FRANCESCA KNIGHT OF OCEAN CITY SPEAKS OUT

I Was Cyberbullied By Adults

I wanted to share a valuable lesson I learned recently. First, let me explain who I am. I am the daughter of a city council woman in my hometown, of Ocean City, MD. I’ve had my fare share of fake smiles, loose-gripped handshakes, and condescending tones. Small towns can, at times, be brutal. Well, this isn’t an article about how wonderful my Mom is, nor is this article about someone being mean to her, or how cut throat politics can be. This is an article about bullying.

Publishers Notes: Because this Post is so long we have a GO HERE link to see the rest of the story.

Jake Day Bought And Paid For

In today's City Council Work Session the new Council majority elected to move forward the "Free EDU Zone" for Downtown Salisbury. They will take the 300 EDU's from the old Linens of the Week property and transfer them to the Downtown Parking Lots for their developer friends.

When you have a National Association of Realtors backing your campaign, this is how you pay them back. I should add, they even decided to GIFT the Rivers Edge project with free EDU's, even though the developer was willing to pay for them in their original proposal.

Now, that being said, I told ALL of you during my campaign, (even though Ireton LIED) that they would be building subsidized housing units on those Downtown Parking Lots and now you have proof. FREE EDU's IS A SUBSIDY.

Taxpayers should be outraged. Is this what non professionals do. They GIVE things away because they can't sell Salisbury to anyone?  No one wants to come here and do you know why, because you have a part time Mayor who is absolutely clueless about business and what it takes to succeed. So what you get in return are a special interest group of people who will take advantage of the taxpayers by purchasing parking lots for five cents on the dollar and develop cheap housing for a lot of money.

I tried to warn everyone this was coming. Put all "Yes Men" in upper management and away you go. I hate to see what Downtown Salisbury properties will be worth in 10 years.

FEMA Denies Aid To Housing Co-ops After Sandy

According to New York's Office of Housing Recovery Operations, some 120 co-op buildings, with 13,000 apartments, and 368 condominiums, with 7,000 units, sustained flooding and damage after Hurricane Sandy blew through town.

Many now need extensive repairs, but people who live in housing co-ops are considered small businesses under federal law and as such they're ineligible for federal hurricane relief. Instead of relief, they're being advised to apply for a "small business" loan even though they are essentially nonprofit entities set up by property owners.

That's what many New Yorkers have been discovering to their surprise, as they've been turned down for FEMA aid. Even though the FEMA assistance is finally coming through, people who live in co-ops just can't get it. And that hits low income co-op households especially hard, according to the executive director of an organization that helps low income New Yorkers turn distressed city properties into co-operatively owned and operated homes.

"Co-op owners aren't considered home-owners," explains Andy Reicher of Urban Homesteading Assistance Board (UHAB).

Despite Sequester, High-Level Federal Executives Slated To Get Bonuses

Washington - An elite group of federal employees is set to receive cash bonuses despite this year’s automatic budget cuts, according to a report that a Senate subcommittee issued Friday.

The report revealed that members of the government’s highly paid Senior Executive Service - who make up less than 1 percent of the federal workforce - had received more than $340 million in bonuses from 2008 through 2011. The bonuses came on top of annual salaries that ranged from $119,000 to $179,000.

What Did Obama Know About The IRS (And When)?

Amid the sound and fury of yesterday's IRS hearing were a few small tidbits which raise significant questions about who knew what and when within the Obama administration. While getting the answer (the real honest truth) is highly unlikely, as the Wall Street Journal notes, the IRS's watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 (when Republican lawmakers were complaining publicly about alleged IRS targeting of tea-party groups) he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president's re-election campaign. The revelation nonetheless raised a fresh set of questions about who was aware of the problem within the Obama administration. However, the hearing left numerous other fundamental questions unanswered, including who ordered the targeting and why it continued so long, pointing to a protracted investigation ahead as Rep. Paul Ryan exclaimed, "how can we not conclude that you misled this committee?" As Doug Ross' full timeline below suggests, this is fascism on the part of the IRS and White House...

Before the Bikini: Rare Vintage Beach Photos

As temperatures creep upward this spring season, thoughts of summer are on everyone's mind. As illustrated by the images above, a trip to the beach has been a standard summer family activity since the turn of the century and over time the fashions associated with seaside activities have evolved.

