Nearly 100 gather at Maryland mall to spotlight racism, violence in Ferguson wake

WASHINGTON — They were old and young, black and white, and they all wanted to make one thing clear: The fight against racism inside and outside of law enforcement won’t end in 2015.

Nearly 100 people gathered at the Westfield Wheaton Mall to stage a New Year’s Day demonstration and “die-in” to spotlight the problems that sparked violence after the shooting of an unarmed black man in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014. They held signs that read “Black Lives Matter” and after the gathering inside, left the mall chanting “No Justice, No Peace!”

Ken Buckner, marketing director at Westfield Wheaton, said the group had approached the mall ahead of time and were granted permission for an orderly demonstration. A number of Montgomery County police officers were in the mall during the event, but kept a low profile — hanging back from the roped-off demonstration area and assisting with traffic flow outside when protesters crossed the street and headed to the nearby Metro station.

  1. Just another part of the slow eruption , makes you wonder.
As we move forward with the Ferguson event we will learn to
accept lawless events as a way of life without prosecution ie , it's ok to rob banks and steal , it's ok to assault people , it's ok to disrupt people going about everyday chores or shopping , it's ok to use police in these issues when they could be on the streets.
I have thought long and hard about the Ferguson issue with this officer.
The officer made a very big mistake , he should have at least planted a gun on this guy. He should have shot at the genital area to ensure reproduction would be impossible for this animal.
I will also tell every police officer , carry an unregistered weapon for a plant.

  2. Arrest them all. The lives of others need not be interrupted whilst they protest.

  6. If I would have come upon these thugs on the floor, I would have kept walking right over them.

  7. That is private property. The law does not apply.

Protesting is protected on public (government) property. Since the mall is private property, they would have to obtain permission from the owners to do this "protest" legally.

They should have all been arrested immediately.

  8. Sorry, I read it so quickly that I failed to realize that they had a roped off area in which to "protest". So it appears that they did indeed have permission.
    Sad Sad Sad.
Hope the owners of the Westfield Wheaton Mall are proud.

  11. I imagine these people have nothing better to do and don't realize how stupid this makes them look.

  12. Why such vitriol over what appears to be a legal and peaceful protest? Our constitution is not just for the easy stuff. It is for all the stuff. I understand that the small minded "just don't do anything wrong and you won't have anything to worry about" sheep want everything to be good only in their minds. That is however, not the case.

  13. 10:13 Apples and Oranges. What does the NRA have to do with this? Logic, not even once.

  14. Employee at our local mall told me this was also done in front of Macy's last week...lots of police presence standing by....didn't hear about it on the MSM...anyone else hear about this?

  15. Yes 11:19 it did happen. Officers were told by mall management not to do anything because they did want to lose business.

  16. I imagine these "protesters" spent at least some of the money they received in the Mall stores.

  17. 7:57: They're allowed to peacefully protest. Nothing peaceful about disrupting others' lives. Arrest them all if they're not!

  20. Anonymous number one you must be a cop because very things you stated is what they do Lie ,plant weapons and drugs on. You are a Redneck Devil. When people committee crimes they should be arrested, brought to trail and tried by their peers. The police should not be the judge prosecutor and executioner. You don't even believe in your own constitution, however your thinking is like most racist cowards .You are like (KKK) or could be Klansman , because now as you know they wear robes (Black)badges and uniforms.
