County Asked to Reduce City Taxpayer Burden

Mayor James Ireton, Jr. announced today, on behalf of City taxpayers, that new Wicomico County leaders must address, in FY16, the fiscal inequalities which have rested on the shoulders of City taxpayers for far too long.  Mayor Ireton will advance County Executive Bob Culver and County Council President John Cannon requests regarding the following fiscal issues:

1.)    Tax differential for Salisbury, Delmar and Fruitland.  An April, 2014 Municipal and Financial Services Group (MFSG) study estimates that Wicomico County owes the three municipalities the following for FY 2015:
    a.) City of Salisbury - $1,051,909
    b.) Town of Fruitland - $98,394
    c.) Town of Delmar - $55,015

The study assumes a base rate of $.955/per $100 of assessable real property without differential countywide, and calculates the following tax rates with tax differential for FY2015:

2.)    Fire Service Agreement 2015.  Data from the County G.I.S. and 911 Computer Aided Dispatch System indicates:
a.) The City responds to 62.95% of the total fire calls in the County
b.) The City responds to 66.71% of all EMS calls in the County
c.) The City serves 56.58% of the County population
d.) The City serves 58.38% of the County’s assessed valuation
e.) The City received only 23.87% of the County’s total funding for fire and EMS in FY14.

“City taxpayers are being unfairly forced to pay for the majority of the costs for county fire service.  The county must adopt a Fire Service Agreement which pays for provided services.  We as a city don’t give away septic service, we don’t give away water service, and we’re done giving away fire service.  The county must pay for the services it uses,” said Mayor Ireton.

These inequities amount to $2.22 Million dollars of Salisbury fire service provided to County residents that they do not pay for.  County residents get three times more fire service than they are paying for.  Mayor Ireton and all 5 City Council members have formally asked the county to adopt an assessable base option for fire and EMS in Wicomico County.  The assessable base model is used to provide for the costs for protecting/responding to calls for service demanded by, and directly related to, the amount of real properties and residents in a given fire district.

Mayor Ireton added, “City residents are bearing the unfair tax burden of providing County residents fire service for free.  We want City taxpayers to have their County taxes decreased to balance the subsidy the City is giving the County.

“As Mayor, I am delighted that Delegate-Elect Carl Anderton (R-38) has said that the first bill he will introduce in the legislature is one that will address the tax differential inequity.  His bill, to amend sections 6-305 and 6-306 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, will move Wicomico County from the “May” list of counties that provide tax offsets to municipalities in Maryland, to the “Shall” list of applicable counties.  This legislation would help solve the over-taxation of municipal residents in Wicomico County, and I will be watching its progress closely.”

Bennett Middle School Turning Out To Be A Massive Cluster...

"A hydric soil is a soil that formed under conditions of saturation, flooding, or ponding long enough during the growing season to develop anaerobic conditions in the upper part."

In 2012 we published this story and this story warning the public of just some of the obvious problems with the chosen location.

It turns out, not only is the delivery of the new Bennett Middle School going to be held back for quite a bit of time, contractors have been held back for months because the land, (as we originally stated) will NOT drain.

Oh, that's only the beginning. We've been informed that the second floor concrete is already cracking, also as we stated it would in our original articles.

To top it all off, Fredericksen had a geothermal heating and a/c system put in. Guess what, IT DOESN'T WORK! Not only does it not work, they're actually talking about putting in a boiler system instead.

So MILLIONS of dollars have been spent to deliver an efficient HVAC system and because the engineer designed it with the underground pipes too close to each other, scrap the whole thing and replace it with something else.

Now, while some of you might be thinking, County Executive Bob Culver needs to do something about this, WRONG! When I mentioned this to Mr. Culver he had never heard a word about it. Like you, I said, WHY? It turns out, Fredericksen is in charge of the whole thing and does NOT answer to the County, only to the state.

While it was Bob Culver who voted AGAINST this project because of its location and the soil issues, from what I gathered from his response he seemed quite upset. Yet he reminded me that there was NOTHING he could do about it.

