More than 80 percent of William Lacy Clay Jr.'s campaign expenditures last year went to firm
Democratic representative William Lacy Clay Jr. (Mo.) paid the law firm owned by his sister $153,000 in 2017, Federal Election Commission filings show.
The money Clay paid to the firm accounted for more than 80 percent of committee's expenditures last year, which has now sent $950,000 to Clay's sister since 2002.
Clay Jr. began paying family members from his campaign's coffers almost immediately after entering Congress in 2001. Michelle Clay, his sister, has been the biggest beneficiary of the payments.
Michelle Clay is the owner of the Law Office of Michelle C. Clay LLC, a firm located just outside of Washington, D.C. The law office's address appears to be a residential home in Silver Spring, Maryland. Little information is available online about the firm, which does not have a website.
Throughout the first three quarters of 2017, Rep. Clay gave $135,000 to the law office.

Dem Rep Acknowledges Party Is Listening to Donor Class, Not Working Class
Democrat Rep. Cheri Bustos (Ill.) agreed on Tuesday that Democrats are listening more to what the "donor class" wants than to the priorities of the American working class.
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, in a post-State of the Union special, told Bustos if Democrats want to start winning swing states, they’re going to have to "start talking to regular people and stop listening to their donor class who have their own interests."
"The people that have a lot of money have different interests than the average working person," Matthews said.
"You’re absolutely right," Bustos agreed without hesitation.
Bustos said it’s important to go to functions that aren’t solely Democratic, because otherwise lawmakers would just hear the same thing over and over again from the same people.

Trump Blasts FBI Leadership For "Politicizing The Sacred Investigative Process"
After a week of intense speculation, Speaker Paul Ryan has backed President Trump's wish to release the infamous "FISA Memo" on Friday (despite Nancy Pelosi's demands that its main architect, House Intel Committee Chair Devin Nunes, be moved from his position), the president pushed back against accusations that he's politicized federal law enforcement, claiming that the FBI's leadership is truly to blame.
"The top Leadership and Investigators of the FBI and the Justice Department have politicized the sacred investigative process in favor of Democrats and against Republicans - something which would have been unthinkable just a short time ago. Rank & File are great people!," the president said in the first of two tweets.
In the second, he included a quote from Judicial Watch head Tom Fitton about the Democratic skullduggery that was involved in the creation and funding of the memo, which may have been used improperly by the FBI to secure a FISA warrant against Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
"'You had Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party try to hide the fact that they gave money to GPS Fusion to create a Dossier which was used by their allies in the Obama Administration to convince a Court misleadingly, by all accounts, to spy on the Trump Team.' Tom Fitton, JW"

GOP Reps Seek Criminal Prosecution Of FBI, DOJ Officials For "Full Throated" Illegal Misconduct And "Treason"
Following the release of a four-page memo detailing rampant FISA warrant abuse by the FBI and DOJ, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) announced that he will seek the criminal prosecution of FBI and DOJ officials for the "full throated adoption of this illegal misconduct and abuse of FISA by James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Sally Yates and Rod Rosenstein" who Gosar called "traitors to our nation."
Gosar focuses on the memo's claim that the FBI and DOJ did not mention that Christopher Steele, the ex-MI6 spy who compiled the dossier, was partially funded by the Clinton campaign and the DNC.
"This is third world politics where the official government agencies are used as campaign attack dogs,"Gosar said.
The letter reads in part:
The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence memorandum on the FBI abuse of FISA warrants and targeting a sitting President is not just evidence of incompetence but clear and convincing evidence of treason....
I will be leading a letter to the Attorney General seeking criminal prosecution against these traitors to our nation."

Media’s longtime crusade for transparency ends with Nunes memo as ‘The Post’ remains in theaters
The media industry’s decades-old crusade for transparency ended this week as liberal pundits from a variety of news organizations called for the controversial memo on alleged FBI abuses to stay private.
Talking heads on both CNN and MSNBC, as well as editorial boards from the prestigious New York Times and Washington Post have all come out against the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence memo that potentially reveals the FBI abused spying authorities and paints government officials as anti-Trump.
Ironically, the mainstream media wanted to keep the memo private even as Steven Spielberg’s “The Post,” a story about the Washington Post’s fight to release the Pentagon Papers, is playing in theaters across the nation. Hollywood royalty Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep portray newspaper legends Ben Bradlee and Kay Graham as they challenge the government to release the controversial documents.
Most Hollywood liberals presumably consume the same mainstream media that is attempting to do the exact opposite of the characters the famous actors portray in “The Post.”

Report: NFL Losing Its Core Audience
The National Football League is quickly losing its core audience marking a shift that could bring an end to the sport’s dominance, a new poll finds.
The WSJ/NBC poll found several things that should worry the NFL both for its near and long-term future. For instance, in the short-term, fans are paying less attention than ever to the NFL. But, more worrisome, in the long-term, parents are increasingly discouraging their children from playing football over concerns over the sport’s safety. The latter would tend to create fewer football fans into the future.
The effect does not seem to be localized, either. Fan interest in the NFL has dropped across the various demographics, including in the crucial growth demo of young males, according to the Wall Street Journal.
“The drop in interest spans age groups and the political spectrum—painting the picture of a sport that isn’t just experiencing a momentary dip, but a battle against fundamental questions about football’s future that have been building for years,” the Journal wrote.

