HOLDER: DIAL 911, WAIT ON POLICE DURING MASS SHOOTINGS

In remarks for a law enforcement conference in Philadelphia, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder says unarmed citizens victimized in mass shootings should count on local police instead of specially trained units to arrive on scene.

According to the AP, "the attorney general says authorities don't always have the luxury of time to get their most highly trained officers on the scene." He said this also means local police should get special training and preparation for what they might face should a mass shooting take place in their area.

‘Duck Dynasty’ Star: ‘It Ain’t Gun Control We Need, It’s Sin Control’

One “Duck Dynasty” star made his stance on gun control known in an interview with Men’s Journal.

“It ain’t gun control we need, it’s sin control,” Si Robertson said.

In a wide-ranging interview with Men’s Journal, the man known as Uncle Si described how he used to be a “sinner” during his younger days when he was drafted into the Army and heading off to Vietnam.

“I kept a fifth of whiskey in my pocket everywhere I went,” he said. “I tried dope one time, okay, like marijuana, but why would you smoke something that makes you feel 100 years old? So, drugs wasn’t it for me. In my mind, it was alcohol and whoring around.”

O'Malley Raised Unemployment Insurance Tax To Highest In The Nation

Last week Governor O'Malley boasted about the lower unemployment taxes Maryland businesses will see next year. He claimed the lower rates are a sign of the "progress" of Maryland's economic recovery under the O'Malley-Brown administration.

"What recovery is he talking about?" said business leader and Change Maryland Chairman Larry Hogan. "There are 6,500 fewer small businesses, unemployment has doubled, and 120,000 additional people are unemployed since O'Malley took office. This is just another chapter in Martin O'Malley's book of fairy tales," Hogan said.

Due to the recession, unemployment claims all but depleted Maryland's Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund, going from a high of $680 million in 2009 to a low of $50 million in 2010. Governor O'Malley cajoled and bullied business groups, who initially opposed his plan to replenish the unemployment trust fund.

However, O'Malley's plan included taking $127 million in federal funds with all sorts of policy strings attached, which saddled Maryland businesses with even more tax and regulatory burdens

Under O'Malley's plan state businesses saw their unemployment insurance taxes triple to the highest in the nation.

The state also borrowed $250 million from the federal government to meet unemployment insurance benefit claims.

In the year after O'Malley's "fix," a legislative audit found that his Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation paid $150 million in unemployment insurance claims to people were working, dead, or in prison.

"Martin O'Malley will never tell you the whole story," Hogan said. "The fact is, that it was the O'Malley-Brown administration that foisted these high tax rates on Maryland businesses in the first place. Over-charging and gouging businesses for years during the recession caused us to now have a surplus, it had nothing to do with any imaginary recovery,” Hogan continued. “O'Malley cares more about the unemployment insurance fund than he did about addressing unemployment."

Change Maryland has documented the O'Malley-Brown administration's 40 tax and fee increases, which had removed $9.5 billion annually from Maryland's economy. They include raising the corporate income tax from 7 percent to 8.25 percent and multiple personal income tax rate hikes, which affects many of Maryland's small businesses.

According to the non-partisan Tax Foundation, Maryland pass through entities—businesses that pay the personal income tax rate—face the seventh highest marginal tax rates in the nation. The Tax Foundation cited Maryland's high unemployment tax rate as one reason they ranked the state 41st its Business Tax Climate Index.

Change Maryland is the state's largest and fastest growing grass roots movement and has swelled to over 60,000 members. Change Maryland is the leading voice of independent, non-partisan opposition to the O'Malley-Brown power structure, focusing on economic and fiscal reform.

In 2013, Change Maryland brought together federal, state, and local government officials, think tanks, economists and over 400 business leaders from across the state for a summit on improving Maryland's economic competitiveness, in order to identify comprehensive solutions to the state's serious economic problems. The group also produced numerous economic studies which have shown the impact of the 40 consecutive O'Malley-Brown tax increases on Maryland's economy: a mass exodus of businesses, jobs and taxpayers fleeing the state at an alarming rate and taking billions out of our economy.