Beach vacations started as early as the late 1800s after railroads became a viable source of transportation, according to Victoriana Magazine. Swimwear consisted of fully covered gowns and bloomers that revealed very little. Although the sun’s harmful UV rays were an unknown danger at the time, this conservative beachwear would have provided a good deal of protection.

Large Tornado Hits Suburb Of Oklahoma City

A massive tornado estimated to be at least two miles wide plowed through Moore, Oklahoma, in the southern part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The tornado is still moving across other counties.

Two schools were hit. Search and rescue teams are at both sites. We understand some children have been pulled out alive, and teachers, but it’s not clear how many more are in the rubble. Many schools had kept children inside, not dismissing due to the dangerous weather.

Hundreds of homes and buildings were also hit, as well as family farms. Emergency crews are in many areas working to get to survivors as quickly as possible. Some structures are on fire, and there are several large masses of metal and debris to sort through.

Immigration Reform Bill Update

Two unions representing federal immigration officers are joining forces to oppose the immigration reform bill making its way through the Senate. The New York Times reports, deportation officers are represented by the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council. Its leader, Chris Crane, has been a critic of the bill. The National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council, headed by Kenneth Palinkas, has also joined the battle. He says his members have been pressured to rubber stamp citizenship applications. If the bill becomes law, members of the two unions would have to carry it out.

President Obama Would Have Done More For Jobs By Staying In DC & Approving The Keystone

If you are covering the President’s visit to Baltimore, I’d like to make sure you’re aware that the head of Ellicott Dredging, where President Obama just wrapped up his remarks, testified yesterday in front of the House Small Business Committee that he wants the Keystone XL Pipeline approved.

The irony is that President Obama has been dodging and delaying Keystone’s approval, instead of putting the full weight of his office behind this jobs project – to appease his Democratic base. After attempting to control the IRS/AP/Benghazi fiasco, the White House claims today’s trip gets him back to talking about jobs.

But my question is – if President Obama really wanted to create jobs, instead of just talking about them, why didn’t he stay in Washington and approve the Keystone Pipeline without trekking to Baltimore for another campaign-style photo-op?

Congressman Andy Harris had the following to say about the trip:

“President Obama could have stayed in Washington and listened to the testimony of the CEO of Ellicott Dredges who said that we need to build the Keystone Pipeline in order to create jobs.

“The President has been dragging his feet for years on this vital energy project that would create thousands of jobs, including jobs right in Baltimore at Ellicott Dredges.

“Unfortunately, this visit is just another one of President Obama’s campaign-style photo ops. Instead of doing concrete work to create jobs, he’s busy giving speeches and taking pictures.”

Uh Oh... Not Good

The government failed to put a small, but significant number of known terrorists on watch lists. The Justice Department's inspector general says the department failed to share information about terrorism suspects in the witness security program with the FBI's Terrorist Screening Center. It keeps the no-fly list. As a result, some of the people traveled on commercial flights. The Justice Department says it has fixed the problem with a more restrictive travel policy. It says in the past six years, the government has given just two former or suspected terrorists new identities and relocation help. Some in Congress say the audit shows information sharing is still a problem, even more than a decade after Sept.11, 2001.

White House: President Obama, Michelle Obama to travel to Senegal, South Africa, and Tanzania from June 26-July 3

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will visit Senegal, South Africa, and Tanzania June 26-July 3, the White House announced Monday. The Obama spent one emotionally charged day in Ghana in July 2009-- his only other visit to sub-Saharan Africa since taking office.

"The president will reinforce the importance that the United States places on our deep and growing ties with countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including through expanding economic growth, investment, and trade; strengthening democratic institutions; and investing in the next generation of African leaders," spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement.

Tax Court Still Lags Behind In Property Tax Appeals, Audit Finds

Real estate property owners unhappy with their assessments are still often waiting too long on their appeals to the Maryland Tax Court, auditors found, a problem that has persisted since an audit three years ago. But taxpayers can look forward to shorter waiting times to hear their appeals, despite a 25% reduction in staff and a 25% increase in the court’s work load, the court’s chief judge promised.

By law, the five-member Maryland Tax Court must respond to residential property tax assessment appeals within 90 days of their filing.

An audit released Friday said that out of 720 appeals “filed and heard” between July 2010 and February 2013, about 41% “were heard and determined” within 120 to 461 days after their filing dates. That means that the decisions were rendered one month to one year after the 90-day period required by law.