'Consumed With Hatred for Trump'
On "America's Newsroom" on Tuesday, Fox News contributor Charlie Hurt said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif) over-the-top negative reaction to President Donald Trump's first State of the Union address shows that she has been consumed with "hatred" for the president.
"Without any basis on evidence, data and the rest, he makes these statements about newcomers to our country and equating it in a criminal way. What was that about?" Pelosi said during a press conference with Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday. "It was — I wouldn't say confusing. It was worse than that. It was dangerous what he said last night."
"And it is instilled fear," she continued. "What he is doing brings tears to the eyes of the Statue of Liberty, and instills fear in the hearts of the people who are concerned about our DREAMers."
Hurt said this is just more exaggeration from Pelosi after her now-infamous "crumbs" remark about the positive effects of the Republican tax cuts.
"She has become so consumed with her disapproval and even, I would say, hatred of Donald Trump, she's kind of lost sight of any mission or any vision for what her party stands for," Hurt said. "You can't win without some sort of vision, some sort of message."

Governor Hogan Delivers the State of the State
On Wednesday, Governor Larry Hogan delivered his fourth State of the State address. With the theme of "Leading by Action", the Governor laid out a strong and transformative legislative and executive action policy agenda focused on improving the lives of all Marylanders.
House Minority Leader Nic Kipke and Minority Whip Kathy Szeliga issued the following statement regarding Governor Hogan’s State of the State Address:
“It is amazing how far Maryland has come over the last four years,” said House Minority Leader Nic Kipke. “When Governor Hogan was elected, Marylanders were suffering under the high-tax legacy of the O’Malley/Brown Administration. After more than forty tax, toll, and fee increases our citizens were struggling to make ends meet. But look at where we are now; our state has transformed! The conversation has turned from tax hikes to tax cuts and Maryland is stronger than it has been in decades. Our citizens are optimistic with the direction of our state.”
“The accomplishments of the Hogan Administration cannot be overstated,” said House Minority Whip Kathy Szeliga. “But, there is still more to do. Governor Hogan has introduced a robust legislative agenda to lower taxes, protect our communities, and provide a quality education to our children regardless of their zip code. It is the job of the General Assembly to come together in a bipartisan fashion to continue changing Maryland for the better.”

Remember the heroic acts of four Army chaplains on Feb. 4
Feb. 3 will mark the 75th anniversary of the sinking of the United States Army Transport Dorchester and the selfless acts of four Army chaplains who were aboard. American Legion posts nationwide are encouraged to commemorate the anniversary each February and honor Four Chaplains Day.
The Dorchester tragically sunk on Feb. 3, 1943, while crossing the North Atlantic, transporting troops to an American base in Greenland. A German U-boat fired a torpedo that struck the Dorchester, killing 672 of the 902 officers and enlisted men, merchant seamen and civilian workers aboard.
Many of those survivors owe their lives to the courage and leadership exhibited by four chaplains of different faiths, who, in sacrificing their lives, created a unique legacy of brotherhood.
As soldiers rushed to lifeboats, Reverend George Fox (Methodist), Jewish Rabbi Alexander Goode, Reverend Clark Poling (Dutch Reformed) and Father John Washington (Roman Catholic) comforted the wounded and directed others to safety. One survivor watched the chaplains distribute life jackets, and when they ran out, they removed theirs and gave them to four young men.

Fever: Friend, Foe or Both?
by Ralph K. Campbell, MD, with Robert G. Smith, PhD
As a young parent, even though I had just finished filling my head full of medical facts, I felt alarm when my infant daughter ran a fever. The first thing I had to do was to measure her temperature. Grandmas' method of touching the baby's forehead against her own was an OK way of measuring a moderate to high fever but certainly did not meet the standard of accuracy demanded by this young doctor. The current method of sticking the end of an electronic gadget in her ear, instead of using a conventional thermometer, didn't exist. So horrors, all we had for infants was the rectal thermometer. Since our little ones can't express what is causing their distress, we feel a greater sense of urgency. Thus the modern infrared thermometer ameliorates a real safety concern besides allowing a quick decision on fever.
Fever is usually helpful
On the friendly side, fever generated in response to infection turns on several biological mechanisms that help to fight the cause of infection: mobilize leukocytes and phagocytes, decrease the effects of endotoxins, and increase proliferation of T-cells. In more understandable terms---leukocytes are white blood cells, and phagocytes are more specialized cells that gobble up bacteria. An endotoxin is produced by certain bacteria and can cause muscle aches or headache. Fever is elevated in response to the endotoxin and attenuates its harmful effects. The more T-cells the better as they are the real killers of the bad guys, whether bacteria or viruses. Long before we had this knowledge, medical professionals knew from personal experience with influenza that one feels much better in the cooler recovery stage after the fever breaks than during the febrile stage.
Harm from fever can vary..

Noonan: The Left’s Rage and Trump’s Peril
The State of the Union speech was good—spirited, pointed, with a credible warmth for the heroes in the balcony, who were well chosen. They were beautiful human beings, and their stories were rousing—the cop and his wife who adopted the baby, the hardy North Korean defector who triumphantly waved his crutches, the mourning, dignified parents of the girls killed by MS-13. My beloved Cajun Navy.
The thing about the heroes in the balcony is it reminds you not of who the president is but of who we are. “With people like that we can’t miss.” I had that thought when Ronald Reagan gave tribute in 1985 to a young woman who as a child desperately fled Saigon as it fell. She and her family were among the boat people, spotted and saved by a U.S. ship. Reagan called her to stand, and Jean Nguyen stood—proudly, in the gleaming uniform of a West Point cadet. She would graduate within the year.
The recognition of heroes in the balcony is called a cliché. It certainly is. An inspiring and truthful one, and long may it live.
The Democrats in the chamber were slumped, glowery. They had chosen to act out unbroken disdain so as to please the rising left of their party, which was watching and would review their faces. Some of them were poorly lit and seemed not resolute but Draculaic. The women of the party mostly dressed in black, because nothing says moral seriousness like coordinating your outfits.
Here it should be said of the rising left of the Democratic Party that they are numerous, committed, and have all the energy—it’s true. But they operate at a disadvantage they cannot see, and it is that they are loveless. The social justice warriors, the advancers of identity politics and gender politics, the young who’ve just discovered socialism—they run on rage.
But rage is a poor fuel in politics. It produces a heavy, sulfurous exhaust and pollutes the air..

