's Winning Strategy.

"Where's the action? Where's the doing things that help working people? That's what we want," Schumer said Wednesday on NBC's "Today."

"With this president, more than any other, his speeches are detached from reality. In his campaign and even in his inaugural speech, he talks to the working people of America. But for the last 40 days, his actions have been decidedly on the side of the special interests hurting working America," Schumer said.

Jeff Sessions to target drug cartels, gun offenses

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday that he plans to target drug cartels and crack down on gun crimes to snuff out what could be the start of a national crime wave, evidenced by a recent uptick in homicides and other violence.

But left unsaid is whether Mr. Sessions also will direct the Justice Department to disrupt the legal marijuana industry — a move that critics say could undermine his goals and enable the cartels.

Speaking Tuesday to the National Association of Attorneys General, Mr. Sessions warned of the dangers posed by cartels that are able to smuggle drugs such as marijuana and heroin across the U.S.-Mexico border.

“The less money they extract out of America, that is sent to their organizations, the less power and less danger they present to their governments and their people and the fewer people are addicted,” he said.

The attorney general has been steadfast in his opposition to marijuana legalization, saying drug use and crime go hand in hand.

“I do not believe that this pop in crime, this increase in crime is necessarily an aberration, a one-time blip. I’m afraid it represents the beginning of a trend, and I think what really concerns me in the bottom of all that is also the increase in drugs in America,” Mr. Sessions said. “They tend to follow one another. That’s what happened in the ‘60s and ‘70s. And I think it could happen now.”

Petition urging Obama to run for president in France gains 42,000 signatures

The slogan in French is, “Oui, on peut,” which translates into “Yes, we can.”

Former President Obama is a U.S. citizen, which means he is an ineligible candidate, but that did not stop 42,000 supporters in the country to sign an online petition urging him to run.

One of the petition’s organizers told the BBC that the message is intended to the eligible candidates running for office: “Hey guys, you don’t really make us dream.”

With Europe's migrant influx and fears of Islamic extremism on many voters' minds, polls show high support for the tough-on-security platform of conservative former Prime Minister Francois Fillon and the nationalist campaign of far-right leader Marine Le Pen.

However, Fillon has stumbled on allegations of fake taxpayer-funded jobs for his wife and children - particularly damaging for someone pledging to slash public spending. Le Pen, who came in third in the 2012 race, is facing financial investigations too. And while she hopes to ride a wave of anti-establishment, anti-European Union sentiment to power, numerous critics fear her worldview is racist and dangerous.

Seven Baltimore City Police Officers Arrested for Abusing Power in Federal Racketeering Conspiracy

Officers Allegedly Robbed Victims, Filed False Affidavits and Made Fraudulent Overtime Claims; One Officer Also Charged in Separate Six-Defendant Drug Conspiracy Indictment

“Criminals Who Work in Police Agencies Unfairly Tarnish Honorable Officers”

Baltimore, Maryland – Federal agents arrested seven Baltimore City Police Department (BPD) officers today for a racketeering conspiracy and racketeering offenses, including robbery, extortion, and overtime fraud. The indictment was returned on February 23, 2017, and unsealed today following the execution of arrest and search warrants. One of the officers also was charged in a separate drug conspiracy indictment, also unsealed today.

The indictments were announced by Maryland U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Gordon B. Johnson of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baltimore Field Office; Assistant Special Agent in Charge Don A. Hibbert of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Baltimore District Office; and Commissioner Kevin Davis of the Baltimore Police Department.

“This is not about aggressive policing, it is about a criminal conspiracy,” said U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein. “Prosecuting criminals who work in police agencies is essential both to protect victims and to support the many honorable officers whose reputations they unfairly tarnish.”

Alexander: Trump's Triumph Is Demos' Disaster

When a political novice who has never held an elected office at any level arrives in the swamp as the newly elected president of the United States, there is going to be an adjustment period. While that adjustment period is certainly not over, the speech Donald Trump delivered to Congress Tuesday night outlining his vision for a unified nation and his agenda to “make America great” was outstanding. (Read our editors' analysis, “Trump 2.0.”)

I didn’t just fall off a turnip truck. I’ve watched more than 40 presidential addresses and this one ranks among the best first speeches delivered by a president in decades. Trump’s remarks about support for middle American families and workers, especially those trapped on violent urban plantations, his advocacy for supporting law enforcement and our military, and his moving tribute to Ryan Owen’s widow — this was very much like Ronald Reagan’s first address to Congress 36 years ago.

On November 9th last year, I was asked repeatedly by colleagues and friends across the nation if I was ecstatic about Donald Trump’s election. My response was, “No, I am relieved.”

The President gained support for his policy plans among viewers: Interviewed before and after the address, they came away from it more positive on his ideas for the economy, immigration, terrorism, crime and Obamacare.

The president moved opinion among viewers on his plans for a number of policy issues, comparing their views before and after the speech. The percent favoring his plans for fighting terrorism, addressing crime, improving the economy, handling illegal immigration, and dealing with Obamacare all jumped.

Facing 'Judicial Emergency,' Indiana Borrows Judges From Wisconsin

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana has an ongoing "judicial emergency" and has called in out-of-state judges to help with a backlog of cases.

The emergency comes after former President Barack Obama's 2016 nomination to fill a vacant post failed to gain Senate approval.

Starting Wednesday, two judges from Wisconsin will lessen the workload by taking on a number of civil cases from the Indianapolis docket, according to a news release.

