President Barack Obama will make a fundraising trip to Miami on Wednesday at the expense of hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars.
As the Miami Herald notes, federal taxpayers pay about $180,000 per flight hour for Obama to take Air Force One, while local taxpayers are forced to pay for much of the costs dealing with security.
Miami police spokesman Robert Hernandez told the Herald that they are "NOT reimbursed for this expenditure" and "estimated the cost of presidential visit security at $10,000 to $55,000."

Woman Killed In Delmar Crash
Location: Pepperbox Road, east of Brittingham Road, Delmar, DE
Date and Time of Occurrence: Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 6:32 p.m.
Vehicle and Occupants:
Operator: Lisa A. Hicks, 45, of Delmar, DE (properly restrained, admitted to Christiana Hospital in critical condition)
Vehicle: 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt
Passenger: Mindy L. Hicks, 27, of Delmar, DE (properly restrained, deceased)
Passenger: Ernest R. Doney, 32, of Delmar, DE (not properly restrained, admitted to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in serious condition)
Resume:
Delmar - A crash yesterday evening left one Delmar resident dead and two Delmar residents injured.
The crash happened at 6:32 p.m. as Lisa A. Hicks, 45, drove a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt in the westbound lane of Pepperbox Road. As the vehicle approached Brittingham Road, it failed to negotiate the roadway's curve to the right, and exited the south edge of the roadway.
The vehicle briefly traveled westward in a drainage ditch along the south side of Pepperbox Road before striking a driveway culvert. This impact catapulted the vehicle, causing it to overturn several times before coming to rest, upright, in the intersection of Pepperbox and Brittingham Roads.
Lisa A. Hicks, who was properly restrained, was flown to Christiana Hospital where she was admitted in Critical Condition. Mindy L. Hicks, 27, who was the front seat passenger in the vehicle, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation suggests that she was properly restrained at the time of the crash. The rear passenger, Ernest R. Doney, 32, was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle, landing in a grassy area. He was transported by ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, where he was admitted in serious condition.
Pepperbox Road was closed for approximately three hours as Troopers investigated and cleared this crash. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation.

Father's Day: Why Fathering Should Be Valued And Encouraged
Language is a good indicator of what a culture values. The dictionary definition of mothering is “the nurturing of an infant or small child by its mother.” Parenting means “the rearing of children.” Fathering means “a male parent.”
Mothering is highly valued and appreciated in our culture; when people are sick or sad, they want to be mothered. The value of parenting is likewise recognized, as any number of books, blogs, and classes on the topic will attest. Fathering, however, is generally used only to signify the man who supplies genetic material.
If mothers stopped mothering in mass, we would recognize it as an extraordinary problem requiring immediate rectifying. Yet one in three children live in homes without fathers. Rather than trying to aggressively change that statistic, the bulk of our energy is devoted to ameliorating, not reversing, damage.
Superman: Flying To A Church Near You
Baltimore, Maryland (CNN) - As the new Superman movie takes flight this weekend, filmmakers are hoping the Man of Steel lands not only in theaters, but also in pulpits.
Warner Bros. Studios is aggressively marketing "Man of Steel" to Christian pastors, inviting them to early screenings, creating Father’s Day discussion guides and producing special film trailers that focus on the faith-friendly angles of the movie.
The movie studio even asked a theologian to provide sermon notes for pastors who want to preach about Superman on Sunday. Titled “Jesus: The Original Superhero,” the notes run nine pages.