Larry Hogan has been active in the Maryland business community for over 25 years. He is the founder and President of the Hogan Companies, leaders in economic development, who have brought hundreds of companies and thousands of jobs to Maryland. He took a hiatus from the private sector to serve as a Cabinet Secretary in the Ehrlich Administration. He has led citizen referendums to limit taxes and to reform government and spent decades working to change Maryland for the better.

NEWS GETS EVEN WORSE FOR SCOUT LEADER ACCUSED OF PUSHING OVER JURASSIC-ERA ROCK FORMATION

The situation seems to have gotten worse for the Boy Scout leader who pushed over a large, ancient rock formation in a state park, evidence of which was filmed in a now-viral video.

Amid speculation that those involved could face felony charges, the man who actually knocked over the “goblin,” or hoodoo rock formation, in Utah’s Goblin Valley State Park is now facing additional scrutiny because he was supposedly disabled in a car accident.

KTVX-TV reported that Glenn Taylor is currently suing Alan MacDonald for injuries suffered and medical expenses after a car accident four years ago.

The angry note left on Matt Milstead’s BMW, which was parked in a handicapped spot, two weeks ago got at least one thing right — but that’s it.

See, the anonymous note-leaver was right that Milstead is a professional. He was even close on Milstead’s age — he’s 36. But Milstead was parked in the handicapped spot at a Grand Rapids, Mich., YMCA on October 9 for a good reason: he was playing wheelchair rugby, according to WOOD-TV.

Deaf Advocates Suing University of Maryland Have Had Success with Other Institutions

A lawsuit filed in September by the National Association of the Deaf against the University of Maryland for its lack of amenities for deaf fans at sporting events is just one of many such efforts to ensure hearing-impaired sports enthusiasts can enjoy themselves at stadiums.

Association CEO Howard A. Rosenblum said his organization has successfully sued other athletic organizations over the same issue, including the Washington Redskins, Ohio State University and the University of Kentucky.

The association successfully sued the Washington Redskins in 2011. According to lawsuit documents, the Redskins were required to “provide deaf and hard of hearing fans equal access to the aural information broadcast over the stadium bowl public address system at FedEx Field.”

Interesting Take!!!

I have worked in the government on and off for 38 years. During that time I became quite familiar with requisitions, bidding, awarding contracts etc. It is a time consuming process with bean-counters and pencil-necked bureaucrats every step of the way. The simplest request takes months not days or hours.

In less than 8 hours of the shutdown, "miraculously", professionally printed, 3X4 foot signs appeared all over the country in the tens of thousands saying- “this [park, facility, etc. with custom logos and current dates] closed due to government shutdown.
There has not been a government shutdown in 17 years. These signs were designed, specifications were determined, signs were then requisitioned, bids were posted and vetted, government contracts were awarded. The materials were then ordered and the signs manufactured then distributed through U.S. Mails or freight companies.

This shutdown was orchestrated, and planned well in advance, at least 6-8 month ago.

Millions of tax dollars were appropriated and spent in this process. There is a paper trail a mile long leading directly to the White House.

Existing Home Sales Plunge At Fastest Pace In 15 Month As Affordability Drops To 5 Year Low

Thanks to a considerable downward revision of the magical NAR numbers, the existing home sales MoM 'beat' expectations for September but the two-month average shows the largest drop in sales since June 2012. From the "cylical peak" in July, of course extrapolated by any and all apologists as confirming the voyage to the moon, it seems, just as we noted, that "affordability" - long shunned by the bulls (because, like you know, interest rates are still low compare to the 1970s...) - has collapsed to five-year lows; worse, in fact, than we expected [3]. With 33% of all transactions cash, it is little surprise that affordability has fallen to a five-year low as home price increases easily outpaced income growth.

Snowden Journalist’s New Venture To Be Bankrolled By eBay Founder

For years, the tech billionaire Pierre M. Omidyar has been experimenting with ways to promote serious journalism, searching for the proper media platform to support with the fortune he earned as the founder of eBay. He has made grants to independent media outlets in Africa and government watchdog groups in the United States. In a more direct effort, he created a news Web site in Hawaii, his home state.

Then last summer, The Washington Post came calling in its pursuit of a buyer. The Graham family ended up selling The Post to a different tech billionaire, Jeffrey P. Bezos of Amazon. But the experience, Mr. Omidyar wrote on his blog on Wednesday, “got me thinking about what kind of social impact could be created if a similar investment was made in something entirely new, built from the ground up.”

