STATE POLICE HELICOPTER RESCUES THREE FROM LAKE LINGANORE
Maryland State Police Helicopter, Trooper 3, performed a hoist rescue over Lake Linganore on the evening of June 27, 2015. A group of nine individuals were aboard a pontoon boat on the lake when the boat approached a spillway on the west side of the lake. Heavy rains had created a significant current due to the water rushing over the spillway.
The boat became trapped in the current and subsequently went over the dam onto the rocky spillway below. Four individuals on the dam ledge were able to be rescued by members of Frederick County Fire and Rescue via boat and one individual was rescued from the water by the Frederick County Swift Water Rescue Team. Three juveniles remained trapped on the rocks at the bottom of the spillway and were inaccessible by land or boat. One additional victim was unfortunately deceased.
Helicopter “Trooper 3”, based out of Frederick Municipal Airport, arrived on the scene at 7:13 p.m. ready for hoist operations. The victims were located at the bottom of the spillway, trapped on rocks and a large log. Once on scene, the decision was made to conduct a hoist rescue due to the inaccessibility and concerns of hypothermia. A rescue basket was lowered down to the water beside victims. A 15 year-old female, climbed into the basket and was hoisted to safety inside the aircraft. Two subsequent hoist iterations successfully lifted two 17 year-old females to safety. Once secured in the aircraft, the victims were flown a short distance to Trooper 3’s hangar located at the Frederick Municipal Airport where a waiting advanced life support ambulance evaluated the victims and transported them to Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Trooper 3, was able to successfully rescue all of the victims in just over 11 minutes from time of arrival. The rescue was an overwhelming success and demonstrated versatility of the crews and the AW-139 helicopter.
Trooper 3 was assisted at the scene by units from Frederick County Fire and Rescue and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police are investigating the incident.

Wicomico Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen Announces He Will Depart When His Current Contract Ends
Wicomico Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen, who has led Wicomico County Public Schools since 2008, announced at the June 23 Board of Education meeting that he will not seek a renewal of his current four-year contract when it ends next June. The Board voted unanimously to accept his resignation effective June 30, 2016.
“During the past seven years our teams have worked hard and have had wonderful successes with our students and schools,” Dr. Fredericksen said as he prepared to make the announcement. “I have been glad to serve Wicomico students, families and staff as part of a dedicated and effective team. I look forward to continuing this work for the next school year, but will not seek to extend my time as superintendent beyond next June. At that point in my life, and after a very long and satisfying career in public education, I will be ready to relocate along with my wife Renee closer to our children and grandchildren. I wanted to give the Board plenty of notice so it could begin a superintendent search.”
Dr. Fredericksen began serving July 1, 2008, and received a second four-year contract in 2012. His tenure is among the longest in the state of Maryland. He has been highly visible as superintendent, eating lunch in school cafeterias two to three times a week to chat with students, attending athletic events and performances to show support, and bringing together groups of parents, administrators, teachers, and community members to help guide the school system’s planning and operations.
More than a year ago, after participating in a retirement planning seminar, he began to consider retiring as superintendent of Wicomico County Public Schools, and discussed his plans with the Board President and other Board members.

JUST IN: S.C. governor: Remove Confederate flag from state Capitol
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called for the Confederate battle flag to be taken down from out in front of the state Capitol on Monday.
“For many people in our state, the flag stands for traditions that are noble,” said Haley. “At the same time for many others in South Carolina, the flag is a deeply offensive symbol of a brutally oppressive past.
“We do not need to declare a winner and a loser here,” recognizing that the debate should continue over whether or not South Carolinians fly the flag in private, “but the statehouse is different,” she said.

Hogan Wants To Recall MD Confederate Flag Plates
ANNAPOLIS, MD (ANN) - Maryland Governor Larry Hogan will reportedly pursue action to stop the state from issuing license tags with images of the Confederate battle flag.
The display of the Confederate flag has become a hot topic since an avowed racist was accused of gunning down nine people in a Charleston, South Carolina church last week.
According to the "Baltimore Sun" Jay Barringer, the state commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, said he was disappointed that governor Hogan had decided to take what he calls the "low road" and not defend the First Amendment.