It's a shame that while Fredericksen has to come to the County to move the original project through, he has no commitment to keep the County abreast of how the project is going, or not going.

Your Maryland Tax Dollars hard at work. You know what Ladies & Gentlemen, THIS is exactly the problem with LIBERALS running this sate. You have people in charge who have NO CLUE what they are doing and when things completely screw up, when we try to EDUCATE them well in advance, they seem to be smarter then us and when they FAIL, oh well, who gives a crap, it's only money. Long Live Hogan and Culver!

November Jobs Nos. in for Wicomico - Job Losses Continue to Mount as Wicomico Recorded Another (-1,091 Lost Jobs)

The US Bureau of Labor released its November compilation of jobs data for our nations Counties.  According to their latest report - Wicomico County's job base continues to erode as November was the 3rd worse month in the past year.  Wicomico lost another 1,091 jobs compared to November 2013.  Also - the unemployment rate spiked dramatically to 7.1% compared to the previous month - October's 6.6%.

November's jobs posting makes it the 23rd consecutive monthly jobs decline for Wicomico County.  It also reveals that Wicomico County has recorded negative jobs growth in 29 of the past 35 months.  The last time Wicomico reported a positive jobs number was in December of 2012.  Folks, we are not making this stuff-up.  As local municipal operating budgets are being adopted and departmental heads are vying for increases - Wicomico's 2nd largest revenues source - jobs - continues to diminish.

Reader's Note - it has been less than a year since Wicomico County finance Director Andy Mackel sought to readjust the employment base estimates for Wicomico County's operating budget.  During last February's Wicomico County Council meeting the County wrote down 3.47 million dollars trying to realign the local employment numbers to what actually transpired in our County's economy.

Obama: America Has Become ‘Less Racially Divided’ Under My Presidency

Amid racially charged protests and controversial police altercations, President BarackObama said the United States is less racially divided now than before he took office.

NPR released quote excerpts of an interview set to air on “Morning Edition” starting Monday, including one in which host Steve Inskeep asked if the country is more racially divided now compared to when Obama took office six years ago.

“No,” the president answered. “I actually think that it’s probably in its day-to-day interactions less racially divided.”

Inskeep also asked the president about working with a Congress where both houses are controlled by Republicans. Obama offered a familiar answer.