Mr. Omidyar also confirmed that he would be personally financing just such a new “mass media” venture, where he will be joined by the journalist Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian, the British daily. Mr. Greenwald gained notoriety this summer when he reported on the revelations about National Security Agency surveillance contained in papers leaked by Edward J. Snowden.

PETA obtained the documents earlier this year through a Freedom of Information Act request and provided them to The Virginian-Pilot after the newspaper requested them, the newspaper reported Sunday.

Ocean City Police Department PFC Michael A. Levy To Unexpectedly Retire

I will be exercising my option to retire from active police service with the Ocean City Police Department effective October 31, 2013, which is ahead of my mandatory retirement of June 1, 2014.

I have accepted a teaching position with the Worcester County Board of Education which is to begin November 4, 2013. I will be taking over the “protective services” program at Worcester Technical High School replacing retiring Mr. William Gordy (Ret/MSP Sergeant) who has been educating students in this program for over seventeen years. I wish to continue the important work of teaching and mentoring high school students toward careers in the law enforcement and criminal justice career fields. Several agencies including the OCPD have full-time police officers as a result of their participation in this program. I am confident that my experiences as a civilian and military law enforcement officer and trainer will help continue to promote future law enforcement careers.

Due to the rapid nature of my retirement, I realize that this creates certain transition issues for the department. Therefore to facilitate a smooth transition for a new Public Affairs Officer, I will remain on staff as a part-time OCPD reserve officer for an unspecified period of time. All OCPD media and public information inquiries are to be directed to the OCPD Public Affairs Specialist Lindsay O'Neal: Office: 410-520-5395 or email: loneal@oceancitymd.gov.

Washington's Open Secret: Profitable PACs

The government shutdown that finally ended on Wednesday night furloughed 800,000 government workers for the better part of two weeks, but there was one group of federal employees that was able to maintain the lifestyle that many of them have grown accustomed to: members of Congress.

With all the talk about their irreconcilable political differences, we wanted to see if they shared any common ground. And we found some. For example, there seems to be a permanent majority in Congress that's completely satisfied with the current state of campaign financing and congressional ethics and members of both parties have institutionalized ways to skirt the rules.

Most Americans believe it's against the law for congressmen and senators to profit personally from their political office but it's an open secret in Washington that that's not the case. As the saying goes the real scandal in Washington isn't what's illegal, it's what is legal.

Mexico Condemns Reported US Spying On President

Mexico's government said Sunday it "categorically condemns" email spying, after a German news magazine reported that documents from National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden say the U.S. gained access to the email system of former Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

A report posted by Der Spiegel said the documents describe an operation dubbed "Flat liquid" that claim to have accessed Mexico's "presidencia" domain, which was also purportedly used by members of Calderon's Cabinet.

"This practice is unacceptable, illegitimate and contrary to Mexican law and international law," Mexico's Foreign Relations Department said in a statement.

As College Student, Eric Holder Participated In ‘Armed’ Takeover Of Former Columbia University ROTC Office

As a freshman at Columbia University in 1970, future Attorney General Eric Holder participated in a five-day occupation of an abandoned Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) headquarters with a group of black students later described by the university’s Black Students’ Organization as “armed,” The Daily Caller has learned.

Department of Justice spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler has not responded to questions from The Daily Caller about whether Holder himself was armed — and if so, with what sort of weapon.

Holder was then among the leaders of the Student Afro-American Society (SAAS), which demanded that the former ROTC office be renamed the “Malcolm X Lounge.” The change, the group insisted, was to be made “in honor of a man who recognized the importance of territory as a basis for nationhood.”

The Threat We Face

Below is a speech given by David Horowitz at the Kohler conference of the Bradley Foundation. It has been revised and edited for publication as an article.

I was born at the beginning of the Second World War into a family of high school teachers who were members of the Communist Party, and therefore were actually part of a vast conspiracy dedicated to the destruction of this country, although they would never have looked at it that way, and so-called liberals would be the first to deny it.

In those days, the schools were old fashioned enough that my parents did not use their classrooms to indoctrinate students as tens of thousands of university professors and even more K-12 teachers regularly do today. It is also an unhappy but hugely important fact that the conspiracy to which my parents belonged has steadily migrated into the heart of the Democratic Party until it now occupies the Oval Office in the person of our president, Barack Obama, and his closest advisors.

