Puerto Rico voters overwhelmingly choose to become 51st state, but no change expected

Puerto Rican voters seemed to be on track to choose statehood over both independence and the status quo in overwhelming numbers Sunday, but the referendum isn't expected to actually change the financially-challenged island's status.

The referendum is non-binding and Congress would have to approve it, which election observers say is doubtful at a time when Puerto Rico is facing a debt and unemployment crisis.

What Went Wrong?

By Thornton Crowe

An interesting conversation with a friend prompted a discussion about Salisbury's Downtown Plaza and what happened to the area as we knew it when we were little kids. There were all kinds of stores and fond memories but when you look at it now, it just looks like this vast wasteland, even in the light of a regular workday. Even in the Eighties, downtown had a little more pulse. The WMDT station looked clean and fresh rather than the mold-smelling eyesore it is today.

Besides yelling litigants leaving and lawyers going to court, downtown is not where it's all happening, contrary to the dippy commercial which molests my television daily Truth be told, it's liken to those burned out ghost towns in Michigan and Ohio. Most of the storefronts are empty, denoting decades of deterioration from neglect - nothing close to its former glory.

When did it this happen?

Molly's Parents Must Be So Proud

These are the very same people who call ME the Anti Christ of Salisbury. The LGBT group of Liberals who simply hate me and say I'm a cancer to the Shore. These liars are the very people who go around acting like they love Salisbury and the environment. Just imagine if I had such a picture taken of me in front of the GOB. What would the Liberals be saying then?

It makes me sick to my stomach watching these alleged all about love and peace phony pukes running around trying to brainwash everyone as if we conservatives are the problem.

Will you see it in the Daily Times, WBOC or WMDT? Oh no, it's far too nasty for REGULAR human beings to view. At least that will be the MSM's excuse. So I guess I am the Anti Christ for expressing MY right to free speech by publishing the TRUTH.

God Forbid the LIBERALS are exposed for who they really are, while the rest of the media keeps them in the closet.

So I ask, who's the cancer now?

Brooke Mulford: "The Time Has Come"

The time has come...Brooke had a CT scan last night of her abdomen and head. Dr Maris told me this morning that the disease has filled her liver and her skull is covered and the tumors are pressing on her brain again. Her lower spine is covered with disease and she has very little feeling from the waist down. She will get platelets daily to help keep her from having the pain of another brain bleed. Palliative chemo will stop. We will do everything we can to keep her comfortable. Please pray for peace for both of us.

Radio Shack GONE!

By Thornton Crowe

It's official: Radio Shack is gone!

A college town with no Radio Shack, no Apple store, no place to find electronic trinkets you need for things like your digital cameras and other little things you take for granted every day. Now you'll have to go to Easton to buy your electronic fix-it needs.

Salisbury's had this company since the old mall but now it's a memory - like so many other companies other towns and cities have that we don't have; but by God, we have a Krispy Kreme (finally) so who cares. Right?

While it's not the city's fault the company decided to close this store, it shows how this area isn't sustaining retail the way it used to back when we were a prosperous town. We've lost a lot as others have indicated in comments on other articles.

Wonder why? Could it be because there's no more Chris Craft, Dresser, Crowne, et. al who've left their area for better towns. The creeping liberalism has continued to kill Salisbury until it is no more. As one commenter wrote on What Went Wrong, the fix is in and people like Day, Gilkerson and others will continue to rape the community until they've made bank, then split to Florida like so many former Salisbury's movers and shakers of yesteryear.

Happy trails, Salisbury. Your boy mayor is doing a grand job, isn't he?

Removing The Railing On The River In Salisbury Maryland Was A Very Big Mistake

I'm not sure what Idiot thought removing the railing along the River Walk in Downtown Salisbury was a good idea but now they are calling yesterday's recovery a drowning.

People, you need to let this Boy Mayor know how YOU feel about this. One look at this picture tells you there's no easy access to get out once you fall in. I say fall because no one is stupid enough to jump into that pile of crap.

Investigative Reporting Or BS?

Some might even say it's manufacturing news.

This morning WBOC claimed they FOUND this story on social media, (change.org) but you and I both know that's a load of crap.

Some Liberal Snowflake fed WBOC this take down this confederate marker story. I just love how they make such a BS story even bigger by using words like HEATED on the Internet.

So why no statement from Boy Mayor Jake Day or County Executive Bob Culver? I can see Culver now, Oh blow it out your..... nose. WBOC's response, CUT!

Hey WBOC, how many rapes have there been in Salisbury this year? Now that's a story!

Update: Boy Mayor Jake Day just signed the petition.

JUST IN: Ocean City Council Passes Emergency Ordinance While Awaiting AG Opinion

Ocean City, Maryland – (June 10, 2017): While the Worcester County States’ Attorney waits for an opinion from the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, the Ocean City Council has passed local legislation after a woman expressed her desire to be bare-chested on Ocean City’s beach. The woman, an advocate to “normalize bare-chestedness,” believes it is her constitutional right under equal protection to be bare-chested in public.

Ocean City officials disagree. The Council met on Saturday, June 10, to pass an emergency ordinance that prohibits offenses involving public nudity or those in a state of nudity. The ordinance states “there is no constitutional right for an individual to appear in public nude or in a state of nudity. Whatever personal right one has to be nude or in a state of nudity that right becomes subject to government interest and regulation when one seeks to exercise it in public.”

Further, the ordinance reads, “equal protection clause does not demand that things that are different in fact be treated the same in law, nor that a government pretend there are no physiological differences between men and women.”

The council voted unanimously in favor of the emergency ordinance.

What Idiot Allowed Them To Close On Ramp To Bypass From Rt. 13?

While the state wants to claim closing this on ramp will only add FIVE MINUTES to your commute, ANYONE believing this to be true is a complete Idiot too.

There should be laws against such construction during summer months and why legislators have never addressed such an issue makes them Idiots as well.

Let me assure you, I will NOT be traveling from Ocean City to Salisbury to do any shopping for the next 4 months, they'll lose ALL of my business, period.

Breaking News: ISIS has claimed the London attack

The prime minister declared earlier, "Enough is enough," vowing to intensify counterterror efforts.

Declaring “enough is enough,” Prime Minister Theresa May vowed on Sunday a sweeping review of Britain’s counterterrorism strategy after three knife-wielding assailants killed at least seven and injured dozens more in the third major terrorist attack in the country in three months.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack via its Amaq news service, with the statement distributed on its channels on the messaging app Telegram. Quoting a “security source,” ISIS said the attack was carried out by “a detachment of Islamic State fighters.”

Absent Formal Attorney General Opinion, New Topless Women Policy In Place On Ocean City Beach

OCEAN CITY — With still no formal opinion from the Maryland Attorney General’s Office on the legality of women going topless in the same area as men are allowed to go shirtless, the Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP) this week issued a directive to turn a blind eye, so to speak, on the issue.

Last August, at the request of Maryland resident Chelsea Covington, Worcester County State’s Attorney Beau Oglesby reached out to the Maryland Attorney General’s Office (MAGO) seeking an opinion on the legality of women going topless in the same areas where men are allowed to go shirtless under the Equal Protection Act. It’s an opinion that could have serious repercussions in the resort area. Covington, an advocate for female bare-chestedness in public through the TopFreedom initiative, often goes topless in public places in Maryland, including Ocean City and Assateague.

Roughly 10 months later, the MAGO has not handed down a formal opinion on the issue, nor ostensibly any directives for law enforcement agencies on how to handle the issue in the interim. Absent a clear-cut directive from the Attorney General’s Office, the Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP) and the Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) are handling the female topless issue with kid gloves, careful to respect the rights of all involved including those females who choose to go topless and the countless visitors and residents who might be offended.

A Viewer Writes: Wendy's to be no more In Salisbury?

The South Salisbury Boulevard Wendy's at Bateman Street, directly across the street from Salisbury University has closed. Not an indication that Wendy's ever occupied the property is in evidence, save the company colors and some ghosts of advertising stickers on its windows. This closing follows the Punkin Court closure in December, 2016. The third location, opposite The Centre at Salisbury on Route 13 North, is now the sole survivor.

They are now going around with a ruler about height of grass and grass in curbs, they should look at their own back door; the grass (weeds) in front to Bennett High School are about 2 feet tall but people get citations when their is moss or stubble grass. I just got 2 citations for the same thing dated 1 day apart with one written on the first of June with a compliance date of the 3rd. They. Sby Housing, mailed it on the 2nd. It seems they hire a bunch of misfits. They also target rental property of owner occupied properties.

US 13 SOUTH RAMP TO SALISBURY BYPASS WILL TEMPORARILY CLOSE

Three-Month Closure Needed for Motorist and Worker Safety during Bridge Repairs

Beginning this weekend, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close the US 13 south (Salisbury Boulevard) ramp to US 13 south/US 50 east (Salisbury Bypass). The approximately three-month closure is necessary to ensure the safety of workers and motorists during repairs to the ramp bridge over US 13 Business.

Crews will post detour signs to direct drivers to take the US 13 south ramp to US 50/Salisbury Bypass west, exit at Naylor Mill Road, turn left then left again onto the Salisbury Bypass heading south/east. This detour will add approximately five miles to the trip so motorists should add commute time. Temporary traffic signals will be installed at the Naylor Mill Road ramps to improve safety and facilitate traffic flow during the detour.

With good weather this work will be completed by September.

Replacement of the US 13 ramp bridge end sections is part of the two-year, $24 million Salisbury Bypass 11-bridge rehabilitation project awarded to Corman Construction of Annapolis Junction. In May MDOT completed similar repairs to the northbound bridges over US 50 (Ocean Gateway) and MD 346 (Old Ocean City Road), as well as repairs to the bridge over Norfolk-Southern Railroad. Work on the northbound bridges over MD 350 (Mount Hermon Road) and Parker Pond will continue into the summer. In October, similar repairs will begin on the southbound bridges and the entire project will be completed by summer 2018.

Nearly 40,000 vehicles including a large percentage of commercial trucks travel this part of US 13 each day.

Road projects are underway across Maryland. Click here for e-Road Ready 2017, an interactive map of MDOT SHA’s largest projects throughout the State.

Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.

Ocean City Is NOT A Topless Beach

Despite what is being circulated on social media, the Town of Ocean City is not a topless beach and will not become a topless beach. The intent of the policy that is being reported on was strictly for our Beach Patrol employees. We want our lifeguards to have their eyes on the ocean, as the safety of our swimmers is their first priority. Our police department, on the other hand, will respond to calls from the Beach Patrol and complaints from our beach patrons, should any activity of toplessness occur. We have received dozens of phone calls, read thousands of comments and answered numerous emails from our residents and visitors expressing their concerns. We assure you we share those concerns and intend to do whatever is necessary to prevent this from happening on our beach, or in any public area in Ocean City.

What's Happening? 6-6-17

Let everyone know what is happening in the area.  The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Cruisin’ Debate Long On Questions, Comments, But Short On Easy Solutions

OCEAN CITY — Local residents and business owners weighed in Monday on some of the issues related to Cruisin’ Ocean City after one of the more troublesome events in May, but it appears there are more questions than answers for now about the future of the event.

While most of the 3,000-plus registered attendees participate in the officially sanctioned events such as the Boardwalk parade and the car shows at the Inlet, a far greater number of hangers-on race up and down resort streets, peel out and leave rubber on the roadways and smoke and fumes lingering in the otherwise clean ocean air, and line the sidewalks with beach chairs and watch the carnage with coolers and open containers of alcohol.

It’s certainly not a new issue. Naturally, when a narrow 10-mile barrier island hosts thousands of classic cars and hot rods of all shapes and sizes, there inevitably comes traffic jams, parking problems, noise, trash and other illicit behavior. This year was particularly troublesome for a variety of reasons, including the summer-like weather that attracted thousands more not associated with the event, resulting a jam-packed weekend that kept cash registers ringing, but created headaches for residents and the Ocean City Police Department (OCPD).

Wicomico Mulling Fire Commission

SALISBURY – The Wicomico County Council this week approved the formation of a workgroup that will look into a countywide fire service commission.

In an open work session Tuesday, Wayne Strausburg, director of administration, approached the council about forming a commission that would handle matters relating to certain county services.

“I think the question at hand is whether or not the executive and council believe that an appointed body should be created to advise them on pertinent matters relating to fire and EMS services in the county,” he said.

Strausburg explained that the proposed commission would handle matters related to budgets, funding, territories, employment, financial statements, performance metrics and the like. Commission members would act as an advisory board of sorts, consulting elected officials on such subjects as it pertains to fire and EMS services.

McDermott starts campaign for Worcester County sheriff

Mike McDermott, former mayor of Pocomoke City and a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates, announced last Thursday that he is running for Worcester County sheriff.

“This is the most heartfelt office I’ve sought. It took a lot encouragement from my wife, Laura, to get me to the podium tonight,” McDermott said during his campaign kick-off event at the Atlantic Hotel in Berlin. “She knows about the cost of this, and Laura said ‘you don’t want to be sitting back and asking what if.’”

McDermott has been in law enforcement for 36 years, starting in North Carolina. He later moved to Pocomoke City with his family in 1988, after he joined the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.

Since then, he’s almost done it all, State’s Attorney Beau Oglesby said during his introduction of McDermott.

Thoughts From The Publisher’s Desk – June 9, 2017

by

Ignore it — that’s the approach the Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP) has essentially adopted when it comes to barechested women on the beach. If a complaint is made by another person on the beach, the lifeguard on duty is to document it but not take action.

The matter of women going topless in Ocean City seems like a simple issue on the surface but from a legal perspective it’s anything but in reality. Most cultural and individual norms in this country indicate women’s breasts should not be exposed in public for all to see. However, many are maintaining if men can do it women should be able as well.

It’s anything but an easy matter in the year 2017. In fact, it’s quite complicated. That’s confirmed by the state’s Attorney General’s Office apparent struggle with the legal matter. It’s quite obvious a change in the law will be needed to have a clear and clean determination of decency. As it stands today, according to the law, women have the same right as men to walk around without a shirt or undergarment. As a result, the OCBP has directed its lifeguards with an official policy statement detailing the “hands-off” approach (I couldn’t resist that pun).

Woman accused of using paint roller to destroy Canada goose eggs behind home

BYRON TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A Kent County woman ran afoul of the law for allegedly using a paint roller to smash several Canada goose eggs in a nest behind her home in early April.

“Once every couple of years we’ll see something like this,’’ said Lt. Gerald Thayer, a conservation officer with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. “Most people realize they have to live with the wildlife, but this lady took matters into her own hands and decided to go out with a paint roller on an extension and destroy the eggs and the nest.’’

The 41-year-old woman was charged with a wildlife conservation violation, specifically, destroying eggs of a protected bird, court records show. It’s a misdemeanor punishable by 90 days in jail.

Atheist Group Supports Public School Providing TWO Classrooms For Muslim Prayer

It’s currently Ramadan, one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar. Ramadan is marked by fasting throughout the entire month, as well as regular prayers throughout the day. One public high school has turned two unused rooms into prayer rooms for Muslim students — a reasonable accommodation, to be sure. But what has eyebrows raised is that an atheist group has no objections.

Shenendehowa High School in New York state invited an imam to meet with principal Donald Flynt, so the school could learn about Islam, and after the meeting, arranged for the two vacant rooms to be opened and used as prayer rooms during Ramadan, which runs from May 27th through June 24th this year. “[Ramadan is] a month long and there are certain obligations that must be done in addition to praying,” school district spokeswoman Kelly DeFeciani said. “Principal Flynt wanted those students who observe Ramadan to be able to stay in school and also fulfill their religious obligations.” The rooms will also not be limited to any one specific faith.

DeFeciani explained that “making the rooms available is part of our effort with cultural proficiency. We are trying to get people to understand all different cultures. We want to make the school conducive, so all students can learn, can feel accepted, and feel understood. With this effort, this group can meet both their educational and religious obligations. In this case, it’s the principal’s decision. He’s doing it to meet the needs of his students.”

Vote Being Held This Sunday In Puerto Rico To Determine Whether They Want To Become 51st State

On Sunday, Puerto Ricans are going to the polls to decide again on the issue of statehood.

Officially a territory, the island doesn’t have any voting representation in Congress. But if a statehood referendum passes, it could dramatically alter the balance of power in Washington.

A heavily leftist territory, making Puerto Rico a state could mean two Democratic Senators and five Democratic House members added to Congress. Puerto Rico is home to 3.5 million Americans.

The statehood issue comes up relatively frequently, with voters choosing to retain their special “territory” status every time.

But this time might be different. If it is approved, it would relieve the island from their fiscal crisis. States can manage money much differently than territories and they would be able to navigate their overwhelming debt.

Black Lives Matter Wants YOU To Boycott The NFL

So now Shaun King one of the faces of Blacklivesmatter, is upset with the NFL and is asking us to boycott them. First of all, we been there done that and you’re a little late to the cause King. However, as you may have expected already…his cause differs from ours. he is upset about Kaepernick’s career looking as though it is going down the drain. (By the way, why aren’t all the other athletes who jumped on the Kaepernick bandwagon getting the same treatment?)

Here’s what I have to say about all this….he screwed up, it’s his fault. If you act like a jerk , don’t expect to be invited to the party. Honestly though, I never watched a football game in my life, I will start now. Thanks King for the inspiration!

However, on the other hand, I was thinking…and if I remember right…NFL ratings has gone way down since they came out in support of Kaepernick and did not support Dallas support for law enforcement. Their rating will continue to fall this year.
This idiot will try to take credit for the ratings falling even though it’s the right who have tired of the BS coming out of the NFL players as well as Headquarters. Go figure lol

Maryland heroin dealer charged with involuntary manslaughter

Chris Jones has been searching for a way to express her grief after losing her son Brandon to a drug overdose.

"The worst of my life, words can’t describe what it’s been like," she said.

It's been seven months, but she has found a new friend in Sheriff Gary Hofmann.

"Anytime we have someone in the county that has an overdose, we’re looking at who supplied them with that narcotic and if we can determine who supplied that narcotic I’ve made a promise that we are going to come after that person and charge them with the actually crime," Hofmann said.

And he has come through on that promise... twice.

For the second time in a few months someone has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of an overdose. Police say Nathan Johnson sold Brandon Roe the heroin that killed Roe.

SALISBURY, MARYLAND TO HOST NATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL, 2018 THROUGH 2020

Salisbury, MD – Mayor Jake Day is excited to announce that Salisbury has been named the official 2018 – 2020 National Folk Festival Host City. Salisbury was among 34 cities nationwide that competed for the honor of hosting the nation’s preeminent traveling celebration of traditional arts and culture for a three-year stay in 2018, 2019 and 2020. The City of Salisbury and the National Council for the Traditional Arts (NCTA) made the announcement today at a press event in Downtown Salisbury. The Festival will begin its three-year stay in Salisbury in September of 2018.

The prestigious National Folk Festival is the nation’s longest-running traditional arts event: a three-day, free, outdoor, multicultural celebration of music, dance and traditional arts and culture, which historically draws upwards of 150,000 attendees, along with an economic impact of approximately $30 million a year.

Produced by the non-profit National Council for the Traditional Arts, the National Folk Festival has been presented in 28 cities across the country, from Chattanooga to Nashville, Richmond and Greensboro, since its inception in 1934. The NCTA partners with communities across the nation to present the Festival, which is free to the public, for three years with the understanding that the local host community intends to continue its own festival once the National moves on to its next site.

75% of Black California Boys don't Meet State Reading Standards

Three of four African-American boys in California classrooms failed to meet reading and writing standards on the most recent round of testing, according to data obtained from the state Department of Education and analyzed by CALmatters. (Anda Chu/Bay Area News Group)

Across ethnicities and economic status, girls outperform boys on English in standardized tests

Three of four African-American boys in California classrooms failed to meet reading and writing standards on the most recent round of testing, according to data obtained from the state Department of Education and analyzed by CALmatters.

More than half of black boys scored in the lowest category on the English portion of the test, trailing their female counterparts. The disparity reflects a stubbornly persistent gender gap in reading and writing scores that stretches across ethnic groups.

The data provide a unique glimpse of how gender interacts with race and class in mastery of basic reading, writing and listening skills tested on state exams. While California publishes separate figures on the performance of various ethnic and economic groups, it does not make public a more detailed breakdown of how boys and girls are performing within those groups. State officials say they do not sort the data that way because of complexity, cost and time constraints.

Unlike in math, where girls have caught up to boys in California and elsewhere, female students in general maintain a sizable lead over their male classmates in the language arts. While initiatives to encourage girls to learn math and science have received considerable publicity, the gender reading gap is viewed less as a problem warranting action.

Oklahoma man shoots, kills neighbor who was trying to drown twin babies

ADA, Okla. - An Ada man was shot and killed by a neighbor Friday after he tried drowning twin babies.

“It’s awful because I’ve held the babies and, like, I’ve played with them and I just gave them clothes yesterday," said neighbor Summer Pierce.

Officials say Leland Foster was allegedly threatening the mother of the children with a knife during the ordeal.

A 12-year-old girl who was in the home ran to a neighbor's house for help.

The neighbor, Cash Freeman, rushed back over to the home to find Foster trying to drown the 3-month-old twins, a boy and a girl, in the bathtub.

He then shot Foster twice in the back with a gun.

Rules of Fake News Engagement

By Thornton Crowe

"The rules are, they're ain't no rules, Zuko..." Grease (1976)

Yes, we all expected liberal media to go postal over the Paris Agreement (which most hadn't read, even now) but this has gone beyond or demonstrates just how stupid they think you are as a viewer/reader.

It is no secret by now, the country is hypersensitive to fake news. We look for it in every story we hear or read and question it's validity. Smart voters saw through the subterfuge  of the last election and realized there's more fake than real going on in our country right now. While on the other hand, some believe the fake and question the real. It's a real mess that at some point, will need to be sorted out.

Unnamed sources are not uncommon in the news industry; in fact, it's a staple for which we can get good intel. However, when the media is purposefully skewing the information to fit some grand agenda, it becomes another thing entirely. It is lying to the public and one would think you, the consumer of news, would be fed up with this nonsense - especially from your local media whose supposed to be a part of the community they serve.