Interesting Facts
Which of the above flags is the Confederate Flag?
1. Only 1.4% of Whites in U.S. had slaves in the US.
2. Only 4.8% of Whites in Southern States had Slaves.
3. Of the free Afro-Americans, it is estimated 28% held slaves… though many of these were family members bought from their slave owner. However, a few had more than 50 slaves.
4. General Robert E. Lee was not in favor of Slavery as evidenced by correspondence with his wife.
5. Of the up to 900,000 soldiers that fought for the Confederate, as many as 200,000 were Afro-American.
6. As many as 40% of the ‘cowboys’ in the west were Afro-Americans.
7. Of the 6,000,000 million African Slaves brought to the new world, only 478,000 were brought to the United States.
8. The capture of Africans that were forced into slavery were predominately captured by other Africans and sold to slave traders.
9. The Dutch, Brits and other Europeans were the primary slave traders, not the colonists brining them through the major Slave port at Bristol, England.
10. It is estimated that over ½ of all white settlers of the early colonies came as
indentured servants.
The original formation of the KKK was to terrorize Catholics… So with test facts, it is easy to see that the flag represents more that the issue of slavery in the south, the Civil war was a war of economics. Let the states fly the flag it represents a time in our history, and the bravery of all those who fought for the South, including the 200,000 Afro-Americans.
BREAKING NEWS: Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan discloses that he has ‘advanced’ cancer
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan disclosed Monday that he has been diagnosed with “a very advanced and very aggressive” form of cancer.
Hogan (R), who was sworn into office in January, said he would soon begin aggressive chemotherapy treatments, and would rely on Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford (R) to fill in for him on state business as needed.
He described the cancer as a lymphoma, and said it had spread through his abdomen and was “pressing up against my spinal column.”

A Letter To The Editor: Six months...no changes
Council members,
I was just reading your upcoming agenda. Disappointing that the noise ordinance STILL is not being finished up, how long does it really take???? Six months hasn't been enough obviously, but that UNUSED bike lane is surely being handled swiftly.
Mrs Mitchell....what happened to getting this noise ordinance on the "fast track" as you put it to me back in January?? Is this your idea of "fast tracking" something? Six months, and still nothing.....they come before dawn often, and stay til dark (9pm) almost EVERY DAY. The dust, trash, and noise is unacceptable to most everyone, except you....the ones who don't have to deal with it at all.
Its obvious its all about getting The Gathering's project done before August, no matter who it affects. Don't blame the Chief, don't blame the weather, don't blame THE CITIZENS FOR STANDING UP TO YOU!!! Do your jobs, get it passed!!!
Now, I know that means absolutely nothing to any of you, but I/we have no other recourse. The whole bunch of you is making certain that OUR RIGHTS to peacefully enjoy our homes is tossed aside in the name of profit. You keep saying "its the job of the administration to enforce this" Well I'm here to tell you that they don't do anything either. They cant...not until the penalty portion of the noise ordinance is enacted, but you wont do that for fear of making "hasty decisions" as Mr Day puts it.
Gillis Gilkerson violates the ordinance six days per week, and has for 7 months now. You guys, and the rest of the city officials are covering for them and allowing this to happen. There is no other explanation as to why you would allow this to drag out for so long. That tells everyone that you are ok with people breaking the law, but thats alright, as long as the city gets that tax revenue. Screw all the residents and their rights.
You guys should be ashamed of yourselves , you've made sure that my entire neighborhoods lives have been adversely affected by your slow playing this finalization of a SIMPLE ORDINANCE. I know NONE of you will respond to me anymore, and that's typical of a bunch of liberals, but that's not going to stop me from telling you like it is.
Its been more than 180 days, now its time to Get off your high horses and do your damn job to protect the very people that put your butts on the council to begin with.

Wicomico BOE $300,000 Yearly Lease of Private Property Offices - County BOE Resources Being Redirected Away from Schools
While Wicomico County Schools are currently vacant due to the summer vacation - the BOE redirects a substantial amount of its school support resources to outfit one of its newly acquired Leasehold properties at 2424 (located behind Lowe's).
It certainly makes one wonder why they couldn't have repurposed the Bennett Middle School Property - in light that it is about to be demolished.
Never again should Wicomico residents pockets be allowed to be 'ambushed' while the demolition crews prepare to demolish a perfectly sound building whereby the County already owns. If ever there were a picture that could speak a thousand words - the ones below says volumes about the inner workings going on within the Wicomico County Board of Education.
We suggest that you contact your legislators to express your dissatisfaction for misappropriation of taxpayers monies.

Walmart to stop selling Confederate flag merchandise
(CNN)Walmart, the country's largest retailer, will remove all Confederate flag merchandise from its stores, the company told CNN Monday.
The announcement is the latest indication that the flag, a symbol of the slave-holding South, has become toxic in the aftermath of a shooting last week at a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina. Gov. Nikki Haley announced in a Monday afternoon news conference that she supports removing the Confederate flag from the state capitol grounds.
Walmart.com currently carries the Confederate flag as well as attire featuring the flag's design, such as T-shirts and belt buckles.

Food Lion and Giant’s European owners plan to merge
The Belgian and Dutch companies that operate Food Lion and Giant stores in the United States plan to merge. The merger had been rumored for months.
The $29 billion stock merger of Ahold (Giant) and Delhaize (Food Lion) will give the combined company more than 6,500 stores with 375,000 associates as well as 50 million customers.
CEOs of the two companies cited similar corporate cultures and cost savings as strong arguments for the deal.
Ahold’s stores, which include Giant, Martin’s and Stop and Shop are located on the East Coast, while the smaller Food Lion markets are clustered in the Mid-Atlantic and South. The two companies get about half of their sales from US holdings.

JUST IN: Supreme Court gives Obama second big health care win in ruling upholding nationwide subsidies
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court has upheld the nationwide tax subsidies under President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, in a ruling that preserves health insurance for millions of Americans.
The justices said in a 6-3 ruling Thursday that the subsidies that 8.7 million people currently receive to make insurance affordable do not depend on where they live, under the 2010 health care law.
The outcome is the second major victory for Obama in politically charged Supreme Court tests of his most significant domestic achievement.

Politico: Donald Trump Terrifies Republican Establishment
All jokes aside, the Republican Party is officially afraid of Donald Trump.
He has virtually zero chance of winning the presidential nomination. But insiders worry that the loud-mouthed mogul is more than just a minor comedic nuisance on cable news; they fret that he’s a loose cannon whose rants about Mexicans and scorched-earth attacks on his rivals will damage the eventual nominee and hurt a party struggling to connect with women and minorities and desperate to win.
“Donald Trump is like watching a road-side accident,” said former George W. Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer. “Everybody pulls over to see the mess. And Trump thinks that’s entertainment. But running for president is serious. And the risk for the party is he tarnishes everybody.”

Supreme Court Rules Same-Sex Couples Have Right To Marry
The Supreme Court declared Friday that same-sex couples have a right to marry anywhere in the United States.
The outcome is the culmination of two decades of Supreme Court litigation over marriage, and gay rights generally.
In the majority opinion, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote that same-sex marriage must be allowed under the United States Constitution.
Chief Justice John Roberts, along with Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas dissented, and all wrote separate dissents.
Alito wrote, “Today’s decision usurps the constitutional right of the people to decide whether to keep or alter the traditional understanding of marriage.”
Roberts said gay marriage supporters should celebrate, but don’t celebrate the Constitution.
“If you are among the many Americans—of whatever sexual orientation—who favor expanding same-sex marriage, by all means celebrate today’s decision. Celebrate the achievement of a desired goal. Celebrate the opportunity for a new expression of commitment to a partner. Celebrate the availability of new benefits. But do not celebrate the Constitution. It had nothing to do with it,” Roberts wrote.
Scalia wrote his dissent “to call attention to this Court’s threat to American democracy.”
“Today’s decree says that my Ruler, and the Ruler of 320 million Americans coast-to-coast, is a
majority of the nine lawyers on the Supreme Court. The opinion in these cases is the furthest extension in fact—and the furthest extension one can even imagine—of the Court’s claimed power to create “liberties” that the Constitution and its Amendments neglect to mention. This practice of constitutional revision by an unelected committee of nine, always accompanied (as it is today) by extravagant praise of liberty, robs the People of the most important liberty they asserted in the Declaration of Independence and won in the Revolution of 1776: the freedom to govern themselves,” Scalia wrote.
Thomas wrote, “Aside from undermining the political processes that protect our liberty, the majority’s decision threatens the religious liberty our Nation has long sought to protect.”
President Barack Obama called the ruling a “big step in our march toward equality.”

TAKE DOWN THE FASCIST, ANTI-CHRISTIAN GAY-PRIDE FLAG
Under the banner of what is dishonestly called a gay pride or gay “rights” flag, hate, fascism, and intolerance has festered for years, specifically against Christians and conservatives. Under the auspices of a “rights and equality” symbol, Leftists have been on a rampage to take way the rights of others through bullying, lies, and online terrorism.
The list of misdeeds and victims resulting from an increasingly emboldened Big Gay Hate Machine continues to grow.
Under this banner of hate, people are outed against their will, terrorized out of businessmerely for being Christian, bullied and harassed for thoughtcrimes; moreover, “hate crimes” are being manufactured to keep us divided, Christians are refused service, death threats are hurled, and Christianity is regularly smeared as hate speech.
If individuals wish to fly this symbol of hate, oppression and bigotry on their own property, that is their choice in a free country. It is unconscionable, however, that this symbol of intolerance is allowed to fly above government-owned buildings.

‘Gone with the Wind’ should go the way of the Confederate flag
If the Confederate flag is finally going to be consigned to museums as an ugly symbol of racism, what about the beloved film offering the most iconic glimpse of that flag in American culture?
I’m talking, of course, about “Gone with the Wind,’’ which won a then-record eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture of 1939, and still ranks as the all-time North American box-office champ with $1.6 billion worth of tickets sold here when adjusted for inflation.
True, “Gone with the Wind’’ isn’t as blatantly and virulently racist as D.W. Griffith’s “Birth of a Nation,’’ which was considered one of the greatest American movies as late as the early 1960s, but is now rarely screened, even in museums.

Louis Farrakhan: ‘We Need to Put the American Flag Down’
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan expressed contempt for the American flag Wednesday, telling hundreds gathered in a D.C. church that it is a symbol of racism and needs to be brought down.
The controversial figure spoke at the Metropolitan AME Church, just one week after a white male shot and killed nine individuals at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina.
“White folks march with you because they don’t want you upset in the city,” Farrakhan said during his speech, a portion which was published online by WMAL. “They don’t give a damn about them nine. When they arrested that skunk …. they took him to the Burger King.”

The disturbing video shows two young females demanding the girl holding the baby “get up,” presumably to fight. When the girl, still holding a young child, didn’t get up, the attacker is seen dragging her out of her seat by her hair, sending her and the child tumbling to the ground.
The young child can be heard in the video crying hysterically.

While speaking in Turin, Italy, he stated, “If you trust only men you have lost. It makes me think of … people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit a distrust, doesn’t it?”
The pope then chastised those who invest in weapons industries saying, “duplicity is the currency of today … they say one thing and do another.”
Luke 22:36 comes to mind, “Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.” If nothing else, this Pope at least keeps things interesting.

Md. leaders join call to remove Confederate emblems
BALTIMORE —Leaders in Maryland are joining a call to remove Confederate emblems from state and local memorials and parks.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said she will proceed with changing the name of a popular park that bears the name of Robert E. Lee. It is the latest move to take down any signs of the Confederacy from public view in the wake of the church shootings in South Carolina.
Confederate symbols, particularly the flag, have been controversial and offensive to some for some time. But now, the move is on to make the symbols far less prominently displayed, much to the protest of those who say they just want to preserve part of the nation's history.

NAACP President: 'We Have to Allocate Resources to Address These Hate Groups'
(CNSNews.com) - The nation must address the "atmosphere of hate" and the "moral ugliness in our midst," NAACP President Cornell William Brooks said on Sunday.
And that will take money, he indicated: "We have to allocate resources to address these hate groups and these hate crimes," Brooks told CBS'S "Face the Nation."
Brooks noted that the murder of nine people in a Charleston Church last week may have happened in mere moments, "but it came into being over some time."
He said the suspect, 21-year-old Dylann Storm Roof, "was indoctrinated, radicalized, if you will, with an ideology of white nationalism or a racism, and so the point being here is we have got to look at not only this individual act of brutality. We also have to look at the atmosphere from which it emerged.

JUST IN: Alabama Gov. Bentley removes Confederate flags from Capitol grounds
On the order of Gov. Robert Bentley, the Confederate battle flag which stands at the foot of the confederate memorial on the state Capitol grounds was taken down this morning.
Two workers came out of the Capitol building about 8:20 a.m. and with no fanfare quickly and quietly took the flag down. They declined to answer questions.
Moments later Gov. Bentley emerged from the Capitol on his way to an appearance in Hackleburg. Asked if he had ordered the flag taken down, the governor said, "Yes I did."
Asked his reasons for taking it down and if it included what happened in Charleston last week, the governor said, "Yes, partially this is about that. This is the right thing to do. We are facing some major issues in this state regarding the budget and other matters that we need to deal with. This had the potential to become a major distraction as we go forward. I have taxes to raise, we have work to do. And it was my decision that the flag needed to come down."

Leaked Freddie Gray Autopsy Report Raises New Questions
There's a new bombshell in the criminal case that sparked riots in the city of Baltimore and protests across the country.
Megyn Kelly said the details of Freddie Gray's autopsy report were leaked today by The Baltimore Sun. In it, a medical examiner found that Gray suffered a "high-energy injury" while riding in a Baltimore police van.
Kelly also noted that the medical examiner concluded that Gray's death was a "medical and legal accident and only ruled a homicide because she was told the police failed to belt Gray into the van."

Autopsy of Freddie Gray shows 'high-energy' impact
The state medical examiner's office concluded that Gray's death could not be ruled an accident, and was instead a homicide, because officers failed to follow safety procedures "through acts of omission."
Though Gray was loaded into the van on his belly, the medical examiner surmised that he may have gotten to his feet and was thrown into the wall during an abrupt change in direction. He was not belted in, but his wrists and ankles were shackled, putting him "at risk for an unsupported fall during acceleration or deceleration of the van."

O'Malley Speaks Out About Gun Control, the Confederate Flag and 'White Racism'
Speaking at the U.S. Conference of Mayors, former Maryland Governor and Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley called for tougher gun control reforms and for the Confederate flag to be retired.
"We come together in a sad week in the life of our country, don't we," said O'Malley, a candidate for President. "Another senseless gun massacre in America. "Newtown, Aurora, Washington Naval Yard, and now Charleston. The entire world must think us mad, sending trillions to Afghanistan and Iraq while the casualties pile up here in our own cities and towns".
He talked about recently visiting Mother Emmanuel Church in Charleston and meeting with its pastor, the late Senator Pinckney, other church leaders and community leaders.

Thug Launches Multiple Punches at Pair of Surrounded NYPD Officers While Crowd Hoots and Hollers in the Street
A cellphone video posted on Facebook Saturday apparently shows two New York City police officers surrounded by four people in the middle of a street and then assaulted as onlookers hoot and holler.
The pair of officers, apparently a man and woman, seem to have been attempting to detain or arrest a woman while two men and another woman intervene.
One of the intervening men dressed in a white shirt with stripes was seen throwing at least four punches at the officers during the 36-second clip.

A Viewer Writes:
It is my understanding that this man's great grand father and grand father, along with many uncles fought in the Civil War. They fought for the Confederacy and did so freely and proudly. This leads to the question....
Is it hate? Or is it heritage? I think we now know the answer.

‘BLACK LIVES MATTER’ PROTESTERS VANDALIZE CONFEDERATE STATUE IN CHARLESTON
An 83-year-old monument to the Confederate soldiers who came to the defense of Charleston during the Civil War was defaced by “Black Lives Matter” protesters sometime late on Saturday evening.
The spray-painted graffiti was discovered early on Sunday morning on a monument titled “Confederate Defenders of Charleston” just as citizens gathered downtown to honor the victims murdered at the Emanuel AME Church by a gun-wielding 21-year-old last Wednesday.
As ABC 4 News in Charleston reported, “The words ‘Black Lives Matter’ and ‘This is the problem #racist’ is spray painted on the base. The vandals also called out Mayor Joe Riley and Governor Nikki Haley scrawling ‘Riley and Haley -Why defend this evil -This the root of our evil.'”
