BERLIN -- Berlin leadership cast a wide net this spring seeking a new town administrator, and Mayor Gee Williams confirmed Thursday that one has been found and will migrate to Berlin all the way from Colma, Calif.
“As of yesterday, we have signed a contract with our new town administrator,” Williams said. “She will be visiting Berlin this weekend right through Monday to become familiar with the community and to spend time with the current town administrator [Tony Carson].”
Carson’s replacement will be Laura Allen, currently the city administrator for Colma, Calif., a suburb of San Francisco with a population of about 1,800 residents. For reference, Berlin has about 4,000 residents.

Another outsider coming to run a town like the Town of Berlin. Haven't they learned their lesson yet? Look at Ocean City! Look at Salisbury!
ReplyDeleteThese outsiders drive clear across the country for these jobs because they can't get one locally. Look what just happened recently in Ocean City from their Town Manager they hired from Florida. This guy proved to be trouble.
This here proves that your elected officials in Berlin are idiots.
maybe they can't find anyone local to do it...or if they did, would you accuse them of being part of the good old boy network?
ReplyDeleteThere's plenty of people locally who are qualified for the position. We need to bring back the good old boy network because with them the problems we faced were minuscule compared to what's going on today. They knew how to nip things in the bud ahead of them overpowering. Now it's either the comehere's or the comehere worshippers who for whatever reason think it's cool to get outsiders to run the show.
ReplyDeletehas tonys wife found out about his affair yet? or maybe he is going to work where gay marriage is legal! good luck ! im sure your next job would like a person with little man syndrome. now if we could only get rid of the drunkin mayor, the town may turn around!
ReplyDeleteSometimes fresh perspective can be a good thing. Lets give her a chance before we start naysaying.
ReplyDeleteThis good ol by stuff is a load. Thats just a lame ass excuse for hireing someone that meets a certian profile someone who doesnt know a thing about the community and we get scewed by turning us into California
ReplyDeleteYour statement is very insulting to the many qualified local people who could have been hired 9:37. To say that only an outsider can have a fresh perspective is nonsensical and is the excuse used when there is no other logical defense.
ReplyDeleteyep 9:37....soooo many towns in CA are prospering.....give her a chance to bury Berlin and then find out.
ReplyDeleteShe looks like Mike Dunn's sister.
ReplyDeleteAdministrator coming from a state deep in debt, now going to run Berlin. Lets get out your wallets and purses, time to start spending big time.
ReplyDeleteAs a "Come Here" I am so childishly referred to as by these ignorant and uneducated local yocals, I think it's a great idea to bring in some new blood that is experienced and educated instead of these "Good Ol' Boys" whose priority is to selfishly do each other favors instead of working selflessly for the community.
ReplyDeleteKudos to Mayor Williams! This Bedrock of a town in Berlin run by Dinosaurs soon to be extinct needs more of us "Come Heres" to change, modernize, and wake up this sleepy town. Get used to it y'all Local Yocals because we are here to stay! Let's all work together instead of y'all working whenever you feel like it and let's improve the old-fashioned conditions of this area! The more "Come Heres" coming here, the better!!!
This is totally awesome to hear. I moved here from Ellicott City and a couple more families I know of in Ellicott City are moving here this summer and we have been talking about obtaining county or city government positions while creating more jobs, which would in turn entice many more respectable people from the Western Shore to move here and increase the poulation of our area with many more people with transplants who have great ideas to create more jobs.
ReplyDeleteThere is room for both locals and "come-heres" in local government. New ideas are sometimes good but it's wiser, I think, to hire or promote qualified locals who are familiar with local people and places. Let's give Ms. Allen a chance to prove herself and see what she has to offer.
ReplyDeleteshe'll last a year. once she finds out about the good ole boy network of rich old men who really run the town, she'll leave.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she will be fine though I would much rather have seen someone chosen who has already invested in the community. Someone who has lived here for awhile, possibly a property owner and has maybe raised a family or is raising their family here. To me that means more commitment to the community as opposed to someone who would have never moved here if not for a job.
ReplyDeleteAny of you "Come Heres" want to buy a nice horse farm? 'Cause as soon as I sell, I'm out of Maryland altogether. And, you "Come Heres" can run it any GD way you care to.
ReplyDelete"These outsiders drive clear across the country for these jobs because they can't get one locally." Ding ding ding!!! Good luck with this Berlin. Your "gain" is no loss in CA.