The president, his chief operative Valerie Jarrett and his chief political strategist David Axelrod all came out of the same Communist left and the same radical new left as I did, and all have remained heart and soul a part of it. As someone who turned his back on that destructive movement, I can say with confidence that they have not. If a person belongs to an organization or is the supporter of an idea that they come to see as destructive or evil, the first thing they will want to do when they leave is to warn others against it, to warn them of the dangers it represents. If a person does not do this – that tells me that he or she hasn’t left the destructive movement or abandoned the pernicious idea but has just put another face on them. Instead of calling themselves communists or socialists they call themselves liberals and progressives. This camouflage is very old. I never once heard my parents and their party friends refer to themselves as Communists. They were progressives – and registered Democrats.

‘Best And Brightest’ Will Be Brought In To Fix Obamacare Website Bugs

The Obama administration said Sunday that it is calling in the “best and brightest” technicians to help fix the bug-laden federal website that has tarnished the rollout of the new health care law and galvanized the overhaul’s fiercest critics in Congress.

In a blog post, the Department of Health and Human Services struck a contrite tone after boasting that the site, which is supposed to help people in 36 states sign up for private coverage, has received 19 million unique visits since its debut on Oct. 1.

“Unfortunately, the experience on HealthCare.gov has been frustrating for many Americans,” the agency said. “Some have had trouble creating accounts and logging in to the site, while others have received confusing error messages, or had to wait for slow page loads or forms that failed to respond in a timely fashion. The initial consumer experience of HealthCare.gov has not lived up to the expectations of the American people. We are committed to doing better.”

STUDY: AMERICANS IN ALL 50 STATES MORE CONSERVATIVE SINCE 1964

According to Cornell political scientist Peter Enns, conservatives are beginning to break through across the country. Based on “measures of policy mood for eac state from the 1950s to 2010,” Enns and his colleague Julianna Koch found that there has been a conservative opinion shift in every single state across the country. Most of the increases were “statistically significant”; the same held true for regions.

Between 1964 and 2010, America shifted heavily when asked whether every person should be provided a job by the government, or whether government should allow everyone to get ahead individually. Asked whether Washington was becoming too powerful, the country has again shifted dramatically.

The charges against the six included simple assault and reckless endangerment. An additional charge of aggravated assault was lodged against Jermaine Richardson, 18, who allegedly injured the teacher and who was the only one charged as an adult.

Lt. Gov. Dewhurst Says President Obama Should Be Impeached

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 NEWS) – A surprising statement from one of Texas’ top leaders: President Obama should be impeached. This came from Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, who is running for re-election and appeared at a Tea Party candidates forum.

Dewhurst warned that freedoms are being trampled on, and so the President should be impeached. Later he fleshed out his thoughts for the Texas Observer’s Christopher Hooks. “I think this President, Barack Obama, has disregarded federal law. He has tried to do things which are not authorized under federal law. Things he’s disregarded such as immigration. He’s not, not following our federal drug laws. And he has created winners and losers in Obamacare where he has no authority,” according to Dewhurst, who pointed out the extensions given to unions and big businesses.

And then Dewhurst criticized alleged inaction. “I am very concerned about Benghazi, in which all of the national news reporting indicated that live video was streaming into the White House situation room. Which means there was a(n) overhead platform, probably a drone in the area. At least that’s what it tells me. And for not mobilizing some response to protect the ambassador and those three Americans is just outrageous to me. Just outrageous.”

How Congress Just Stuck It To Monsanto

Other than reopening the government and averting a global financial crisis, one good thing about the funding bill passed last night was that it put an end to a corporate giveaway known colloquially as the Monsanto Protection Act.

Formally called the Farmer Assurance Provision, the measure undermined the Department of Agriculture’s authority to ban genetically modified crops, even if court rulings found they posed risks to human and environmental health. Republican Senator Roy Blunt worked with the genetically modified seed giant Monsanto to craft the initial rider, and it was slipped into a funding resolution that passed in March. There was concern that an agreement to end the shutdown would extend the provision, which is set to expire at the end of the month.