Obama ‘Strongly Objects’ To Religious Liberty Amendment
The Obama Administration “strongly objects” to a proposed amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act on Wednesday that would have protected the religious rights of soldiers – including evangelical Christian service members who are facing growing hostility towards their religion.
The amendment was authored by Rep. John Fleming, R-La. It would have “required the Armed Forces to accommodate ‘actions and speech’ reflecting the conscience, moral, principles or religious beliefs of the member.”
The Obama Administration said the amendment would have a “significant adverse effect on good order, discipline, morale, and mission accomplishment.”
“With its statement, the White House is now endorsing military reprimands of members who keep a Bible on their desk or express a religious belief,” Fleming told Fox News. “This administration is aggressively hostile towards religious beliefs that it deems to be politically incorrect.”
Fleming introduced the amendment after a series of high-profile incidents involving attacks on religious liberty within the military- including an Air Force officer who was told to remove a Bible from his desk because it might give the impression he was endorsing a religion.
He said there are other reports of Christian service members and chaplains being punished for their faith.

OC Business Group Asks For Aid With International Students
Out of concern that businesses might not be able to find enough employees in future summers, the Ocean City Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association is asking Sen. Barbara Mikulski for help.
In a letter written to Mikulski last week, Susan Jones, the association’s executive director, asked her to support an exemption in the Senate Immigration Bill that would ensure international students could continue to come to Ocean City and elsewhere in the United States for short-term employment.
“There are a few provisions that could greatly harm, and possibly end, the State Department’s Exchange Visitor Program (EVP). These changes would seriously alter the Summer Work Travel J1 Visa program which Ocean City businesses rely on for employees,” Jones wrote. “Last summer, there were close to 4,000 J1-Visa participants in Ocean City. Due to the school calendars, these students are able to arrive in May and stay through September. Without J1 participants, many businesses would not be able to operate at full capacity, resulting in lost tax revenue.”

Caterpillar Drops Boy Scouts Support Over Gay Ban
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Caterpillar Inc. is no longer giving money to the Boy Scouts because the organization discriminates against homosexuals, a spokeswoman for the Illinois-based heavy equipment manufacturer confirmed Thursday.
The company's move wasn't directly tied to the recent Boy Scouts decision to continue to bar homosexual adults from roles within the organization while allowing openly gay children to be scouts. Instead, spokeswoman Rachel Potts said, the company decided to cut off funding while reviewing a request for $25,000 that came in last year from a local group in Illinois.
That decision was never announced publicly or communicated to the Boy Scouts of America, only to the local group, she said. But she added that the Boy Scouts' policy that continues to bar homosexual adults from working in the organization is "discriminatory."

A Letter To The Editor: "Six Months Ago Today"
Joe --
My mom, Dawn Hochsprung, was the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
Six months ago today, she was shot and killed in her school, along with five of her coworkers and 20 of her students.
In the weeks and months after that horrible day, lawmakers from across the country told us, the families of the victims, that they'd take action to make our communities safer. What we found out is that, for some of our members of Congress, those were empty promises.
And in those six months, thousands more people have been killed by guns.
I've been doing everything I can to reach out to members of Congress. But my voice isn't enough. Today, on the six-month anniversary of Newtown, every single person who cares about reducing gun violence in America needs to recommit to this fight.
More than 1.4 million Americans have said they're with us in the fight to reduce gun violence -- add your name today.
In her last minutes, Mom was just as brave and caring as I knew her to be. After telling everyone to hide, she went running into the hallway, saw the gunman, yelled and lunged at him in an effort to protect the school she loved.
I miss her every second of every day. I'm getting married in just a few weeks -- to a guy she was rooting for, in a dress we picked out together -- but because a dangerous man got his hands on a gun, my mom won't be there to see it.
I'm still grieving -- and I'm not alone. On average, 33 Americans are killed by a gun every single day. That's 33 new families a day who mourn like I do.
If a background check saves even one life, and keeps even one family from hurting like this, then this fight will all be worth it. I think my mom would like to know that the tragedy that fell on Newtown meant that another tragedy could be stopped before it even started.
I'm asking you to join me today, six months after that horrible day, to keep this fight going -- take action for my mom, Dawn, and the 25 other people who we lost in December.