A Letter To The Editor: PET STORE LAWS

Joe,  Many people will be buying from Pet Stores
this year.   Not knowing where these puppies come from and suspecting  most come from Puppy Mills  it's wise for the purchaser  to KNOW what the Laws of Maryland require  Pet Shops to supply  the buyer with concerning the background of the puppy they are buying   & recourses they  have should the puppy be defective in any way.  These Laws
went into effect  a year ago.
The below information is given by the HSUS
An undercover investigation by The Humane Society of the United States and ReLove Animals, Inc., found most of the pet stores in Maryland that sell puppies are apparently not fully complying with a law designed to provide shoppers with information about the origin of their puppies. In September 2013, investigators visited 12 puppy-selling pet stores in Maryland. Specifically, investigators checked to see if the stores were fulfilling the requirement that ----they “post conspicuously on each dog's cage” the “state in which the breeder or dealer of the dog is located” and “the United States Department of Agriculture license number of the breeder or dealer.    This information is important because it could be used by a consumer to find out if the puppy they are considering purchasing may have come from a dealer (otherwise known as a broker) or breeder with a problematic animal welfare history. The law has been effective for the past yr.!
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
As for a dog being AKC Registered one would
think this  registration is a seal of quality for puppies.
Some  sellers use it as a marketing tool & buyers learn the hard way AKC Reg. is never a guarantee  nor even an indication of quality!!  No one inspects the parent dog or puppies to see if they're  qualified for registration!!
AKC depends on the breeder to be honest when applying for a litters registration.   It's not uncommon that Puppy Mill Dogs show an AKC registration leaving the buyer to think they've purchased a superior quality puppy.
Maryland & many other States have laws  to protect the buyer, called  "Puppy  Lemon Laws. "
Here are the Laws for the State of Maryland for Purchasers Protection Rights
At the time of sale, or at the request of a bona fide prospective purchaser, a retail pet store must provide a written record that includes the date of birth, breed, markings, dealer/breeder information, registration information, and all inoculations, worming treatments, and other medical treatments, if known, including the date of the medical treatment, the diagnoses, and the name and title of the treatment provider.
    MD BUS REG§19-703(a)(2)
    The retail pet store must also provide a health certificatefrom a veterinarian licensed certifying that the dog (i) has no known disease, illness, or congenital or hereditary condition which is diagnosable with reasonable accuracy; and (ii) that the dog does not appear to be clinically ill from parasitic infection at the time of the examination;
    MD BUS REG §19-704(a)(1)
The retail pet store must provide a statement ofpurchasers rights to the purchaser under this subtitle.
    MD BUS REG §19-704(a)(
Illness:If within 7 days after the date of the sale, the person had the dog examined by a veterinarian licensed in the State and, within 14 days after the date of the sale, the licensed veterinarian states in writing that the dog suffers from or has died of a disease or illness adversely affecting the health of the dog and that existed in the dog on or before the date of delivery to the purchaser, the purchaser is entitled to remedies.
    MD BUS REG §19-705(a)(1)(i) or
    Congenital Condition:
If within 180 days after the date of the sale, a licensed veterinarian states in writing that the dog possesses or has died of a congenital or hereditary condition adversely affecting the health of the dog or that requires hospitalization or a non elective surgical procedure, the purchaser is entitled to remedies.
    MD BUS REG §19-705(a)(1)(ii)

Hey Mayor Jim Ireton, Remember This Story?

BREAKING NEWS: Chlorine Leak In Pittsville

Back in September we broke the news that there was a serious chlorine lead in Pittsville.

The Hazmat Team came in from Salisbury and it included two Firefighters from Delmar.

What you DIDN'T know is that the City of Salisbury sent the County a bill for, get this, $14,836.81 for that incident.

So Mayor Ireton, STOP blowing smoke up everyone's A$$ that the County doesn't pay the City for their services. You are completely full of crap and as always, your Main Stream Media never told you about this information because, (once again) they do NO investigative reporting. They simply publish whatever the Mayor tells them or sends them and that's it.

That being said, I made some contacts today and have come to learn that Jim Ireton nor Jake Day have ever made contact with County Executive Bob Culver on this Fire Department issue. Jim and Jake are playing this entire thing out in the Court of Public Opinion, something Jim Ireton accuses me of often and has admitted so in several Press Releases.

Now IF your Main Stream Media had done ANY work on this matter they would have come to learn that the County seems to be the very LAST to know anything about it. In fact, I was told this morning that in EVERY case referencing this matter the County learned about it through Salisbury News, NOT the City or the Mayor's Office.

Finally, I'll add that Mayor Jim Ireton has never once come over to bob Culver's Office since he was elected. Not to congratulate him, not to fill him in on matters like this, NOTHING. It just goes to show you just how bitter and childish Jim Ireton is. Jake Day should also learn to refrain from attacks on the County Executive through Facebook "Like's". People are watching.

As for Carl Anderton, well, Carl better watch his steps as well. I'd strongly suggest that before he does an interview, he might want to go to the horses mouth FIRST before he puts his foot in his mouth again.

And for those of you who asked me if I would be just as hard on the Republicans as I have been on the Democrats all these years, there's my first example.

When New York City Police Walk Off the Job

Many members of the New York Police Department are furious at Mayor Bill de Blasio and, by extension, the city that elected him. They have expressed this anger with a solidarity tantrum, repeatedly turning their backs to show their collective contempt. But now they seem to have taken their bitterness to a new and dangerous level — by walking off the job.

