It’s currently Ramadan, one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar. Ramadan is marked by fasting throughout the entire month, as well as regular prayers throughout the day. One public high school has turned two unused rooms into prayer rooms for Muslim students — a reasonable accommodation, to be sure. But what has eyebrows raised is that an atheist group has no objections.
Shenendehowa High School in New York state invited an imam to meet with principal Donald Flynt, so the school could learn about Islam, and after the meeting, arranged for the two vacant rooms to be opened and used as prayer rooms during Ramadan, which runs from May 27th through June 24th this year. “[Ramadan is] a month long and there are certain obligations that must be done in addition to praying,” school district spokeswoman Kelly DeFeciani said. “Principal Flynt wanted those students who observe Ramadan to be able to stay in school and also fulfill their religious obligations.” The rooms will also not be limited to any one specific faith.
DeFeciani explained that “making the rooms available is part of our effort with cultural proficiency. We are trying to get people to understand all different cultures. We want to make the school conducive, so all students can learn, can feel accepted, and feel understood. With this effort, this group can meet both their educational and religious obligations. In this case, it’s the principal’s decision. He’s doing it to meet the needs of his students.”

ReplyDeleteKeep religion out of public schools PERIOD then no one can bitch.
ReplyDeleteTHIS is what is wrong with America!
ReplyDeleteAllowing Muslims in our schools with special privileges and kicking out Christianity, God, Prayer, pledge of allegiance and the US flag. Where is the ACLU and a discrimination law suit? Our leaders have a lot to answer for.
ReplyDeletethey are both of satan of course they dont object--only to the cross which scares them
ReplyDeleteCorrection: The rooms can be used for ANY religious prayer, not just Muslim.
ReplyDeleteThe FFRF does not object because it is student led, and non compulsory, and inclusive of all religions/faiths and denominations there of.
The FFRF is not anti-religion, they are champions of supporting and ensuring the enforcement of the Establishment Clause of the Constitution.
As so far there has been no violation of the wall of separation, the FFRF has no reason to act.
They want to pray. Let them go back to wherever the h them came from
ReplyDeleteExactly. And remove "under god" from The Pledge as well since it was not originally a part of it and has no place in public schools.
DeleteAlso it should be pointed out that not objecting to this is NOT the same as supporting it. The FFRF did say that this situation warranted monitoring to be sure that it did not get carried away.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of misinformation implied by the headline of this article, just sayin, everyone being all sensitive about "fake news" and all... seems that it would be important to get the details right.
Allowing Islam into schools in like inviting termites into the foundation of your home.

ReplyDeleteWhen you said "Islam" you really meant "Religion". Allowing religion into schools is like inviting termites into the foundation of your home.
since an atheist group supports this it means Islam isnt a religion

DeleteAthiests are the worlds ANTICHRIST who will rot in eternal HELL.
DeleteHaven't schools across the country get hit with a law suit when they open board meetings with a prayer or the coach of the team says a group prayer before a game? But this is OK . . . .
ReplyDeleteYep its Islam testing the WEAK dems Waters but we REPUBLICAN PATRIOTS will NOT ALLOW IT.