District Judges William C. Griesbach and Lynn S. Adelman from the Eastern District of Wisconsin volunteered to preside over Indiana cases for the next three months.

A judicial emergency exists when a judicial post is vacant longer than 18 months and weighted filings are in excess of 600 cases per judge, according to the U.S. Courts website.

Trump Is Winning, and Leftists Are Confused

President Trump’s approval ratings are nothing special. Actually, they’re extraordinarily low by historical standards — he’s clocking in at 44 percent, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. His support base is highly polarized, with 85 percent of Republicans behind him and just 9 percent of Democrats. If those rates drop steadily for the next two years — and given the level of polarization, they certainly could — Republicans would be in serious danger of losing the House, since low presidential approval ratings correlate significantly with House elections.

Then again, Trump’s support base may be stable.

Here’s why.

Slate Issues Vitriolic Obituary For Fox News Host Alan Colmes

"... buffoon ..."

The liberal website Slate issued a cynical, hate-filled obituary for Fox News host Alan Colmes just a few hours after his passing Thursday.

“Alan Colmes, Buffoon and Patsy, Was Fox News’ Original Liberal Weakling,” declared the article’s headline.

Slate’s Issac Chotiner wrote that Colmes, who died at age 66 following a brief illness, deserved scorn for not being a good enough liberal.

“Colmes was the most absurd, useless, and mocked television personality in America for many years, precisely because he was nice,” Chotiner wrote.

“In the context of Fox News, being a nice guy — and a ‘liberal’ nice guy at that — meant being a buffoon, and a patsy. Colmes not only played the part to perfection — he defined it,” the writer continued.

Apparently, in the eyes of Slate, the fact that Colmes was considered a good friend and colleague by the personalities at Fox News is worthy of condemnation in and of itself.

OC: Town, Union Reach Deal On Scheduling, Ratify New EMS Contract

OCEAN CITY — The Town of Ocean City and its firefighter-paramedic union reached an agreement Tuesday on a new contract that somewhat reflects a compromise on the controversial shift change, but at least one of the parties is not entirely pleased with all aspects of the new deal.

Last year, the deadline on the town’s new contract with the Career Firefighter Paramedics Association of Ocean City, of Local 4269, expired without an agreement on a variety of issues, most notably a change in the scheduling of shifts for the resort’s paramedics. With the deadline approaching last February, the IAFF 4269 negotiation team walked away when the town and its fire department administrators would not budge on a provision in the proposed contract that would eliminate the paramedics current shift schedule.

As a result, the town’s “last, best and final” offer essentially became the de facto contract by default as negotiations continued on a long-term deal. That three-year contract was ratified by the Local IAFF 4269 late on Tuesday although the union members are still not pleased with the changes to the shift rotations included in the deal.

Michigan Muslim Woman Openly Defends The Stabbing of Jews. Yes, All Jews…

This Michigan woman must be one of those moderate Muslims we’ve been hearing a lot about. Scratch that, it’s the moderate Muslims she’s mocking. You know, the ones who don’t support stabbing Jews

Allan disparaged Muslims who claim Islam does not allow stabbing attacks, accusing them of trying to be “muftis” and telling them to “go back to watching Turkish soap operas.”

Throughout the video, titled, “Is Stabbing Jews Haram [Forbidden]?” she notably used only the word “Jews” to describe the target of stabbing attacks, not “Israelis.”

Appearing to compare Jews to animals, she likened those who believe stabbings are prohibited under Islam to defenders of “animal rights – not human rights, but at best, animal rights.”

MEMRI reported that in 2012, Allan told Jordan’s Roya TV that she represented the State Department’s U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) in the Jameed Festival in Jordan, a food and culture event honoring rural women.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Maryland lawmaker under an ethics reviewsays Gov. Larry Hogan owes him an apology for saying he could be thrown out of the legislature for “illegal activities.”

Hogan made the comments Wednesday when asked about Del. Dan Morhaim’s proposal to create safe consumption spots for heroin addicts, which Hogan described as “insane.” The Republican governor went on to say Morhaim, a Democrat, could be thrown out of the legislature for his role shaping medical marijuana legislation and for being a consultant for a company seeking a license to grow marijuana.

Morhaim, a doctor, wrote in an email that Hogan’s statements are “patently false.” He says he strictly complied with ethics laws.

Hogan was asked about Morhaim’s legislation after declaring a state of emergency because of the state’s heroin crisis.

Trump Admin, Congress Behind Effort to Cut U.S. Aid to Palestinians

The White House is signaling its support for a new congressional effort to cut all U.S. funding to the Palestinian Authority due to its continued support of terrorism against Israelis and Americans, according to senior lawmakers and senior White House officials.

Leading lawmakers in the House and Senate gathered Tuesday on Capitol Hill to introduce legislation that would cut all U.S. funding to the Palestinian government, which has been criticized for providing financial incentives to terrorists who kill American and Israeli civilians.

The White House signaled its support for the legislation in a vast departure from the Obama administration, which worked against similar efforts when in power.

A senior White House official familiar with the effort told the Free Beacon that the Trump administration welcomes this effort and will sign it into law if it passes Congress.

"The Palestinian Authority's use of its resources to provide material support for terrorism—indiscriminately targeted at American and Israeli civilians—is a grotesque example of how well-intentioned U.S. generosity can be turned against us," a senior White House official told the Free Beacon.