Immigration: Apparent Effort To Fashion North American Union Continues

House lawmakers reach tentative deal to revamp immigration ... Prospects for passage of a major immigration bill improved on Thursday when a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the House of Representatives declared they had reached a tentative deal, resolving disputes that had threatened to torpedo negotiations. The breakthrough came at the end of a two-hour private meeting of seven Republican and Democratic negotiators. The eighth negotiator in this so-called House Gang of Eight was unavailable after undergoing surgery on Wednesday. – Reuters

Dominant Social Theme: Welcome this rationalization of a difficult problem. Congress shall decide.

Free-Market Analysis: In the US legislative system, elected officials decide who comes and goes throughout the country. It didn't used to be this way, though. The passport and visa system is only a post-War one. It seems strange but travel was a lot freer a century ago.

If you wanted to go somewhere, you went. Borders were mostly undefended. Official papers were restricted, usually to government officials and others working in a quasi-official capacity. The idea of immigration as an "issue" preoccupying a democratic state was not one that had a great deal of currency in the past. But today it is a big deal.

Maryland's Fourth Casino Opens This Week

The flashy jangle of slot machines is a far cry from the stillness of Rocky Gap State Park in western Maryland, but state and local leaders are betting that this week's planned casino opening will transform a struggling lakeside lodge into the economic engine its planners envisioned 15 years ago.

Lakes Entertainment Inc. of Minnetonka, Minn., aims to open the gambling parlor Wednesday through its Evitts Resort LLC subsidiary. It will offer 558 slot machines and 10 table games in converted conference space at the newly rechristened Rocky Gap Casino Resort, 130 miles west of Baltimore.

The casino opening is contingent on a successful demonstration of gambling operations Monday for the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency.

Tune In, Turn On, Opt Out

What happens to everyone in the ruling Elites and those desperately trying to join the ruling Elites when the debt-serfs stop paying and the tax donkeys drift away to lower-cost, lower-income lifestyles?

Turn on, tune in, drop out was a famous slogan of the 1960s counterculture popularized by Timothy Leary, who stated that slogan was "given to him" by Marshall McLuhan during a lunch in New York City in 1966.

Tune in referred to gaining an awareness of the countercultural spectrum of ideas and values, turn on referred to mind-expansion via psychedelics and drop out meant to drop out of conventional society; Leary later explained that "drop out meant self-reliance, a discovery of one's singularity, a commitment to mobility, choice, and change."

In 1967, Leary modified the slogan thusly: Drop out. Turn on. Drop in.

Here at oftwominds.com, the slogan has been updated to Tune In, Turn On, Opt Out: tune in means to become aware the status quo is unsustainable and deranging; turn on means to become engaged in self-reliance and taking control of one's life and livelihood, and opting out means opting out of supporting our financialized cartel-state Neofeudal Debtocracy by being a compliant debt-serf and tax donkey.

People all over the world are tuning in to alternative narratives, turning on to self-reliance and low-cost/low-impact living and opting out of the status quo culture of consumerism, debt and complicity with a parasitic, exploitive financial-state Aristocracy/Plutocracy/Oligarchy/Kleptocracy (take your pick--it's still the same rapacious Elite whatever name you choose).

The most direct path to an alternative way of living is to opt out of debt and the associated consumerist fantasies of store-bought selfhood: multiple university degrees, brand name clothing, luxury autos, etc. This renunciation of consumerist consumption and debt is called Degrowth (May 9, 2013).

All Your Online Transactions Are Being Watched By The IRS

The IRS may be watching your online activities — including what you post on social media sites, what you sell online, even what you write in emails and text messages.

Some tax experts and civil liberties groups are disturbed by what they call the agency's secretive practices. Taxpayers know little about how it uses big data and "robo-audits."

"It's well-known in the tax community, but not many people outside of it are aware of this big expansion of data and computer use," Edward Zelinsky, a tax expert at Cardozo Law School and Yale Law School, told U.S. News & World Report.

What TARP Boss Neil Barofsky Told Me Yesterday Should Shock You

The financial news is getting boring. The Dow goes only one way – up. But gold fell below $1,400 per ounce yesterday.

Rather than trying to figure it out, yesterday evening we drove down to Zombietown. A friend in Washington had promised to introduce us to Neil Barofsky, inspector general of the TARP program.

You remember TARP? It was the feds' $700 billion program to rescue the US economy from a correction. Neil Barofsky was in charge of it. So we decided to go down and ask him how it turned out...

Meanwhile, in yesterday's International Herald Tribune was a small note: "Economists agree that spending cuts and tax increases have slowed the US recovery."

Readers will recognize this as the usual claptrap.

Government spending does not bring a genuine "recovery."

Obama Stresses Personal Responsibility To Morehouse Graduates

President Barack Obama on Sunday stressed the importance of personal responsibility and “what it means to be a man” in his commencement address at historically-black Morehouse College in Atlanta.

In the midst of a driving rain, Obama told graduates at the all-male private college that they have obligations to “those still left behind” to be role models for the entire African-American community, both personally and professionally.

“My whole life, I’ve tried to be for Michelle and my girls what my father wasn’t for my mother and me,” Obama said, referring to his own dad who left his family when the president was just a baby. “I want to break that cycle where a father’s not at home, where a father’s not helping to raise that son and daughter. I want to be a better father, a better husband, a better man.”

What Should Americans Die For?

"The American people are weary. They don't want boots on the ground. I don't want boots on the ground. The worst thing the United States could do right now is put boots on the ground in Syria."

That was the leading Senate hawk favoring U.S. intervention in Syria's civil war. But by ruling out U.S. ground troops, John McCain was sending, perhaps unintentionally, another message: There is no vital U.S. interest in Syria's civil war worth shedding the blood of American soldiers and Marines.

Thus does America's premier hawk support the case made by think-tank scholars Owen Harries and Tom Switzer in their American Interest essay, "Leading from Behind: Third Time a Charm?"

There is in the U.S.A. today, they write, "a reluctance to commit American blood."

A legacy of Iraq and Afghanistan "is an unwillingness of the American public to take casualties on behalf of less than truly vital challenges. ... While such concerns may be admirable ... they are incompatible with a superpower posture and pretensions to global leadership."

Senate Democrat Claire McCaskill: Fire Everyone Involved In Obama’s IRS Scandal

Let’s be honest: There not a single Democrat in Congress who cares if the Obama Administration uses the IRS to target its political enemies. We’re the bad guys to them and they’re willing to do anything they can get away to stick it to us.
That’s why NOBODY at the IRS had been punished for this scandal before it went public and blew up like a nuclear bomb.

However, the situation has now changed because the scandal is getting traction with the public. That means this could hurt the Democrat Party.

So, that leaves them with two options: They can either play this off as a “distraction” that’s being overblown or alternately, they can call for strong action against the bad actors at the IRS to try to give the public the false impression that they care.

QUOTES OF THE DAY 5-20-13

“It’s a mistake to think that poor people get the benefit from the welfare system. It’s a total fraud. Most welfare go to the rich of this country: the military-industrial complex, the bankers, the foreign dictators, it’s totally out of control. [...] This idea that the government has services or goods that they can pass on is a complete farce. Governments have nothing. They can’t create anything, they never have. All they can do is steal from one group and give it to another at the destruction of the principles of freedom, and we ought to challenge that concept.”

“Strictly speaking, it probably is not “necessary” for the federal government to tax anyone directly; it could simply print the money it needs. However, that would be too bold a stroke, for it would then be obvious to all what kind of counterfeiting operation the government is running. The present system combining taxation and inflation is akin to watering the milk; too much water and the people catch on.”

“Under the constitution, there was never meant to be a federal police force. Even an FBI limited only to investigations was not accepted until this century. Yet today, fueled by the federal government’s misdirected war on drugs, radical environmentalism, and the aggressive behavior of the nanny state, we have witnessed the massive buildup of a virtual army of armed regulators prowling the States where they have no legal authority. The sacrifice of individual responsibility and the concept of local government by the majority of American citizens has permitted the army of bureaucrats to thrive.”

“Times of tragedy and war naturally bring out strong emotions… Sometimes people are only too anxious to sacrifice their constitutional liberties during a crisis, hoping to gain some measure of security. Yet nothing would please terrorists more than if we willingly gave up our cherished liberties because of their actions.”

YOU WANTED BIG GOVERNMENT – YOU GOT IT

If Obama’s Rose Parade of scandals gives you a headache, here’s why: This is your brain on Big Government. The deteriorating developments on Benghazi, the IRS, the Justice Department’s Associated Press probe, health secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s Obamacare shakedown, and the “Affordable” Care Act’s unaffordability all offer a vivid, daily tutorial on the costs and pitfalls of unlimited government. The dangers of America’s bloated, bullying state are inescapable.

Big Government often hammers its foes.
As horrified Americans have learned, the IRS targeted at least 471 conservative organizations for tough treatment. As the IRS’s inspector general explained, these included self-identified “Tea Party” and “patriot” groups and those “focused on government spending, government debt, taxes, and education on ways to ‘make America a better place to live.’” The IRS reportedly approved zero tea-party tax-exemption applications between February 2010 and May 2012. Across 27 months of malign neglect, some applicants abandoned their ambitions.

Meanwhile, the IRS inappropriately asked these groups for donors’ lists, their public-policy opinions, and the names of board members’ relatives who might seek public office.

A chilling Politico story explains that a “special unit” at the IRS has scrutinized Jewish institutions. It askedone: “Describe your organization’s religious belief system towards the land of Israel.” A pro-Israel group called Z Street complains that the IRS inquired whether its activities “contradict the Administration’s public policies.”

Burglars Lock Homeowner In Closet….THE GUN CLOSET

The first mistake the burglars made was picking a lousy profession. Their second mistake was choosing to rob people in Texas of all places. Their third mistake was locking a homeowner in the WRONG CLOSET.
The victim of an armed home invasion in Houston has turned the tables on the brazen intruders after they stuffed him into a closet that turned out to be the place where he stores his gun.

Police say it all started at around 2pm Tuesday when three men broke into a home in the 8200 block of Braeburn Valley Drive and assaulted the resident.

After a brief scuffle, the hapless perpetrators shoved the man into a closet, not knowing that there was a gun in there.

…When the homeowner thought the burglars had left, he went downstairs, carrying his gun in case the suspects were still around, the Houston Chronicle reported.

On the first floor, the man confronted one of his assailant and the two exchanged gunfire, according to police.

The resident, who shares the house with his parents, escaped unharmed, but the armed suspect was much the worse for wear after being struck in the shoulder and leg.

He fled on foot down the street, but did not get far before he collapsed. His two suspected accomplices took off from the scene in a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Today we published your story about World War II Veteran Mr. Mowbray and all you did for him. Let's not forget all he did for us as well.

I was more than touched. You have "Paid It Forward" in a way most people will never understand. You should be very proud of your Parents as well as your Teacher. This is the kind of education more American's need to learn.

You have now been recognized around the World and you know what, I see an incredible future for you. More importantly you have touched millions of people, many of whom will reach out and help others as well.

You get an A+!!!!!!!!

California BANS All New Semi-Automatic Handguns

If you’re a liberal who wants to ban guns without officially putting a ban in place, how do you do it?
Simple.

You don’t make guns illegal, you just put restrictions in place that make it impossible for anyone to purchase a handgun. That’s exactly what they’ve now done in California.
Any new model handgun must have a microstamped serial number somewhere on the gun’s frame and a firing pin that stamps a unique number onto the cartridge before (or as) it ignites the primer. I immediately reached out to Brandon Combs of the Firearms Policy Coalition to confirm. Confirmed. Brandon has assured me that the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale is being challenged in court as a whole. Meanwhile for those Golden State gun buyers this means…

Californians who surmount the paperwork and scrutiny required to purchase a handgun can still buy any of the handguns on the current Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale. But that’s about it. As of today, all new models which manufacturers want to introduce for sale in California will need to follow the new guidelines. They’ve got to be capable of microstamping.

There’s not a single handgun manufactured in the United States that microstamps a cartridge. Not one. Why should there be? The technology is both expensive and useless (the firing pin can be replaced or sanded down in seconds) and consumers may well balk at the idea. So gun makers looking to introduce new models into California are going to have to design and build handguns that microstamp or…nothing.

Chance are they’ll walk away. Even without this microstamping misegos, gunmakers are dropping California compliant models. The state’s registry of acceptable gats has declined by half since its introduction, from 2400 models to 1279 today. SIG SAUER “lost” 17 models in the month of March alone.

There may come a time when California gun shops may have only a dozen or so new handgun models for sale. Or, perhaps, none.

2013 CLICK IT OR TICKET “Border To Border”

Glen Burnie, Maryland- As motorists take to the roads this Memorial Day holiday weekend, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is urging everyone to buckle up. Beginning Monday, May 20th, law enforcement officials will be out in full force, taking part in the 2013 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization and cracking down on motorists who are not belted.

“Seat belts save thousands of lives every year, but far too many motorists are still not buckling up, especially at night when the risk of getting in a crash is even greater,” said Chief Michael Kundrat, Maryland Transportation Authority Police. “We want everyone to have a safe summer, but it requires an important step on the part of motorists – clicking that seat belt.”

On the morning of May 20th, Maryland will be joining law enforcement agencies throughout the northeast in mobilizing the Click It or Ticket“Border to Border” Operation.

Law enforcement agencies that share State borders will team up to provide increased seat belt enforcement at border sites, sending a ‘zero tolerance’ message to the public: Driving or riding unbuckled will result in a ticket, no matter what State.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 52 percent of the 21,253passenger vehicle occupants killed in 2011 were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. As noted, deaths involving seat belt nonuse are more prevalent at night than during the daytime. According to the NHTSA, 62 percent of the 10,135 passenger vehicle occupants killed in 2011 during the overnight hours of 6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m. were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Tragically, these national statistics are mirrored locally. Preliminary data for 2012 shows that, 108 unbuckled drivers and passengers in Maryland lost their lives.

“Maryland’s seatbelt law is about to get tougher. Come October first, everyone must wear a seatbelt. Everyone. Those in the back seat as well as those in the front,” said John Kuo Administrator of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration and the Governor’s Highway Safety Representative for in Maryland. “Governor O’Malley just signed into law a bill that will require all occupants of a vehicle to be buckled.”

In 2011, seat belts saved an estimated 11,949 lives nationwide according to the NHTSA. While this year’s Click It or Ticket enforcement mobilization runs from May 20 through June 2, officers are out enforcing seat belt laws year-round.

Participating Law Enforcement Agencies: Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, Annapolis City Police, Baltimore County Police, Bel Air Police, City of Greenbelt Police, Crisfield Police, Cumberland Police, Frostburg Police, Gaithersburg Police, Garrett County Sheriff’s Office, Harford County Police, Havre De Grace Police, Landover Hills Police, The Maryland State Police, The Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Oakland Police Department, Ocean City Police, Ocean Pines Police, Prince George’s County Police, Princess Anne Police, Pocomoke City Police, Westminster Police, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.

North Salisbury Third-Grader Helps Veteran Finally Get Service Medals After 67 Years

A North Salisbury Elementary student in the TAD (Thinking and Doing) class at North Salisbury Elementary School made something very nice happen on Wednesday, May 15 for a World War II veteran when he was finally presented with the service medals he had waited 67 years to receive.

When a group of third-grade students interviewed Charles Mowbray, a World War II Navy veteran, for a historical documentary, they wondered why he didn't have any medals to show from his time in the service. Upon learning that he had never received his medals, and that the medal request could take three years to process, third-grader Leanna Morris wrote to U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski's office to try to get the medals for the 87-year-old veteran sooner.

Leanna's letter yielded results in just a few days. Both Mr. Mowbray and Leanna were surprised and delighted Wednesday when Linda Prochaska of Sen. Mikluski?s Office came to North Salisbury to present the veteran with his medals and a U.S. flag that had flown over the Capitol. Mr. Mowbray's family and church family, North Salisbury students, the Wicomico JROTC and many community members gathered for the joyous occasion.

Steve Hartman of the CBS Evening News came to cover the story, and his feature is scheduled to air at the end of the nightly news at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 17. After airing, the story will be posted online at http://www.cbsnews.com/evening-news/on-the-road/.

Alleged Jail-Gang Leader To Be Transferred

Tavon White, the alleged leader of a jailhouse gang at the Baltimore City Detention Center, will reportedly await trial in federal custody outside Maryland after his lawyer complained about conditions in the Cumberland prison in which he was being held.

White is accused of leading a smuggling operation at the city jail, and was charged last month in an indictment along with 13 female corrections officers. He is also said to have impregnated 4 of those officers.

There's more bad news about the Baltimore corrections system: The Baltimore Sun reports on a federal study showing the Baltimore lockup has the nation's second-highest rate of sexual contact between jail staff and inmates, trailing only the Marion County Jail Intake Facility, in Indiana.
