"Death Yard" - Where Rental Cars Go To Die

Several months ago, we noticed parking lots across the US were quickly filling up with rental cars as the entire car rental industry collapsed. The virus-induced recession crushed the travel and tourism industry, so it would only make sense that indirect industries, like rental cars, would get hammered.

In May, rental car fleets were being shifted from airports to massive parking lots at sports stadiums from Philipedia to Los Angeles; the pictures below show the magnitude of the collapse:

  1. I was in Orlando last week (big rental car market) and saw this firsthand. Also there are huge parking lots full of tour busses that normally handle the cruise crowds. Central Florida is hurting.

  4. Wow wait until they start unloading them into the used car market. Let the deals begin. The local used car dealers are going to be hurting for sure except for bad credit customers they have,

    1. They will probably be auctioned off at a dealer only auction.

  5. I've received several calls from Pohanka begging me to bring in my Honda to trade it in on another car or truck. I still owe 10K on it and they want me to finance another 5 to 6 years in this economy?
    Hell no!!!!
I need a new roof on my house and new flooring for my family room so I can sell it and move away from Maryland when I retire in 5 years.

    Thanks, but no thanks!

  7. I tried my best to make a deal with Pohanka Honda and ultimately ended up going to Hertrich in Easton who were more than happy to work a fair deal.

I was looking at a Manual Civic and they wanted $4k more than what I paid for an Automatic Civic.

Pohanka is still trying to sell cars with the same old scammy sales tactics from 1969.

Pohanka Toyota was the absolute worst. They tried to sell me a car but would not quote me a price until I agreed to buy it? WTF. And I quote " you will just take our quote and buy it for less elsewhere." I kid you not. Most ridiculous crap I had ever been subjected to.

  8. You should never buy a rental. Any rental I have had from here has been the most absolute piece of crap.

Enterprise once rented me a car that was half wrecked, you couldn't count the damage on it there was so much

Hertz rented me a car that had been wrecked because the steering wheel was on crooked and then they gave me a car that only had 24lbs or pressure in the tires.

You will die in the junk they are putting you in.