The New York Post on Tuesday reported, and city officials confirmed, that officers are essentially abandoning enforcement of low-level offenses. According to data The Post cited for the week starting Dec. 22 — two days after two officers were shot and killed on a Brooklyn street — traffic citations had fallen by 94 percent over the same period last year, summonses for offenses like public drinking and urination were down 94 percent, parking violations were down 92 percent, and drug arrests by the Organized Crime Control Bureau were down 84 percent.

The data cover only a week, and the reasons for the plunge are not entirely clear. But it is so steep and sudden as to suggest a dangerous, deplorable escalation of the police confrontation with the de Blasio administration. Even considering the heightened tensions surrounding the officers’ deaths and pending labor negotiations — the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association has no contract, and its leader, Patrick Lynch, has been the most strident in attacking Mr. de Blasio, calling him a bloody accomplice to the officers’ murder — this action is repugnant and inexcusable. It amounts to a public act of extortion by the police.

    And for what?

Let’s review the actions that Mr. de Blasio’s harshest critics say have driven the police to such extremes.

    1. He campaigned on ending the unconstitutional use of “stop-and-frisk” tactics, which victimized hundreds of thousands of innocent young black and Latino men.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder OKs Drug Testing Welfare Recipients

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder signed a one-year pilot program into law on Friday that tests welfare recipients and applicants suspected of substance abuse.

Those suspected of using drugs will be tested using an “empirically validated substance abuse screening tool.” If the results come back positive, they’ll be referred to a treatment program and will have to continue submitting periodic drug tests. When those tests come back negative, their benefits can be restored. Those who refuse to comply will be suspended from receiving benefits for a six-month period.

The program will initially start in three yet-to-be-determined counties.

Nearly 100 gather at Maryland mall to spotlight racism, violence in Ferguson wake

WASHINGTON — They were old and young, black and white, and they all wanted to make one thing clear: The fight against racism inside and outside of law enforcement won’t end in 2015.

Nearly 100 people gathered at the Westfield Wheaton Mall to stage a New Year’s Day demonstration and “die-in” to spotlight the problems that sparked violence after the shooting of an unarmed black man in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014. They held signs that read “Black Lives Matter” and after the gathering inside, left the mall chanting “No Justice, No Peace!”

Ken Buckner, marketing director at Westfield Wheaton, said the group had approached the mall ahead of time and were granted permission for an orderly demonstration. A number of Montgomery County police officers were in the mall during the event, but kept a low profile — hanging back from the roped-off demonstration area and assisting with traffic flow outside when protesters crossed the street and headed to the nearby Metro station.

SALISBURY NEWS SOARS PAST 25,000,000 HITS IN 2014

Being born in the early 1960's, ONE Million, (back then) was a HUGE number.

We'd pull up to McDonald's back then and it would say, "Over One Million Served" and that was BIG. In the seventies McDonald's changed their signs to say, "Millions Served". Today it says, "Billions Served".

So how should we feel here at Salisbury News when we announce we've exceeded 25,000,000, I don't know.

I will say this, however. Salisbury News has been providing a free service for 10 years now. It was never our intention to be as big as we are today. We simply wanted to share news and information your local media refused to provide. Love us or hate us, we've done an outstanding job doing just that.

I can recall the first year we started this local Blog. We'd get a hundred hits a day and think, people are listening. The next year it would be something like 250 people a day and we thought, man, we've really grown. Today, well, I guess 25,000,000 would be considered pretty substantial by many.

Friends would regularly tell me, get on Facebook, Twitter, hook up with this group or that group and your numbers will soar. I refused to participate in the numbers game because my intent and goal was to have people come here who WANT to be here. I wanted to deliver REAL results for our advertisers by delivering LOCAL traffic.

I also remember sitting with friends smoking cigars 10 years ago while we all discussed what we thought was the next up and coming business out there. The main topic, Blogs. Many wondered, what the hell is a Blog. Well, here we are today entering 2015 and I have to admit, even Bill Duvall would be very proud of what we've accomplished.

So where do we go from here. Well, I'm not at liberty to expose what we'll be doing in 2015 at the moment but I will tell you that there have been many discussion and plans about where we are headed and while I would have like to announce it today, it would be premature. I will say this though, it is very big and very ahead of its time.