Jon Tester, a farmer and Democratic senator from Montana, removed the measure from the bill yesterday. “All [the Farmer Assurance Provision] really assures is a lack of corporate liability,” Tester argued in March. “It…lets genetically modified crops take hold across the country—even when a judge finds it violates the law.”

Tea Party Determined, Not Chastened, After Loss

Far from chastened by the debt debate, tea partyers and conservative groups signaled Thursday they’ve concluded they didn’t lose, but rather were sabotaged from within by weak Republicans — and they took the first steps to oust one of them.

Mississippi state Sen. Chris McDaniel announced he would challenge U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran in the Republican primary next year, a day after the GOP’s senior senator voted to end the 16-day government shutdown and grant President Obama more borrowing authority.

Mr. McDaniel immediately saw a flood of support from the outside groups that had rallied against this week’s debt and spending agreement.

“Our country can’t afford any more bad votes that stem from old friends and back-room deals,” said Daniel Horowitz, deputy political director of the Madison Project. “And as witnessed from the recent budget battle against Obamacare, we cannot win against Democrats if we don’t grow our conservative bench in the Senate.”

For the past two weeks, the deep divisions within the GOP have been on very public display.

Barack Obama, Angry Young Man

People reveal themselves. Anyone who speaks to others long enough eventually exposes aspects of their nature they don’t want on display.

You’ve probably, if you’ve read this blog regularly, found out something about me that you don’t really like. Perhaps something even I don’t like about myself.

Politicians reveal themselves too.

President Obama, beneath his controlled surface, has within him a profound reservoir of anger. It comes out in all kinds of ways, often in the contempt in which he holds others. I don’t know, perhaps I’d be angry too if I grew up in his circumstances. But angry he is.

Wednesday, during remarks in which he attested his eagerness to work with others, Obama inadvertently demonstrated why it never really happens. It’s because it’s really hard to work with people you detest.
And now that the government is reopened, and this threat to our economy is removed, all of us need to stop focusing on the lobbyists and the bloggers and the talking heads on radio and the professional activists who profit from conflict, and focus on what the majority of Americans sent us here to do, and that’s grow this economy . . .

First of all, DON’T LISTEN TO HIM!! Please do focus on the bloggers .

Monsanto Hires Former Sen. Blanche Lincoln As Lobbyist

Politico Influence reported Wednesday afternoon that the agricultural giant Monsanto, the telecom titan Comcast and oil refiner Valero have all signed on as clients of the Lincoln Policy Group. Lincoln, a Democrat from Arkansas who left the Senate in 2011 after losing her reelection bid, announced in July that she waslaunching her own lobbying group.

Lincoln served as the chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry from September 2009 to January 2011. Lawsuit: Obamacare Violates Constitution's Origination Clause

The tax levied on Americans who don't buy health insurance under the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional because it started in the wrong house of Congress in violation of the Constitution's Origination Clause, say arguments in a case on appeal before the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.

"The Supreme Court … said the Obamacare tax is not an enforcement penalty," Pacific Legal Foundation attorney Tim Sandefur told Newsmax. "They said this is actually a revenue-raising tax, in which case the Origination Clause does apply."

After the Supreme Court decision last year upholding Obamacare changed the definition of the levy, the foundation's attorneys amended their filing in the case, saying there was a constitutional flaw from the healthcare law's inception because the bill's language originated in the Senate, not the House.

"There is very little legal precedent on this matter," Sandefur said about the case, which could wind its way up to the Supreme Court.

Pittsville Town Meeting TONIGHT

Joe will please place a notice on your blog concerning the town meeting Monday, October 21, 2013 @7:30 at the town hall.

Question to ask

Who is the town hiring to do the internal audit and how much is it going to cost the tax payers?

What are the intentions of the town council when they find out how much has been stolen from the residents and taxpayers of the town?

Who was benefiting from the ill gotten gains and who knew what was going on but turned a blind eye? Would that be the council members who were signing the checks?

How is Wayne Knapp qualified to run for town council when he list his residence as Worcester County, Ocean City MD on his facebook account and list another address on the liquor license for the Heros Grill in Salisbury? Where does he really live?

Why is the town spending so much money on the old Lions Club Building and receiving no income from it?

The election for the town will held in November 2013. Is the town ready and are the resident aware?