Defining Chain Migration and Visa Lottery
During his first State of the Union address Tuesday night, President Donald Trump spoke directly to the American people — and bypassed the media — in laying out where the country is and what the future holds. While the president rattled off an impressive array of first-year accomplishments, one of the most anticipated topics was his immigration plan.
The president outlined four “pillars” of his proposal: 1) a path to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal immigrants; 2) securing the border; 3) ending the visa lottery; and 4) ending chain migration. While most Americans understand the concept of a pathway to citizenship (a.k.a. amnesty) and securing the border, two of the president’s pillars are more elusive: chain migration and the visa lottery.
Even those who are well informed about immigration have a hard time getting their minds around the term chain migration. Of course, Democrats like Senators Dick Durbin and Kirsten Gillibrand now claim that the term is racist and hurtful (because of the word “chain” or something), but the reality is that the term simply polls poorly. More on that in a moment. In any case, the Democrats’ phony “racism” charge reveals just how little they care about solving the problem. (Especially given how much they’ve used the term before.)
Chain migration allows green card holders or legal residents to sponsor family members for immigration. CBS News adds that it’s “the most common legal form of immigration to the United States. According to the Department of Homeland Security, 238,087 immigrants were categorized as a ‘family-sponsored preference' in 2016 and 566,706 came as 'immediate relatives of U.S. citizens’ (spouses, children, or parents). Between 60 and 70 percent of all lawful permanent immigration to the United States in the past decade has family-based roots.”
Despite what many Americans believe, the president isn’t seeking an end to family-based immigration altogether. Instead, he wants to limit it to immediate family members. As the president stated during his address, “This vital reform is necessary, not just for our economy, but for our security and for the future of America.”

Two NFLs: The Protesters and the Lower Paid
A recent study found that NFL players who have engaged in kneeling protests during the national anthem are some of the league’s highest paid players. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that players who protested on average earned $3 million more than their non-protesting teammates. The study noted that players who were selected in the earliest rounds of the draft — those most likely to earn higher salaries — were also three times more likely than other players to be engaged in protest. Of all 2,197 NFL players, the study found that 317 protested the national anthem before at least one game during the 2017 season.
University of Cincinnati political science professor David Niven, who was reportedly astonished by the findings, noted, “The idea in popular culture we talk about is there are two Americas — the rich and the poor. This shows there are two NFLs.” Niven continued, “Players who were protesting inequality in society were doing that from a position of being on top of the NFL’s inequality.”

McCain: FISA Memo Serves no American Interests, Only Putin’s
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, attacked the release of the FISA memo, arguing that it does not serve the interests of America, “only Putin’s.”
McCain said in a statement:
"...The latest attacks on the FBI and Department of Justice serve no American interests – no party’s, no president’s, only Putin’s. The American people deserve to know all of the facts surrounding Russia’s ongoing efforts to subvert our democracy, which is why Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation must proceed unimpeded. Our nation’s elected officials, including the president, must stop looking at this investigation through the warped lens of politics and manufacturing partisan sideshows. If we continue to undermine our own rule of law, we are doing Putin’s job for him."

Shocking memo reveals how Comey disgraced an honorable FBI
The information contained in the memo released by House Republicans on Friday that accused FBI and Justice Department officials of improperly obtaining permission to surveil a former Trump campaign adviser shows a tragic failure of leadership on the part of former FBI Director James Comey.
But importantly, the memo does not in any way reflect on the outstanding work of the more than 35,000 dedicated men and women of the FBI.
It pains me – as a former FBI executive who loves and respects the organization – to say that Comey’s short tenure at the FBI has proven to be the worst thing to happen to the agency since Director L. Patrick Gray was fired during the Watergate scandal.
If the facts stated in the memo are true – despite the highly political nature of congressional committees – then there was either incompetent or deliberate manipulation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Court to get approval of the surveillance.

NFL losing core audience, only 51% of men follow closely
After seeing its television ratings drop for the second consecutive season, the NFL received more bad news on Friday as a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll showed that the league's core audience is rapidly losing interest.
Among adults, the number of those who followed the sport closely dropped nine percent since 2014, according to The Wall Street Journal. What's worse, only 51 percent of men between 18 and 49 say they follow the NFL closely, which is down from 75 percent only four years ago.
'If I'm the NFL I'm freaking out about that a little bit,' Republican pollster Micah Roberts told the Journal. 'They are the very core of the football-viewing audience. If they're retreating, then who's left?'

Trump Triumphs with Release of House Intel Memo
The House Intelligence Committee memo on abuse of power by the Federal Bureau of Investigation appeared just after 12:00 p.m. Eastern time, and American political life never will be the same. The House Republicans make a persuasive if not prima facie case that senior FBI officials used a fake dossier paid for by the Democrats to get a court order for electronic surveillance of the Trump campaign. If the charge sticks, America will have a real-life instance of the sort of scenario found in pulp thrillers—a rogue intelligence agency operating in the darkness and abusing its power to manipulate elections.
Senior FBI and CIA officials (as well as a number of prominent Democrats) accused Trump of endangering national security by releasing the memo. This recalls the old Soviet-era joke about the Radio Yerevan listener who calls into ask whether it’s a crime to call Brezhnev an idiot. The answer: “Yes, because it’s a state secret.”