ZIMMERMAN BROTHER: 'I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF JURORS'
On Wednesday afternoon, Robert Zimmerman, brother of George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer now on trial for the death of Trayvon Martin, spoke exclusively to Breitbart News about jury selection. “I am very concerned about the safety of jurors,” he said.
“I know the nature of the media and the media will naturally do everything they can to reveal the identity of jurors. As a person who has been living in hiding for over a year, as a non-lawyer, I am worried jurors might feel pressured to convict on a ‘lesser included’ offense,” he continued.

Beach Town Cracks Down: Wildwood, N.J., Bans Saggy Pants
WILDWOOD, N.J. - Mayor Ernest Troiano Jr. thinks he’s found a way to put one of this Jersey shore resort town’s problems behind it. Wildwood is ready to ban overly saggy pants, no ifs, ands or butts.
The city is set to pass a law Wednesday regulating how people dress on its boardwalk. It bans going shirtless, as well as walking on the boardwalk with bare feet.
But the provision that has gained widespread attention is a prohibition on pants that sag more than 3 inches below the hips, exposing either skin or underwear. Troiano said Wildwood has been inundated with complaints from tourists upon whose money the popular beach town depends for its survival.

George W. Bush Back In Favor? His Ratings Make A Surprising Jump
More Americans now view Goerge W. Bush favorably than unfavorably, according to a Gallup poll. It's typical for ex-presidents to see their ratings rise, but Mr. Bush's jump is significant.
Former president George W. Bush’s popularity is ticking up. For the first time since 2005, Americans’ opinions of him are more positive than negative.
A Gallup poll released Wednesday found 49 percent of Americans view him favorably and 46 percent unfavorably.
Mr. Bush has chosen to remain largely out of the public eye since leaving the White House. He told CNN last year that “Eight years was awesome, and I was famous and I was powerful but I have no desire for fame and power any more.”

Police Locate Suspects of Armed Robbery
On June 10, 2013, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Ocean City Police responded to 12thStreet for a report of an armed robbery. The victims, who are not being identified, advised police that they were walking along 12th Street and came in contact with a group of four males who robbed the victims at gunpoint.
Police broadcast a description of the suspects and their vehicle and were able to stop the suspect’s vehicle on 12th Street a short time after the initial lookout. The vehicle was occupied by four males, who were all detained until the victims were brought to the stop.
The victims positively identified the suspects as the persons who had committed the armed robbery. Police identified the perpetrators as; Dominique LA Paul Pratt, 20, of Waldorf, MD, Derrell Levon Prince, 19, of Waldorf, MD, and John Riley, 23, of Washington, DC. The investigation revealed that the fourth suspect, who was identified as Darien Xavier, Britton, 18, of Waldorf, MD, acted as the group’s driver.
Police recovered the victims stolen property, which consisted of two wallets that contained approximately $500, and two IPhones, from the suspects’ vehicle. Officers also located a handgun that was believed to be used during the robbery. A check of the handguns by serial number revealed the gun was reported stolen in Charlotte, NC.
All of the suspects were seen by an Ocean City District Court Commissioner and are being held of $500,000 bond. The suspects have been transferred to the Worcester County Jail.

REPORT: HOMESCHOOLING GROWING SEVEN TIMES FASTER THAN PUBLIC SCHOOL ENROLLMENT
As dissatisfaction with the U.S. public school system grows, apparently so has the appeal of homeschooling. Educational researchers, in fact, are expecting a surge in the number of students educated at home by their parents over the next ten years, as more parents reject public schools.
A recent report in Education News states that, since 1999, the number of children who are homeschooled has increased by 75%. Though homeschooled children represent only 4% of all school-age children nationwide, the number of children whose parents choose to educate them at home rather than a traditional academic setting is growing seven times faster than the number of children enrolling in grades K-12 every year.
As homeschooling has become increasingly popular, common myths that have long been associated with the practice of homeschooling have been debunked.

As homeschooling has become increasingly popular, common myths that have long been associated with the practice of homeschooling have been debunked.

