Providence Mayor Signs Executive Order to Pursue Reparations for Black and Native American Residents

Mayor Jorge Elorza signed an executive order on Wednesday to pursue a “truth-telling and reparations process” in the Rhode Island city.

Elorza’s efforts come on the heels of Ashville, North Carolina, approving reparations that will “make investments in areas where Black residents face disparities.”

The Providence mayor announced his similar intentions during a press conference on Wednesday.

“Today’s announcement is a commitment that we’re making to a process,” Elorza said during a press conference.

"Death Yard" - Where Rental Cars Go To Die

Several months ago, we noticed parking lots across the US were quickly filling up with rental cars as the entire car rental industry collapsed. The virus-induced recession crushed the travel and tourism industry, so it would only make sense that indirect industries, like rental cars, would get hammered.

In May, rental car fleets were being shifted from airports to massive parking lots at sports stadiums from Philipedia to Los Angeles; the pictures below show the magnitude of the collapse:

15 female ex-Redskins employees accuse co-workers of sexual harassment

Fifteen former Washington Redskins female employees are accusing the NFL organization of sexual harassment and fostering a toxic culture of verbal abuse and ignoring complaints, according to an explosive report by the Washington Post.

The women say they were subject to unwelcome comments about their bodies and sexual advances, and encouraged to dress provocatively and flirt with sales clients. Of the five male employees primarily accused of misconduct, two were fired and one retired within the past week as the newspaper presented findings from conducting more than 40 interviews and reviewing internal documents and text messages to the team for reaction.

Team owner Daniel Snyder is not accused of sexual harassment but members of his inner circle are, and he was blamed for understaffing a human relations department and publicly belittling employees, which created fear of backlash, within the report.

NOT MAKING NATIONAL HEADLINES: Black Mass Shooter Kills Two Random Men in Indiana Before Being Gunned Down by CCW Holder (VIDEO)

On Wednesday 22-year-old black male Joshua Hayes traveled a few miles outside Indianapolis to Brownsburg, a neighboring community. Joshua Hayes stopped his car, got out and started shooting at the first people he saw – two white males working at a cemetery.

One victim was hit, and fell in the road. Shooter Hayes walked up to him and shot him three times point blank in the chest killing him. Hayes then chased the second man down shooting at him and hitting him. Joshua Hayes then approached the wounded man, and as his gun was pointed at the second victim’s head, a man sitting in his car (which was hit by bullets) witnessing all of this and a concealed carry weapon holder, got out of his vehicle and shot the shooter dead.

Georgia father arrested after attacking man in 14-year-old daughter's room, police say

He allegedly beat, choked and fired gunshots at the man

A Georgia man is under arrest after severely beating and choking a man he found inside his 14-year-old daughter's bedroom, authorities said.

Ismael Casillas, 41, found Keywontrezes Humphries, 20, inside his daughter's room in their Coweta County home on July Fourth and erupted in anger, investigators told WAGA-TV in Atlanta.

He began to choke and beat Humphries, knocking out some of his teeth in the process, authorities said. He then asked his wife for a gun and followed Humphries after he jumped out of a window in an effort to escape, according to the news outlet.

In the front yard, Casillas allegedly resumed the beating and fired several shots through the neighborhood as Humphries fled on foot.

Jonathan Turley calls out CNN's 'telling moment of dissonance' amid unrelenting anti-Trump coverage

Tapper fact-checked colleagues after McEnany criticism

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley praised CNN’s Jake Tapper Friday for fact-checking his colleague Jim Acosta, writing in a blistering column that the liberal network needs more of these moments if it wants to be seen again as “honest and objective."

“There was a telling moment of dissonance on CNN this week, a network that is now unrelenting in its negative and highly partisan coverage of the Administration,” Turley wrote.

Cuomo, facing criticism for COVID handling, blames Trump for virus coming to New York

'If Trump's government had done its job, the virus wouldn't have come here,' the New York governor says

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, facing fresh criticism for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic that saw his state suffer tens of thousands of deaths within months, is blaming President Trump for the virus coming to New York in the first place.

"If Trump's government had done its job, the virus wouldn't have come here," Cuomo said Thursday on CNN. "The virus didn't come here because of anything New Yorkers did, the virus came here because the federal government missed it."

The number of deaths in the Empire State is over 30,000, dwarfing the death tolls in other states. Cuomo has been criticized in particular for a now-reversed policy that sent COVID patients into nursing homes.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper pushed back this week in a Twitter thread against Cuomo’s “crowing” about New York’s handling of the virus. He also highlighted a poster that Cuomo had put out declaring “New York Tough” and dinging President Trump. Tapper noted what was missing from the poster.