Throughout 2015 your other Main Stream Media outlets will have to start preparing to truly step aside as Salisbury News WILL be raising the bar and possibly place ALL other media sources into positions they more than likely will not be able to compete.

We will be aggressively reaching out to advertisers while still maintaining our $100.00 a month advertising fee. Could we demand a lot more, absolutely. However, the point to what we do is not to get rich. However, it is not to LOSE money either. We simply want to help ALL businesses in a very tough economy survive and grow. We want to continue taking advertising dollars and "Pay It Forward".

All that being said, THANK YOU! Our greatest reward is actual traffic increases on a daily basis and you have certainly proven to deliver.

New Years Day is the only day we provide one article but this New Years Day we will instead deliver the Top 25 articles of the year at 9:00 AM. We chose to go by the largest volume of comments. Can you guess what the #1 Post of the year was?

Wishing you the very best throughout 2015.

Man sentenced for hiring unauthorized workers

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A man who owned a D.C.-area pool company has been sentenced for hiring people who were not legally authorized to work in the United States.

According to his plea agreement, Vincent was the owner of RSV Pools, a company that provided lifeguards and pool maintenance. Prosecutors say Vincent hired at least 12 people who were not authorized to work in the country.

This Chain's Brooklyn Store Is Refusing To Serve ANY Police Officer And The Reason Will Leave You Boycotting Them

Chipotle restaurants across the country were recently in the news for the horrific messages they printed on their take-out bags, but with this most recent stunt, they’ve gone entirely too far.

When employees at a Chipotle restaurant in Brooklyn did this to two NYPD police officers, they not only disrespected the officers, but also our country.

When the two police officers walked into the restaurant hoping to enjoy their lunch, they found the employees doing something unbelievably disrespectful.

The employees were standing behind the counter and greeted the officers with their hands raised saying, “Hands up, don’t shoot.” The officers were ignored and not served. The officers decided to avoid these thugs and quietly exited the restaurant.

    Monsanto Tries Patenting Natural Tomatoes

Biotech giant attempts to own biosphere

Many individuals are aware that biotech has developed a seed monopoly largely by patenting genetically modified organisms, but not everyone realizes that Monsanto tried to patent a tomato that had no biotech traits. Now, the European Patent Office (EPO), with help from an international coalition, No Patents on Seeds!, has revoked Monsanto’s fraudulent patent and claim to tomatoes that are naturally resistant to a fungal disease called botrytis.

These natural, non-GMO tomatoes, like many healthy plants, have a natural resistance to certain pests. In this case, a fungal disease, but this is not a novel phenomenon. Why Monsanto would try to claim they created it is about as believable as Syngenta or Dow saying they invented the sun.

Though plant breeders can help plants develop this natural pest resistance, much of it is innate – the same as our own immune systems. When individual plants reproduce, they pass along exceptional combinations of genes to their offspring. Varying environments (such as cold, or dry, moist or breezy) favor individuals with different physical and behavioral traits. Individual plants with genes that improve their survival will be more likely to pass along these genes compared to the rest of the population.

Muslim U.S. Congressman Busted Working With Terrorist Frontman

One of the two sitting U.S. Congressmen who happen to also be Muslim was caught working together with a known frontman and fundraiser for terrorist groups.

Indiana Representative Andre Carson (D) took part in a major Islamic convention in Chicago this weekend. The convention was hosted and sponsored by the Muslim American Society (MAS) and the Islamic Circle of North America.

Carson was a featured guest on a panel discussing the events in Ferguson and beyond. He was joined on that panel by a man named Mazen Mokhtar, who is known for operating an Al Qaeda website and fundraising for the Taliban.

It is presumed that Carson knew who Mokhtar is, and it is certain that the FBI knows who Mokhtar is, as he was named in a 2004 federal investigation of a UK-based Al Qaeda website that raised money for the Taliban, among other terrorist organizations. Mokhtar stands accused of operating a US-based mirror website of the one in the UK, according to PJ Media.