Off-Duty Cops Collect DNA Samples At Alabama Roadblocks
Off-duty cops in two counties in Alabama spent the weekend collecting saliva and blood samples from drivers at roadblocks.
According to Lt. Freddie Turrentine with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, drivers were asked to voluntarily offer samples of their saliva and blood for a study being conducted by the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation.
The drivers were compensated for their samples.

Won't Hire Convicted Criminals? Uncle Sam Might Have A Problem With That
If you've got a policy against hiring anyone with a criminal record, you better review guidelines issued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The EEOC today filed lawsuits against BMW's manufacturing plant in Spartanburg, S.C., and Dollar General, which is based in Goodlettsville, Tenn. The agency contends the companies' policies against hiring people who have been convicted of a crime violate the Civil Rights Act because they disproportionately cost African-Americans jobs.
Several employees who had worked at BMW's plant for years as employees of a logistics services company lost their jobs as a result of BMW's policy. Their employer, UTi Integrated Logistics, only reviewed criminal convictions for the previous seven years. But when UTi ended its contract with BMW, its employees at the facility had to re-apply for their jobs with a new contractor. BMW ordered the new contractor to follow its criminal background policy, which has no time limit as far as criminal convictions. Several employees failed this test, and were denied jobs as a result.

Receivership Allows City To Move Forward On First Blighted Property
1110 North Division Street
The property is owned by Donna Joseph. The home is vacant and in danger of falling into disrepair. On October 25, 2011, NSCC issued a notice to Ms. Joseph to repair broken windows. That order was not satisfied and a citation was ultimately issued. The citation was not paid and was forwarded to District Court for a hearing. After three (3) unsuccessful attempts at summons service, NSCC successfully submitted an affidavit of judgment to Judge Wade, which resulted in a guilty finding, with fines doubled in the amount of $200 plus court costs.
NSCC ultimately boarded up the broken windows to secure the structure. NSCC also has the following violations open on this structure: Condemnation order due to fire damage (citations issued for failing to make repairs from fire damage, currently attempting summons service); Failing to provide a vacant building registration (citations issued, holding for a court date); Failing to provide a rehab plan (citations issued, holding for a court date); Peeling paint (citations issued, holding for a court date); In addition, NSCC has had to hire third party contractors to cut the grass and remove rubbish since April 2011.
Currently, the amount owed to the City of Salisbury on this property is $9, 519.12. At last check the structure has not been sold at tax sale. Tom Stevenson, Director of Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance (NSCC) said, “Considering this is a new endeavor, the first few petitions will naturally be somewhat cumbersome.” Stevenson has decided that 1110 N. Division Street is best candidate to “test the waters.” Along with five remaining properties, NSCC will continue to vet additional properties from the original inventory for the program.
OBAMA ADMIN CONSIDERING RESETTLING SYRIAN REFUGEES IN U.S. AND THESE ARE THE STATES WHERE THEY MAY GO
The Obama administration is considering resettling some refugees who have escaped war-torn Syria in the United States, a development first reported by the Los Angeles Times on Sunday and later confirmed by the State Department.
According to the Times, the resettlement of the refugees would be “part of an international effort that could bring thousands of Syrians to American cities and towns.”
The Times reports [emphasis added]:A resettlement plan under discussion in Washington and other capitals is aimed at relieving pressure on Middle Eastern countries straining to support 1.6 million refugees, as well as assisting hard-hit Syrian families.
The State Department is “ready to consider the idea,” an official from the department said, if the administration receives a formal request from the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, which is the usual procedure.
The United States usually accepts about half the refugees that the U.N. agency proposes for resettlement. California has historically taken the largest share, but Illinois, Florida,Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia are also popular destinations.