CNN is a Trump-hate-aholic and it's Time for an Intervention
For years now I’ve been getting a strange vibe off CNN. I mean, besides the fact that they’re crazy liberals, of course, and seem to think they’re middle of the road. But this year, it finally solidified. Particularly after reading about their speculation relating to Melania’s SOTU attire. I mean… it can only be one thing.
CNN, as a collective entity has been hitting the bottle hard. It might be reaching the point of no return.
You know how it goes, right? There’s someone in the family, usually the loud and strange uncle, that just gives you that weird vibe, but you can never be absolutely sure they have a problem. It’s entirely possible they’re just assholes, right?
Sure, he gets combative at weddings, and pesters the bride for a kiss; he rants about politics or sex at the most inappropriate moments; and towards the end of a party nothing will do but for him to put on a snazzy hat – or something that can pass as a snazzy hat – and run to the nearest crossroads to direct traffic. But the thing is, what part of this is a serious problem, and what part of it is just being odd, not very well socialized, and frankly sure he knows a lot more about things than he does?

Trump: Calling Illegal Immigrants ‘Dreamers’ Is A ‘Trap’ — All Americans Are Dreamers
MLK had a dream, too. Since 1968, how's that worked out for us except as a rude bargaining chip used by racists? I believed in his dream. Others saw it as a license to cheat, steal and further enslave. They are among us now, cheating, stealing and pretending to be on someone's side but their very personal own, using the rest of us as unwitting tools.
Shall we name them, those traitors to King's name?

Judicial Watch: 'The FBI is Threatening the President of the United States'
As leading congressional Democrats and certain FBI officials urge President Donald Trump not to release an intelligence memo about alleged FBI malfeasance in the 2016 election, Judicial Watch Director of Research and Intelligence Chris Farrell said, "the FBI is threatening the president of the United States" and "betraying their oath to the Constitution."
Farrell added that the FBI's "criminality" is not isolated to headquarters in Washington, D.C. but is present in many field offices across the country. He specifically cited the office in El Paso, Texas where, he said, "there's all sorts of abuse by surveillance, of mail cover, of telephone taps [and] of intercepts."
On Lou Dobbs Tonight, Jan. 31, Dobbs asked Farrell why the FBI is suddenly so gung-ho about preventing the release of a memo prepared by the House Intelligence Committee based on FBI and Justice Department documents.

NYC’s hotels need homeless people to stay in business
Don’t look now, but more homeless people are coming to a nice hotel near you.
The Post reported on Thursday that the city now pays to put up a mind-boggling 11,000 homeless people in hotels — nearly one in six of the roughly 61,000 previously in shelters — costing taxpayers an average $222 a night compared with $150 a night in shelters.
The Big Apple’s hotels are making less money than they were a few years ago, and owners are scrambling for bucks as they see the value of their properties tumble. The recent creation of tens of thousands of new rooms, as well as competition from Airbnb, has driven down room rates and the city’s hotel market is “performing like mushy apple sauce,” says industry journal Hotel Management.
Mayor de Blasio, ever eager to throw Band-Aids at serious crises, offered to fill empty rooms with homeless people, taking large bunches of rooms, or even entire hotels, off owners’ hands, sometimes for more than they’d make from regular guests. And hoteliers are more than willing to play along. Their business, after all, depends on it.

The C.E.O. of the Humane Society of the United States resigned after sexual harassment allegations and an uprising from staff and donors
The executive, Wayne Pacelle, had held onto support from the majority of the organization’s board, which voted on Thursday to immediately end an investigation into his behavior.
Yet by Friday afternoon, some donors and employees of the organization were distancing themselves from him and calling for him to leave. In an email to staff, Mr. Pacelle said on Friday that because “our mission depends on unity,” he was stepping aside to allow a search for a successor to begin.

The DNC is reportedly 'dead broke.' The RNC has nearly $40 million.
The Democratic National Committee had a rough 2017, plagued by leadership troubles, internal squabbling, and unflattering reports. To top it off, the party ended the year "dead broke," says The Intercept's Ryan Grim.
The Democratic Party is carrying more than $6 million in debt, according to year-end filings — and has just $6.5 million in the bank. Do the math, and the party is working with just over $400,000 overall. Meanwhile, the Republicans are swimming in pools of money. The Republican National Committee had raised $132 million by the end of 2017 — about twice as much as the DNC — and entered 2018 with almost $40 million to spare, with not a penny of debt.

Herschel Walker: Players Received 'Hush Money' From NFL to Stand for Anthem
Former NFL running back Herschel Walker accused the NFL of essentially giving out "hush money" to stop players from kneeling for the national anthem.
The 1982 Heisman Trophy winner highlighted the fact that the NFL in late November offered $100 million to social justice organizations favored by players.
The move was widely viewed as an attempt by the league to end the controversy surrounding the anthem protests.
"The league gave the players a large sum of money toward their cause. That's hush money," he said, adding that players never should have been kneeling in the first place.