As per the Washington Post: “Mazen Mokhtar, an Egyptian-born imam and political activist, operated a Web [sic] site identified in an affidavit unsealed Friday by the U.S. attorney’s office in Connecticut. The Web site solicited funds for the Taliban and Chechen mujaheddin, according to the affidavit. It is an exact replica of Web [sic] sites operated by Babar Ahmad, who was arrested in England on a U.S. extradition warrant this week.”

What Does It Mean to Be Anti-Police?

Apparently, to criticize the police is to be anti-police. But if I call and point out that the swings in the playground are broken, am I anti-parks?

In the wake of the horrific killing of two NYPD officers, police union officials and their political allies have worked to isolate and vilify police accountability and racial justice activists. By claiming that the shooter was motivated by the protests they argue both that the protests should be suppressed and that there is no space for public criticism of the police. Both of these are profoundly troubling claims.

So far the policing of the protests in New York and many parts of the country have been tolerant and flexible and have helped to maintain the overall nonviolent character of the protests. The notable exceptions being Ferguson and Berkeley, where in both cases dissent was pre-emptively suppressed in a way that directly contributed to the outbreak of violence and property destruction.

New York City police union president Patrick Lynch said that it was the protests that led to the killing of the officers and that they shouldn’t be allowed to continue. This is revealing of a mindset of many police that there is something fundamentally inappropriate about protests and that the default position should be to discourage and if possible prevent them. It also speaks to a basic intolerance of police for disorder. Demonstrations by their nature are disorderly and disruptive and police find that at best off-putting and at worst dangerous.

Toddler accidentally shoots and kills his mother in Idaho Wal-Mart, police say

A woman was killed in an Idaho Wal-Mart Tuesday morning when her 2-year-old son accidentally shot her, according to local authorities.

Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Stu Miller said in a statement that the boy was seated in a shopping cart when he reached into his mother’s purse and fired the gun.

The 29-year-old woman, who deputies found dead on the scene “from an apparent gunshot wound,” had been shopping with the toddler and other family members, Miller said.

BREAKING NEWS: UMES PA Program and Students In Serious Trouble

Someone in the program told us about this and says it's serious. They are halfway through the program and they don't know if their degree will be useful if the school doesn't get off this probation.
From the UMES PA Program website:Accreditation Statement

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has placed the Physician Assistant program sponsored by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Accreditation- Probation status until its next validation review in September 2015.

Probation is a temporary status of accreditation conferred when a program does not meet theStandards and when the capability of the program to provide an acceptable educational experience for its students is threatened.

Once placed on probation, programs that still fail to comply with accreditation requirements in a timely manner, as specified by the ARC-PA, may be scheduled for a focused site visit and/or risk having their accreditation withdrawn.

Specific questions regarding the Program and its plans should be directed to the Program Director and/or the appropriate institutional official(s).

Time let Pete Rose, Baseball’s All-Time Hits Leader, into The Hall

It’s been 26 years since Pete Rose has been banned from Baseball for a crime that’s culturally lees relevant today than it was in 1989. And given the fact that states around the country are looking to legalize gambling to fill their coffers with tax revenue, why should Rose continue to suffer?

Yes, Pete Rose bet on baseball games. For a time he lied about doing it. But, 26 years seems like quite enough punishment for a 73 year old man to pay. I can think of 4,256 reasons why Pete Rose deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

No other player in baseball history has more hits than Rose. Perhaps no other man played the game harder than he did? He wasn’t the fastest, or the best skilled player in the game. He never had the power of Babe Ruth, or the swiftness of Lou Brock. But, nobody that ever played the game was as hungry for base hits as he. If he had 2 hits in a game, he wanted the third. If he’d gone 4 for 4 with another at bat and made an out, he would be disappointed with his performance.

    That was Pete Rose!

He belongs with the All-Time greats and it should happen while he’s still alive because enough is enough!