Cummings: Unnamed ‘Conservative Republican’ Behind IRS Abuse
Rep. Elijah Cummings has yet to reveal the name of the “conservative Republican” IRS agent he claims started the agency’s improper targeting of conservative groups, despite evidence that the targeting was overseen by a registered Democrat working out of Washington, D.C.
Cummings, a Democrat from Maryland and the top Democrat on the House oversight committee, claimed this week that an unnamed Republican manager in the IRS’s Cincinnati office started the agency’s targeting of conservative groups, and that “the case is solved” with no evidence of White House wrongdoing.
Cummings claimed in a letter to Republican Oversight Committee chairman Darrell Issa, dated June 9, that his staff had interviewed a “conservative Republican” manager from the IRS’ Cincinnati office who took the blame for the improper targeting.

Delmar DE. Mayor Walks Out OF Police Commission Meeting
Over a year ago the Delmar Police Department recognized the need for extra duty on Rt 13. Speeding was a real problem. Accidents were frequent and of course, 13 is a major corridor for drug trafficking. It was agreed that the officers would do the patrol on overtime rather than take time away from their regular patrolling and calls for service. It was also agreed that the revenue generated from any tickets written would pay that overtime and what was left, along with revenue from Maryland’s RedSpeed program, would help fund a pay scale adjustment. The agreed upon program by both parties was to last three years.
A year later, when the new budget was being introduced, the Delaware Council had conveniently forgotten their commitment to the Police Department. It was then brought up at the Police Commission Meeting not long ago. There really was no chance for discussion because Delaware Mayor Houlihan got up and walked out of the meeting once it was brought up. He clearly didn't want to be on the record.
At the Joint Council meeting it was brought up again and Delaware denied it, even with documented proof of their commitment. At some point in the meeting, Delaware chose to not forward any of the money generated (over $30,000.00) by the program to the Police Department. They stated that the program had been successful and had run its course and discontinued it. What kind of sense does that make? Although the Daily Times Reporter was present during this meeting, they never reported Houlihan walking out. Your local Newspaper/Media is supposed to tell you all sides of the news. Instead, here on the Eastern Shore, it's very customized and bias. Unless your a Good Ol' Boy.
There's no doubt that crime has risen like there's no tomorrow in Delmar, both sides. Officers had been working their tails off for more than a year now and all of a sudden the Mayor cut the program.

Now, I hear that the Delaware Mayor and Council are telling everyone that the program was funded by a grant, and the grant had ended. That is simply not true!
Lives are being risked because the Delaware side of Delmar is refusing to pony up THEIR SHARE of Police protection and taking money from a program to make citizens safer and using it for other purposes.
Once the SPD and WCSO became more proactive towards drugs and crime, (I stated this several months ago) the crime/criminal activity spread out to Towns like Delmar and Fruitland, as expected.
Some of you have stated, where did all this crime come from and why haven't I heard about it. Well, the Daily Times could have easily informed you of what happened in that Police Commission Meeting, they refused. When I started Salisbury News I exposed Police Reports and even 8 years ago we heard the same thing, where did all the crime come from. Well, Police Reports don't sell Newspaper. Therefore they simply didn't publish them. The crime was always there, the public just wasn't aware of it, until SBYNews came along.
Now I'm telling you for a fact, crime is way up in Delmar. I'm warning you of this well ahead of time. Your Delaware Mayor knows for a fact it's way up and instead of being proactive, he's cutting programs and refusing to use those funds to hire more Police Officer and even making sure there's not enough money for overtime with the few Officers they already have.
Chief Saylor should be screaming at the top of his lungs for relief. He's been in the police business, (in Delmar) for some 30 years now and as a Leader he should NOT stand for it.
Then again, IF people/businesses like the Daily Times keeps it hush, who's gonna ever know, right? WRONG! Now more than 30,000 people a day are reading about it and you will probably see it all over your local news very soon, if they have any kind of conscience.
Demand Mayor Houlihan put that funding back into the Safe Streets Program and SUPPORT your local Police Department, who are understaffed, underfunded and burnt out!