No progress on 'Dreamers' as another U.S. shutdown looms
STERLING, Va./ WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. (Reuters) - The U.S. Congress made no notable progress this week toward a deal on the status of 700,000 “Dreamer” immigrants, with President Donald Trump saying on Friday that one “could very well not happen” by a deadline next month.
Whether the lack of progress signaled the possibility of another federal government shutdown next week was unclear, but it worried the Dreamers, young people who were brought illegally into the United States as children.
Trump said last year that he would end by March 5 a program that was set up by former President Barack Obama to protect the Dreamers from deportation, and he urged Congress to act before that date. No action has resulted.
“We want to make a deal,” Trump said at an event in Virginia with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. And he blamed Democratic lawmakers for the impasse.
“I think they want to use it for political purposes for elections. I really am not happy with the way it’s going from the standpoint of the Democrats,” he said.

Tucker Carlson Blasts ‘Aspiring MSNBC Contributor’ James Comey Over Memo Tweet
“The dishonesty mixed with self-righteousness.”
Tucker Carlson had some strong criticism of former FBI Director James Comey over his reaction to the release of the GOP memo.
Comey took to Twitter this afternoon and dismissed the significance of the memo’s findings.
That’s it? Dishonest and misleading memo wrecked the House intel committee, destroyed trust with Intelligence Community, damaged relationship with FISA court, and inexcusably exposed classified investigation of an American citizen. For what? DOJ & FBI must keep doing their jobs.

February 4th - The Big Sick
Directed by Michael Showalter. USA, 2017. 119 minutes. Rated R. Based on the real-life courtship between Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, The Big Sick tells the story of Pakistan-born aspiring comedian Kumail (Nanjiani), who connects with grad student Emily (Zoe Kazan)after a show. However, their one-night stand blossoms into the real thing, which complicates the life that is expected of Kumail by his traditional Muslim parents. When Emily is beset with a mystery illness, it forces Kumail to navigate the medical crisis with her parents, Beth and Terry (Holly Hunter and Ray Romano)
March 4th - Carrie Pilby
Directed by Susan Johnson. USA, 2017. 98 minutes. Unrated Bel Powley stars as Carrie Pilby, a genius who graduated Harvard at 18. Convinced that the world is populated by oversexed hypocrites, she has a hard time making sense of life as it relates to morality, relationships, sex and leaving her apartment. In an effort to coax Carrie out of her shell, her psychiatrist (Nathan Lane) makes a deceptively simple checklist of goals for her to achieve between Thanksgiving and year’s end. Each goal brings Carrie closer to the understanding that humans, like books, can’t be judged by their covers.
April 8th - A Quiet Passion
Directed by Terence Davies. UK/ Belgium, 2017. 125 minutes. PG-13 Cynthia Nixon delivers a triumphant performance as Emily Dickinson as she personifies the wit, intellectual independence and pathos of the poet whose genius only came to be recognized after her death. Acclaimed British director Terence Davies (The House of Mirth, The Deep Blue Sea) exquisitely evokes the manners, mores and spiritual convictions of her time that she struggled with and transcended in her poetry. Lindsey Barr called A Quiet Passion “a fiercely intelligent, handsome and affecting rendering of Dickinson’s extraordinary, ordinary life.”
*May 6th - Separate But Equal
Directed by Shawn Wilson. USA, 2010. 52 minutes. Baldwin wrote The story of HC Anderson, a black photographer in the Mississippi Delta, and of a black middle class community that existed in Greenville, Mississippi during legal segregation. The film shows rare images of African Americans in Mississippi during an era most known for civil strife. The film also tells the story of writer-director Shawn Wilson (who will be at the screening along with composer-producer Ilyana Kadushin) discovering HC Anderson while searching for a master print of a photograph of his deceased mother.

Trey Gowdy On House Intel FISA Memo Release
Congressman Trey Gowdy dismantled a talking point circulated on social media Friday by those seeking to downplay the implications of the just-released House Intelligence Committee memo.
Though the FISA memo — compiled by House Intel chair Devin Nunes — makes clear that the infamous Steele dossier was instrumental in securing FISA warrants on former Trump adviser Carter Page, the left quickly began pointing to the memo’s final section.
The memo’s conclusion fingers former Trump foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos as the impetus for the FBI’s monitoring of Trump’s campaign, and the anti-Trump crowd argued this point washes out the rest of the memo’s implications.
Gowdy disagreed.

A Post-Mortem On The Corpse Of "Social Justice"
I have been commenting on social justice propaganda for quite some time; long before it was fashionable to do so, and long before there was an organized movement of support to defend commentators who dared to question the insane dictates of the cult of political correctness.
In my article 'The Twisted Motives Behind Political Correctness', published in early 2014, I outlined the basic philosophical underpinnings of political correctness and what these beliefs tend to lead to. At the time, the future for champions of individual liberty and reason appeared rather bleak. Today, I am happy to say the backlash against “third-wave feminism” and cultural Marxism has expanded beyond anything I could have dreamed.

WH Shows 15 Jihadis Who Got Visas by Lottery or Chain Migration
White House officials rolled out a list of 15 visa-lottery jihadis and chain-migration terrorists to pressure Democrats towards a compromise on the president’s “framework” amnesty-and-immigration plan.
The February 2 list of jihadis includes a senior leader in the Islamic counter-attack against personal freedom, Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook. He is an “alleged United States Hamas leader [who] received his green card through a predecessor program to the visa lottery,” said the statement. “Marzook was deported in 1997 for terrorist activities.”
The statement backs up Trump’s speech in the State of the Union speech, where he urged elimination of the visa lottery and chain migration programs, saying:
It is time to begin moving towards a merit-based immigration system, one that admits people who are skilled, who want to work who will contribute to our society and who will love and respect our country.
The jihadis include seven “mujahids” who arrived via the visa lottery and six “jihadis” who arrived via chain migration. They include:

Hillary Has Sent Over $1 Million From Onward Together to Other ‘Resistance’ Groups
Hillary Clinton has passed over a million dollars from her "resistance" group to other anti-Trump groups, an employee of the organization told the Washington Free Beacon.
Clinton announced in April of last year that she intended to be a "part of the resistance" with the launch of Onward Together, a political action group established to supply funding and support to left-wing organizations that can counter President Donald Trump via direct action and protest.
"From the Women's March to airports across the country where communities are welcoming immigrants and refugees to town hall meetings in every community, Americans are speaking out like never before," Clinton wrote after the group's formation. "I believe more fiercely than ever that citizen engagement at every level is central to a strong and vibrant democracy."
"In some cases, we'll provide direct funding to these organizations. For others, we'll help amplify their work and do what we can to help them continue to grow their audiences and expand their reach."

"In some cases, we'll provide direct funding to these organizations. For others, we'll help amplify their work and do what we can to help them continue to grow their audiences and expand their reach."

Ex-Rep. Corrine Brown arrives in 'limousine-style' minibus to begin prison time
Disgraced ex-Democratic Rep. Corrine Brown arrived in style this week at a Florida federal prison to serve her five-year sentence for lying about a purported charity for poor students that she was found to have used as a personal slush fund.
The 71-year-old emerged from a “limousine-style minibus” at the prison in Sumter County to serve her sentence for fraud on Monday, according to The Orlando Sentinel.
Brown was convicted in May of stealing money from a bogus charity, One Door For Education, which claimed to give scholarships to poor children. Instead prosecutors said she and a top aide used the donations for lavish parties, concerts and trips to the Bahamas.
Brown said she was left in the dark about the goings-on with One Door's money, and blamed the theft on her former chief of staff. But she admitted she should have paid more attention to the finances. She is appealing the conviction.
Larry Levine, of Wall Street Prison Consultants, told the Sentinel that Brown will wake at 6 a.m. to wait in line for the bathroom and then breakfast. She will then tidy her room and a small locker, after which she will likely do either clerical or janitorial work.

Former Principal Sentenced For Using School Funds To Play Slots, Buy Electronics
A former Baltimore City high school principal will serve three months in prison and must pay restitution for stealing from school coffers, State Prosecutor Emmet C. Davitt announced Friday.
“We look to and entrust our high school principals with having the best interests of our children at heart," Davitt said in a statement. "Betrayal of that trust is particularly egregious. No parent should worry that their children’s uniform money or prom dues are being spent by their principal at the local casino, nor should taxpayers’ need be concerned that a school principal is spending public school funds to buy expensive technology for herself and her friends.”
Leslie N. Lewis, former principal of the now-closed Baltimore Community High School, pleaded guilty in December to two counts of theft as part of a plea deal. While principal, she stole more than $13,400 from a PNC Bank account she set up in the school's name. That account held proceeds from the sale of school uniforms, supplies, snacks, class dues and graduation fees. She used a card tied to the account to make ATM withdrawals and purchases at area casinos, using that money to play the slots.
From December 31, 2013 to April 9, 2016, Lewis went to Maryland Live! Casino at least 83 times, playing at least $549,000 and losing more than $62,000. She went to the Horseshoe Casino at least 63 times between July 29, 2015 and July 21, 2016, playing at least $52,400 and losing more than $10,700. In all, she lost nearly $73,000 in 146 casino trips, according to Davitt's office, citing casino records.
In the second theft scheme, she used deceptive purchase orders to steal more than $45,000 worth of technology from city schools through their internal purchasing system. Those items included computers, a speaker system, a television and various household appliances.

Obama State Department Provided Classified Records to Sen. Ben Cardin to Undermine President Trump
Judicial Watch has released 42 pages of heavily redacted State Department documents containing classified information that was provided to Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and outspoken critic of President Donald Trump. The documents show Russian political interference in elections and politics in countries across Europe.
According to a March 2017 report in the Baltimore Sun: “Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin received classified information about Russia’s involvement in elections when the Obama administration was attempting to disseminate that material widely across the government in order to aid in future investigations, according to a report Wednesday … Obama officials were concerned, according to the report [in The New York Times], that the Trump administration would cover up intelligence once power changed hands.”
In March 2017, former Obama Deputy Asst. Secretary of Defense Evelyn Farkas admitted that there was surveillance of President’s Trump’s campaign and leaking of intelligence information. She encouraged people in the administration and on the Hill to “get as much intelligence as you can before President Obama leaves [office] … I became very worried because not enough was coming out into the open and I knew that there was more … That’s why you have the leaking.”

Amazon Urged To Pick LGBT-Friendly Locale For HQ2
(CNN Money) — Gay rights advocates are calling on Amazon to choose an LGBT-friendly city for its second headquarters.
As a part of a demonstration on Thursday, a plane with a banner touting the campaign’s name — “No Gay? No Way!” — is flying near the company’s Seattle headquarters. It’s timed to the tech giant’s fourth quarter earnings release.
The group is urging Amazon to build its second headquarters in a state that protects lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people from discrimination,
Last month, Amazon released a list of the 20 metro areas in the running for HQ2, following a request for cities to submit proposals. Nine of those finalists — Atlanta, Austin, Columbus, Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, Nashville, Raleigh and Northern Virginia — are in states that fail to protect LGBT people from employment, housing and public accommodations discrimination, according to the campaign.
The campaign is also running digital ads in Seattle and those nine states, and deploying a traveling mobile billboard around Seattle. The ad says: “Hey, Alexa? Why would Amazon even consider putting HQ2 in a state that discriminates against LGBT people?”

LEGENDARY COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER 2-3-18
Hotels
Over the years there have been many places to offer a night’s stay for the weary traveler. I started out trying to list all the hotels and motels, but the list of just the hotels was overwhelming.
Two of the longest standing hotels until the huge Wicomico Hotel was built in 1925 are the Peninsula Hotel on Main St. and the Salisbury Hotel on Railroad Avenue. The Peninsula Hotel was started and operated for many years by John Tracy. It was subsequently owned and operated by O. J. Schneck and Harry Phillips. The end of this hotel came in devastating fire in 1929. A bank was built on the site at Main and St. Peter Streets and remains to this day. The Salisbury Hotel was operated by George L. Bradley and operated at least until 1921. Both were in business in 1878.
The next two old hotels are the Central Hotel on E. Church St. and the Merchants Hotel. While many people remember the Central because it remained open until the 1960’s, only the building where the Merchants Hotel was in business remains on the corner of Main and Church Streets near Mill Street. The land where the Central Hotel was is now under the Government Office Building on the corner of Church and Division Streets.
Other lesser known hotels operated from 1907 until 1925, when the huge Wicomico
Hotel opened, driving the smaller hotels out of business. After their life as a hotel, many of them became rooming houses, renting accommodations for longer stays than the overnight traveler needed. Some of them are the Davis House on Division St., the Maryland House on E. Church St., Parker House on High St, Salisbury House on Main St., the Hotel Claiborne on Main St. and the Ross Hotel on Main St. Many of these were probably eating or drinking establishments on the first floor and rooms on the upper floors. Businesses such as the Arcade Hotel on W. Main St., the Chantry House on Water St., the Majestic Hotel on E. Main St., the Mayflower Grill on W. Main St., The William Penn on N. Division St. and the Travelers Inn on Main St. also provided accommodations for the weary traveler.
When the Wicomico Hotel was opened in 1925, the accommodations were such that their business practically put every other establishment that served overnight guests out of business. They were “the place to stay” until after World War II, when the motel emerged. Motels served an ever-growing clientele of travelers that had automobiles. The alternate to the Wicomico Hotel was a proliferation of tourist homes. These were large homes that had the space to rent out on a nightly basis and were mainly located along N. Division St., which was Route 13 until they built the “by-pass” in 1939.
Nowadays, hotels are only found in the larger cities. The modern motels are very similar to the grand hotels of yesterday, having many accommodations attached to them. You can eat shop or be entertained at most of them.
Salisbury has had its share of different kinds of hotels, but the purpose was always the same – providing a night’s rest for the weary traveler.
MPT presents its second Addiction & Recovery Week in February
Broadcast programs and web-based content focus on state’s opioid addiction crisis
OWINGS MILLS, MD – Building on a slate of similar program a year ago, Maryland Public Television (MPT) will present its second “Addiction & Recovery Week” in early February. This schedule of special programs, February 7 to 9, examines the impact of opioid addiction gripping Maryland and the nation as a whole and highlights stories of hope, treatment, and recovery.
“One of the things we’ve all learned is that the opioid addiction plague is no respecter of age, sex, income or residency,” said MPT President and CEO Larry D. Unger. “Through our ongoing ‘Addiction & Recovery Week’ programming, we hope to shed light on ways to beat this implacable enemy.”
On Wednesday, February 7 the documentary Understanding the Opioid Epidemic airs at 10 p.m. on MPT2. The one-hour film combines stories of people and communities affected by the opioid epidemic along with information from experts and those at the frontlines of the battle. The program examines how the nation arrived at this crisis point, as well as possible solutions for dealing with the still expanding epidemic.
The following evening, on Thursday, February 8 at 10 p.m. on MPT-HD, the station airs Maryland’s Opioid Crisis: Strength and Shame. Produced by Capital News Service’s ViewFinder storytelling team through the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, this one-hour program takes an in-depth look at the opioid epidemic over the period of one year in Anne Arundel County. Viewers meet affected parents, children and community members and see how law enforcement is working to address the problem.

Maryland State Police Reminds Motorists To Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over This Super Bowl Weekend
With the Super Bowl just a few days away, the Maryland State Police will be focusing on statewide impaired driving enforcement efforts during the weekend and would like to remind motorists to drive sober or get pulled over.
Enforcement this weekend will be bolstered by impaired driving saturation patrol funds from the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office. The Highway Safety Office has planned an initiative to enforce impaired driving violations. This US 40 corridor initiative will be supported by the Cumberland, Hagerstown, Frederick, Waterloo, Golden Ring, Bel Air and North East barracks along with other allied agencies that patrol the corridor. This initiative is focused specifically on impaired driving violations on the roadways throughout the state.
The State Police Impaired Driving Reduction Effort Team, otherwise known as the SPIDRE team, will be out in full force this weekend. Since its inception in May 2013, the SPIDRE team has made 2,539 DUI arrests, 120 criminal arrests and 7,771 traffic stops while also issuing 17,223 citations and 3,734 warnings. The goal of the SPIDRE team is to focus on reducing alcohol related crashes in Maryland by targeting areas across the state with high crash rates involving impaired drivers.
On average, there are 7,884 impaired driving crashes statewide annually, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation. Make sure using a designated driver is the number one play in your playbook and have a sober driver chosen before going out for the night.

Report: The FBI is "Threatening" Trump Over the FISA Memo
“They’re terrified, they’re frantic”
The FBI is “threatening” Donald Trump over the imminent release of the FISA memo, according to Judicial Watch director of investigations Chris Farrell.
The FBI is desperately trying to prevent the release of the FISA memo, which reportedly contains evidence that the Obama administration spied on members of the Trump campaign.
The agency issued a rare statement yesterday declaring it had “grave concerns” about the accuracy of the classified document, which is set to be released today.
Appearing on Fox Business with Lou Dobbs, Judicial Watch’s Chris Farrell said, “The FBI is threatening the president of the United States.”

Proof that ADHD is a Fake Disease
Via The Daily Bell
Some children are better at paying attention than others. Some can cope with, or even enjoy, a school classroom setting. Some kids have more energy than others. Some are good at following directions, and some are easily distracted.
But just because a classroom is not a good environment for many children does not mean they have a disorder. They may have an Attention Deficit because they are bored. They may he Hyperactive because they are cooped up and forced to sit still at a desk. But this does not constitute a Disorder.
What happened to the belief in the uniqueness of a child? Aren’t they told they don’t have to fit in? And then if the factory school system doesn’t work for them, they have a disorder.
Instead of treating children like individuals, schools and parents act like they have no other choice but to let drugs make the behavioral adjustments. How sad that there is more willingness to drug kids to make them fit in, instead of changing the system, or being attentive to individual needs.
The Tragicomedy of ADHD
An article about ADHD from Healthline would be funny if it weren’t tragic.
Who gets ADHD, a graphic asks? Children living below 2x the poverty line are at an increased risk. Boys are 3x more likely to be afflicted than girls. Children with mild ADHD are usually diagnosed at 8 years old, while children with severe ADHD are diagnosed at 5 years old.
Wow! What genius did this research? Boys run around more than girls? You can tell which kids have more energy at a younger age? Kids with a less stable upbringing are less well behaved? Somebody deserves a Nobel prize.
Girls symptoms are less obvious, the article says. To act withdrawn or have a tendency to daydream constitutes a disorder. Of course, this couldn’t have anything to do with the system! Surely being force-fed boring and irrelevant lessons couldn’t have anything to do with a tendency to daydream.
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) says 4% of children have ADHD, while the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) claims the number is closer to 11%.
Raise your hand if you’re surprised the government almost triples the estimate for ADHD affliction compared to a private organization.

SHOCK POLL: 'Blue Wave' Evaporates, 2018 Generic Ballot Back to Dead Heat
A Monmouth University poll released Wednesday shows Democrats with only a “negligible edge” over Republicans for November’s Congressional elections.
The poll, conducted over three days almost entirely before President Donald Trump’s well-received State of the Union Address, shows 47 percent of respondents saying they would vote for a generic congressional Democrat compared to 45 percent for a generic Republican, well within the poll’s 3.5 percent margin of error. This figure is a massive shift from earlier polls showing double digit Democratic leads and fueling pundits’ talk of a “blue wave” that could sweep Republicans from power.
The same polling agency, the Monmouth University Polling Institute (MUPI), found a 15 point generic Democratic advantage using the same question only last month.
Patrick Murray, MUPI’s director, gave some context, noting generic polls’ volitility, but he confirmed that the figures, coupled with the same poll’s finding of growing support for the tax cut the GOP passed with no Democratic support, spells trouble for proponents of the “blue wave” theory. “The generic Congressional ballot is prone to bouncing around for a bit until the campaign really gets underway later this year. But Democrats who counted on riding public hostility toward the tax bill to retake the House may have to rethink that strategy,” he said.

Former NFL player living with CTE talks to Megyn Kelly
Former NFL player Mike Adamle, believed to be one of only a few living people ever diagnosed with the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), detailed his 20-year battle with the condition on Megyn Kelly TODAY Thursday morning.
As a result of CTE, the one-time Chicago Bears running back who went on to become a local sports anchor and host of the game show 'American Gladiators' suffered through epilepsy – once having a seizure on the air in 1999 – and depression before losing his career and his marriage.
'I felt like I was losing him,' said wife Kim, who remarried Adamle five years after their divorce. 'He was physically aggressive with me, which was not like Mike at all.'

Mayor Megan Barry Had Expensive Affair
Tennessee Democratic Mayor Megan Barry admitted she had an expensive affair with her head of security detail using taxpayer dollars, according to a Wednesday press conference.
Barry, who is married, apologized for having an affair with Metro police Sgt. Robert Forrest Jr. and using nearly $33,000 of the government’s money on their travel expenses over the last 10 months. Barry claims that her trips as mayor of Nashville, Tenn. were for business, including trips to Paris and Athens. However, Barry does not think she improperly misused taxpayer money, NPR reported.
“I’m embarrassed, and I am sad, and I am so sorry for all the pain that I have caused my family and his family,” Barry said Wednesday. “I know that God will forgive me, but that Nashville doesn’t have to. … I hope that I can earn your trust back and that you will forgive me.”

GOP Rep Drops A Hint About FISA Memo
Republican South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan has read the FISA memo and says Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton should be scared of its contents.
The memo is set to be released as soon as Friday. The Trump administration will send the House a redacted version of the memo for release Friday morning, according to reports. Democrats and intelligence agencies criticized the release and authoring of the memo.
Many Republican members of Congress who have seen it say it will shed a great deal of light on the way Obama’s Justice Department operated. One of those Republicans is Jeff Duncan, who said this on Twitter Thursday:
Having read “The Memo,” the FBI is right to have “grave concerns” – as it will shake the organization down to its core – showing Americans just how the agency was weaponized by the Obama officials/DNC/HRC to target political adversaries. #ReleaseTheMemo