    Stop Lying About the Police

We have heard a lot lately about tensions between the police and the communities that they serve, and the urgent need to reduce them. Here’s an easy first step: Stop lying about the cops.

The “national conversation” about race and policing we’ve been having ever since Michael Brown was shot by Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Mo., last summer has been based on lies. The lie that Officer Wilson shot Brown while he had his hands up and was pleading “Don’t shoot.” The lie that New York City policemen targeted Eric Garner for a violent arrest because he was black. The lie, peddled especially by the progressive prince of New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio, that the police are racist.

These are the lies that fuel hatred for the police, because if the police routinely execute black men in cold blood and serve a thoroughly racist system, they deserve to be hated. They should be the subject of nightly protests. They should be showered with obloquy. They should be harried by Attorney General Eric Holder. They should be considered a stain on the national conscience to be extricated at all costs.

This is the line of reasoning that leads to protesters chanting: “What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want them? Now.”

His rote praise of the police notwithstanding, especially now that he is under so much political pressure after the murders of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, Mayor de Blasio is deeply invested in this smear. It is why he has made career anti-police agitator Al Sharpton practically deputy police commissioner. It is why he considers the police a clear and present danger to his biracial son, Dante. It is why he said the tragic death of Eric Garner in police custody was the product of “centuries of racism.”

U.S. Supreme Court Rules 8-1 that Citizens Have No Protection Against Fourth Amendment Violations by Police Officers Ignorant of the Law

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a blow to the constitutional rights of citizens, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 8-1 in Heien v. State of North Carolina that police officers are permitted to violate American citizens’ Fourth Amendment rights if the violation results from a “reasonable” mistake about the law on the part of police. Acting contrary to the venerable principle that “ignorance of the law is no excuse,” the Court ruled that evidence obtained by police during a traffic stop that was not legally justified can be used to prosecute the person if police were reasonably mistaken that the person had violated the law. The Rutherford Institute had asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hold law enforcement officials accountable to knowing and abiding by the rule of law. Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the Court’s lone dissenter, warned that the court’s ruling “means further eroding the Fourth Amendment’s protection of civil liberties in a context where that protection has already been worn down.”

The Rutherford Institute’s amicus brief in Heien v. North Carolina is available at www.rutherford.org.

“By refusing to hold police accountable to knowing and abiding by the rule of law, the Supreme Court has given government officials a green light to routinely violate the law,” said John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute and author of the award-winning book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State. “This case may have started out with an improper traffic stop, but where it will end—given the turbulence of our age, with its police overreach, military training drills on American soil, domestic surveillance, SWAT team raids, asset forfeiture, wrongful convictions, and corporate corruption—is not hard to predict. This ruling is what I would call a one-way, nonrefundable ticket to the police state.”

Obama’s Golf Plans Force Army Captains to Relocate Their Wedding

Two Army captains were forced to do some last-minute scrambling when they found out they had to move their wedding because President Barack Obama wanted to go golfing.

Bloomberg reported that Natalie Heimel and Edward Mallue Jr. were due to be married at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course on Sunday when they were informed just one day out that they would have to relocate because their commander in chief wanted to play a round.

The couple had actually invited Obama to attend their nuptials, knowing he would be in town for holidays. He’d sent his regrets earlier Saturday — but then they heard from the White House again.

“It was kind of ironic they got the letter from them and then, within hours, they were told they had to be moved due to him,” the groom’s sister, Jamie McCarthy, told Bloomberg. “It was emotional, especially for her — she’s the bride and in less than 24 hours they had to change everything they had planned.”

FBI Investigating Fatal Dog Shooting In Glen Burnie Park

Feldhaus was in town visiting her daughter for the holidays. She said she was walking her daughter’s 5-year-old great Dane, named Fynn, alongside her 4-year-old grandson Friday morning.

