Thoughts From The Publisher’s Desk – June 9, 2017

by

Ignore it — that’s the approach the Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP) has essentially adopted when it comes to barechested women on the beach. If a complaint is made by another person on the beach, the lifeguard on duty is to document it but not take action.

The matter of women going topless in Ocean City seems like a simple issue on the surface but from a legal perspective it’s anything but in reality. Most cultural and individual norms in this country indicate women’s breasts should not be exposed in public for all to see. However, many are maintaining if men can do it women should be able as well.

It’s anything but an easy matter in the year 2017. In fact, it’s quite complicated. That’s confirmed by the state’s Attorney General’s Office apparent struggle with the legal matter. It’s quite obvious a change in the law will be needed to have a clear and clean determination of decency. As it stands today, according to the law, women have the same right as men to walk around without a shirt or undergarment. As a result, the OCBP has directed its lifeguards with an official policy statement detailing the “hands-off” approach (I couldn’t resist that pun).

  1. Sorry, but I am going to need to see some examples, just 10-12 of them, that's all.

  2. Steve Green is the worst excuse for a reporter there is. If his daddy didn't leave him the paper, he would be on unemployment

  3. Absolutely
How would one know in what gender a person may be expressing at any given time?
There are no differences (any longer) between men and women.
Some women now have sperm, and some men now have eggs.
There are men with breasts and women with Adam's apples.
    And everyone now has tattoos.

    Thank you

  4. Give a thought, women, to all the photos of your topless selves that will make it into social media. And of your teen and preteen daughters!

  7. Well, if it is allowed, scratch Ocean City off the family-friendly list.

What about exposing the breast when you are breastfeeding in public Ocean City? It should be okay if you are allowed to go topless on the beach.

  9. Remember this - there are ALOT of SICK TWISTED people in this world, and most of them walk right next to you! If you flaunt it then be prepared to handle anything that is thrown at you! Don't say that you didn't ask for it! Can't wait to see how this NEW APPROACH affects the ECONOMY in OCEAN CITY!!!!

  10. Anybody want to bet the MD AG plans to run for Gov next year? He's too busy to do MD law while focusing on preventing the President from MAGA.

  11. 11:16. That's kind of a silly comment. If you don't want your picture taken topless, don't take your top off!

  12. Where can I find them! :)

  13. From Steve Green in the article "That rude, intolerant and elitist attitude, in part, has us where we are today regarding the Cruisin’ weekend issues."

I submit to Mr. Green that your statement applies to all things in general. Including how the media has been trashing our President. Also I used to feel that Fundamentalist Christians were the most intolerant people, now I have come to realize it is liberals that have become the most intolerant.

  14. I told my wife about this and she wouldn't bite.
I hope those who choose to do it, do so with modesty. We don't want horny husbands hurting their necks!
    Oh yeah, little boys, too.

  15. 1103 has a good point. If a woman is identifying as a man, then she can remove the shirt.
    Men can remove the shirt.
So if I claim to be a man, I can remove my shirt.

How can the police say otherwise?

I can be whatever I wish to be - isn't that the new mantra?