Maryland’s Economic Recovery Continues: State Adds 68,300 Jobs in June, Unemployment Rate Drops to 8%

All Three Major Rating Agencies Reaffirm Maryland’s AAA Bond Rating
State Gained 96,700 Jobs In May and June
Nearly 28% Lower Than National Unemployment Rate, Better Than 32 Other States

ANNAPOLIS, MD—The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics today reported that the State of Maryland added 68,300 jobs in June, and the unemployment rate decreased to 8.0%—nearly 28% lower than the national unemployment rate and better than 32 other states in the nation. In May and June, as the state began its COVID-19 recovery, Maryland gained 96,700 jobs.

Maryland’s unemployment rate is the lowest in the region, including Virginia at 8.4% and the District of Columbia at 8.6%.

“Our economy is open, recovering, and doing better than many other states, but only the people of Maryland can keep our state open for business by continuing to follow public health guidance,” said Governor Hogan. “In Maryland, we were able to keep more than 70 percent of our economy open throughout this entire crisis without shutting down, and 98 percent of our economy is now open and able to operate in a safe way. We have already gained back nearly 97,000 jobs, and our unemployment rate has stayed much lower than the national rate, far better than most states in America, and is the very best among all the states in our region.”

On Wednesday, State Treasurer Nancy Kopp announced that the three major bond rating agencies have reaffirmed the State’s AAA bond rating, all with stable outlooks.

Also this week, Governor Hogan announced that the State of Maryland has uncovered a massive and sophisticated criminal enterprise involving more than 47,500 fraudulent unemployment insurance claims in Maryland and totaling over $501 million. Maryland’s swift and decisive actions to notify federal authorities and expose this illegal scheme helped shed light on related fraudulent criminal activity in other states across the country. The Maryland Department of Labor continues to coordinate on the ongoing investigation with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the DOL-OIG.

According to today’s report, the Leisure and Hospitality sector experienced the most growth with an increase of 23,200 jobs. The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities sector increased by 14,900 jobs from the Retail Trade (10,100); Transportation, Warehousing, and Utilities (3,200); and Wholesale Trade (1,600) subsectors. Other sectors that experienced growth include: Other Services (9,000); Education and Health Services (7,900); Mining, Logging, and Construction (5,700); Manufacturing (2,300); and Professional and Business Services (1,300).

Seattle City Council Member Suggests Firing White Officers In Massive Reduction Of Police Department

The Seattle City Council is facing something of a dilemma in its popular pledge of the Seattle City Council to cut the police budget by 50 percent. To do so would require firing a significant number of police officers, which is also popular. The problem is that the firing would be done by seniority and many of the less senior officers are black.

The solution according to City Council member Lisa Herbold is simple: fire officers based on their race.

While that would be the definition of racial discrimination, Herbold clearly believes that it is discrimination for a good cause. The federal courts are likely to disagree. Most notably, Herbold’s call for racial discrimination against white officers would seek to undue the work of Justice Thurgood Marshall who insisted that racial discrimination unlawful and evil regardless of the race you want to disenfranchise or discriminate against.

Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best released a video calling the plan of Herbold and others “completely reckless.” She also sent a letter to Mayor Jenny Durkan warning that dramatic cuts would require the layoff of hundreds of officers. The Police Department also warned that the firings would include many minority officers.

The Department has made a conscious effort to hire employees, both sworn and civilian, who represent the diversity and values within our community. 3/4— Seattle Police Dept. (@SeattlePD) July 10, 2020

Pompeo: C.C.P. Hid Human-to-Human Transmission of COVID, W.H.O. ‘Co-Opted’

On Thursday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Bill Hemmer Reports,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated that the Chinese Communist Party knew of person-to-person transmission of the coronavirus before they told the rest of the world about it and that the World Health Organization “was co-opted” into the effort to hide needed knowledge from the rest of the world.

Pompeo said, “[I]t is the case that the Chinese Communist Party was aware of human-to-human transmission before they shared this with the world. And that the World Health Organization itself was co-opted into the same effort to deny the world the knowledge it needed to respond to this threat, to this threat from the virus that emanated from Wuhan, China.”

New network tracks ammonia in Maryland’s ambient air

A new ambient air monitoring network on Maryland’s Eastern Shore is up and running. The monitoring network, jointly supported by Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc., The Keith Campbell Foundation for the Environment, and the Maryland Department of the Environment, is the first to measure ambient ammonia levels on the Eastern Shore as well as in Baltimore City.

Beginning in April, two collection stations have measured continuous ammonia, fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and coarse particulate matter (PM10) on the Lower Eastern Shore. One station, near Pocomoke City, is in an area with a relatively high density of poultry houses, while a Princess Anne station is in an area where fewer poultry houses are nearby. For comparison purposes, near real-time concentrations of NH3 and PM-2.5 are being measured at existing stations in downtown Baltimore City and the Horn Point Lab, near Cambridge. All data in the monitoring network, including hourly data and monthly summaries, is being collected and fully publicly available from the Maryland Department of the Environment atmde.maryland.gov/programs/Air/AirQualityMonitoring/Pages/Lower-Eastern-Shore-Monitoring-Project.aspx.

DPI, the Campbell Foundation and MDE agreed in 2019 to collaborate to build the new network, with the nongovernmental partners committing more than $500,000 to the effort to keep taxpayer costs to a minimum. MDE had sole authority to determine the sites of the two new monitoring stations and is operating the stations.

“The launch of this data-gathering effort reflects the chicken community’s firm commitment to transparency and to being a good neighbor,” said Holly Porter, DPI’s executive director. “We share with all Marylanders an interest in better understanding how farms, suburbs, and denser cities can coexist on the Eastern Shore, and this ambient air monitoring network furthers that understanding. We look forward to all stakeholders having the opportunity to review the data this network will supply.”

“The Campbell Foundation is participating in this partnership to develop a better understanding of the actual environmental conditions in the region and to advance productive conversations on environmental stressors in the Bay watershed,” said Samantha Campbell, president of the Campbell Foundation. “In this first year of data collection, we want to expand our reach to community members who have expressed concern over air quality effects on human health. We want to understand the local perspective on where our help could be most valuable.”

Governors Call on the Administration to Delay Changes to Hospital Reporting Requirements

WASHINGTON—The National Governors Association, on behalf of the governors in all 55 states and territories, urges the Trump administration to delay the changes to hospital reporting requirements announced on Monday for 30 days.

“These sudden changes by the federal administration impose undue burdens on our state health departments and hospital systems, which are already working at full capacity,” said Governor Larry Hogan, chair of the National Governors Association. “To demand these changes be made in a matter of hours is unreasonable, but to take it a step further and threaten to jeopardize supplies of remdesivir is unconscionable. A delay of these changes is clearly in the best interests of our patients, hospitals, and health departments as we continue to navigate this unprecedented crisis.”

A letter to governors, signed by Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx, was sent Monday evening, requiring the use of a new reporting mechanism for hospitals, daily reporting from hospitals, and additional data to be included. The administration implemented these changes effective as of Wednesday.

The administration has stated that they plan to utilize this data to better allocate supplies and drugs to states. To ensure the accurate reporting of this data, governors are requesting a 30-day delay of these new requirements, in order for hospitals to learn a new system, as they continue to deal with this pandemic. In addition, governors urge the administration to make this information publicly available.

Black Lives Matter statue erected in the UK gets taken down within 24 hours

That was quick.

A statue dedicated to a British Black Lives Matter activist was installed on a plinth in the U.K. that was once occupied by a statue of a wealthy merchant trader who was involved in the slave trade. However, within 24 hours, the Black Lives Matter sculpture was taken down.

During a protest on June 7 in the city of Bristol in southwest England, vandals tore down a statue of Edward Colston. He was a 17th-century member of Parliament, philanthropist, and merchant involved in the transatlantic slave trade. In the wake of the George Floyd protests, rioters toppled the 125-year-old statue of Colston and dumped it into the harbor.

On Wednesday, a new statue was raised on the pedestal where Colston's monument once stood. The new statue was a tribute to Jen Reid, a Bristol-based Black Lives Matter activist. The life-size black resin and steel sculpture of the BLM protester was created by British artist Marc Quinn, who titled the artwork "A Surge of Power (Jen Reid) 2020."

Unemployed Americans Spent More With $600 Weekly Boost Than Before Pandemic; That's About To Go Away

At the end of this month, millions of unemployed Americans are set to lose their $600-per-week federal unemployment boost on top of their standard benefit. The program, part of the CARES Act, constituted a good portion of the $108.5 billion the US Treasury paid towards unemployment benefits in June.

And according to a new study released Thursday, Americans who received enhanced unemployment benefits spent roughly10% more than when they were working, according to Reuters. This of course makes sense, as some 63% of jobless workers making more on unemployment than when they were working.

Researchers analyzed transactions for 61,000 households that received unemployment benefits between March and May. Spending dropped for all households as the virus spread and led to business shutdowns, but then rose when households began receiving jobless benefits, the study found.

That contrasts with a typical recession, when households receiving unemployment benefits usually cut spending by 7% because regular jobless benefits amount to only a fraction of a person’s prior earnings, the research found. -Reuters

"Some folks are getting unemployment benefits that are larger than what they were getting paid [at] their previous jobs. That really potentially creates some wealth disincentive effects," said Harvard Economics professor Raj Chetty earlier this month at an event sponsored by the left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

Schumer unveils $350B Economic Justice Act to fight 'systemic racism'

Senate Democrats want money invested in minority and underserved communities hardest hit by COVID-19 crisis

Senate Democrats on Thursday released a $350 billion plan to tackle "systemic racism" and "historic underinvestment" in communities of color that have been hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic and economic downturn.

The Economic Justice Act calls for 10 major investments over the next five years to help communities of color with child care, health care, jobs programs, infrastructure improvements and housing assistance.

Senate Democrats framed their proposal as a down payment on calls to address systemic racism and economic disparities that have been spotlighted in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and the death of George Floyd. There's a growing movement underway for Congress to tackle the disparities through slavery reparations to African Americans.

Experts recommend 1 alcoholic drink per day for men, women

'Our collective health would be better if people generally drank less'
Regardless of your gender, if your daily hobby is drinking — limiting yourself to one a day is best.

That’s the new advice that experts are recommending for the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which are scheduled to be updated later this year for the first time in five years. The guidelines now say men should limit themselves to two drinks a day, and that women should limit themselves to one. That advice has been in place since 1990.

In a report released Wednesday, a committee of experts noted there isn’t adequate evidence to support different alcohol recommendations for men and women, and that research supports tightening the limit for men. U.S. health agencies that issue dietary guidelines aren’t required to adopt the committee’s recommendations.

Ilhan Omar’s payments to husband’s firm hit $1 million in 2020 cycle

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., continues to dish out six-figure payments to her husband's firm, which has now received more than $1 million from her campaign this cycle.

Federal Election Commission records released Tuesday afternoon show that Omar's campaign funneled $228,384.93 last quarter to the E Street Group, a D.C.-based consulting firm run by the congresswoman's husband, Tim Mynett. The payments, predominantly for digital and fundraising services, bring the total that Omar's campaign has sent to Mynett's firm to just over $1 million for the 2020 cycle.

Omar, a freshmen congresswoman, has faced scrutiny over numerous financial and personal issues since she was elected in 2018. She has drawn criticism for a lack of transparency about her previous marriages, over campaign finance violations, and for a potential violation of House ethics rules pertaining to the advance she received on a recently published memoir. Pressed for answers, she has routinely dismissed the inquiries as "smears" and "conspiracy theories."

Mynett's firm is the top vendor for Omar's campaign, which doled out $521,000 between April 1 and June 30 with Mynett's share accounting for 44 percent of that total.

The financial relationship between Mynett and Omar began before the two announced they were married this March, but it is unclear how long the two were romantically linked before they tied the knot.

Where in the world is Barack Obama? I have a question for him

Exclusive: Jack Cashill explains jaw-dropping media complicity surrounding BHO scandal

For the last several years, Obama-friendly publications have been running headlines along the lines of "Where is Barack Obama?" or "Where in the World is Barack Obama?"

For the most part, these were written in the spirt of the Simon & Garfunkle lament in "Mrs. Robinson," "Where have you gone, Joe Dimaggio?" In either case, our nation was supposed to be turning our lonely eyes to this hero of days gone by.

Lately, however, the question of Obama's whereabouts has become more literal. Where exactly is he? Where has he gone to labor away on his long overdue and overpaid memoir? Insiders, I am told, worry about his mental health and his fondness for a stiff drink.

Obama's elusiveness should not surprise. He has a habit of disappearing, and the media have a habit of not inquiring too hard into where he has gone, most memorably on the night of Sept. 11, 2012.

Much has been written about the various blunders that led to the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. Not until 2016, however, when the indefatigable Ken Timmerman released his book "Deception," subtitled "The Making of the Youtube Video Hillary and Obama Blamed for Benghazi," did anyone write in depth about the filmmaker Obama held responsible for those attacks. That filmmaker would be Nakoula Basseley Nakoula.

The stone-cold facts on Stone's commutation

Exclusive: Lt. Col. James Zumwalt ID's the typical Trump-bashers who stayed quiet on action

Unlike the mainstream media, which failed to provide one, a fair analysis of President Donald Trump's commutation of his longtime political adviser Roger Stone, convictedon seven felonious counts and sentenced to 40 months in prison, demands viewing from three perspectives. While the first is whether it is justified, also of import are two other telling perspectives – the motivation of those criticizing the move and the silence of those normally more vocal in their criticism.

Justification for Commutation:

Concerning justification, the scales of justice for Stone were far from level. He was immediately caught up in traversing a liberal minefield. The basis for the underlying investigation was a false narrative, emanating from the Steele Dossier – a documentinitiated at the request of Hillary Clinton to find dirt on Trump and later paid for by both her and the Democratic National Committee. The gist of the dossier was that Trump was colluding with Russia to steal the 2016 presidential election. A recentruling in a British court involving a lawsuit against the Steele Dossier author affirms the report's ultimate client was Clinton's campaign.