    Kwanzaa -- A Made-up Holiday

Did you know that "Kwanzaa," that made-up holiday celebrated from December 26 through January 1, was invented by Ron N. Everett, known today as Dr. Maulana (Swahili for "master teacher") Karenga? About Kwanzaa, Karenga said:

People think it’s African. But it’s not. I wanted to give black people a holiday of their own. So I came up with Kwanzaa. I said it was African because you know black people in this country wouldn’t celebrate it if they knew it was American. Also, I put it around Christmas because I knew that’s when a lot of bloods [blacks] would be partying!

Did you know that Karenga was a founder of "United Slaves", a group that was quite similar in philosophy to the Black Panthers? The two groups had different tactics, but often competed for the same potential recruits. So an altercation was inevitable. On January 17, 1969, at a Black Student Union meeting at UCLA, Black Panther Alprentice "Bunchy" Carter was heard making derogatory comments about Karenga. Carter was shot to death. The Black Panthers swear it was preplanned.

Or that Karenga was convicted in 1971 for torturing two women? He pressed a hot soldering iron against their faces and put their fingers in a vise in an effort to get them to offer up some nonexistent "crystals" of poison. It seems that the paranoid Karenga thought he was being poisoned. Nice guy, this Kwanzaa founder.

Or that in his book The Quotable Karenga, Karenga wrote "The sevenfold path of blackness is think black, talk black, act black, create black, buy black, vote black, and live black"? Is this the source of "seven," a number seen often in Kwanzaa? It certainly explains why he wanted a black holiday.

11 Year Old Child Missing In Salisbury

While the Salisbury Police Department once again holds off any official Press Release, they did make contact with Mayor Jim Ireton's best buddies at WMDT to inform the public a child is missing and has been since since Wednesday, (of all things).

With all due respect, WMDT has the least amount of traffic and why the City refuses to spread the word is truly beyond me but it is what it is. The child is described as a 90 pound black male about 3 feet tall wearing a black jacket.

Salisbury Police are allegedly calling this "CRITICAL" because of his being so small for his age. There is NOTHING on Facebook or Twitter referencing this matter either.

Hey Barbara Duncan and Jim Ireton, IF you want results, if we can reunite animals in a matter of minutes, I'm confident we could have found someone who had seen this child and or even know of his location just as quickly.

I am absolutely amazed that both Barbara and Jim have proven they don't care about a missing black child or they would have come to us first. Let's see, he went missing Wednesday and now it's Sunday.

There is no picture available to show you what this child looks like.  He resides on the 600 block of West Main Street. Merry Christmas Barbara and Jim. Keep up the outstanding work!

Since they are seeking the public's assistance why aren't they using SOCIAL MEDIA to let the public know.

MallBrawl: Mobs of teens close down malls across America

Shoppers and retailers at malls across America were shocked by mobs of teens this weekend. The bizarre phenomenon followed a strikingly similar trajectory. Teens would appear en masse at a mall, where fights would break out involving separate groups. Another common thread is that the skirmishes often originated at the food court. The fighting became so disruptive that malls were forced to close in Missouri, California, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Illinois.

Several of the stories interestingly indicated that witnesses reported shots fired; but in all of those cases, officials said that there is no evidence to support those claims. Mall spokespeople vastly diminished the incidents as “isolated.”

A Letter To The Editor & Others: News your local media refused to provide attracts millions!

Congratulations are due to publisher Joe Albero!

In the past year his Salisbury News website has received over 25 million hits from folks hungry for:

"news and information your local media refused to provide"

Based in Salisbury, Md. -- which happens to be the corporate home of Perdue Farms -- Salisbury News is unafraid to publish facts about Perdue of concern to citizens across the U.S. This includes Pennsylvania residents whom powerful Perdue has spent the last four years trying to pollute by needlessly dumping toxic waste hexane into their air.

Dealing with lots more than environment and Perdue, Salisbury News deserves praise for printing all kinds of information traditional media won't or maybe no longer can. News readers increasingly expect self-serving political and corporate press releases to make front-page headlines -- and truth spoken by others to be routinely minimized if not totally ignored.

    God bless independent Salisbury News.

Today's article about it’s success -- along with a hint about its future -- is here:
